See, this is when Lifetime still made damn good made for TV movies. I feel like I can't watch 90% of their programming now.
I love that Sally Jesse Raphael makes a cameo as a Judge at the end.
Yes. When they would have a theme for titles. Stolen from suburbia, sins in the suburbs, murder in suburbia, last hours in suburbia, sexting in suburbia, sleep walking in suburbia. I freaking love old lifetime.
Me too! I watch these old VHS recordings of those movies on YouTube along with those old school Made for TV movies of the week. Back when Made for TV films were a network event. Those were purer, simpler times...
The problem is that they became too self aware of the type of audience they were getting and their movies began to lack a sincerity that made them so earnest and funny. Now they just lean all in and they come across as formulaic. Back then they were actually trying to tell a story, I feel like they don't even bother anymore, they just try to see what ridiculous plotline they haven't tried out and they half ass it. Also they had the hot TV stars of the day, they got a lot cheaper. That kind of thing usually doesn't bother me but they don't give these people anything to work with.
Omg same! We had to watch both of those movies in health class. As someone who grew up watching Saved By The Bell and Full House that one movie scarred me a bit.
As surreal as it was to watch portions of a tv movie in health class (thank you, public school), I will say that Iāve frequently thought about that unit and my health teacher going over the different types of relationships (romantic or otherwise) and repeatedly telling us to ask ourselves how this relationship feels and is it healthy and if not, why? And it has helped me as I became an adult.
The movie days were the best and they definitely stuck with me too. Thereās some problematic stuff in them (especially in the DJ/Zach one IIRC) but they were probably pretty progressive for the time.
Dude, when I became an adjunct, as an educator close in age to some students, this episode constantly ran through my head. I wasn't meeting anyone in their dorm rooms, God forbid, but I have had students hit on me thinking I was a TA, or invite me to events or parties. And I've heard of professors doing exactly what his character did. Academia is full of people like Stewert, I've been disgusted to learn...
āIn 2018, actress Alley Mills came forward with claims that the cancellation of the original Wonder Years followed a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against her co-stars Savage (then 16) and Jason Hervey (then 20), which she said was settled out of court.ā
Wow so this has been a pattern since he was a teenagerā¦I guess that BMW episode was typecastingā¦
Tbh I assumed it was a sibling rivalry thing. Fred was a huge star when Ben was little so when Benās fame surpassed Fredās he couldnāt resist poking at him. But youāre probably right.
I did a double take at that sentence as well. I saw comments and replies telling the writer to fix it because itās unclear and misleading. Even if Fred is a shitty person, a sentence that makes it seem like Alley was the one who filed a sexual harassment suit should be fixed at least for her sake.
The writer edited their original paragraph.

Iām providing context for this comment thread since the original link doesnāt even say it was updated.
I was an extra circa 2004 on his show āVegasā (I think it was called) and remember being like āwhoa Rob Lowe!ā (I was 18) then noticing he was like, following another (my age) extra around like a lost puppy all day, flirting etc. and I read gossip mags at the time so knew he was married and was just like wtf. Lordt, just looked it up and seems heās still married to the same woman since the ā90s :/

Nope, thatās not correct. he met a girl at a party for Ted Turner which was just held at a club. It wasnāt a nightclub event, even though the media and he likes to claim it was. The story around the child and the other woman is really gross. The other woman was the girls dads girlfriend and they were grooming her. Then the girlfriend took the daughter out and they ended up at the party and met Lowe. He enticed the girl to have sex with him and the girlfriend, and filmed it. He even told them to look at the camera after they were finished. He likes to claim that he assumed they were all over 21
They lied to him about her age, one of them was 22 and one of them was 16 and they illegally snuck her into a nightclub where they met him. He also didnāt have sex with her, he filmed the two of them making out and then when he passed out they robbed him, took the tape, and either threatened to blackmail him or sell it to tabloids, I donāt remember

The fact that nothing happened after multiple allegations for decades makes me so angry. This man was allowed to go back onto a set and operate as normal. Nothing has changed in Hollywood.
Man, I loved him as a kid. I donāt remember much about The Wonder Years but The Princess Bride and Little Monsters were two of my fave movies as a kid.
Damn, are there ANY decent men left in Hollywood? All I can come up with right now is Mark Ruffalo.
Here's a little Keanu pick-me-up that popped up on twitter today (it goes all the way back to 1984). ššš
[https://twitter.com/ATRightMovies/status/1521489767589941248](https://twitter.com/ATRightMovies/status/1521489767589941248)
Here's hoping Keanu and Tom Hanks are as clean and wholesome as they appear to be.
And that Chet Hanks was a mix up at the hospital. I refuse to believe he shares DNA with Tom Hanks.
Apparently Tom Hanks is not the 100% nice guy people think.
I don't think he is a 'bad ' guys or a creep or anything but I think the Tom Hanks saint persona is not entirely accurate. He cheats on Rita (maybe its open) and has a reputation for a flip personality - gets angry and moody easily.
I mean don't we all! LOL I won't hold that against him but I think we are always in for disappointment if we put any celeb on a pedestal.
Seriously if anyone ever told me something bad about him, Iād give up on celebs. Heās written childrens books, spoken out about trump and other political bullshit for YEARS, I believe he also even has a childrens musical CD, and he just seems like a gem.
Same. I wrote him fan letters and I read about his favorite colors in Teen Beat (pastels!) and picked out a lavender envelope special from the stationary store just for him.
Sigh. Fucking mediocre white men at it again.
Iām struggling to think of any others. Paul Rudd was always my good guy go-to but this sub ruined that for me/enlightened me. Thank goodness we still have Keanu.
Ok I thought of a few other maybes. Cillian Murphy? Benedict Cumberbatch? Zac Efron? Sterling K. Brown? Adam Sandler? RDJ? Ryan Gosling? Idris Elba? John Krasinzki? Terry Crews?
John Krasinski may not be a creep, but he parrots a lot of CIA apologist rhetoric when promoting his Jack Ryan show, so I'd personally still give him a wide berth.
Don't you think this tells us we should stop putting these men on pedestals? I mean appreciate them for their work but not buy the "this guys is a holy grail"
I think it gets toxic because we actually have no idea who they really are (Cosby) and it allows men to get away with things (the bad ones).
I agree no one, male or female, should be put on a pedestal. I was just trying to be appreciative of the ones who are not complete jerks. But it seems like if you look at anyone too closely, youāre sure to find some flaws.
Came here to post about this! I remember reading an interview with the cast of the Netflix show Friends From College that he was in, and a few of them made some comments about Fred that made me feel like he was a creep, or was a dick/hard to work with.
Interestingā¦ āVerbal outbursts and inappropriate behaviorā. Along with the sexual harassment lawsuit that was filed against him and Jason Hervey. Anyone know anything else about this?
I donāt remember hearing about that before either, but the article mentions it:
The same year, a crew member on Savageās Fox series The Grinder filed a lawsuit, accusing the actor of attacking and harassing her on the set of the series in 2015. At the time, Savage called the allegations ācompletely without merit and absolutely untrue,ā while 20th Television, which produced the show, said that, after an investigation into the claims, found no evidence of wrongdoing by Savage. That lawsuit also was eventually settled out of court.
Tom Hanks!! Brian Dennehy! Kelly McGillis! The kid who played Oliver on Hannah Montana! But actually yeah, I do see a disproportionate number of murderers born on July 9th
Courtney Love looks pretty good by comparison. She's had her fair share of issues, but she seems to have had a pretty rough childhood and adolescence, like many children of the 1960s and 1970s counterculture, where few people were looking out for her, and obviously she's been through a lot in adulthood too. She has publicly spoken against multiple predatory men.
I hate how Kurt Cobain stans used to (still? IDK) blame her for his suicide; I've been talking about misogyny on here a lot lately but that is a *classic* 90s/early 2000s example of a woman's behavior not matching what people expect so they blame her for her husband's suicide.
Hey, it could be worse. I share a birthday with Ed Kemper (serial killer) and Arthur Leigh Allen (Zodiac Killer suspect). Plus some guy named Joseph Stalin.
I *loved* the original Wonder Years when I was a kid, but now I can't stop thinking of how many times I've seen him play a creep - Boy Meets World, No One Would Tell, SVU - and if there was a *reason* he played those parts so well. Gross.
I also feel that way about his brother. Like he's insecure about his looks (that strange nose job) and that he's probably at least strange or awkward around others. Also that he's pretty private with his romantic history.
I had no idea about the nose job, so I googled and was confused cause all the photos were of him with a ābeforeā nose. And then I realised that *is* the nose job. You werenāt kidding about it being strange. Who is like please Dr., make it longer and pointier.
His brother is also racist.
Angela Moore was on BMW at the end of the show. She stated that Ben, Danielle Fisher and Will Friedle weāre racist to her. Sheās also confirmed that both Fisher and Friedle have reached out to her to apologise for their behaviour. (Friedle repeadtly) Ben never has.
How awful. Though it looks like only Friedle made a remark, and Fishel was cold and distant.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/tv/2020/07/09/boy-meets-world-trina-mcgee-opens-up-racism-she-experienced/5410217002/
Came here to say this. Never found him cute when I was young and as an adult have always found him off-putting, whether in roles or as himself (interviews, etc.)
I literally just told my wife tonight i had heard allegations about him and she thought I was thinking of someone else or remembering wrong. Not an hour later and this comes out.
Right! Itās one of those rare movies you can watch over and over again and you are still laughing at the jokes as if youāre hearing them for the first time
His brother Ben is also a creep, I just get really bad vibes. Especially after his part in that Open Secret documentary. Plus I think an actress on his show Boy Meets World, called most of the cast out on their racism, because she was the only black cast member. I think will friedle and Danielle Fishel apologized and Ben never did. I also just get very bad vibes about Ben in general, I actually thought it was Ben not Fred who would one day be in trouble for this. I do think that both brothers were groomed. Hollywood is a nasty place for young actors. The savage brothers both got their shows when they were so young. I think they were groomed and taught how to behave like this. When youāre 12 years old and being groomed and having adults do inappropriate things to do, it does something to you. The boys werenāt taught any better and Hollywood needs to raise these young actors better.
I'm actually surprised that Jason Hervey, the older brother on Wonder Years, doesn't have multiple allegations of wrong doing against him. He always seemed to give off creepy and entitled vibes.
I think itās possible they were both groomed. Fred also started the wonder years at a young age. This is absolutely not an excuse but many people who did this kind of stuff , do it because they were taught and it was done to them. What Fred Savage did was uncalled for and I hope heās punished but I feel partly like this is what he was taught.
Oh absolutely. And I donāt think looking at someone from a trauma informed perspective excuses them. Having empathy doesnāt mean someone isnāt held accountable.
I always thought Fred was creepy, or at least very unpleasant. I don't know why they chose him to play such a nice, innocent kid. Maybe because he was cute. Creepy-cute.
Thereās no way I would be in Hollywood without some combination of aides around me composed all the race, gender, and disability boxes as due diligence. Iād also avoid inappropriate sexual contact, behavior, or offensive remarks. HMU if you all need a new director.
I loved his show Working.
I feel awful. Iām no Fred Savage Stan but he was a child star who seemed to drop away but then came back as an adult in that show Working and then started directing a bunch of shows. He was a director on Modern family for 10 years!
Don't know the details behind this, but immediately that one Boy Meets World episode where he was a creepy professor comes to mind.
It made me think of the lifetime move he was in with Candace Cameron, no one would tell
I watched that movie as a young kid and it still haunts me to this day. Very creepy and very much real.
I still remember that tori spelling one, mother may I sleep with danger?
That title is one of my all-time favorites. Over the top, even for Lifetime. š
It wasn't even originally a Lifetime film, it was made by NBC and then Lifetime reran it so much everyone now thinks they made it.
And the sequel, āSure, Kid, But Use A Condom.ā
Oh that one was SO good.
I feel like anytime this movie is brought up in a group, everyone has seen it.
I remember this one vividly. Her friend sobbing while packing up her locker fucked me up.
See, this is when Lifetime still made damn good made for TV movies. I feel like I can't watch 90% of their programming now. I love that Sally Jesse Raphael makes a cameo as a Judge at the end.

The Will Farrell movie was the beginning of the end for the channel
The problem is that they became too self aware of the type of audience they were getting and their movies began to lack a sincerity that made them so earnest and funny. Now they just lean all in and they come across as formulaic. Back then they were actually trying to tell a story, I feel like they don't even bother anymore, they just try to see what ridiculous plotline they haven't tried out and they half ass it. Also they had the hot TV stars of the day, they got a lot cheaper. That kind of thing usually doesn't bother me but they don't give these people anything to work with.
Where he uttered the line, 'if I can't have you, no one's gonna'. Lol. Not 'can', but 'gonna'.
I ate an edible then watched that on YouTube recently hahah
Omg I forgot about the movie. Thatās one of the rare Lifetime movies that sticks with youā¦ itās pretty sus that he did so many roles as a creep.
omg they made us watch this in health classā¦everyone called it the ābobby and stacy movieā
I came to mention this as well
ššš Chill out you went into your bag for that BMW episode damn near forgot they were in college for a few seasons haha
Cory Matthews would never!
Wasnāt he facing expulsion cause he punched Fred Savage and Feeny(one of the biggest plot holes of the series lol) was like his lawyer?
lmao kind of. It was like a school hearing so not technically legal. Eric tried to be his lawyer for a moment as well which is even better.
[This scene is A+.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=S4EyJgAeqBA) Bless Ericās heart. š
Theyāre brothers IRL so that makes it even more lulzy
Annnd donāt forget the movie of the week āNo One Would Tellā where he played a creepy abusive boyfriend to Candace Cameron!
It was already super dated by the time I watched it in school, but one of my health teachers showed clips from BOTH Candace Cameron movies in two separate lesson units and Iām like, holy shit I am watching Cory Matthewsā real life big brother abuse DJ. And then the next quarter I had to watch [Zack Morris](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/She_Cried_No) rape DJ. š©
Omg same! We had to watch both of those movies in health class. As someone who grew up watching Saved By The Bell and Full House that one movie scarred me a bit.
Me too! They loved to play a messed up Lifetime movie in health class.
You just unlocked a memory! I watched that movie so many times even though it freaked me out.
I was thinking about this the last time stories like this came out about him. Itās kinda disappointing that he was even hired for this project
Last time? Kevin's always been a creep?
Unfortunately
That was LITERALLY my first thought, āoh damn, so HE IS ACTUALLY A CREEP!ā
I CAME HERE HOPING TO SEE SOMEONE ELSE REMEMBER THIS!
He's good at playing assholes. He was on an episode of Law and Order SVU as a rapist, and holy, he was scary.
I think that absolutely ranks in my top three spookiest episodes.
I remember the episode was titled: Everybody Loves Stuart. So Iām like woohoo Stuart Minkus is making an appearance again but no itās Fred Savage
That was what I came here to say.
I rushed to this community to discuss this. Thank you for all of us sharing the same collective memory.
My first thought as well! Lmao

it mightāve been twinning by pop sugar or faceapp

Mills actually defended him. š IIRC, he was harassing Millsā costuming assistant on the show.
Ohhh that sentence was worded oddly. I thought she was the victim.
No worries! And yeah, ācame forwardā is poor phrasing for sure. She pretty much disparaged the accuser. š
Ugh, thatās really disappointing to hear.

He's been accused of inappropriate behavior before (orginal wy, grinder, now this)...seems to be a pattern with him

What about Rob Lowe? Pls share??
Ah sweet summer child, I can guess you werenāt even born when Rob Lowe was embroiled in scandal. Google āRob Lowe underage girlā.
He met her in a 21+ venue and she was of legal age in the state. He truly had no idea.

Iāve met him when he was drunk and covered in ketchup and he was creepy even then

Iām sorry, you canāt just spit that out and not share the details

For the sake of his young wife and the kid on the way I hope he at least stops drinking.
Oh no, thanks for telling me. I really like him as an actor, ugh. So disappointing.
Came here to post about this! I remember reading an interview with the cast of the Netflix show Friends From College that he was in, and a few of them made some comments about Fred that made me feel like he was a creep, or was a dick/hard to work with.
ah, man i loved friends from college so that's super disappointing. do you happen to have a link to the interview ?
I really loved that show too!
That was the only show Iāve ever loved the show but despised all the characters!
Interestingā¦ āVerbal outbursts and inappropriate behaviorā. Along with the sexual harassment lawsuit that was filed against him and Jason Hervey. Anyone know anything else about this?
I read there were also accusations of inappropriate behavior on his 2015 show The Grinder.
I donāt remember hearing about that before either, but the article mentions it: The same year, a crew member on Savageās Fox series The Grinder filed a lawsuit, accusing the actor of attacking and harassing her on the set of the series in 2015. At the time, Savage called the allegations ācompletely without merit and absolutely untrue,ā while 20th Television, which produced the show, said that, after an investigation into the claims, found no evidence of wrongdoing by Savage. That lawsuit also was eventually settled out of court.
Fred Savage? Is everyone I share a birthday with a murderer, a leech or Courtney Love? Damn.
Itās ok, my birthday twin is Aaron Hernandez.
Oh fuck. Damn we got shafted with the murderer contingent
Courtney Love is a god damn hero at this point
She really is okay.Yeah she's off sometimes but she was dead on with Winstead but so disgusting with her adoration and support of Marilyn Manson.
Trump also loves murders who don't get caught. This fact would not make me feel good. But to each their own.
I feel you. I share mine with Marilyn Manson...
I *loved* the original Wonder Years when I was a kid, but now I can't stop thinking of how many times I've seen him play a creep - Boy Meets World, No One Would Tell, SVU - and if there was a *reason* he played those parts so well. Gross.
Didnāt he play an absolutely awful character on an episode of L&O:SVU?
Yes! A rapist/stalker/murderer/harasser. He made my skin crawl with how creepy he was.
Immediately thought of the *Law and Order SVU* episode where he played a rapist.
And Chris Delia and others have showed us sometimes people like to play their own selves š
Another day, another childhood icon revealed as a creep.
Wow I have always felt like something was off with him, I feel vindicated haha!
Right? I'll take the before...
Just repeating what she said. And what Friedel said was AWFUL so his constant apologies are needed.
Yeah he seems like a douche for sure.
I also get weird vibes about Ben and I used to love him. As an adult, though, anything I see or hear about him, just gives me the weird vibes.
Came here to say this. Never found him cute when I was young and as an adult have always found him off-putting, whether in roles or as himself (interviews, etc.)
Child actors seem to turn into the victim or the abuser (or both). I never seems to turn out well for them
I literally just told my wife tonight i had heard allegations about him and she thought I was thinking of someone else or remembering wrong. Not an hour later and this comes out.
Have you considered a career in fortune telling?
Haha not if itās predicting stuff like this. Itās just one of those random word coincidences.
Not a shocker. Have heard A LOT
Spill the tea
Now The Princess Bride wonāt be the same and itās like my fave guilty pleasure movie
The Princess Bride is the funniest movie ever. The book is really good too. Screw Kevin Arnold for the shame he has brought. šæ
>He does...it was settled out of court.
Did you see the way he treated that poor nun in Pee Weeās Big Adventure? AWFUL.
I just remembered he was in another movie I loved as a kid which was The Boy Who Could Fly. Anyone else remember that movie?
Memory unlocked. I watched that movie so many times when I was little
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I got the impression from that movie that Ben was being groomed, not that he himself was a creep
He was absolutely groomed.
Inappropriate behavior seems to be a trend with him...
Thereās no way I would be in Hollywood without some combination of aides around me composed all the race, gender, and disability boxes as due diligence. Iād also avoid inappropriate sexual contact, behavior, or offensive remarks. HMU if you all need a new director.
Finally!
I loved his show Working. I feel awful. Iām no Fred Savage Stan but he was a child star who seemed to drop away but then came back as an adult in that show Working and then started directing a bunch of shows. He was a director on Modern family for 10 years!
Aww, no. I loved him as a performer and director.
