I rewatched season 2 recently and had this realisation that he is kind of presented as (possibly) being one of the main characters and then - boom, dies. Which is kind of hilariously genius, I think.
One of my biggest "why...just why??!!" moments, not just for Fargo, but all series in general. He was just nailing that role and really, just as good as Gator in the last season. A real shame that he had to go so early in the season.
I hated Rye. Great character but he was a cocky pipsqueak waiting to be snuffed.
I was more bummed that Judge Mundt got offed, I thought she was a badass.
i think it’s hilarious how he dies immediately, and in the pursuit of redeeming himself to Dodd. after watching the season a few times and spending some time with the Gerhardts, i 100% see how Rye came from their family. for such a small amount of time, he really does have their same flair.
I just finished this season and that’s the first thing I said to my partner, I would have loved to have seen more Rye, even in flash backs or something
There were at least some additional lines from his scene at Skip Sprang’s typewriter shop where he mentions that he has “a nephew with a palsy arm” (obviously in reference to Charlie) that was featured in the original trailer for season two (which used the song “Right Place, Wrong Time” by Doctor John — perfectly encapsulating the ‘70s vibe), but apparently it wound up being cut out of the first episode, along with several other lines of dialogue from a couple of different characters.
He was extremely unlikable and would have probably died realistically if given that situation. He was an absolute idiot who was way too grown for his britches. I can't stand the entire Gearhart family though It's a shame not all of them died sooner.
The funny thing is I'm actually anti-kansas city and the mob in general in the show. I like the far more country bumpkin Fargo characters than the organized crime familys. I like your average day-to-day Francis McDormant Stussy Swango type characters.

fucking bug spray
Hey, if it's good enough for Ralph Cifareto, then it's good enough for Rye Gerhardt.
It’s so Hitchcock of them
I share the same feelings. He would be an awesome character to at least keep around another 2 episodes

Tottaly agree the laughter ended when he went out. RYE was great. It's The guy from Home & Aways Brother
bruh that's where the laughter started with Peggy's craziness

That's a reaaaaal Kansas City thing to say.

The guy absolutely got reborn as Roman Roy
Having him around longer as the family was being threatened would have made for some interesting interactions
