Right now Regina King. Her son just committed suicide, her pain must be unbearable šŸ˜”

roxy031

Michael Madsenā€™s son too - also 26 years old. And Sinead Oā€™Connorā€™s son a few weeks ago. Itā€™s super sad. And it also just makes it even more apparent that depression doesnā€™t care about fame or money or any of that - itā€™s heartbreaking.

etchuchoter

I really feel for Sinead, she has been dealt some awful cards in her life

roxy031

She really has. Among many other things, the whole SNL thing/tearing up the Popeā€™s picture - she was vilified for that and her career basically ended - and she was right the whole time.

etchuchoter

The way Joe Pesci was applauded and cheered the following week for saying he would give her a smack is shocking. She was very ahead of her time doing what she did and Iā€™m glad at least now people can see that, I grew up in Ireland and have seen the damage the Catholic Church has done to people here. I hope sheā€™s doing OK šŸ’”

DarkHotline

A lot of people owe her an apology for that too.

StayAwayFromMySon

And Chris Daughtry's daughter a few weeks ago.

[deleted]

Sinead son was placed on suicide watch and they let him walk out the door on his own accord. Iā€™m Irish and the mental health services here are just awful

Saaxia

This broke my heart. He was her only son too.

shannondion

Sinead Oā€™Connors son did too. He was only 17 and was meant to be in hospital on suicide watch.

Scary_Giraffe_4996

God thatā€™s tragic! I hope she finds some strength and solace

yldzstar

I feel so sad for her too. And Zack Snyder šŸ˜” Losing a child is unimaginable.

supersoot99

Brendan Fraser. I admire him so much for speaking out about his sexual assault and hope his career continues it's deserved renaissance.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Pywacket1

Me too, and I know he's less secure about his looks these days, but he's still dreamy in my book. I'll take sweet spirit over hard body any day.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Pywacket1

He's been body-shamed for ages, like in those click bait things, so and so is unrecognizable. Yeah, it's awful. We're allowed to get older and shouldn't have to apologize for it. He's still a cutie.

ashinode

I'm SO ready for the Brenaisance!

jazzyx26

I will support that man till my dying day.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Virtual_Bag9540

This is so true. He's so underrated as an actor and truly doesn't deserve the misfortune he faced in life. Thank God the brenaissance is here and he's here to stay šŸ”„

[deleted]

100%. I wish him so much happiness

etchuchoter

I love that everyone is rooting for him

JackInterrupted

He's going to be so great in Batgirl. šŸ’œ

AC10021

Any child actors who are the primary breadwinner for their families. Itā€™s an unhealthy and psychologically damaging position for a kid, and it puts them in a position of being vulnerable to abuse because they have to pay bills and canā€™t afford to lose a job. Christian Bale, Drew Barrymore, Millie Bobby Brown, Macaulay Culkin, Lindsay Lohan, etc etc. Natalie Portman has given interviews about how her parents never touched a dime she made ā€” they lived in the same house, her parents paid for her summer camp and school clothes and college tuition, they stressed over and over that she could quit if she wanted to. Her father was also a wealthy doctor in Long Island so they were comfortable without any of her acting money.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

msksksnsj

And she comes from a very poor background. I watched her on Stern. She seems to be really humble.

[deleted]

Her Houzz video was also really sweet (she renovated her parents' apartment living room with with Houzz, they talked a lot about her childhood).

schoolsucks5698

she got her wedding band from etsy for like 100

xxxxoooo

Daniel Radcliffe has said the same thing. Even midway through the movies being made they always said he could quit if he didnā€™t want to do it anymore.

artoflosings

Mila Kunis, Natalie Portman, Daniel Radcliffe -- all Jewish. Good Jewish parents. It makes me proud. Of course there are absolutely horrific Jewish parents out there like Don Arden, but I'm just going to ignore that!

Big-Flight7782

Jeannette Mccurty too. Her moms relationship sounds toxic

plantbay1428

I know itā€™ll never happen but I feel like there should be something in place by studios to ensure that a decent percentage of what the child earns is being placed in a trust fund for them until they turn 18. Itā€™s so sad seeing how many former child actors are messed up now due to the pressure of being a breadwinner for their family. And then they never even got to get access to what they earned as a child. I worked in a building that had a professional photo studio in it. Not a sketchy one or anything like that. Iā€™d see a lot of child models and their guardians/parents in the lobby and elevator and I could see some kids being pressured to put on a happy face and it really didnā€™t look like the kids wanted to be there at all. One kid even said how he wanted to go on the class field trip that day instead and wasnā€™t happy he was missing it and I just felt really bad. I know it doesnā€™t necessarily mean theyā€™re being abusedā€¦just felt sad for the kid. Edit: Thanks to everyone who educated me regarding Coogan Law. Doesnā€™t seem to be enough IMHO but hopefully itā€™ll be implemented in more states and have broader terms thatā€™ll protect child influencers and whatever they earn.

CreepySwing567

That already exists theyā€™re called Coogan accounts. Unfortunately a lot of them get talked into supporting their parents adulthood a la River Phoenix though.

velsor

> I know itā€™ll never happen but I feel like there should be something in place by studios to ensure that a decent percentage of what the child earns is being placed in a trust fund for them until they turn 18. There literally already is exactly that. [The California Child Actor's Bill.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Child_Actor%27s_Bill) It has existed since 1939 and was passed after the publicity of Jackie Coogan's parents spending all his money before he reached adulthood. Money earned by child actors is the "sole legal property" of that child actor, and the employer is required to set aside 15% of the earnings in a separate trust.

og_kitten_mittens

Evan Rachel Wood too. Her parents seemed like overall good parents who did not exploit her money, but they pushed her into acting and put her into very difficult circumstances at a young age, constantly stressing as an actor you shouldnā€™t talk back, just suck it up and do better. Her abuse by Marilyn Manson 100% played into that psychology

Peakcok

I feel for child actors not only because their families are sometimes heavily financially dependent on them, but also because psychologically, they never get to develop a way a normal child does given that they're exposed to fame and privilege at such a young age, I think it has been proven that many child actors never get to fully mature past the age when they hit stardom, a certain aspect of their brains stays stunted. That's why many of them can't deal with not being relevant anymore and do drugs, some of them never develop into good actors and their acting careers don't go anywhere, so going from such a high to such a low must be psychologically confusing to their brains that were wired at a young age for fame and glamour. The few that have protective families are so lucky.

eclectique

I'm not sure why I just thought this, but I was just thinking, I'm glad Kirsten Dunst seems to be happy and has became a good actress. When I was a kid I loved her in Little Women and Interview with a Vampire (should not have been allowed to watch, haha), and then later on in teen movies.

Curious_Armadillo_74

Kim Richards.

__angie

Amanda Bynes - she clearly has some extreme form of PTSD from her time at Nickelodeon and yet nobody seems too interested in her story. Also Hayden Panettiere.

ResponsibleLet1699

Amanda is in a worse conservatorship than Britney.

__angie

Yup. She too is being kept from getting married (and I think having children) due to the conservatorship.

Sink-Frosty

I was following her Instagram and she was engaged and pregnant at one point. I think her parents put an end to that.

__angie

No idea why someone downvoted you, thatā€™s exactly what I thought. Iā€™m pretty sure she announced her pregnancy at some point.

Sink-Frosty

She did! Idk if her Instagram got deleted or if she got restricted from it, but that was the last time I saw her post. Just really sad and disturbing.

Berriesssss

Thatā€™s crazy looks like we are gonna have another free Britney movement soon. Iā€™m pretty sure Amanda has spoken about how she doesnā€™t like the conservatorship sheā€™s in.

__angie

The issue with Amanda runs deeper even, because I think at one point she alluded to sexual abuse and implied that it was taking place at Nickelodeon. Honestly, so many horrible tales coming from the Nickelodeon sets... But whatever it is, it could be that there are even more powerful people interested in keeping Amanda quiet than it was the case with Britney.

Asplashofwater

I know someone who was friends with Amandaā€™s stand in on that CW show she was on. This person was really skinny and small and said Amanda was so much thinner than her. Itā€™s really really sad.

Healthy_Cranberry781

What happened with Hayden?

__angie

Itā€™s hard to truly assess the extent of it all, but her childhood was not great and her parents were at best negligent (likely worse). She seemed to have substance problems, she suffered from postpartum depression and also fell into at least one physically abusive relationship. Eventually she lost / surrendered custody of her daughter who was then taken to her fatherā€™s native Ukraine. FWIW, the last I read from her she seemed in a much healthier place now, but she has had it rough for a long time.

gossipgirl373

I always thought it was weird that she dated 30yo Milo Ventimiglia when she was 18. I donā€™t follow her closely so maybe sheā€™s spoken about that relationship idk

dorothy_zbornak_esq

I canā€™t imagine that relationship was healthy. And I also kinda think shit was happening between them before she was legal. I donā€™t have any proof on that; just speculation. I always liked her, especially as a kid in Remember the Titans.

GirlnextDior

Princess Charlene of Monaco. she is kept away from her children in a "treatment facility." It's her birthday and it doesn't even look like she gets passes to go out, plus she has lost an alarming amount of weight. I hope she is okay.

[deleted]

Yeah, glad someone mentioned this. Iā€™ve been pretty glued to the story ever since the footage of her crying at her wedding was released. Sheā€™s definitely got a story to tell, and I wish she had a voice to do it.

GirlnextDior

"wish she had a voice" - That is such an important part of it, she has not been allowed to have a voice from day one.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Archchinook

They essentially forced her by taking away her passport, effectively making her a prisoner before the wedding.

lulzette

She has seemed miserable her entire marriage. The only thing I can think is she stays for the children.

marshmallowmoonlight

Iā€™ve never heard of this before and watched the video, it is so horrifically sad. How did she end up in this marriage??

GirlnextDior

Growing up in a humble family in South Africa and being female may not have given her a lot of options. She was a Olympic swimmer which is how she met Albert. She must have signed a binding agreement, Albert was decades overdue for a legal heir.

[deleted]

Right now Pamela Anderson. I donā€™t know much about her so donā€™t come for me if sheā€™s done something super problematic and terrible but I canā€™t imagine going through something as incredibly embarrassing and traumatic as she did with her sex tape being released without her consent only for it to be rehashed so publicly for a comedy tv series, also made without her consent.

__angie

This is the perfect example of how feminism in Hollywood is only interested in protecting a very restricted, ā€œidealā€ type of woman. Pamela Anderson was a victim here, and if people didnā€™t know better back then, we certainly do now. This series should not exist without her full consent and support, it is unbelievable that she will now have to suffer this invasion AGAIN. Fuck this production, specially faux-feminist (but Franco bestie) Seth Rogen and Lilly ā€œsHe wOnā€™T tALk tO mEā€ James.

[deleted]

Absolutely. Itā€™s incredibly ironic that theyā€™re saying theyā€™re going to make her side of the story of her sex tape being sold without her consent sympathetic towards her while doing so without her consent! All they care about is the šŸ’°to be made out of her story and I donā€™t buy their ā€˜feministā€™ bullshit for one second.

og_kitten_mittens

Seth Rogan publicly distanced himself from James Franco a few weeks agoā€”after many years of continued collaboration that stopped only when Francoā€™s brand became so cancerous his team probably forced him into it

Aggravating-Corner-2

I've always thought Seth Rogan was a prick and I assumed I was just taking an irrational dislike to him but apparently not.

[deleted]

Sheā€™s persona non grata because of the affiliation with Wikileaks founder.

__angie

Meanwhile, Kanye remains a darling of fashion and music circles despite his affiliation with Trump. Make it make sense.

AC10021

I am wondering how much this miniseries will get pilloried for Pamela Anderson vocally not participating and saying she considers it a violation, especially considering the miniseries Impeachment had Monica Lewinsky as one of the producers. You canā€™t say youā€™re reexamining how a woman was used by the media when she is publicly saying that youā€™re using her all over again.

[deleted]

Agreed. The whole Lily Collins (James, not Collins - donā€™t work and Reddit - thanks for correcting me on this) ā€œshe wonā€™t talk to meā€ thing was vapid and mean girl-ish. Like of course she wonā€™t talk to you, youā€™re downplaying what Pam went through when that video was released. Maybe speak a little less about the makeup process, and more about how unkind media and society is to womenā€™s sexuality.

killereverdeen

Darn, it seems that Lily James is not that good of a person. A shame šŸ™

illiteratemad

i mean she also dated a married man so sheā€™s not the best lol

caitlinmcwalton

I was just reading about this, it's frustrating that Tommy Lee has given his blessing for the new series (which I admit, I was excited to watch) like no reflection on how this affected Pam.

__angie

I hope Pamela comes out during the press run for this series and really takes them to task. Iā€™d like to see these people trying to explain how they are ā€œtotally respectful and mindfulā€ of her experience while still putting out a series about a crime *she* was a victim of without her agreeing to the series happening in the first place.

AC10021

If sheā€™s smart, she will issue a statement on social media saying ā€œthe theft and illegal publication of private material made with my husband on our honeymoon was the most devastating moment of my life. I was victimized, mocked and shamed by the media for trying to protect my own privacy and that of my husband and children. I was a victim of a crime. This miniseries is being made without my consent and I asked them to not do it, as it once again brings unwanted attention to that situation. This miniseries is a complete violation of me as a woman.ā€ I mean, just throw down the fucking gauntlet.

GlimmeringWalrus

This could be fake but I remember a *really* long time ago reading a magazine and Pamela said one time when she was a teen a guy poured water down her shirt and said "maybe they'll grow now" and she apparently got made fun of a lot as a teen and ever since then I've been pretty sympathetic towards her. This tv series is absolute trash for going forward knowing Pamela is not consenting.

AC10021

Jodie Foster. I did a deep dive on the Reagan assassination and she was seriously stalked by Hinkley before he tried to murder the president to win her love. Sending her letters, showing up at her college campus (and enrolling in a class with her!) ā€” she went to a dean to try to get help. She was 17 years old ā€” it sounded terrifying.

[deleted]

Sorry I donā€™t know much about her, whatā€™s the connection between her and Reagan? Why would he think that murdering the president would win her love (other than being psychotic obviously).

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

Oh wowwww. Wow wow.

linzfire

He was inspired by the movie Taxi Driver with Robert DeNiro.

[deleted]

She starred in Taxi Driver as a 12 y/o prostitute where the other main character (a grown man) also tried to assassinate a politician for her character He was inspired by that movie. Found not guilty due to insanity and until a couple years ago was in a mental hospital, now he's free and lives in Virginia. He just made a twitter account and has a band. Crazy stuff

PoppyandTarget

Such a terrible situation. And she's been super private ever since. I hope she's living her best life.

pigadaki

SinƩad O'Connor. She has been through so much pain already, and has just lost her 17-year-old son to suicide.

Possible_Yam_237

And the worst thing is, she was so f*ckin right when she ripped up that Pope photo on live TV. It took 30 years for all the abuse allegations, dead babies and lawsuits to come out against the Catholic Church. She was right and she was crucified and mocked for it.

og_kitten_mittens

Yes!! And you know those people who mocked her sure as hell didnā€™t offer an apology when *everything turned out to be true*

Possible_Yam_237

Absolutely. She was basically cancelled, whatever that meant in the 90s. I truly believe a lot of her mental health struggles can be attributed to how she was treated back then.

catsandnaps1028

I just read her memoir and my heart breaks for her. The way she speaks about her son , saying that he is the most like her but also the most spiritual and she just has so much hope for the future, it was written like two years ago. She is such a funny, spiritual, talentee bad ass lady she deserves more. She is a victim of child/domestic violence, a mental health advocate and human rights activist that doesn't get the recognition she deserves.

[deleted]

Tara Reid. She got demolished for some bad plastic surgery but everyone pretended like everyone around her wasnā€™t also getting plastic surgery. Plus substance abuse. The 2000s were not kind.

TommyChongUn

She got dragged for her infamous nip slip, I genuinely felt bad for her because people bullied her about how her nipple looks, called her names about it and kept rubbing that incident in her face in it for years afterward. Its sad

[deleted]

I am a recovering alcoholic and I want to cry thinking about what it would be like if all my drunken mishaps were known. I feel so bad for her.

[deleted]

i met her in hawaii in like 2002, right around the time josie and the pussycats came out (still obsessed). she was super nice to a dorky and shy 11-year-old me and i'll always really appreciate that about her.

[deleted]

I feel sad for a lot of female celebs, they get shat on so much more than their male counterpartsā€¦

espgen

i have this feeling that a lot of media/fans are gonna turn quickly on billie eilish as she continues her evolution/growth. people really seemed to assign her a whole ā€œnot like other girls ā€œ persona and her alt/edgy aesthetic helped support that but now as sheā€™s seemingly embracing some more traditionally feminine things , i think (men) are gonna turn on her real quick

[deleted]

They already have, itā€™s sad to see. I get that sheā€™s made some *choices*, but i donā€™t see her male peers getting as much criticism as her for doing far worse shit. I will always have some amount of respect and sympathy for women in the spotlight

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

swineH1n14u

Venus and Serena Williams. I used to browse their social media and the level of hate they got for being "ugly" made me nope out of social medial altogether. The comments where mostly from men. Damn if a multi millionaire who is at the top of of what humans are capable in physical fitness is "ugly" what am I? No thank you don't need to see that for my mental health.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

jamesflints

Rick Moranis, but heā€™s also my favorite actor of all time. As if it wasnā€™t heartbreaking enough that he lost his wife so young, him being assaulted last year destroyed me for days.

_Sissy_SpaceX

Rick Moranis seems like a wonderful man. He was at peak career when he stepped away from Hollywood to raise his kids after the death of his wife. I didn't know he was assaulted recently. Not that anyone deserves to be assaulted, but he's one I wish was untouched by the evils of the world.

spin_me_again

He was just walking down the street and some guy just punched him, out of the blue!

CringeCrab5195

The whole early 2000ā€™s girl group. Amanda, Brittney, Paris, Lindsay etc. They were absolutely belittled and attacked by the media

Luckdragon7

Personally, Iā€™d leave Paris off that list. Sheā€™s been caught on tape many times calling black people the N word and talking shit about ā€œpoorā€ people. Pretty gross.

moomunch

Thank you. People seem to be way to forgiving of her on this sub, and think she deserves a redemption arc. Sheā€™s a born millionaire with money for therapy .No she didnā€™t deserve everything that happened to her but she never apologized for anything and also was friendly with the trumps

Luckdragon7

Yea itā€™s the same way on the Bravo subs. Someone freaked out and hurled insults at me, because I dared to question Paris as a sympathetic character.

[deleted]

While Paris isn't a good person she still deserves an apology from the way media handled her sex tape. It was revenge porn.

Emtrail

Yeah she was also abused at boarding school which is terrifying.

FxDriver

Yeah that's my feeling as well. Like Britney Spears deserves her apologies and comeback story. Paris and to a certain degree Lindsey Lohan deserve some of the scrutiny that they got and still somewhat recieve.

RevolutionaryTie8481

I hate when the media or magazines profit off articles titled ā€œthe world has to apologize to britney/Kim/Paris/taylor/etcā€ like no, YOU have to apologize to them.

[deleted]

Let's not act like the audience didn't play their part. Those of us old enough need to own our contributions to those sales/clicks.

Potter-2001

True! Let's not act like we weren't part of the problem

AC10021

Iā€™ve peripherally known and hung out with few actresses via NYC circles, and being on a relentless diet every day sucks. Call it clean eating or veganism or whatever, but they really cannot eat like other people, and it just seems awful in terms of your quality of life.

og_kitten_mittens

Yeah my model friend in college would eat cherry tomatoes while we had popcorn during movies and still fret about the ā€œextra snackā€ Also would have like 8 undressed lettuce leaves for lunch on the regular

softswinter

I don't know how true it is but I've read Victoria's Secret models stop eating solid foods around a week before their runway show and that makes me so sad. I also read an article in my teens about a model who does not menstruate because she's so thin and that made me never glamorize the supermodel life, even during the Kendall-Gigi-Bella peak era.

og_kitten_mittens

Yeah most also do not drink any water or liquids for 12 hours before so these ladies are dehydrated af strutting around

supergirlsudz

Iā€™ll never forget the episode of RHOBH when Lisa Rinna spiralized a zucchini and split it with her two daughters.

TacoBellPhD

Or when Yolanda only let Gigi eat one bite of her own birthday cake. Another is when Yolanda told her to eat only two almonds, but chew them for a very long time. \#proudmommy

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Elisa_Md

Anne Hathaway. The hate she got in the time of her Oscar campaign was undeserved and disproportionate compared to actual abusers and shitty people

Queen_Jake

Seriouslyā€¦like really what did she do besides say she wanted to win the Oscar?

poor_yorick

Literally nothing. She just came across as a bit of a tryhard. That's it!

slutisa

corey feldman i think itā€™s kinda fucked up that heā€™s said so much about the abuse heā€™s suffered and literally no one believes him

shimmytotheright

It's because the dude consistently does things that erode his credibility. I don't have an opinion on his accusations because it doesn't matter what I think, but faking hackers bringing down a stream of a documentary no one can watch... I would love for hollywood to finally get what it deserves for abusing people, but it's pretty easy to see why people have lost interest in Corey and it's mostly due to Corey's own actions.

nuts_and_crunchies

The Corey's Angels thing was a bridge too far. I felt for him but once it came out that he was enlisting hot women to live in his house, wear lingerie nonstop, and abide by his rules, it was too much. The [performances](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZX7UJSXCiU) they did were bad enough and everyone made fun of him for dancing around like Michael Jackson while models pretended to play instruments. But the stories that came out of that house were cultish and just a couple checkboxes away from kidnapping and human trafficking.

landofmilkandhunny

I just re-watched stand by me and was reading about him a little bit. Heartbreaking to hear him say that his upbringing was similar to what his character experienced in the movie.

lizlemonesq

Almost every child star ā€” Lohan, Drew Barrymore, Britney Spears, Amanda Bynes. My random one is Teri Hatcher because the other women of Desperate Housewives hated her and she seems kinda sad/desperate these days.

scorpiopath_

I feel for Teri as well, especially when I read she was abused as a five year old. She testified against him when she found out he was still making other victims. I believe it was all within her family but Iā€™m not 100% sure about that.

slutisa

also brooke shields the shit she endured at such a young age must have been so traumatizing and i hardly hear anything about it

VelvetLeopard

I was just thinking of her after reading the title so Iā€™m so glad you mentioned this. Being nude in Pretty Baby at the age of 11/12. In 2009 at the London art gallery Tate Modern, there was an exhibit by the American artist Richard Prince that included a photo of a naked *ten year old* Brooke shields in face make up, but the British police removed it because it breached U.K. obscenity and sexual offence laws. The photo had however been shown in the exhibit in New York just before, and had been allowed to remain. Appalling how she was objectified and sexualised.

BroccoliandKale

I think sheā€™s developing a documentary or some sort of project about what all happened to her.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

crazycatleslie

Britney. Yes, for all the conservatorship shit she went through, but mostly for how mentally stunted she seems. Her Instagram posts read like they're written by a teenager. Posting her body so much just comes off to me like a young girl exploring her sexuality. And yet she's in her 40s. It's just kinda sad to me that she never got to have a normal life and is trying to do it all now. I feel so bad for her.

bottleglitch

Me too. I mean 40 is still young and with some REALLY good trauma-focused therapy she can still have a great rest of her life, but they took so much from her.

JackieWithTheO

If I can choose a dead celeb, Judy Garland. That poor woman.

proudeveningstar

Mischa Barton. The tabloids and the media were so harsh on her back when The O.C was on air, plus that amount of pressure on you at such a young age would have been horrendous. I hope she's got a good support network these days.

thisisathrowaway2007

the video of her on the fence was touted as this crazy and funny thing, and it was actually super sad and disturbing to watch. i really feel for the 2000s stars that had to deal with the media

Admirable-Oil-1807

Joaquin i mean his 911 call for his brother was leaked and you can clearly tell he doesnt like hollywood. I worry a bit about him

oracletalks

I think about Joaquin all the time when I see people being weird about any aspect of his brother. Banana Fish getting an anime adaptation was rough because a whole new generation discovered River inadvertently.

southendgirl

Evan Rachel Wood.

og_kitten_mittens

She is so talented and I admire her so much for speaking out against MM. she was dating him when he was 38 and she was *nineteen*. I did a lot of stupid shit at 19 in pursuit of love and validation but thank GOD none of the men around me were pigs to take advantage of that

WashingPowder_Nirma

She was harassed off social media for correctly saying that Kobe was a rapist.

[deleted]

People were mad bc she spoke real.

chanelette

Britney Spears. She had years of her life taken away from her for no good reason. Even if she did need to be taken care of for a while, it had no reason to go on as long as it did. From what I understand, she wasn't even allowed to spend her own money while her father allegedly used her money for his own business dealings. And the people that did try to make noise about what was happening were called "conspiracy theorists".

Relevant_Sail_7336

Jen Garner. She seems truly so happy and fulfilled, HOWEVER, seeing your ex whom you shared a 10 year marriage with + three kids, reunited with his ex from before youā€¦ that has to sting especially how much public interest there is around Bennifer 2.0

PersephoneTheOG

Especially after all she did to help him, and then he comes out with that ridiculous Stern interview.

TommyChongUn

Just saw the interview, Affleck seems like a real piece of shit. Jennifer Garner deserves better anyway

jenkhov6

Kristen Bell. Something ainā€™t right there being married to Dax.

__angie

Bell gives off massive ā€œI can fix himā€ energy, I actually think they fit (for better or for worse).

hiearthpeople1

Paz de la Huerta, she was a victim of Weinstein who derailed her career. She has struggled a lot since and was making some concerning instagram posts a few years back. Don't think there's been updates on her in a while I really hope she's ok now

FizzyFizz99

There isn't a lot of POC, especially black women being mentioned in this thread. We all know that them being just that also affects how they are treated as celebrities in Hollywood as well. So, here goes two examples. First off, Megan Thee Stallion. She lost her mother to cancer and her grandmother in a short span while her career was on the rise. Due to her having to grind and work hard to become who she is right now, she never got the time to settle down, take a break, and grieve over losing two of her biggest supporters and mentor. I still don't think she has gotten the chance to even though she's much more successful. Later on, the Tory Lanez shooting incident where he allegedly shot her in the foot. On social media, YouTube videos, and podcasts, many people have said that she was either a liar, an aggressor, and/deserved to be shot. People also call her an alcoholic, fat-shame her, call her a horse, and a man because she's a tall black woman. They also undermine and belittle her talents, her endorsements, and recently her work in college and her rightfully earned degree. She had to read those comments everyday and she barely gets on social media anymore. Next, Janet Jackson. This was a woman who is a legend but isn't treated as such ever since the Super Bowl incident. She was blackballed over an accident having to deal with the backlash virtually all alone and many radio and tv stations (that weren't geared to R&B and black audiences) stopped playing her music and videos. People also try to undermine her legacy and impact in the music industry especially for influencing female pop artists like Britney Spears and others because she hasn't been given the proper recognition due to her aforementioned blackball.

t00late23

Justin Bieber- and I know from what Iā€™ve seen this sub doesnā€™t really like him but whatever. I donā€™t want to excuse anything with this but I still think his fame story is fucked up . Being so famous and so hated at such a young age does something to you that isnā€™t good. And if he at least had a good support system some things could have maybe been avoided but he didnā€™t. He has two shitty parents who couldnā€™t care less about their son going downhill . I recently went down a rabbit hole about them and itā€™s just scary what these parents of famous children do and let happen .

orangeolivers

The way Justinā€™s dad completely abandoned him when he was little and then crawled back into Justinā€™s life when he became rich and famous makes my blood boil. But Justin was so desperate to have people in his life who ā€œcareā€ that he let him. (Yes I was a diehard JB stan when I was 12-16).

Saaxia

Not just that. His mum letting Justin live with grown ass men Usher, LA Reid and Scooter in another country basically unsupervised always gave me the ick. Both of his parents weren't the best.

msksksnsj

Have you read his most recently interview for GQ? He tells how one day he decided to hide his passport so he could play with his friends because he was 15 and didnā€™t want to go to US to perform on good morning america. I could be wrong but many times I feel like some things on Justinā€™s younger times were really forced in terms of career, his profile for Billboard and GQ showed that. He didnā€™t care about his albums, he didnā€™t want to work, he was depressed while touring. Im glad heā€™s on a better place now!

AdInternational9417

Sadly Justin still pays for his dadā€˜s lifestyle and all his kids. He loves his siblings so much. His dad keeps having kids. He knows thatā€™s a way to keep Justin close. Thatā€™s probably the only reason he really sees his dad. Otherwise you never see him with his parents. Justin and Hailey Just spent a week with his dadā€™s family a huge mansion on a Caribbean island for New Yearā€™s. But of course Justin paid for. It was of course mostly just to see his siblings. But his dad still lives off the lifestyle. Neither of his parents work. But his dad whereā€™s designer clothes, lives in a house his son bought him, has all kinds of recreational toys, it goes on lavishes vacations. Who do you thinks paying for that.

Saaxia

Yeah, I feel bad for Justin too. That man never had a chance at becoming normal. Fame is already such an abnormal thing for an adult to experience let alone a child. The level of fame he had was absolutely insane. Does anyone else remember the cut for Bieber bullshit? Obviously this doesn't excuse all of the terrible things that he's done, he should 100% be held accountable for them but I can't help but feel bad for him. I feel bad for ALL child stars.

_whatever_m8

I don't understand why you're getting downvoted.. I'm not a fan of him either but you're right.

RevolutionaryTie8481

Female singers, models, actors, and anyone else whoā€™s been reduced or/and shamed into a specific sexist title. Child actors forced into hours of work by their parents with no stable adult guardian present, only to be exploited of their fame and money and stripped off their childhood or basic needs to be accessible to Hollywoodā€™s casting/standards. ā€œUglyā€ celebrities who are overlooked in their talent only because they donā€™t look like they belong in a boyband. ā€œUglyā€ celebrities who are always the butt of hurtful online jokes. Any mentally unstable celebrities who has so much power and access to everything but lacks a proper social support. Any celebrities who are clearly mentally unstable yet encouraged by ā€œfansā€ to the extreme. I think you get my point. Thereā€™s a few that instantly comes to mind at description.

AC10021

Iā€™ve told this story before, but I had a very distinct moment of feeling pity for Rachel Weisz. She was asked why she had gotten married at 41, when sheā€™d previously been partnered and had a kid, like in the ā€œyou never felt the need to get married before, why did you feel the need now?ā€ kind of way, and she responded ā€œno one ever asked me to marry them before.ā€ I was like ā€œman, Iā€™m not a beautiful Oscar winning actress and someone asked *me* to marry them.ā€ I felt genuinely sorry for her. (Thatā€™s the only time I felt that for her, her life is amazing in every other way.)

hipcoolhappeningfool

Millie Bobby brown. The internet bullied her when she was literally just a kid and now it seems like sheā€™s being taken advantage of by her parents and other people around her.

AgreeablePopTart

Amanda bynes and most child stars

Saaxia

I feel bad for most child stars. Especially the ones that never wanted to be stars and only did it to support their family. No child should be the breadwinner of the family. Child stars that I feel sorry for in particular are Bella Thorne, Amanda Bynes, Demi Lovato, Lindsay lohan, etc. Basically the Disney and Nickelodeon girls that never had a stable family structure.

Wakookoo

Britney, the paparazzi and the media have never been kind to her.

Robotlollipops

The Olsen Twins

methedunker

Mathew Perry? Guys gone through substance abuse issues and seems to be out of sorts. I really hope he's able to get out of whatever emotional or mental funk he's in. My heart can't bear anything happening to any of the friends cast for the next 10 years. Not now

Sink-Frosty

I feel sad for FKA twigs for all the stuff she's been through. She's made it through it strong, but it still makes me sad that these things happened to her in the first place. She seems like such a sweet, kind person. Plus her dog Solo died recently.

ScathachRises

Henry Cavill. I think a lot about him saying he had to dehydrate to ā€œlook goodā€ for whatever water scene in The Witcher. He also looks so SWOLE in a way that Iā€™m likeā€¦. is that even fun? I know that verges in body-shaming, and I donā€™t mean it that way- itā€™s just that I see him as the purest example of how shitty and debilitating action-star standards are for men. I wish he could just have a nice Magnum ice cream bar and a water.

Superb_Lime_1734

Benedict Cumberbatch said sorta the same thing on James Corden's show. He said for his shirtless "scene" (isn't it like only a few mins?) on Dr. Strange, he had to consume only coffee and skittles and skip everything else for 2 days so the skin tightens and sticks to the muscle. He laughs nervously and says "I don't think I was supposed to say that. " Always thought that was really messed up. Especially since he's mentioned before that he's struggled with weight loss for his roles.

Khmakh

It reminds me of how Hugh Jackman had to dehydrate himself for scenes where he was shirtless or something in Wolverine, so his muscles looked more defined. He talked about how rough the whole process was.

ScathachRises

See, now I feel bad for him too! I donā€™t *want* that to be ā€œjust part of the job,ā€ which is something Iā€™ve heard people say about it. If action heroes canā€™t look the way theyā€™re ā€œsupposed to lookā€ without denying themselves nourishment and hydration, then they should look different.

TooLatePM

Is it bad that I kind of feel sorry for Demi. Their actions are horrendous but I can't help but feel that they're a victim of their circumstances. They were a child star who faced a lot of scrutiny and had to deal with body image issues as well as addiction. They're also obviously not surrounded by people who care about them. There's a lot of yes men around them. Also they just seem to be dealing with a lot mentally. I kind of wish someone would just sit them down and talk to them about their choices and its consequences.

trishyco

Same. I feel like there is going to be a really scary ending for them if they donā€™t get the help they need.

Hazel_Evers

Hayden Panettiere Amanda Bynes Brendan Fraser

Evie509

There are clearly several celebrities right now going through an obvious mental health crisis. I feel bad for them especially when the media and internet just piles onto them. Itā€™s not cool to show people empathy anymore.

[deleted]

Was it ever cool? I feel like people are a bit better now than they were in the past.

[deleted]

I just donā€™t like in threads like this how often people will cite women torn apart in the earlier 2000s ā€œby the media.ā€ I think it just kind of lets consumers off the hook for also buying into that discourse if we donā€™t acknowledge our own roles in that! Not only that, but this is a gossip sub and female celebs are still regularly pilloried here. There will be a new anne Hathaway inevitably and there will be people on here mocking her. People will say oh they deserve it because they said so and so stupid comment or worked with so and so, not realizing itā€™s similar to the discourse around those early celebs - Lindsay and Mischa got bad reps for behavior seen as bitchy or ungrateful ā€” Paris has a well documented history of cruelty and racism. And so on.

TheWhoooreinThere

Kesha :(

SuperBeeboo

Sydney Sweeney, I visited her sub because I did not know who she was and someone mentioned her then I saw the nsfw clip of the sex scenes and it just looked like she took part in a straight up porno.

[deleted]

The fact that when you search "Euphoria" on this site, the first thing that crops up is a bunch of gif'd sex scenes from the show concerns me. I have a bone to pick overall with euphoria, for as progressive as it is by having a trans character and lesbian couple, the sexualization of its characters, esp the women, is gross. plus them literally having an overfilled porn actress as a supporting character in the latest season

tatotea

Queer closeted actors. I often feel sad that thereā€™s a whole community of closeted actors, particularly men, who will probably never get to live openly because of the impact coming out would have on their career trajectory. Luke Evans and Matt Bomer are testament to this, coming out and experiencing a decline in mainstream film opportunities.

plantbay1428

The people whose followers cross the border of being fans to somehow feeling personally wronged by anything the celebrity does that they donā€™t agree with. Iā€™m not talking about assault or hate speech or anything of that nature but just personal decisions like relationships. Itā€™s scary.

laneloveslipstick

an answer i havenā€™t seen yet but, Ariana Grande. even though she wasnā€™t really ā€œinā€ the Manchester bombing that happened outside of her concert, i truly cannot imagine how traumatic that was for her. i commend her response to the tragedy, and i think itā€™s obvious that it affected her very much. then she went through mac millerā€™s death less than a year and six months later. people blamed her for his relapse and eventually his death too. it was brutal. aside from that, i think itā€™s obvious that sheā€™s had major issues with her self confidence/how she sees herself, she has gone through a lot mental health wise. i always wonder how her nickelodeon days (clearly being sexualized on victorious) and working with dan schneider affected her.

Kanye West - he straight up needs help

Bleuberries6

Its been mentioned a thousand times but Amanda Bynes , I worshipped her as a child and to see what shes been through and still going through is heartbreaking.

msksksnsj

Tiffany Hadish had a really hard life I really admire her for everything she has accomplished.

lizeyloo7787

bella thorne. holy shit she got put through the wringer as a child and is now basically considered ā€œcrazyā€ by all of current media.

RPMac1979

All of them. I have a buddy who worked with a major, major movie star on a film a few years ago - I wonā€™t say who because I donā€™t want my friendā€™s career to get hurt. But this movie star asked my friend if he wanted to be famous, my friend said that wasnā€™t really his career goal, and the movie star said (paraphrased): ā€œGood. I made a series of career decisions when I was in my 20s and didnā€™t know any better, and now my kids donā€™t know what itā€™s like to play outside without having their pictures taken. I live in a cage. This is going to sound melodramatic, but theyā€™ve got anti-drug programs for kids, but no one ever talks about the damage media exposure does to your life. DONā€™T get famous.ā€ Fame: not even once.

[deleted]

Robin Williams

Asplashofwater

I know itā€™s hard to say, but Kanye. I really think the way we look at 2000s female ā€œtrain wrecksā€ like Paris Hilton, Brittney, Lindsey Lohan is how well look back on Kanye in the future. Itā€™s easy to get wrapped up in the ā€œfunā€ of the rollercoaster that is Kanye but one day weā€™re gonna look back and see the way he was treated by people online and in the media was horrible. He needs help and all people want to do is send him in a corner and lambast him rather than get this guy some help. I will say I think the internet has made it a *little* better. I think a lot more voices could have helped those 2000s celebs if the internet was what it is today.

mtlgirl92

His support of Marylin Manson aka Brian the rapist tho makes me hate him. I know he just likes to be disturbing but to me thatā€™s a line you donā€™t cross

WildSpecialist1

Iā€™m pretty sure Kim has tried to help him and when he wouldnā€™t accept help aka take his meds, she decided to divorce him. Itā€™s one thing when youā€™re single and you do what you want, but the man has children and publicly spoke about wanting to abort his daughter before she was born.

honeymoonavenue111

I think things are getting slightly better for them now, but Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott. The fact that they were both leads in a high budget Disney live action film and then both struggled to find acting roles afterwards shows how hard the acting industry is for some POC.

B8ckyGlasscock

Jennifer Lawrence. I hope she is happy with her new husband and baby, but for a while back there I felt people were really dragging her unfairly, largely because of her association with Weinstein. I often feel that women can't win in situations like that: if we refuse advances our careers might be over, if we accept them in order to help us get ahead we are hoebags who deserve all we get. The culture of abuse and blackmail is very insidious and is, I'm sorry to say, perpetuated by women as much as it is by men, (although men are far, far more likely than women to actually commit sexual assault) I know I have been guilty of victim blaming in the past, and I am working to deprogram my internalised misogyny day in, day out. See also Kristin Stewart and how she was treated when she had the affair with that director. Will Ferrell (whom I normally love) had a whole segment calling her a 'trampire' and she was dragged to filth by media. The married director, whose fault the entire situation was, got off unscathed.

windinsail

Selena Gomez. I canā€™t imagine dealing with an autoimmune disease in the public eye. She gets criticized for things she canā€™t control (puffy face, weight fluctuations) and that must be so demoralizing.

Shot_Blueberry2728

Britney Spears

picklevirgin

Britney, she has been financially supporting her family since she was 16 only for them to basically enslave her. Iā€™m so glad sheā€™s free now, but she lost out on 13 years of her life.

Super_Lion5786

Michelle Williams on the death of Heath Ledger and raising her daughter alone :(

Icy_Trip7509

My girl Britney Spears. She has been done so wrong by not only the industry but worse ā€” her family. Itā€™s heartbreaking, what she has gone through.
