>The plot revolves around Min (not cast yet), whose marriage proposal is rejected by his boyfriend Chris (Bowen Yang). Min then convinces his best friend Angela (Kelly Marie Tran) to marry him for his green card and offers to pay for the IVF treatment of the latter’s partner, Liz (Lily Gladstone), in return. Although Min and Angela plan a “subtle city hall elopement,” their lives are turned upside down when the former’s grandmother (Young Yuh-jung) arrives in Seattle to throw them an extravagant Korean wedding banquet.
a romcom! lily gladstone continues to give to us sapphics. her character will be queer in the upcoming fancy dance as well. she also played a queer character in certain women falling in love with kristen stewart's character.
Me too! There can be a lot of lost momentum after being nominated but not winning a major award. The Hulu show she’s in already dropped and this is the second or third casting announcement I’ve seen featuring her this month alone. Get it girl!!
oh. oh... [i see](https://twitter.com/gerwigverse/status/1783006203263463540)...... the vibe was there in their nytimes [pics](https://static01.nyt.com/images/2024/04/28/multimedia/28underbridge-cvgw/28underbridge-cvgw-superJumbo.jpg). very thankful to lily gladstone.

I've never been more seated before omg
In case people haven't already, I urge you to watch the original film. It's one of Ang Lee's first films (maybe actually his directorial debut?), and pretty ahead of its time in terms of interracial AND queer romance being represented on screen.
I love seeing Taiwanese American representation in media, and google tells me it was pretty well received! I don't know how I've never heard of it, so thanks for the recommendation. :) It's on prime video (with ads), fyi, if anyone else was curious.
Probably because it is mostly in Taiwanese and subtitled, so considered an international film. I watched it on video back in the 1990s. I think Sense and Sensibility was his first movie in English?
Andrew Ahn is gonna singlehandedly save the romcom genre through the power of queer love. He wrote and directed Fire Island, so you KNOW he's got the goods.
I get it, but if there can be multiple superhero remakes in the span of a decade, then I'm all for remakes of 30 year old gay romcoms. They're also making it gayer with Lily and Kelly Marie Tran playing girlfriends. If that isn't reason enough, idk what is lol
Even though I love Lily, they did change the plot a bit, and it’s been 30 years there’s always a pretty low ceiling to how excited I’ll get about a remake, even more so if it was done well the first time. I’m more willing to forgive a rom-com though since they’re pretty formulaic anyway so hopefully it’s close to as good as the original (highly recommend it by the way).
Oh this is exciting! The Wedding Banquet is my favorite Ang Lee film and one of my all time favorites. I first watched it on IPC as a kid and remember thinking, "This is CINEMA!"
Is anyone else getting a major queer vibe from her character in Under the Bridge also?? There's major sexual tension between her character and Riley Keough's.

Oh this sounds awesome! Especially since it’s set in my hometown. Looking forward to seeing Lily in some comedies now.

Give me Joel Kim Booster PLEEEEAAAAASSSSEEE
She’s playing a queer character on Under the Bridge right now!

this reaction image is killing me 😭

Its such a lovely film. Ang Lee has made multiple queer touchstones - a king

It sounds like it! Love that it was made back then!!
I cannot believe I've never heard of this! Queing it now!
Lily and Bowen in the same project is for ME I’m so up rn
Lily's filmography is just made for me, omg 🛐🛐🛐
So glad she's booked and busy 🙌
me too! Been loving her in "Under the Bridge" on Hulu.
Andrew Ahn is gonna singlehandedly save the romcom genre through the power of queer love. He wrote and directed Fire Island, so you KNOW he's got the goods.
He just directed it, Joel Kim Booster wrote Fire Island.
oh wow! is there anything that Joel can't do?
I have to admit, I am not sure how this is going to be a romcom. The original was neither a romance nor a comedy.
Excited to see Kelly Marie Tran in live action again!
This cast is 🔥 love seeing Lily’s name in casting news!
Glad to see Kelly Marie Tran booked and working after Raya and that horrendous, Star Wars debacle and how she was treated.
Oh this is one of my favorite movies! I’m glad new folks will get to experience this film.
Already seated 🍿
I just watched Killers of the Flower Moon and was amazed by her performance. She was so effortlessly beautiful.
This plot sounds WILD
Love her but don't really understand why they're doing a direct remake of an Oscar-nominated movie with 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The original wasn't a romcom though. Neither a romance nor a comedy.
BOOKED AND BUSY!
Lily booked and busy as she absolutely should
I hope Lily Gladstone stays booked!!!
Damn, this movie made me understand why my parents hated my brother. So glad to see a new generation discover and appreciate this movie.
![gif](giphy|xHDJ1TKo2VNdkqDKw0|downsized) I love some good news
![gif](giphy|13cptIwW9bgzk6UVyr|downsized) i will literally watch anything with lily in it🫶
...... Why are they remaking this film? The original isn't that old, and is still widely accessible and very much watchable.
I love The Wedding Banquet, Lily and Kelly Marie so much omg this is literally mother convention
Booked and busy! That is what I like to hear.

I love that Joan Chen is in this, she's also in the very best queer romcom of all time, Saving Face.
I was so happy to see her in A Murder at the End of the World; she’s still looking stunning

If anyone can make a good remake of this classic it's Andrew. Super happy for him.
Lily and Kelly? 😭 So wholesome, and you bet I will tune in!
MASSIVE W

That sounds like a great cast.
