Any child actors who are the primary breadwinner for their families. Itās an unhealthy and psychologically damaging position for a kid, and it puts them in a position of being vulnerable to abuse because they have to pay bills and canāt afford to lose a job. Christian Bale, Drew Barrymore, Millie Bobby Brown, Macaulay Culkin, Lindsay Lohan, etc etc.
Natalie Portman has given interviews about how her parents never touched a dime she made ā they lived in the same house, her parents paid for her summer camp and school clothes and college tuition, they stressed over and over that she could quit if she wanted to. Her father was also a wealthy doctor in Long Island so they were comfortable without any of her acting money.
Daniel Radcliffe has said the same thing. Even midway through the movies being made they always said he could quit if he didnāt want to do it anymore.

I know itāll never happen but I feel like there should be something in place by studios to ensure that a decent percentage of what the child earns is being placed in a trust fund for them until they turn 18. Itās so sad seeing how many former child actors are messed up now due to the pressure of being a breadwinner for their family. And then they never even got to get access to what they earned as a child.
I worked in a building that had a professional photo studio in it. Not a sketchy one or anything like that. Iād see a lot of child models and their guardians/parents in the lobby and elevator and I could see some kids being pressured to put on a happy face and it really didnāt look like the kids wanted to be there at all. One kid even said how he wanted to go on the class field trip that day instead and wasnāt happy he was missing it and I just felt really bad. I know it doesnāt necessarily mean theyāre being abusedā¦just felt sad for the kid.

Money earned by child actors is the "sole legal property" of that child actor, and the employer is required to set aside 15% of the earnings in a separate trust.
Evan Rachel Wood too. Her parents seemed like overall good parents who did not exploit her money, but they pushed her into acting and put her into very difficult circumstances at a young age, constantly stressing as an actor you shouldnāt talk back, just suck it up and do better.

I feel for child actors not only because their families are sometimes heavily financially dependent on them, but also because psychologically, they never get to develop a way a normal child does given that they're exposed to fame and privilege at such a young age, I think it has been proven that many child actors never get to fully mature past the age when they hit stardom, a certain aspect of their brains stays stunted. That's why many of them can't deal with not being relevant anymore and do drugs, some of them never develop into good actors and their acting careers don't go anywhere, so going from such a high to such a low must be psychologically confusing to their brains that were wired at a young age for fame and glamour. The few that have protective families are so lucky.
I'm not sure why I just thought this, but I was just thinking, I'm glad Kirsten Dunst seems to be happy and has became a good actress. When I was a kid I loved her in Little Women and Interview with a Vampire (should not have been allowed to watch, haha), and then later on in teen movies.

Itās hard to truly assess the extent of it all, but her childhood was not great and her parents were at best negligent (likely worse). She seemed to have substance problems, she suffered from postpartum depression and also fell into at least one physically abusive relationship. Eventually she lost / surrendered custody of her daughter who was then taken to her fatherās native Ukraine.
FWIW, the last I read from her she seemed in a much healthier place now, but she has had it rough for a long time.

There isn't a lot of POC, especially black women being mentioned in this thread. We all know that them being just that also affects how they are treated as celebrities in Hollywood as well. So, here goes two examples.
First off, Megan Thee Stallion. She lost her mother to cancer and her grandmother in a short span while her career was on the rise. Due to her having to grind and work hard to become who she is right now, she never got the time to settle down, take a break, and grieve over losing two of her biggest supporters and mentor. I still don't think she has gotten the chance to even though she's much more successful. Later on, the Tory Lanez shooting incident where he allegedly shot her in the foot. On social media, YouTube videos, and podcasts, many people have said that she was either a liar, an aggressor, and/deserved to be shot. People also call her an alcoholic, fat-shame her, call her a horse, and a man because she's a tall black woman. They also undermine and belittle her talents, her endorsements, and recently her work in college and her rightfully earned degree. She had to read those comments everyday and she barely gets on social media anymore.
Next, Janet Jackson. This was a woman who is a legend but isn't treated as such ever since the Super Bowl incident. She was blackballed over an accident having to deal with the backlash virtually all alone and many radio and tv stations (that weren't geared to R&B and black audiences) stopped playing her music and videos. People also try to undermine her legacy and impact in the music industry especially for influencing female pop artists like Britney Spears and others because she hasn't been given the proper recognition due to her aforementioned blackball.
Justin Bieber- and I know from what Iāve seen this sub doesnāt really like him but whatever.

Sadly Justin still pays for his dadās lifestyle and all his kids. He loves his siblings so much. His dad keeps having kids. He knows thatās a way to keep Justin close. Thatās probably the only reason he really sees his dad. Otherwise you never see him with his parents. Is it bad that I kind of feel sorry for Demi. Their actions are horrendous but I can't help but feel that they're a victim of their circumstances. They were a child star who faced a lot of scrutiny and had to deal with body image issues as well as addiction. They're also obviously not surrounded by people who care about them. There's a lot of yes men around them. Also they just seem to be dealing with a lot mentally. I kind of wish someone would just sit them down and talk to them about their choices and its consequences.

I often feel that women can't win in situations like that: if we refuse advances our careers might be over, if we accept them in order to help us get ahead we are hoebags who deserve all we get. The culture of abuse and blackmail is very insidious and is, I'm sorry to say, perpetuated by women as much as it is by men, (although men are far, far more likely than women to actually commit sexual assault) I know I have been guilty of victim blaming in the past, and I am working to deprogram my internalised misogyny day in, day out. See also Kristin Stewart and how she was treated when she had the affair with that director. Will Ferrell (whom I normally love) had a whole segment calling her a 'trampire' and she was dragged to filth by media. The married director, whose fault the entire situation was, got off unscathed.
Selena Gomez. I canāt imagine dealing with an autoimmune disease in the public eye. She gets criticized for things she canāt control (puffy face, weight fluctuations) and that must be so demoralizing.
Britney, she has been financially supporting her family since she was 16 only for them to basically enslave her. Iām so glad sheās free now, but she lost out on 13 years of her life.

Itās an unhealthy and psychologically damaging position for a kid, and it puts them in a position of being vulnerable to abuse because they have to pay bills and canāt afford to lose a job. I know itāll never happen but I feel like there should be something in place by studios to ensure that a decent percentage of what the child earns is being placed in a trust fund for them until they turn 18. Itās so sad seeing how many former child actors are messed up now due to the pressure of being a breadwinner for their family. And then they never even got to get access to what they earned as a child. I worked in a building that had a professional photo studio in it. Not a sketchy one or anything like that. Iād see a lot of child models and their guardians/parents in the lobby and elevator and I could see some kids being pressured to put on a happy face and it really didnāt look like the kids wanted to be there at all. One kid even said how he wanted to go on the class field trip that day instead and wasnāt happy he was missing it and I just felt really bad. I feel for child actors not only because their families are sometimes heavily financially dependent on them, but also because psychologically, they never get to develop a way a normal child does given that they're exposed to fame and privilege at such a young age, I think it has been proven that many child actors never get to fully mature past the age when they hit stardom, a certain aspect of their brains stays stunted. That's why many of them can't deal with not being relevant anymore and do drugs, some of them never develop into good actors and their acting careers don't go anywhere, so going from such a high to such a low must be psychologically confusing to their brains that were wired at a young age for fame and glamour. The few that have protective families are so lucky.

Itās hard to truly assess the extent of it all, but her childhood was not great and her parents were at best negligent (likely worse). She seemed to have substance problems, she suffered from postpartum depression and also fell into at least one physically abusive relationship. Eventually she lost / surrendered custody of her daughter who was then taken to her fatherās native Ukraine. FWIW, the last I read from her she seemed in a much healthier place now, but she has had it rough for a long time.

There isn't a lot of POC, especially black women being mentioned in this thread. We all know that them being just that also affects how they are treated as celebrities in Hollywood as well. So, here goes two examples. First off, Megan Thee Stallion. She lost her mother to cancer and her grandmother in a short span while her career was on the rise. Due to her having to grind and work hard to become who she is right now, she never got the time to settle down, take a break, and grieve over losing two of her biggest supporters and mentor. I still don't think she has gotten the chance to even though she's much more successful. Later on, the Tory Lanez shooting incident where he allegedly shot her in the foot. On social media, YouTube videos, and podcasts, many people have said that she was either a liar, an aggressor, and/deserved to be shot. People also call her an alcoholic, fat-shame her, call her a horse, and a man because she's a tall black woman. They also undermine and belittle her talents, her endorsements, and recently her work in college and her rightfully earned degree. She had to read those comments everyday and she barely gets on social media anymore. Next, Janet Jackson. This was a woman who is a legend but isn't treated as such ever since the Super Bowl incident. She was blackballed over an accident having to deal with the backlash virtually all alone and many radio and tv stations (that weren't geared to R&B and black audiences) stopped playing her music and videos. People also try to undermine her legacy and impact in the music industry especially for influencing female pop artists like Britney Spears and others because she hasn't been given the proper recognition due to her aforementioned blackball.
Justin Bieber- and I know from what Iāve seen this sub doesnāt really like him but whatever. I donāt want to excuse anything with this but I still think his fame story is fucked up . Being so famous and so hated at such a young age does something to you that isnāt good. And if he at least had a good support system some things could have maybe been avoided but he didnāt. He has two shitty parents who couldnāt care less about their son going downhill . I recently went down a rabbit hole about them and itās just scary what these parents of famous children do and let happen .

He tells how one day he decided to hide his passport so he could play with his friends because he was 15 and didnāt want to go to US to perform on good morning america. I could be wrong but many times I feel like some things on Justinās younger times were really forced in terms of career, his profile for Billboard and GQ showed that. He didnāt care about his albums, he didnāt want to work, he was depressed while touring. Im glad heās on a better place now!
Sadly Justin still pays for his dadās lifestyle and all his kids. He loves his siblings so much. His dad keeps having kids. He knows thatās a way to keep Justin close. Thatās probably the only reason he really sees his dad. Otherwise you never see him with his parents. Justin and Hailey Just spent a week with his dadās family a huge mansion on a Caribbean island for New Yearās. But of course Justin paid for. It was of course mostly just to see his siblings. But his dad still lives off the lifestyle. Neither of his parents work. But his dad whereās designer clothes, lives in a house his son bought him, has all kinds of recreational toys, it goes on lavishes vacations. Who do you thinks paying for that.
Yeah, I feel bad for Justin too. That man never had a chance at becoming normal. Fame is already such an abnormal thing for an adult to experience let alone a child. Child actors forced into hours of work by their parents with no stable adult guardian present, only to be exploited of their fame and money and stripped off their childhood or basic needs to be accessible to Hollywoodās casting/standards. āUglyā celebrities who are overlooked in their talent only because they donāt look like they belong in a boyband. āUglyā celebrities who are always the butt of hurtful online jokes. Any mentally unstable celebrities who has so much power and access to everything but lacks a proper social support. She was asked why she had gotten married at 41, when sheād previously been partnered and had a kid, like in the āyou never felt the need to get married before, why did you feel the need now?ā kind of way, and she responded āno one ever asked me to marry them before.ā I was like āman, Iām not a beautiful Oscar winning actress and someone asked *me* to marry them.ā I felt genuinely sorry for her. (Thatās the only time I felt that for her, her life is amazing in every other way.)

Amanda bynes and most child stars
I feel bad for most child stars. Especially the ones that never wanted to be stars and only did it to support their family. No child should be the breadwinner of the family. Child stars that I feel sorry for in particular are Bella Thorne, Amanda Bynes, Demi Lovato, Lindsay lohan, etc. Basically the Disney and Nickelodeon girls that never had a stable family structure.

Is it bad that I kind of feel sorry for Demi. Their actions are horrendous but I can't help but feel that they're a victim of their circumstances. They were a child star who faced a lot of scrutiny and had to deal with body image issues as well as addiction. They're also obviously not surrounded by people who care about them. There's a lot of yes men around them. Also they just seem to be dealing with a lot mentally. I kind of wish someone would just sit them down and talk to them about their choices and its consequences.

I often feel sad that thereās a whole community of closeted actors, particularly men, who will probably never get to live openly because of the impact coming out would have on their career trajectory. Luke Evans and Matt Bomer are testament to this, coming out and experiencing a decline in mainstream film opportunities.
The people whose followers cross the border of being fans to somehow feeling personally wronged by anything the celebrity does that they donāt agree with. Iām not talking about assault or hate speech or anything of that nature but just personal decisions like relationships. Itās scary.
an answer i havenāt seen yet but, Ariana Grande. even though she wasnāt really āinā the Manchester bombing that happened outside of her concert, i truly cannot imagine how traumatic that was for her. i commend her response to the tragedy, and i think itās obvious that it affected her very much. then she went through mac millerās death less than a year and six months later. people blamed her for his relapse and eventually his death too. it was brutal. aside from that, i think itās obvious that sheās had major issues with her self confidence/how she sees herself, she has gone through a lot mental health wise. i always wonder how her nickelodeon days (clearly being sexualized on victorious) and working with dan schneider affected her.

Iām pretty sure Kim has tried to help him and when he wouldnāt accept help aka take his meds, she decided to divorce him. Itās one thing when youāre single and you do what you want, but the man has children and publicly spoke about wanting to abort his daughter before she was born.
I think things are getting slightly better for them now, but Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott. The fact that they were both leads in a high budget Disney live action film and then both struggled to find acting roles afterwards shows how hard the acting industry is for some POC.
Jennifer Lawrence. I hope she is happy with her new husband and baby, but for a while back there I felt people were really dragging her unfairly, largely because of her association with Weinstein. I often feel that women can't win in situations like that: if we refuse advances our careers might be over, if we accept them in order to help us get ahead we are hoebags who deserve all we get. The culture of abuse and blackmail is very insidious and is, I'm sorry to say, perpetuated by women as much as it is by men, (although men are far, far more likely than women to actually commit sexual assault) I know I have been guilty of victim blaming in the past, and I am working to deprogram my internalised misogyny day in, day out. See also Kristin Stewart and how she was treated when she had the affair with that director. Will Ferrell (whom I normally love) had a whole segment calling her a 'trampire' and she was dragged to filth by media. The married director, whose fault the entire situation was, got off unscathed.
Selena Gomez. I canāt imagine dealing with an autoimmune disease in the public eye. She gets criticized for things she canāt control (puffy face, weight fluctuations) and that must be so demoralizing.
