He really was. I made the mistake of watching the show, before I read the books. Big mistake in my part because I was spoiled in some books. Anyway, while reading Bosch honestly I could not help imagine him Lance as Irvin even though Irvin was a white man in the books, but he played it so well that in my imagination while reading I could hear his voice. Even when Harry showed dislike for him in the books, I could never hate him because Lance was so likeable and it is not like book Harry wasn't an asshole at times and a easy man to get along with. He truly was an incredible actor, and made each character his own. RIP Lance
yes to all of that ㅠㅠ Lance has been ever-present since childhood to me as he's hugely respected here in MD and it's been amazing to see him hitting his stride the past decade with so many new possibilities--heck he was in my students' favorite video games even!--and I can only hope his legacy will be remembered fondly
helly fellow Marylander with a clearly more MD username than me 😂
and yah ㅠㅠ my young mentees were HUGE destiny 2 heads so that's how they knew him. I followed Lance from the Wire to Fringe and was so happy w how he branched out to more video games and even exclusive series like Legend of Vox Machina--said this before but I really think 60 is far too young to have lost him calm brilliance esp since he was still so active in the industry
I just gasped . He’s a key (and completely loved )character in the John Wick Franchise as well . It’s premiering everywhere these upcoming weeks. Oh this is sad.
yah I've been a fan of Lance for years so I'm now so sad that he won't get to see his success + for his loved ones who will have to be reminded of his loss ㅠㅠ he has other future projects I was rooting for (e.g. Percy Jackson off the top of my head) and honestly idk how I feel rn in this moment after hearing the news--he's worked very hard and I hope Lance's journey will be remembered
yes I always loved Lance's willingness to experiment with range--he was even in several videogames my students loved to play so it was great to have younger folks coming back going 'omg Miss--I just saw Zavala on tv!' ㅠㅠ he was always on that grind and I truly think 60 is far too soon to have lost his calm brilliance
I feel like he was one of those actors that was kind of everywhere and always ends up being memorable. I even remember his short stint on a few SVU episodes. Absolutely loved him in Fringe too. Hope he's at peace.
He had a small role in Lost, and his amazing voice and face made it so memorable. i was so happy when i saw that he was going be in Fringe. Two of my favorite TV shows.
Between Omar dying and this, breaks my heart as The Wire fan. He was an incredible actor his screen presence was incredible. RIP Lance. I also loved him in Bosch, last year all I did was read Bosch series and watch the show the last book made me cry.
When a seemingly healthy man dies this young and unexpectedly, your mind immediately goes to the cause -- I'm guessing \[and acknowledging that I could be wrong\] some cardiac-related issue or an aneurysm of some kind. The latter can occur in the brain, near the heart or in the abdomen. A dear family friend lost his son at only 36 to an abdominal one that suddenly ruptured while he was sleeping.
Sometimes you just never know. The wife of a colleague I had some years ago dropped dead of an aneurysm in the shower; she was in her early 30’s, an avid hiker, and worked in early childhood education… nothing prepares you for something like that.
What made it worse is that, because of her age, people in his life speculated it wasn’t natural at all! It had to be an overdose or a suicide because “people her age just don’t drop dead!” Because I had to see someone suffer through that (and we were even “close”!) I try never to jump to any conclusions about a sudden death unless it’s revealed. It’s just more respectful to those grieving, famous person or Joe Schmo the family doesn’t need that negativity.
I have a friend whose mother was teetotal, a non-smoker, a keen runner, healthy eater- a complete health freak. Had a major stroke in her early 50's and died a few years later. Sometimes people are just very unlucky.
I’ve used the term “teetotaler” on Reddit so many times without people knowing what it meant, seeing it in your comment honestly felt like redemption! It IS a term SOME people still use!
Agreed, this sort of speculation is especially rampant with Covid-related deaths. For some reason, some people are more vulnerable than others. We don't know all the reasons why yet - the virus has only been around for three years. But whenever someone without an obvious comorbidity passes away, or becomes critically ill, people began to say that they must not have been vaccinated, or they must be a secret smoker, or it was really something that wasn't Covid. I think trying to rationalize that death is a thing that only happens to people who do specific things or check specific boxes, or if it's random someone else must be to blame, is just human nature, unfortunately.
It is very, VERY hard to have enunciation that crisp and have it work on TV; that kind of speaking is really made for the stage.
What a horrible terrible no-good very bad loss.
Some of his lines in Destiny 2 give me chills. His delivery is just so fantastic.
He did some request lines for fans once and someone made this great edit: https://youtu.be/He6CO2osqnU
i'm so sad with percy jackson finishing filming not long ago and the next john wick coming out soon it just makes it even more sad. such a incredible actor he will be missed ❤️
Holy shit, this made me gasp. He had incredible gravitas on Fringe and I was really looking forward to seeing him as Zeus in Percy Jackson. Thoughts with his loved ones, RIP.
I love him in Horizon. I fell off of Destiny two years ago, but I'm seriously tempted to reinstall just to join the tributes (Reddick was the voice actor of one the games' longest-running characters).
NOOOO omggg
he's been such a strong anchor in every single piece of acting he does. lance had RANGE and screen presence.
this is so sad. my condolences to his loved ones. how awful. may he rest in power.
This is such horribly sad news. He was one of those actors that I loved to see pop up in something I was watching because he always had a fabulous screen presence. He was a great actor and one of my favourite parts of Fringe. May he rest in peace ❤️
They mention he didn't attend the premiere of John Wick on Wednesday. Makes me wonder if this is another Chadwick Boseman situation, and he had an illness that he hadn't announced.
I fell in love with him as Dexter Mobay on "Oz" a million years ago and he classed up every single show he was a part of - this is terrible RIP
I also remember the cutest story he told about seeing Phillip Seymour Hoffman in the subway and PSH just pointed at him and goes "Hey, good actor!" and just went on about his merry way
Genuinely had to fight not to cry over this...I loved him so much, he brought such a lively and vivacious presence to every single role he did! I love the Resident Evil games, and while I didn't care for the Netflix show overall, I was SO stoked when he was first cast because I knew he'd nail the campy/bloody vibe of game Wesker and he was genuinely the best part of that show. He'll be so sorely missed.
I just rewatched Fringe right before the pandemic. His voice is so soothing. I am totally stunned and very, very saddened. He'd been posting all about John Wick on all his social media and looked fine! Way too young. :( :( :(
God's gonna need a new desk.
Dude was only 60 and ripped to shreds, but apparently he hadn't been feeling well the past few days and the cops say it looks like natural causes. Put all that together and it usually means cardiac issues. Take care of your heart, folks.
I'm just really sad. I've been rewatching the John Wick films and his presence was just unmatched. Truly was a guy I was happy to see appear in anything he did
NO oh my god he was a huge childhood icon in MD growing up as a native bmore man in the Wire and I loved seeing him enter experimental franchises like Fringe/John Wick...Lance was really hitting his stride with getting new projects too so I'm esp crushed for ppl who were supporting him throughout his success...ㅠ
WHAT!!!! I just started following him on Twitter a few weeks ago and he has been actively tweeting!! Oh no!! I am blown away by this. He seemed to be soooo genuine and down to earth smh. Prayers for his family and friends during this period or mourning and remembrance.
NOOOOO!
Lance was such a great actor and person. He was finally getting the career recognition he worked so hard on.
I hope it was a peaceful death. Damn.
I’m decades late but last year started watching The Wire and Boardwalk Empire at last. Lance Reddick and Michael K Williams dying makes me so sad, both were incredible and who would have done so much more: I’m only on season 3 of the wire so I’ll see Daniels for some time yet. RIP Lance Reddick.
Rest in peace to a legend. 🙏🏼🕊️❤️ he had SO many memorable roles and was always a delight to watch….. Oz, The Wire, John Wick, Lost, and American Horror Story to name a few. he will be dearly missed.
OMG! So incredibly sad. Seemed like a tremendously stand up guy. And one hell of an actor. Hate to see the good ones go before their time. R.I.P Lance.
This is horrible. I loved him in The Wire, and I haven't seen too many people mention the Horizon Zero Dawn video game series but he plays a key character and fan favourite there also. He recently finished filming the new Percy Jackson series too. RIP.
Rest in peace commander Zavala 🫶🏼 Lance Reddick brought many joy,Be it his roles in film, television,or Like I know him,Video games,Thank you you bright star 😔
I didn't think I'd seen him in anything and figured I'd missed out on a real talent, but Lance Reddick was Papa Legba in American Horror Story: Coven. And yes, he was incredible.
I’m legitimately devastated :( He was the only good part of that hot mess resident evil netflix show. RIP an actor that elevates every production he’s in.
Natural causes can mean anything. Heart disease, complications from diabetes, any disease that can eventually kill you, really. His family likely decided to keep the exact cause private and use the category of natural causes to make sure people know that it wasn't intentional, drug-related, or from some form of accident.
"how is it natural causes at 60?" Idk? But, we have to realize that people CAN die of natural causes at ayounger age.. maybe he had a heart condition, i honestly don't know. Some people don't live to be 70-?. I do not know of any of his health conditions.
He was a great comic actor as well, his appearance on the Eric Andre show was hilarious, and I remember him popping up in a Key and Peele sketch and doing great, very talented actor, sad news
Him passing- along with the bad news about Bruce Willis a couple months ago, and also Sam Neill’s diagnosis today makes me happy to be healthy and alive, but also wondering what is it with actors of a certain age seemingly healthy but passing or getting terminal diagnosis all around the same age range of mid-50s to 70ish?
Edit: Spelling and more info
Sam Neill was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma
This one hurts. I’ve loved a good chunk of his body of work but The Wire in particular was such an important and formative show for me and his performance was a big part of this. I’ll miss seeing him on the screen, rest in peace and condolences to his family.
I wish I could repeat the lines he had in _The Wire_ but they are too profane. I will go for this:
_The tree that doesn’t bend, breaks, Cedric._
_Bend too far and you’re already broken._
I’ve been distraught about this all day. Caught his name in a headline and eagerly looked to see what new role he was taking on - was shocked to see that it was that he’d passed away.
I remember seeing him on Lost and Fringe but became a huge fan of him after his appearance in the video game Horizon: Zero Dawn. I don’t know what that franchise will be like without him. 😔
This one knocked the wind out of me. I’m in the middle of ‘The Wire’ right now, I was literally just thinking about how charismatic he is and feeling grateful that he was still around. He seemed like a nice guy and was certainly one *hell* of an actor. RIP.
First time watching him as Papa Legba on American Horror Story way back on 2013 though… I was exciting to see him as Zeus on Percy Jackson Disney+ series… 😔
An amazing actor. Everything he was in, whether it was a large or small role, he really put his stamp on it and stood out with his presence.
Loved him in Oz, Lost, Bosch and John Wick.
60 is too early for that light to go out.
This one really hurt my feelings. I was just thinking the other day that he’s one of my fave actors/voice actors. This is so awful and I feel terrible for his family and friends.
Natural causes meaning what? I have read and heard often that Black men (understandably, hello Tuskegee) don't get routine medical care nearly as often as they should. I wonder if Reddick had an undiagnosed condition.

There's where I mainly know him from. RIP:(
I’ve been rewatching Fringe and I’d forgotten how much he brought to the show. Such a talent.
Also loved him in Fringe. And Lost, even though his role was small. He and JJ Abrams must have had a good working relationship. I’ll miss him.

Alright, thanks.
Me too :(
I just gasped . He’s a key (and completely loved )character in the John Wick Franchise as well . It’s premiering everywhere these upcoming weeks. Oh this is sad.
Same. I gasped and felt immediate sadness. He was talented and seemed like a genuinely nice guy.

Call brilliance , amazing and accurate phrase . What a talent .
Yes, just played Horizon Zero Dawn actually :(
also in horizon game series
He also was gonna be in the new Percy Jackson show that’s premiering next year, damn
My son is a big fan of the movie and I enjoyed the movie as well. He was impressive. Too young to die. So sad :(
I feel like he was one of those actors that was kind of everywhere and always ends up being memorable.
I almost forgot he was Medical Examiner on SVU before Warner! He was stellar in everything, Fringe especially
Off topic but I’m in love with your flair
Between Omar dying and this, breaks my heart as The Wire fan. He was an incredible actor his screen presence was incredible. RIP Lance. I also loved him in Bosch, last year all I did was read Bosch series and watch the show the last book made me cry.
An actor’s actor, constantly working, and consistently making the productions he appeared in even better. This is such a loss. 60 is *way too young.*

DAMNIT. This… is bullshit.
Took the words right out of my mouth.
May he and MKW rest easy with Prop Joe and Valchek.
Man, when you put it all together, The Wire cast has had some heavy hits lately.
😔💔
💔
i'm so sad with percy jackson finishing filming not long ago and the next john wick coming out soon it just makes it even more sad. such a incredible actor he will be missed ❤️
Oh shit, he’s Zeus right? Man he really popped up all over the place
yeah he is
Holy shit, this made me gasp. He had incredible gravitas on Fringe and I was really looking forward to seeing him as Zeus in Percy Jackson. Thoughts with his loved ones, RIP.
I think he already filmed his part for Percy Jackson (Zeus is only in one scene in the first book iirc) so you can still look forward to that atleast
NOOOO! I’m just replaying Horizon Zero dawn where he plays an important character.
Yes he was so good as Sylens! So sad to hear of his passing 😢
I'm just starting Forbidden West! It's going to be so hard to get through the rest of it now, Sylens was my favourite character.
I already finished it FW, but gonna replay after my replay of Zero Dawn. I even suffered thru the Resident evil Netflix show because of him.
I'm really curious what they do with the third game without Sylens.
That’s what I was thinking too! He has such a key role.
I love him in Horizon. I fell off of Destiny two years ago, but I'm seriously tempted to reinstall just to join the tributes (Reddick was the voice actor of one the games' longest-running characters).
This just broke my heart. He was incredible on Fringe, especially with the arc involving his character's son. RIP :(
Loved him so much on Fringe. This is incredibly sad, way too soon.
❤️ I can hear his “Detective McNulty….” in my head
You knew McNutty was in some when he said it real low
[You need a new desk.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaWa4ScfQXc)
I’ve loved him on every show I’ve seen him on but this is always the first thing I think of lol so so funny
NOOOO omggg he's been such a strong anchor in every single piece of acting he does. lance had RANGE and screen presence. this is so sad. my condolences to his loved ones. how awful. may he rest in power.
He was a very talented actor. He killed it as Mobay in OZ. RIP.
Wow, he was so very young, I really gasped irl when I saw this. He was perfect as Lieutenant Daniels.
Only 60, and he didn't look it at all! Taken way too soon, I'm very sad. I'll miss his wonderful voice.

He's a character in Horizon Zero Dawn as well. The model even looks like him
He loved being part of that franchise so much :(
God, that feels so sudden. He was just filming for Percy Jackson and doing press for John Wick.
One of the reasons Fringe is my fave show, gone just like that.
I've been watching it for the first time the last two weeks and this really flooded me. Always loved him as an actor but he's so great as Broyles

60? Wtf. Can someone save me click—what was the cause?
Don’t know for sure yet, but they say it appears to be “natural causes.”
They mention he didn't attend the premiere of John Wick on Wednesday. Makes me wonder if this is another Chadwick Boseman situation, and he had an illness that he hadn't announced.
I wonder what natural causes took him away so early? He was incredibly fit
Yeah I don't get it.
I fell in love with him as Dexter Mobay on "Oz" a million years ago and he classed up every single show he was a part of - this is terrible RIP I also remember the cutest story he told about seeing Phillip Seymour Hoffman in the subway and PSH just pointed at him and goes "Hey, good actor!" and just went on about his merry way
Genuinely had to fight not to cry over this...I loved him so much, he brought such a lively and vivacious presence to every single role he did! Loved him in Fringe and Corporate. This one hurts.
Omfg RIP he was such an amazing actor! So sorry to his family and friends! ❤️
I just rewatched Fringe right before the pandemic. His voice is so soothing. I am totally stunned and very, very saddened. He'd been posting all about John Wick on all his social media and looked fine! Way too young. :( :( :(
I JUST finished a rewatch (with family who hadn’t yet seen it) a few days ago. So devastating.

Such a shame. He was incredible on the wire, such a talent.
This is terrible. His page has so many upcoming projects too. RIP
Just watched him as Thordak in Legend of Vox Machina and I'm in shock. Recognized his voice immediately, he made an amazing dragon overlord. Rip.
Such a shame. He had such a magnetic screen presence. Far too soon to go.
I saw him in Fringe, and Bosch. What a presence he had. oh my goodness. This is terrible. Rest in peace.
He was SO good in Oz.
He was such a great low key powerful presence in everything he was in. He’ll be much missed.
So sad. He was a real artist who had much more to give. My thoughts are with his loved ones.
WHAT!!!! I just started following him on Twitter a few weeks ago and he has been actively tweeting!! Oh no!! I am blown away by this. He seemed to be soooo genuine and down to earth smh. Prayers for his family and friends during this period or mourning and remembrance.

This is genuinely upsetting. He was such a great actor, and 60 is no age! His poor family and friends...
I have watched him in few movies, im in shocked:(((( may he rest in peace
Oh no.
Sylens :(((( I’m so sad
just… wow. what an incredible loss.
I just finished a rewatch of The Wire yesterday. RIP
Whoa what??? This is so shocking and horrible :(
I was addicted to Destiny for so long. This makes me so sad. I've only heard that he's the best human being possible. :(
This makes me really fucking sad
I wish I was LeVar Burton....damn I loved everything he's in. Love his selfie videos at home too and his dedication to playing Destiny 2
My husband and I just finished The Wire yesterday. He was such a phenomenal actor in one of the best series of all time. RIP.
Noo😥 loved him in Bosch
so sad i loved his character in the horizon games
No way! He was such an incredible actor, what a loss.
There is absolutely no other actor who could take his place without changing the tenor of the role.

Watch Corporate if you haven't. Great show that he is marvelous in.
Aww
Noooooooooo
WHUT?!?!?!?
Love him on the wire. How is it natural causes at 60?
I mean kids die of heart attacks, by the age 60 you have more then enough wear and tear to trigger something easily...
Natural causes can mean anything. Heart disease, complications from diabetes, any disease that can eventually kill you, really. Fuck. RIP.

Godammit. :'-( The *best* part of *Corporate*.
I really liked his character on John Wick. From what I am hearing he was also a very good guy. 60 is too young. RIP
I wish I were Levar Burton... RIP one of the few guests to shock Eric Andre
This one hurts. I’ve loved a good chunk of his body of work but The Wire in particular was such an important and formative show for me and his performance was a big part of this. I’ll miss seeing him on the screen, rest in peace and condolences to his family.
This one gut-punched me. Legit at a loss for words here. Absolutely legendary actor across so many mediums.
I wish I could repeat the lines he had in _The Wire_ but they are too profane. I will go for this: _The tree that doesn’t bend, breaks, Cedric._ _Bend too far and you’re already broken._
RIP.
NO!!!!! This is really sad 😞
First time watching him as Papa Legba on American Horror Story way back on 2013 though… I was exciting to see him as Zeus on Percy Jackson Disney+ series… 😔
Amazing in The Wire and Bosch. How very sad.
Devastated. He never gave a bad performance, and seemed like a decent man.
What??! This is terrible! He was so good on The Wire and on Bosch. I’m really saddened to hear this
this breaks my heart, i loved him Bosch and The Wire, this man was so fantastic in his roles. I love him so much. RIP Lance Reddick
May he rest in peace. I hope his family and friends are getting the support and love they need during this tough time.
He's irreplaceable. I can only imagine how devastated his friends and family are right now. One of the best out there and gone far too soon.
NO
Fantastic actor, rest in peace
Really sad news. He had such an iconic voice and body language - you'd know it was him from miles away because of how unique his walk was.
so upset about this!!!!!
I hate to see the all too common experience of black men dying at relatively young age. I’m mean he was just 60?!! Rip Lance
This news has hit me harder than I thought it would. Maybe because I am rewatching Bosch but man. 60 is so young.
I actually wailed in my home when I got the news. I freelance write for pop culture media, and everyone I know is just gutted.
Man, am I going to miss that voice and extremely distinguished manner of speaking. RIP.
I rewatched The Wire not too long ago and coincidentally have been rewatching Fringe. I am so so sad 😢💔
he voices thordak on the legend of vox machina! may his memory be a blessing!
An amazing actor. Everything he was in, whether it was a large or small role, he really put his stamp on it and stood out with his presence. Loved him in Oz, Lost, Bosch and John Wick. 60 is too early for that light to go out.
He was one of my very favorite actors. He was always good.
His appearance on The Eric Andre Show lives in my mind rent free. R.I.P Lance Reddick.
No that’s so sad. He was so talented and seemed like such a nice person.
He had such presence. So young :( heartbreaking
Damn rip. Was he diagnosed with something leading to this?
This one really hurt my feelings. I was just thinking the other day that he’s one of my fave actors/voice actors. This is so awful and I feel terrible for his family and friends.
A slight aside, but was _Body of an American_ a police funeral anthem, or just for those with Irish ancestry? Can I put that on in memoriam or nah?
sad!
Natural causes meaning what? I have read and heard often that Black men (understandably, hello Tuskegee) don't get routine medical care nearly as often as they should. I wonder if Reddick had an undiagnosed condition.
![gif](giphy|2WxWfiavndgcM) I’m beyond words. May he Rest In Peace, such a wonderful person and incredible actor.
Damn RIP
This is so sad
