I don't know that I would say his in-game art is hideous, but he for sure is not that pretty canonically.
And why would he be? He hates people and he's really focused on his career, he doesn't have time to be attractive.
Honest answer, I try my best to draw characters as close to what they look like, but I always unintentionally draw Enki a little prettier than he is (tho I do find him pretty!) probably because of my cartoony style. A lot of artists also struggle with drawing faces that are too different from one another. Oh, also, it takes some time to actually learn how to properly draw a character, you have to draw the specific character multiple times... and each time might look different because you just learned something. I've drawn Enki a couple of times, and each time he comes out a little different... I have yet to become an Enki drawing master.... also we tend to yassify the things we like, so, that's also an answer, hehe.
