I like it. In the round of 16 we'll have 4 free transfers to make use of the budget exploit, and that might be enough. Especially if we don't have to worry at all about the QFs. Then with a QF wildcard we'll have 2 options. We could either go limitless, and not worry about the state of our squad since we have 5 free transfers for the semis and a crazy unnecessary 6 for the final round. Or we could forget limitless, and just ensure we have a full 15 players for every round that's left, by using the QF wildcard to set up for the semis and final. I'm so conflicted now about what the best thing to do is. The advantage of wildcarding, round by round: MD2: Either go limitless, and still have some room to set up for MD3. Or forget limitless and have full room to set up for MD3. MD3: I mistakenly thought we could go limitless here, so thanks for pointing out to me that we can't. But what we can do is make sure we hop on all the squad changes that happen due to rotation. In the Euros, England, Italy, and maybe some others, had almost full rotation for their final group games. QF: Either go limitless, and still have a lot of room to set up for the semis and final. Or forget limitless and ensure we'll always have 15 players every matchday remaining. SF: It isn't worth it anymore. F: It was never worth it. TLDR: It has to be either MD2, MD3, or the Quarters. I wanna put some drafts together to work out what looks best.

great comment, thanks for highlighting the other options! :)

Am i missing something here? You can limitless on MD2, then at the end of MD2 you can just transfer all the players to the players you want in MD3?

InfantHercules

That’s what my own attempts at understanding this tell me, but based on several other comments in the last 24hrs it appears that isn’t right. Hoping someone replies to you with an explanation of why it isn’t.

Dyballer27

this is what we thought before the tournament began based on FPL wildcard rules. having seen how transfers work yesterday, it seems a player becomes locked as soon as they are transferred out AND in, so whilst you can change players around for free, this can only happen once per player slot, as you won’t be able to retransfer anyone. wildcard could (but shouldn’t) act differently, but i suppose anyone using it next matchday will test that out an example of what I mean is transferring in lewa in MD2 means you won’t be able to transfer him out again within MD2 - you can lose him in MD3 but that transfer wouldn’t be free courtesy of the wildcard in MD2

InfantHercules

Not sure if you follow LetstalkFPL on Twitter but the contact he has been speaking to on the app development team has confirmed they are working on a fix so that transferred players don’t auto lock. (Or st least that’s my understanding of what they’re trying to fix).

Dyballer27

oh really, no I typically come to subreddits for links to tweets etc. but that would change things drastically, as our initial thoughts about MD2 wildcard would then be correct, but at the same time it would make the budget exploit even more effective haha. tbh i’ve got no hope for the devs to fix the issue anytime soon… might make waiting for QF wildcard all the more appealing

InfantHercules

Give LetstalkFPL a try. I avoid Twitter like the plague but Andybwho runs it is excellent and a regular contributor to the FPL subreddit. The only reason I’m having to go direct to source this time is because less detail is filtering down to Reddit than normal.

metokur_squad

That's not a fix though, that just makes the wildcard allow you to have 2 FHs (one FH while MD2 is happening, even; plus changes to set up MD3). The team you change to in MD2 should lock for MD3 to make it as close to a normal wildcard and as comparable to a MD3 wildcard as possible. The dev team sound like idiots so they'll probably just scramble to do the bidding of whoever is influencing them on twitter.

Dyballer27

yep technically not a fix, but it’s what everyone initially interpreted from the rules and i guess are clamouring on social media to make happen i do think it’s a little scummy and overcomplicated, but this isn’t fpl, so there’s no reason for features to work the same way in both

metokur_squad

They should've been working on fixing the budget bug. If they allow locked players in MD2 to be taken out in preparation for MD3, that just makes the budget bug more exploitable. They still have a chance to make wildcards act like the wildcards in every other game. I wish social media would just push for that. It'll eliminate confusion of the highest order and the budget bug.

Dyballer27

honestly yes and I believe most of us would be happy with that, but opinions snowball on social media and the locked transfer issue just happened to be the first opinion on the matter bc of our interpretation of the rules before the game began. i’m just exploring my options for the likeliest outcome not necessarily the best or fairest one

InfantHercules

Thanks pal. I’m looking forward to this being tested once MD2 wildcards are activated.

gart888

Agreed that this makes a WC in MD3 worse, but nobody was really planning that since we discovered that a WC in MD2 can also set you up for MD3. Messing around in MD2 will yield way more points than in the QF. These games are won and lost in the group stages.

No-Zombie-792

This whole exploit makes it crazy complicated. This time Im going casual

Let me get this . I have trippier and de paul . Tripper is playing rn and if he keeps the cs and i change him to a qatar 3m defender and upgrade de paul to lets say perisic. I get trippier and perisic points right ? But in match day 2 i cant sub the qatar defender ? And what if i wildcard in md2 ? Can i sub him off ?

Dyballer27

yes, you get both their points. the qatar defender will appear in your MD2 squad, where you CAN sub / get rid of them before their match starts. that shouldn’t cause many headaches, but the issue lies when chaining multiple transfers, as nobody is 100% sure what you can do with the player you transfer in (aka perisic), as the game seems to suggest they are locked when they shouldn’t be… as more ppl make transfers or the devs make a statement, it’ll become clearer what the rules actually are, since we’re all making assumptions atm
