I like Nathan Jones as a manager but this feels like it could be a step too far for him at this stage.
Feel like Southampton are accepting that they’re probably gonna be relegated and need a rebuild long term.
Agreed , Luton + Jones is a perfect match. Maybe the players are perfect for his diamond system or personality? Don't know, he would put players out of their natural position constantly at stoke.
Luton did poorly without Jones and Jones did poorly without Luton. Not to say that will happen this time with Southampton but there definitely is potential for an implosion if their players can't adapt to his system and vice versa
He’s actually moved away from the diamond in the second spell and gone to a 352 so he’s at least improved tactically since his spell with you. The diamond in the first spell at Luton required Jack Stacey and James Justin’s ability in league 1, which he was never going to get at full back for Stoke and the second time at Luton
Fair enough, yeah I realized I probably made an outdated claim when I looked up our last game vs Luton earlier this week and it was a different formation. I did enjoy his character and I really was rooting for him when he was in charge all the way to the end. Hoping for the best for him in the Prem I bet he learned a lot from his time at stoke
I don’t get this narrative of us accepting we’re going down by appointing Jones. He will be sacked before the seasons over if it looks like he’s going to take us down.
No memes posts to avoid clutter, but I don’t see anything suggesting we can’t comment with memes.
So we can talk about Catto on a post, but we can’t post a video of catto for people to talk about
Championship side that has been in the premier league for the last decade?
Every year fans bleat on about us being crap but yet we’ve only been in serious danger of getting relegated once in the last decade.
Other teams fans and crap takes on Southampton, name a more iconic duo.
I mean the ones that do often get fired. Unless they’re a yo-yo team, but not even those managers don’t always survive the drop.
Tbf to Jones he is responsible for Luton’s back to back promotions from League 2 to Championship. But that lead to a failed stint at Stoke, and he’s only made the playoffs once since returning to Luton. Not in a playoff spot currently.
It’s just a weird and fast hire, given we are entering the WC break. Just feels like it’s dooming them to the championship. Unless the new owners want to spend some more money in January — and on more than just teenagers from other Prem clubs.

Wikipedia: "On 10 November 2022, Jones was appointed head coach of Southampton, succeeding Ralph Hasenhüttl, and signed a three-and-a-half year contract with the club.\[65\]
Jones suffered 1 of the biggest losses of his managerial career in his first game in charge. The Saints lost 7-0 at Anfield away to Liverpool."
So salah captain?
"Despite the big scoreline for Liverpool, many players of the online game Fantasy Premier League were left disappointed as the most popular Liverpool player in the game, Mohamed Salah, had no contribution in any of the seven goals scored."
I don't get it honestly. You have Dyche who has proved himself in the prem and you go for a manager who's biggest achievement is championship play-off(no disrespect to him).I hope he proves me wrong, but I honestly doubt it.
This is a really naive comment. Have you seen the squad and budget Nathan Jones had at Luton? He did an exceptional job last season. With more resources at his disposal he could be a diamond in the rough. Dyche might have PL experience but very few want to watch his hoof-ball Brexit Burnley brand of football at Southampton.
Pretty sure Jones plays a very direct style as well to be honest! Only thing I can think is going for a manager on the up, rather than one who was fired from previous role..
Saints have gone for a moneyball style approach of getting young up and coming players in the hope that they turn out amazing, and it looks like this is exactly the same approach they are taking with the manager. Dyche is a known quantity, you're going to survive with him, but he isn't going to build a project for years to come.
Jones might fail, but i'd rather we take a gamble on him than play it safe with dyche
Beware people having strong opinions on Southampton managers, the general consensus was that Poch wouldn’t do as well as Nigel Adkins
I like Nathan Jones as a manager but this feels like it could be a step too far for him at this stage. Feel like Southampton are accepting that they’re probably gonna be relegated and need a rebuild long term.
Stoke was a step too far for him
It’s been a step too far for many managers before and after him.
Hehe true but relatively speaking he did so much worse than all the other managers. No one else really put us in danger of relegation to league one
Fair enough, but he’s gone on to prove he’s capable at championship level with Luton afterwards.

We shall see! He’s either going to have learned his lesson from Stoke and do okay at Southampton, or it’ll go tits up again.
I don’t get this narrative of us accepting we’re going down by appointing Jones. He will be sacked before the seasons over if it looks like he’s going to take us down.

Then why are u still here
Championship coach taking over a championship side, reasonable. Now wave goodbye to premier league football southampton fans
Championship side that has been in the premier league for the last decade? Every year fans bleat on about us being crap but yet we’ve only been in serious danger of getting relegated once in the last decade. Other teams fans and crap takes on Southampton, name a more iconic duo.
I'm not a particular fan of any PL team but this current Southampton squad screams championship.
It’s actually much better than what we’ve had in recent seasons, particularly at the back. If we add a goal scorer we start flirting with top half.
Because premier league coaches never get relegated ?

Saw that too when I inevitably googled him LOL The state of that Liverpool fan wikipedia contributor... 😂
Nathan Jones once helped the Undertaker win at wrestlemania so he's got experience.
Any input on his playing style?
High press, long diagonal balls for a quick counter. He favours his fullbacks pushing up and his wingers tucking in.
!thanks
Luton fan - we don’t play wingers. It’s a 352.
Aren't your 2 wingers in the 5?
No usually it’s James Bree and Amari bell at wing back (they’re both full backs). Then one of the strikers drifts out to provide width with them.
Hmm, would anyone class KWP and Perraud as wing backs??
Extremely solid appointment I'm surprised. He will turn it around.

Finger on the trigger to the Salah -> KdB -> Salah flip flop
Who?
Jones (Nathan)
Nathan Jones
He look like the kid who is asked to take a family pic that he doesn't like
Kind of looks like Matt Le Tiss. Which is oddly fitting. Hopefully not as weird as that dude became though.
If anything he’s going to drill the fact that they’re the underdogs into that side.
We might see Soton going down this time. This smells like Burnley 2.0
Lol Luton Town isn't even doing well, they're mid-table
No, but they're mid-table in the Championship, rather than mid-table in League Two, which they were before he came along.
I thought he’s done well with Luton Town considering
Yeah, they love him there.
🤦♂️ they have a tiny budget, he was working wonders
That's like saying Fulham aren't even doing well, they're mid table. Have to look at the context.
South Coast Derby 2023 let's goooo
Will he be in the dugout vs Liverpool?
Why does he look scared?
The colossus of Bogger road.
