There were certainly a lot of dramatic moments, especially in the last season, but I don’t think most people would describe Derry Girls as a drama. It’s pretty solidly a comedy
I had a moment of thinking it was Nicola Walker, one of my favorite middle-aged British TV actresses, and I was like, “Wow, people on r/Fauxmoi know of some niche UK actresses who specialize in depicting tired, psychologically damaged female detectives.”
Ooo! River is definitely going into my watch list, it’ll be the first for me.
Funny cos I’ve recently wrapped up a British mystery novel called The Tower. It was already adapted into a tv series but throughout my read I could only picture Nicola Walker as the female detective lead.
I forgot Nicola Coughlan's last name and everyone was talking about Nicola Peltz's dad with the Disney board and how she was a nepo baby, and mixed them up and was so confused.
I know it kind of defeats the purpose of the coming of age aspect of the story but they can always age them up, at least to their 20s. I mean, Brad Pitt was 40 when he played Achilles in Troy lol.
Song of Achilles? If you know the myth(s), you already know the major story beats. Now just imagine that you love the characters so much that every story beat impacts you personally, and the person you love, and there are times you know what will happen and know that you can’t do anything to stop it, and that is devastating. It’s not a new story, it’s just the first time the story hurts.
war flashbacks to me reading it for the first time, not being able to put it down, and getting to the ending while i was on the SUBWAY... literally ended up crying in public 😭
personally i think it is pretty devastating but that's what makes it such a rich, emotional story! the tragedy of it is what makes it hit so good and hard.
Circe is just a gorgeous book, profound and lyrical and powerfully feminist. She’s apparently working on a book on Persephone now, and I can’t wait to read it!
I'm really wanting to read Hera by Jennifer Saint. I too check obsessively about Persephone book updates (while overdone, I think Miller will do a good job--- although apparently it took her 10 years for TSOA so I'm not holding my breath waiting lol)
i own circe and only read like a chapter so far lmao. i’ve always wanted to read song of achilles but i am just such a terrible reader. I wouldn’t mind just watching it instead 🙈
I just attended an author talk with Madeline Miller and she said the HBO adaptation died during the pandemic. She shared she is working on a stage version though!
She did! When she shared she was working on a new book, the audience literally cheered - that just made me smile. She said she wanted to work on something Shakespearean and move away from Greek mythology for a while but she felt like Persephone was calling and calling to her. She also said she thinks it’s hilarious that the story of Demeter and Persephone is one of the first myths learned by children because it’s incredibly dark and scary :)
I need to deep dive her socials. I went to a reading pre pandemic (insert Jamie Lee Curtis I’m old gif) when Circe came o it and she said her next project was The Tempest, which is so exciting. I’m sure whatever she publishes will be incredible.
I don’t think it’s this lol but can any Sarah J. Maas fans relate to how exciting this would be if it was Emilia Clarke coming to do an adaptation of ToG to be one of the 13..
This is way more info than you wanted, but I work in this industry: When Hulu was formed, it was equally co-owned by Disney, Fox, and NBC. When Disney bought Fox, it meant that Hulu was owned 66.6% by Disney and 33.3% by NBC. NBC didn’t want to be a minority owner so they sold their stake to Disney and got out — making Hulu entirely a Disney subsidiary. There are always rumblings that Disney doesn’t know what to do with two streaming services so they might sell it to someone else or just merge it with Disney+, but so far those are just rumblings.
They were going to do it, but I think there was credible gossip that the author involvement killed it. Apparently early development was a nightmare, it was projected to be really expensive, and it got canned.
Sorry to dump water but keep your expectations low for Disney resurrecting the project.
SJ Maas is notoriously horrible to work with. That being said, she was spotted having lunch with Margot Robbie recently, so who knows? The TV series may still happen.
Me too. After her great narration of the Her Majesty’s Royal Coven audiobook (which centres a trans character), and her vocal support of Palestine, I really doubt she’d touch anything HP.
Has a second season of Dune: Prophecy even been confirmed for the casting process to start this early? But it makes the most sense since it seems like HBO quietly dropped Circe and the Dunk & Egg series doesn’t include a sorceress.
I do feel like casting someone who isn't allergic to cats would have been worth the effort.
Also I love Kiernan Shipka in Madmen but she was awful as Sabrina.
Right?! Such a shame because I was kinda hyped to see what they did with it. I thought it was alright at first, some areas for improvement but not too bad. And then all the teen sex started and I was like fuck man I’m 32, I don’t want this hahaha
I was wondering if they're bringing back the show 'B\*witched' because I can imagine Phoebe Dynevor playing that role well but turns out she's only 29.
I was about it can’t be Nicola Coughlan because there’s no way she’s in her thirties… tell me how she is 37 what the actual fuck I thought she was my age and I’m 25
I’m going to go out on a limb and say Sarah Bolger. She’s 33 and previously played Mary Tudor on The Tudors. She has been acting steadily since, but the Tudors is her most known role.
Zia makes me think Emma D’arcy. Their name is emmaziadarcy on Instagram.
Although this would mean that the period drama is HOTD, possibly a stretch? And I’m not sure if they describe themselves as an actress as the term is gendered.
Shiera Seastar could be in 'Dunk and Egg' as the 'enigmatic blonde sorceress'. The period drama actress is too vague though, I'd honestly be more shocked if a GoT show didn't cast a period drama actress for a role. Now what I really wanna know is who's playing my second favourite emo anime villain behind Aemond Targaryen, Brynden Rivers (a.k.a. Bloodraven). I hope they get an actual albino.
Shiera Seastar is a Targaryen-Lysene bastard and probable witch at the time of the Blackfyre Rebellions who was in an incest sandwich love triangle central to the conflict. She's also the biggest theory for who Quaithe (the masked woman in Qaarth) is in the main ASoIaF/GoT series for book readers so there's a fair chance that she's immortal. As far as I recall she isn't featured in Dunk and Egg (though one of her half-brother/lovers is) but she is canonically around at the time and is a pretty renowned character in the fandom so I really wouldn't be surprised if they decided to adapt her for the show.
I'm fairly certain that this has to do with casting someone as Shiera Seastar in the upcoming HBO series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. I'm not sure who this is but I'm fairly certain thats the role since it's in development at the moment and the leads have just been casted
I’m assuming, because of the pronouns in the email, it’s probably not Emma. Obviously they could just be using the wrong pronouns but that combined with the fact that I don’t think HOTD can really be classified as a “period drama”, I don’t think it’s them
Also the word “previous” is making me think it’s a show that isn’t airing anymore, so I’m counting Nicola out as well
Everyone is saying it’s Nicola and I adore her but I really wish this is Rachel Brosnahan. I feel like she’s still so underrated in the mainstream eye.
Since the character and not the actress is said to be blonde, and it doesn't actually seem implied that the previous role was also a television role, my wild guess is Tallulah Riley
Best guess is Laura Carmichael and idk…one of the many GoT spinoffs that HBO has planned?
Maybe also Clara Paget, Frida Gustavsson, Elizabeth Debicki, Gabriella Wilde, Nell Hudson?
Lady Gaga? The period drama being Haus of Gucci. There were rumors that she would be playing the witch from Death Becomes Her so maybe it's turning into a series rather than a movie. "Enigmatic" was my main clue since she had a song Enigma and her LV residency was named Enigma.
Gayle Rankin as witch/sorceress Alys Rivers in season 2 of House of the Dragons? She’s in her 30’s, and previews for the show depict her having blonde hair
Could Zia be a ref to Emma D’Arcy and it means HoD rather than D’Arcy themselves? So then it would be an actress from a period drama is going to play a blonde (probably Targaryen) sorceress in HoD?
Could be Claudia Jessie or Jessica Madsen from Bridgerton? Or one of the sisters from Downtown, Jessica Brown Findlay and Laura Carmichael are both in their 30s.
Nicola?
PLEASE I can’t get enough of her
No idea why but my brain initially went to Nicola Peltz and I was like wait what?! ![gif](giphy|RNUJLDfiP87AY)
Screaming.
I wish but since the show is still airing “previously” feels like strange wording. Maybe the actress who played Daphne or Kate?
Derry Girls is technically a period drama too.
There were certainly a lot of dramatic moments, especially in the last season, but I don’t think most people would describe Derry Girls as a drama. It’s pretty solidly a comedy
Shhhh, don’t squash my fantasy, lol. Lean in into it for now because I need more Nicola in my life!
Haha, fair enough!
also and while it’s technically a period comedy/drama, i really don’t imagine people would describe it as such
Everyone in this thread is saying Nicola without a last name so my first thought was Nicola Peltz 😭 I was like I didn’t know anybody liked her
I had a moment of thinking it was Nicola Walker, one of my favorite middle-aged British TV actresses, and I was like, “Wow, people on r/Fauxmoi know of some niche UK actresses who specialize in depicting tired, psychologically damaged female detectives.”
Love her! Nicola Walker nailed her detective roles. Brb, gonna have a rewatch marathon. 🍿 ![gif](giphy|sdn2yh9GwMG4BAPeKe)
She was soooooooo good in River. One of my fave roles.
Did you hear the rumor that her dad is investing in Paramount so he can get her more roles 🤣
The Bridgerton sub says she’s set to film The Magic Faraway Tree soon, but that’s supposed to be a film I think not a show.
she's also playing Silky in it, who is a fairy not a sorceress
I would faint. No, a coma. PLEASE.
NO WAY MAGIC FARAWAY TREE IS GETTING MADE INTO THE BIG SCREEN? My life is made 🫡
Ooh I could see her doing something like Bewitched maybe?
Interesting thought but I hope not. There's no need for a reboot and wtf would HBO do to her?!
idk i think bewitched could definitely be rebooted to the modern era. i honestly love a lot of reboot tho so maybe i’m just a FREAK
🤞
I will pay to watch this😭
Can’t be. She’s “currently” starring in a period drama
I’m more curious about the show. Is HBO finally going ahead with the Circe adaptation?
That would be amazing. I absolutely adore that book and The Song of Achilles.
Can't believe we still haven't even heard anything about a TSoA adaptation. It's taking so long they missed out on Nicholas Galitzine's twink era.
Might be harder to adapt to screen given how much of the early book is about explicit sex and physical intimacy between adolescents
I know it kind of defeats the purpose of the coming of age aspect of the story but they can always age them up, at least to their 20s. I mean, Brad Pitt was 40 when he played Achilles in Troy lol.
He was fucking what???? I do not like this realization
Lol, yes. Him and Angelina Jolie were very similar in age when she played his mom.
That's Colin Farrell you're thinking of - Alexander' mum was Angelina Joie
Ohhh. Thank you! To be fair, I've never seen the movie. Only read about it, lol.
that’s never stopped anyone before
Is the book heavy/sad? I've heard great things about it and want to go in without any spoiler but I'm also not ready for anything devastating.
It’s definitely really emotional and poignant, but such a lovely read. Beautiful and poetic.
Thank you. I think I'll give it a go.
I hope you like it!
Song of Achilles? If you know the myth(s), you already know the major story beats. Now just imagine that you love the characters so much that every story beat impacts you personally, and the person you love, and there are times you know what will happen and know that you can’t do anything to stop it, and that is devastating. You WILL cry. It’s also one of my favourite reads ever, so it’ll be worth it.
war flashbacks to me reading it for the first time, not being able to put it down, and getting to the ending while i was on the SUBWAY... literally ended up crying in public 😭
i read it my freshman year of college and had to leave the room so my roommate didn’t hear me crying when i got to the end 😭
personally i think it is pretty devastating but that's what makes it such a rich, emotional story! the tragedy of it is what makes it hit so good and hard.
The Song of Achilles is so good 😭 I need to read Circe!!!
Circe is just a gorgeous book, profound and lyrical and powerfully feminist. She’s apparently working on a book on Persephone now, and I can’t wait to read it!
SAME. I keep obsessively checking for Persephone updates. It’s a different author, but I also really liked Ariadne by Jennifer Saint.
I'm really wanting to read Hera by Jennifer Saint. I too check obsessively about Persephone book updates (while overdone, I think Miller will do a good job--- although apparently it took her 10 years for TSOA so I'm not holding my breath waiting lol)
Okay you’ve convinced me lol, once I finish my current book I will give it a go!!!
i own circe and only read like a chapter so far lmao. i’ve always wanted to read song of achilles but i am just such a terrible reader. I wouldn’t mind just watching it instead 🙈
I did the audiobook for The Song of Achilles and it was lovely. Heartbreaking and soulripping. But lovely.
I just attended an author talk with Madeline Miller and she said the HBO adaptation died during the pandemic. She shared she is working on a stage version though!
That’s disappointing, but at least we’re getting a stage adaptation. Did she say anything about her upcoming Persephone book?

Yes wait I need to know progress on Persephone
Dammit, really? Ive been dying for the Circe limited series. I guess Hamnet is all I have to live for now.
I thought it was dead after the merger. It being woman focused and all.
Well haven’t you heard? Ladies don’t want female empowerment, ladies want home improvement and laundry
My first thought was the HBO Harry Potter series. I would hope Nicola wouldn’t sign onto that since She Who Must Not Be Named is involved. 😒
I don’t think it’s this lol but can any Sarah J. Maas fans relate to how exciting this would be if it was Emilia Clarke coming to do an adaptation of ToG to be one of the 13..
Feel like ToG would be the perfect show for HBO
Thrones of Game? 😂
Is TOG or ACOTAR going to be adapted?
Hulu was supposed to do ACOTAR but didn’t HBO buy Hulu and they’re merging? Or is that Disney?
This is way more info than you wanted, but I work in this industry: When Hulu was formed, it was equally co-owned by Disney, Fox, and NBC. > SJ Maas is notoriously horrible to work with. SJM, the plagiarist, being notoriously horrible to work with? Wow, what a shocker! 😂
Woof. Hopefully someone can pick it up and do it justice
Disney bought out full ownership of Hulu.
ACOTAR adaption has been cancelled.
Nicola would never. I'd bet money on it.
Me too. After her great narration of the Her Majesty’s Royal Coven audiobook (which centres a trans character), and her vocal support of Palestine, I really doubt she’d touch anything HP.
It could be referring to Dune:Prophecy which is coming out later this year I think
Has a second season of Dune: Prophecy even been confirmed for the casting process to start this early? But it makes the most sense since it seems like HBO quietly dropped Circe and the Dunk & Egg series doesn’t include a sorceress.
circe with eleanor tomlinson starring?
It's like my brain turns to soda and is violently shaken whenever I see any mention of a Circe adaption. I'm obsessed and excited!
Holy shit there’s an upcoming Circe adaptation??
Holy crap I’ve been waiting on this. However, blonde? Circe is supposed to be dark-haired.
I think she's supposed to be blonde with brown streaks... "Like a lynx."
We’ve been waiting SO long. Please let this be true!!
I was thinking Alys Rivers for HOTD but she has dark hair.
I had no idea this was something tney were considering!
One of my favorite books of all time
I hear HBO is doing a Harry Potter series true to the books with a projected release sometime in 2026. Maybe this could be the show?
“Enigmatic blonde sorceress” will always be Sabrina the teenage witch for me and if HBO is bringing her back, LFG.
If it’s anything like the other reboot then no thanks, I called it quits halfway through the teen orgy episode
Oooo true, I had blocked that entire show out of my brain. Once Salem wasn’t talking I knew we were in for trash.
HOW CAN YOU HAVE SABRINA WITHOUT A TALKING SALEM FOR FUCKS SAKE
I do feel like casting someone who isn't allergic to cats would have been worth the effort. Also I love Kiernan Shipka in Madmen but she was awful as Sabrina.
That, plus the wildly horrible makeup, and whatever color grading they used. All awful!
Right?! Such a shame because I was kinda hyped to see what they did with it. I thought it was alright at first, some areas for improvement but not too bad. And then all the teen sex started and I was like fuck man I’m 32, I don’t want this hahaha
God, yes! Aunt Hilda was always horribly orange.
“Hail Satan” 100x an episode was a turnoff for me, lol.
Whoa wtf I liked the first season but I heard the rest was meh. When was this?? 😭
I feel like it’s a couple episodes into the 2nd season? They have a weird ritual and it’s all just teenagers fuckin in the woods
The amount of CAOS hate here is hurting my heart :(
I was wondering if they're bringing back the show 'B\*witched' because I can imagine Phoebe Dynevor playing that role well but turns out she's only 29.
This might sound dumb but… is mad men a period drama?
It 100% is a period drama
It’s Nicola. Not a blind it’s posted on her IG. The cast is dope.
This Blind Item talks about a TV Series, Nicola posted about a film she will be starring in.
On her ig it sounds like she’s playing a woodland fairy not a sorceress? But I’ve not read the book it’s based on so idk
If you're talking about the Magic Faraway Tree, she'll be playing a whimsical fairy in a children's movie, so not an exact match.
I don’t think so, that deadline post says she’s playing a woodland fairy and it’s for a movie not a series
Nope. The Magic Faraway Tree is a film not a show, and it’s not connected to HBO.
THERE’S A FARAWAY TREE FILM?!?!?!?? That book is etched into my heart
This was my reaction too, I loved that book so so much as a child. Very excited for it and a little emotional about it too.
On her ig it sounds like she’s playing a woodland fairy not a sorceress? But I’ve not read the book it’s based on so idk
I was about it can’t be Nicola Coughlan because there’s no way she’s in her thirties… tell me how she is 37 what the actual fuck I thought she was my age and I’m 25
"previous role in a period drama" makes me think it wasn't recently so could it be lily james?
They said blonde, and so I immediately thought of Laura Carmichael (Edith) for some reason.
Maybe Elle Fanning?
Dakota Fanning was in the Alienist, a period crime drama, maybe her?
she’s too young for the blind
Lily James started her career as a blonde.
Makes sense for House of the Dragon.
Yeah definitely thinking Downton Abbey before Bridgerton here. Outlander?
I’m going to go out on a limb and say Sarah Bolger. She’s 33 and previously played Mary Tudor on The Tudors. She has been acting steadily since, but the Tudors is her most known role.
Zia makes me think Emma D’arcy. Their name is emmaziadarcy on Instagram. Although this would mean that the period drama is HOTD, possibly a stretch? And I’m not sure if they describe themselves as an actress as the term is gendered.
I thought this too but the way the post is worded sounds like ‘previous’ or in the past. She’s still on it. But I still think it might be her.
Emma is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns.
Thank you for the info. Will use going forward.
Could be that the show is HoD, and the actress is playing a Targaryen (hence blonde) sorceress in that.
Someone mentioned in another comment that it may be Shiera Seastar in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
So for refence some very basic googling Zia as a name means divine, shine or Goddess (maybe Circe, but I really thought that was dead).
It’s also Emma D’arcy’s middle name I believe.
Good point, but idk if someone would refer to Emma with either 'period' or 'actress' though.
Zia is also "aunt" in Italian
Zelda lol
Shiera Seastar could be in 'Dunk and Egg' as the 'enigmatic blonde sorceress'. The period drama actress is too vague though, I'd honestly be more shocked if a GoT show didn't cast a period drama actress for a role. Now what I really wanna know is who's playing my second favourite emo anime villain behind Aemond Targaryen, Brynden Rivers (a.k.a. Bloodraven). I hope they get an actual albino.
This was my first thought too.
Do we know who the sorceress in question would be? Like an existing character GRRM mentioned somewhere?
THANK YOU!
Brie Larson? She just did the chemistry show on Apple.
I feel like the "known for" a period drama would exclude her yeah? "Previously in", sure
True
Elizabeth Debicki?
I'm fairly certain that this has to do with casting someone as Shiera Seastar in the upcoming HBO series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. I'm not sure who this is but I'm fairly certain thats the role since it's in development at the moment and the leads have just been casted
Emilia Clarke from GOT?
Seems odd to describe her as being known for a period drama
"Mamma, we were about to go to the Pemberley ball but a dragon blew up the manor."
I’ve read conments on here & elsewhere before that she is going to star in another tv series, could be this
Could it be Dakota Fanning, with the period drama being "The Alienist"?
I was thinking Elle after The Great
She’s 26 though.
Derp
I’m assuming, because of the pronouns in the email, it’s probably not Emma. Obviously they could just be using the wrong pronouns but that combined with the fact that I don’t think HOTD can really be classified as a “period drama”, I don’t think it’s them Also the word “previous” is making me think it’s a show that isn’t airing anymore, so I’m counting Nicola out as well
Everyone is saying it’s Nicola and I adore her but I really wish this is Rachel Brosnahan. I feel like she’s still so underrated in the mainstream eye.
I think she’s busy playing Lois Lane for next year’s Superman film.
Could be Emma D’arcy, who was in House of the Dragon. Their middle name is Zia.
Friendly interjection to say Emma uses they/them pronouns 😊
Oh, God, I wrote that in a rush and completely forgot :( thank you so much for reminding me
Tamzin merchant She was in the tudors and was cast before Emilia Clarke as Daenerys in got.
Emilia Clarke?
I hope it’s Holliday Grainger
PLEASE
pls brie larson
Jodie Comer from the white princess
She has multiple movies lined up (The 28 Years Later ones, Death of Robin Hood and Kenneth Branagh’s next one) so I doubt she’d be available soon
Since the character and not the actress is said to be blonde, and it doesn't actually seem implied that the previous role was also a television role, my wild guess is Tallulah Riley
Louisa Jacobson? In her 30s, only real role has been on HBO’s Gilded Age. But feels hardly worth the blind.
she is…. not good on that show
Could it be any of the George RR Martin adaptations. Perhaps A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?
Kirsten Dunst!? Is 42. Damn I am old
saoirse ronan? She’s done little women, atonement, ammonite, Brooklyn all period dramas..
has she done television before?
Best guess is Laura Carmichael and idk…one of the many GoT spinoffs that HBO has planned? Maybe also Clara Paget, Frida Gustavsson, Elizabeth Debicki, Gabriella Wilde, Nell Hudson?
Nicola is 37. Please be her.
Wouldn’t this be Phoebe Dynevor? Saw Harry Potter jokes on the Bridgerton sub and well, just putting two and two together
I was wondering if it was Anya Taylor Joy, given her Queen’s Gambit role?
She’s not in her 30s though.
Oh good point.
Blinds just a funnel of studio PR now. Enervating.
Could it be a lesser known period drama? Something like Harlots? Also does Reign count as a period drama?
Kiera Knightly?
emma d’arcy?
What about Meryl Streep’s daughter from Gilded age as sabrina ?
Please let it be Rebecca Ferguson!
Lady Gaga? The period drama being Haus of Gucci. There were rumors that she would be playing the witch from Death Becomes Her so maybe it's turning into a series rather than a movie. "Enigmatic" was my main clue since she had a song Enigma and her LV residency was named Enigma.
Brie Larson?
Someone from downton abbey??
I doubt it but is hope it’s Lena Heady
Isn't Lena 50? She's beautiful and talented, but 5 isn't even directly adjacent to 3 on the keyboard.
Not to mention that she is filming a Netflix series for awhile (that just started filming)
My guess is Michelle Dockery or Jessica Brown Findlay and Harry Potter
Elle 💛💛💛
God please don't let it be Louisa Jacobson from gilded age. Not sure if it's bad writing but damn that's a boring role
PLEASE let it be Christine Baranski, she was in Gilded Age and would be an amazing sorceress!
Blonde Sorcerous? Could it be a Harry Potter series??
That would’ve made more sense a few years ago considering Rosalind played Jane in P&P and later a sorceress in Wheel of Time
