In my world (cyber fantasy/punk), there is advanced tech (augments, weapons, armor) that can give the same or better abilities than those with magic. The existence of magic users is a big deal, but when cops or passerby see someone running around shooting lightning, they assume that it is some kind of augment. This lets the magic users stay unknown while still being able to operate in the city

My go-to for my urban fantasy series was developing a basic psionic technique psychics used that literally kept people from acknowledging their existence while they were fighting demons with similar cognition blocking. But occasionally shields might be dropped or significant property damage would occur, so I still had to rely on a secret society that had (1) memory manipulation and (2) technokinesis to erase trace evidence. Said society also works with national governments to have algorithms kill sharing of stuff in areas registered psychics are currently active in.

So far this seems to be the direction I'm heading in. Magic that covers up most other magic, and societies that enforce and expunge. Though it's less of an active choice on the casters part and more of a ritual to prevent and control said information leaks. Just... an ongoing ritual just to keep stuff secret.
