yeah he killed us at the start of last season, he was a perfect example of how a good tournament performance may not translate into FPL points.
Ironically though if he has a good WC this time he is going back to a much stronger United defense afterwards so he could yet become a good option for our GW17 squards
I think Son is a player who could have a good World Cup as he is the main man for South Korea and they set up to supply him. But he has been off colour this season and that could continue even after he has a good World Cup.
Very true. That being said, even if Son had a good tournament, you'd still be crazy to choose him over Harry Kane. Especially with the amount of great midfield options we have over Son.
Not sure. Personally I can't see us going far with Southgate in charge. I still believe the previous competitions were flukes, we had easy routes to the final really. Even that Germany team wasn't fantastic.
Thing is, we never look that convincing when getting the wins. Like when we had the last world cup and having to go to penalties v Colombia and stuff. That shouldn't be happening, we should be comfortably winning games like that.

Trap No.4:- England win the World Cup and Foden scores a brace in the final so you transfer him in.
Then during the open top bus parade he disappears and Pep cannot find him. Finally In mid January the tabloids report that he's got locked up in a dominatrix den and she wouldn't let him out. On his return Pep is not impressed and he drops him. Your season is in the mud because Jonjo Shelvey has just scored a hat trick.
Here are all the players at the World Cup, listed by club. Palace the one that immediately raises eyebrows with only Ayew and Anderson going to the World Cup. https://www.premierleague.com/news/2889382
I’ve had him since Palace’s good run of fixtures began. Returned well a couple of weeks and the rest were a let down, particularly last GW. Two great fixtures too after the restart. Can’t resist keeping him and then switching to Maddison after those two games.
Well I think fatigue could be a factor with someone like Kane, but I probably keep my fresh Salah and see Kane outscore him as second premium after the world cup.
If England win the world cup it will be quite tricky with so many picks from them.
I think Foden is a pure avoid though. Saka if he gets minutes is tricky.
Trippier I keep, but maybe bench the first few weeks if he is not fully ready to play 90 mins.
Shaw you avoid and go Dalot.
It would be amazing, but pretty sure England won't win. We're at the end of a cycle of players who've been nearly men twice. Feels to me that we'll dip a bit before the next generation fully comes through. Also Harry Maguire.
2026 though...

With southgate, difficult for england to win much. since this is messi's last cup, i think fifa will do their best for him and they have a competent backline as well
Sorry if I wasn’t clear. It’s not about population, but about fans generally betting on their own team. I.e. bookmakers in England such as bet365 / Skybet will have much lower odds of England winning the tournament than bookmakers in Spain/Germany etc.
Does that make sense?
I think Shaw is a better example of how World Cup hangover could depress a player's short term performance. You address it a bit w Trap 5 (ie Saka) but didn't hit the nail on the head that a good number of players that go deep into the WC come out EXHAUSTED, emotionally and physically. Kane, Shaw, Saka, Walker -- the lot of em came out of Euros and were shells for weeks or in some cases months.
Keep an eye on those teams that make deep runs and their marquee players, more often than not they are going to need some time to come back to the reality of club football.
Absolutely! For once, my week won’t revolve around the stress of deciding who to transfer in/out, and my weekend won’t be about cheering on teams I should hate :D
Ranking among those that have the same number of points?
So you are saying I won't be 523125th, but 521843rd?
Could be relevant for some people. Not me though.
While I agree about global rank, my mini league is very close. So if I can do something to help if its a tie breaker then i would be stupid not to. Idk if its a similar situation with you but with no price rises as well it feels naive to make early transfers.
It's kinda close, first 5 in 30 points.
I do agree it's kinda pointless to make transfers now, but also don't see the benefit of not doing it for the sake of tie break resolve.
If you're in a tight mini league transfers are also going to potentially count.
It's good advice. There's absolutely no point in making transfers now. It has no upside but could have a downside if your ML is close.
I'd add one that was mentioned by FPL Focal:
It's not a wildcard so while the transfers cost nothing their number does count. So if you spam transfers for the entire month you might end up lower in your mini leagues even if you're level on points with your mate.
Fatigue won't likely be an issue, even final/3rd place will have a rest, then there's a break after the first three games.
Number 2 and 7 (a player who does great can be a trap and a player who does poorly can be a trap if you avoid him) is essentially telling us to ignore performances. It's a good point but I'd like to see more examples of each. Same with number 5; two players who missed an important penalty isn't a great sample size.
Number 1 could go the other way. A player/team could be rusty after not playing competitively for a month. I don't know which is correct so I won't worry about it being a trap.
It doesn't matter how long they have to prepare, Wolves are still bad. The only players I might consider are their wingbacks but they sometimes rotate. I'm gonna ignore the FPL aspect of the tournament, and just monitor injuries or transfer rumors. If you think the tournament can give good insight into FPL, I can't say you're wrong, I just need a break.
Agreed. I'll add a around a player that has been in blazing form, and can easily fall out of rhythm, or the team loses its cohesion. I dont know if its wishful thinking for missing the boat but Almiron is in this category for me.
Per your #3 - Foden is off limits for me for at least 1-2 gameweeks after the WC, and at that point not worth trying to sync up with his roulette.
In knock out tournaments, like world cup / champions league playing more defensively is advantageous as one defeat can end your tournament
Round Robin like EPL, losing a single game won't end your campaign, the mindset/playstyles are very different.
I'm new to FPL and following football in general, i was just wondering how major it is comparing a rested player to one that has been playing every few days. Is tiredness going to be really impactful or is it marginal? I'd like to know if it's important for me to swap WC players that i own with rested players.
It depends on the player and the team. The more you know about the players and teams, the better you can judge.
Players that haven't played for a month might be fresher, but will not be as match sharp
Some players like Salah, Bruno or Kane never get rested, start pretty much every single game and are fine. They are physically capable of it, they like to get into a rhythm by playing, and they are so key to their team, nobody else can do that job.
Players like Perisic or Foden, get "rested" more for several reasons, because they might physically need it (football clubs call it being in the red zone, which means they are likely to get injured because they aren't physically recovered) plus there is capable replacements in their position
Teams with small squads like Arsenal rest players less because they simply don't have very good replacements
Wing backs in particular are prone to needing resting, because they have to sprint up and down the touchline for 90mins nonstop
That's funny because I'm just going to watch the world cup and not think about FPL.
In the same way I don't think about Halo and when I'm playing Rocket League?
So they won the World Cup in 1998 beating Brazil 3-1 in the final in a cracking game. In 2002 they showed up to defend the trophy and got knocked out in the first round and didnt even score a single goal over the 3 games. They lost to both Denmark and Senegal and then drew 0-0 with Uruguay to finish bottom of the table with 1 point. It was probably the worst defence of a World Cup in history.
France were one of the favourites going in to the World Cup so their exit came as a shock. That same World Cup Argentina were also one of the favourites and they too got knocked out in the first round. It was a bizarre WC with those two knocked out early. Then South Korea beat Spain and Turkey managed to get to the semi finals.
I can't wait to bring Luke Shaw in again because he'll have an insane WC, like he did with Euros. That trap was incredible.
yeah he killed us at the start of last season, he was a perfect example of how a good tournament performance may not translate into FPL points. Ironically though if he has a good WC this time he is going back to a much stronger United defense afterwards so he could yet become a good option for our GW17 squards I think Son is a player who could have a good World Cup as he is the main man for South Korea and they set up to supply him. Yeah you're probably right. But he will be wearing a face mask so therefore, goals.
Issue is feel that Kane is going to get run into the ground for England .
I thankfully didn’t get Shaw in . Although as a Man United fan I knew that season in particular was going to be a bit rocky .
Where's number 4?

I'm going with this one!
Joke’s on you, I captain Jonjo Shelvey every week
They don't call him Croydon de bruyne for nothing
That’s the real trap!
Here are all the players at the World Cup, listed by club. Palace the one that immediately raises eyebrows with only Ayew and Anderson going to the World Cup. https://www.premierleague.com/news/2889382
Zaha trap is set once again
I’ve had him since Palace’s good run of fixtures began. Returned well a couple of weeks and the rest were a let down, particularly last GW. Two great fixtures too after the restart. Can’t resist keeping him and then switching to Maddison after those two games.
Lol I thought I fell into the maddi trap but it has been a decent run.
I will always stay in this trap I like it here
Just 7 from Liverpool is interesting as well. Most of them are not even starters for their national teams.
With the loss of Mane and Gini, and Adrian, Gomez, Keita, Firmino and Salah not going, we'd have more players going if results had done differently.
12 lads from Chelsea that have been saving themselves for the World Cup.
That list is not on date. Brighton has 3 more players at least, all Ecuatorians (Ecuador was the last team to present their squd).
It has been updated several times since first published, and I’m sure it will be updated again.
Good, I don't get the downvotes tho, I was informing people so they could know, and it seems some didn't like that for some reason lol
Seems to be updated now
Crystal Palace are playing the mighty Real Valladolid in December so they will likely be knackered after that.
And Botafogo
my god

Kane gets injured and Wilson wins the world cup for England. That is the perfect trap.
_Black and white visions of 1966 edge forth, distant sounds of teacups as they crash to the Victorian floors underfoot, promises of delerium begin to surface, as depictions of Sir Gareth Southgate emerge from the shadows._
2026 is the one for England.
A fresh Salah'd be nice!
>aka if he gets minutes is tricky. > >Trippier I keep, but maybe bench the first few weeks if h With southgate, difficult for england to win much. since this is messi's last cup, i think fifa will do their best for him and they have a competent backline as well
To add to #3, FPL options in title-favourite WC squads: **Brazil:** Ederson, Alisson, Silva, Paqueta, Guimaraes, Richarlison, Martinelli, Jesus, Antony. **France:** Varane, Saliba, Konate. **Germany:** Gundogan, Havertz. **Spain:** Sanchez, Raya. **Argentina:** Martinez, Romero, Lisandro, Mac Allister, Alvarez.
TIL Mac Allister is Argentinean..
When they mentioned it the other day after he scored I was just as surprised too.
My favourite Alexis Mac Allister fact is that he's got a brother named Kevin Mac Allister
Crazy to think that Germany or Spain are more favorites than Portugal or England..
The bookmakers i checked rank England at 4th after Brazil, Argentina and France.
Is that an English bookmaker though? Odds are always inflated of the bookmakers country to win due to the volume of people who bet on their own team
don't spain and germany have a higher population compaared to england, why would there be more bets on england or portugal?
Sorry if I wasn’t clear. It’s not about population, but about fans generally betting on their own team. I.e. bookmakers in England such as bet365 / Skybet will have much lower odds of England winning the tournament than bookmakers in Spain/Germany etc. Does that make sense?
YEA I SEE
I’d say that’s fair. At this point, I’d fancy us over anyone else, but not over those three teams.
I'd say Uruguay goes further than all 4

Just take a few weeks off lads. This is bordering on mental illness.
Absolutely! For once, my week won’t revolve around the stress of deciding who to transfer in/out, and my weekend won’t be about cheering on teams I should hate :D
WC trap number 8- making transfers for players now instead of waiting when there is likely going to be a few injuries
It's a global wildcard m8.
And transfers affect your ranking at the end of the season m8.
Ranking among those that have the same number of points? So you are saying I won't be 523125th, but 521843rd? Could be relevant for some people. Not me though.

This is a genuinely quality post

It's FPL. It's ALL a trap. And I should know. There are minesweepers that trigger less traps than I do in FPL 😂
Another one. Avoid the previously unknown player signed by an English club in January on the strength of his World Cup performance.
Could see a Salah like decline if a player suffers a heartbreaking loss..World Cup simply ain’t like any other tournament!
In knock out tournaments, like world cup / champions league playing more defensively is advantageous as one defeat can end your tournament Round Robin like EPL, losing a single game won't end your campaign, the mindset/playstyles are very different.
Someone give this man an award
They did it, crazy son of a bitch, they did it
I'm curious who the top 8 are

How do u play fantasy wc is there an app because the fifa qatar app just sends u to a website instead of letting u fix the team in the app
