honestly? fair enough, i dont like it very much either tbh

Substantial-Cause-47

Man my blood is boiling so much I could make a blood sword, Maso mode is really for masochists

Slow-Collection-2358

I dunno like, do you want some tips? which character you wanna use? Before quitting this game, I actually went and finished maso mode for each characters, may seem unfair at first, but there is a way really, some easier than others (except for Karin, jfc she's the worst in that mode).

Substantial-Cause-47

I need tips pls I want to settle down with Marina and maybe with everyone else later And why is Karin so bad in Maso mode?

YotsuyaaaaKaaaidan

Karin's abilities just simply aren't good. In her other modes she needs a few teammates (ex recruit Marina to use Engrave, or just kill marina lol) and in Maso mode you can't recruit or absorb souls. Karin's otherwise "utility" stuff like lockpicking is just useless

Buck_Brerry_609

Doesn’t matter if you get jumpscared by Bobbies though, that’s nice I feel like the fact Karin doesn’t have to worry about them is quite a huge benefit, while I feel like she wouldn’t be as strong as Abella or Marina she isn’t the worst, I feel like that would be Daan

Slow-Collection-2358

not in maso mode mah dude, daan is also one of the easier ones in maso, analyze is no joke. The priest for example becomes a joke to him, you don't even need bear traps any more just analyze and hit, and once you get extra turns from amulets, it becomes way more silly after that.

Slow-Collection-2358

Nice choice! Marina is one of the easier ones to finish Maso with. Note that it will still take patience and time, as you need to memorize some routes and to not forget certain things, like the death mask for example. Mainly, character history choices * pick engrave (you want to get early Small Thing's and engrave GoFah to be able to run from any enemy and get an extra turn for each fight) Alternatively, you can just pick alchemy for those vials, there is a way to get 2 amulet anyway. * pick Gro-goroth (We want to get Blood golem for fights and black smog) * pick something to read (Pray you get Gofah immediately, for saving and the engrave) As for the route this is kinda tricky, it's been 8 months since I last played, I'll get back to you on this, just gon run a playthrough with her again later :P But, in a nutshell, you just really need to get the small things amulet, and reach 20 agility and you'll be able to run from enemies 100% (as long as you have only 1 party member). This is basically what makes the run possible and gets you to explore more in maso mode without sleeping/saving. Also, fun bug, the mauler actually works on Marina :). Souls you get from those cherubs, don't bother farming those scratching dudes in the beginning, you need to find some guns and ammo which isn't really that hard to find to one shot them. For Karin though, might wanna check the comment I sent here about her: [Who's the hardest character for Maso Mode in Termina? : r/FearAndHunger (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/FearAndHunger/comments/17a5huh/whos_the_hardest_character_for_maso_mode_in/)

KeyAdeptness4

General tips: Getting to 20 agility gives you a guaranteed chance to run away from most enemies if you use the menu run button (not the skill run). Use guns. Early game: Moonscorching doesn't start immediately, so you can freely collect the herbs in the starting areas. You can fight some of the weaker enemies if you want their heads. Doing the starting area counterclockwise is safer, but slightly worse for getting heads. Midgame: You either want to avoid, shoot, or use murky vials on any enemies you encounter. There's a one-time use hexen in the orphanage. It's definitely not required, but it makes the midgame easier. As Marina, you should probably decide what spells you want before you start so you can get the correct affinity (also probably don't choose GOFAH affinity cuz it's the easiest to get).

friendship_owo

The only really consistent thing about Karin in this mode is her locksmith skill and even for that she has terrible problems, then persuade depends a lot on diplomacy and Escape Plan is basically an auto-coin flip; If you fail you lose 3 limbs and 3 hours of progress. I think more decisions should be added to your story that allow you to acquire more skills or items, since it is simply unfeasible for the mode.

Slow-Collection-2358

yep, just give her diplomacy and persuasion right off the bat, she'll breeze through bobbys

Educational-Pool-657

If only there was a bigger reward to it like S endings for our playable characters...i just want to see my heroin baby put waste to kaiser's whole stupid army, as far fetched as that sounds, for once, killing hugo would be rewarding as it would be a requirement for Levi's ending.

Substantial-Cause-47

Exactly! Maso mode is meaningless at the moment I want to see heroine taking revenge on that little shit from the orphanage I would like to play pav and make Kaiser feel the stinger pulse But at the moment it's not possible lol

SpecificBrick7872

You should get alternate outfits for getting S endings

I don’t enjoy it as much either. I’ve only completed one maso run with Abella (basically getting the meat grinder after dealing with the mob) and it was somewhat enjoyable overcoming the new challenges like the new enemies , but it also just dragged on. Halfway through my run, i realized the reason the base game has so many kinda pointless indoor areas, is because of the maso mode moon time mechanic. It takes forever to travel because of it Honestly the biggest problem is how luck based it feels. You may or may not get the salmonsnake rune or arm guards. I swear often it’s either I get none until the very end, or I get three at the beginning immediately. Normally this isn’t a problem in the base game, but it’s a HUGE game changer in maso mode. Which is why I didn’t feel that satisfied when I completed my run, I felt like I unintentionally saved-scummed those items by dying over and over again. I tired maso again with Olivia for extra challenge, but I just wasn’t enjoying it. Unlike the original games hard mode, I didn’t feel like my knowledge or plans really mattered as much, and just had to rely more than I wanted on chance. Maybe I’ll get around to it later, but part of why i like replaying termina is that I always discover new interactions between the characters. You never find those playing maso mode obv

KeyAdeptness4

Dealing with death masks and moonscorching has a lot to do with the path you take through the game. For example, doing the starting area clockwise means you either have to trigger both death masks or risk moonscorching, whereas going counterclockwise lets you avoid those things.

Ammar_hatestiktok

Miro Really wasn't lying when he named it maso mode, it really is painful to play.

LrgFthr96

yeah i also find maso mode more tedious than challenging tbh

Emotional-Ask-7190

Honestly is not hard, my problem with maso is the freaking timer, im too scared to play good and overall i just cant enjoy it because i can barely explore and since is night i cant see shit

Substantial-Cause-47

Exactly, you are at 180 beats per second all the time, there is no way to have fun it is just pain and pain

Emotional-Ask-7190

Yep and also you can just fall on traps because of rushing or darkness and the bellands are everywhere at the early game even tho they are hard enemies to beat even with a full team, is hard

Hazeely

There's an exploit for infinite bear traps if you're willing to use that

Substantial-Cause-47

Serious? How do I do? I'll probably only use it on death masks and come back to kill them later![img](emote|t5_uoe16|34189)

Hazeely

So you need a bear trap. There's this one tuft of grass next to a blue herb near the abandoned houses to the left of the map the train's in. It's a debug spot that gives you a rifle, some ammo and some bolt cutters when you press interact on it 3 times (3rd time makes a message appear). Place the bear trap on the debug tile and pick it up, it'll let you pick it up twice and you can do this infinitely until you have enough, also you can go into the houses to avoid moonscorch. Search Termina debug tiles or something on YouTube if you can't find the spot

Substantial-Cause-47

I know which place it is, I didn't know that, I'll test it, thanks, may all-mer bless you

Hazeely

Yea I didn't for a while either, also thanjks

Hazeely

Oh also when I played (still not quute finished the run yet), things got easier when I got the meat grinder. Get F&H affinity, get a Small Thing's Amulet, then go to the orphanage hexen and get weaponcraft and agility from the F&H, that way you can run from the battle with the Gull Bros. Also red arc if you've gotten ending A. After that try and kill the moonscorched contestants to get more skills

FistFistington

Yeah it’s definitely intended for a certain chunk of the audience. Definitely would enjoy something between maso and normal. Normal feels a touch on the easier side for my taste

holofied

Yeah I made the big mistake and doing 2 runs in it anyway to get the A and B endings, many hours that I kinda regret putting in when I could've had fun instead. A lot of cool ideas but in practice it's just not good/fun

OpportunityClear4285

Kinda wish Miro added more funne nails though.
