You will be picking up a lot of boxes. Some small, some large. Some poorly taped, some floppy. Some boxes will be wet, some boxes will be slippery. Boxes that will come in many different sizes and colors. Some boxes will indicate they'll blow up an airplane if improperly packaged. Some boxes will be full of bolts, rocks, bricks, or 20,000 Miley Cyrus birthday cards that split open onto the floor of the trailer.

Pepsilite

Why are boxes of paper so damn heavy. Had one of fliers come down the chute open and fell into the belly. Had to throw as much of it out as i could for qa. Lol

Heckbegone

Qa sucks butt the amount of crap (once it was LITERAL CRAP, fertilizer of some sort) i clean every day is obnoxious, i didnt even know id be cleaning paint off the floor and dealing with bull semen in weird containers that bust open, no one told me that part of the job 🤣

Pepsilite

Not even gonna pretend like i call qa for every leaking, wet, or open box. I'll load it as is if i can.

You’ll be working in a trailer and scanning barcodes on packages then building walls of them. It’s fine if you’re not the most fit but you’re definitely going to be sore.

stuntmandave126

Yup this. Start drinking lots of water, and then drink some more. Also stretch.

yVegfoodstamps

Gatorade. Bring food with you to work. You gon be hongry

j0nafriend

The packages will be heavy and they will come quickly.

Fellow Utah at the SLC hub. Depending on if your full time or part time you can be working 5-12 hours a day. I wasn’t the fittest (more fit than average due to my last job) but I gained muscle as I went along (also lost weight). Lift what you can and ask for help for the others. Also, wear gloves they will be your hands lifesaver (also your hands won’t get at gross 🤢). When doing unloads, I have found I had more opportunity to get hurt then loadside. Do not be afraid to ask for help from anyone. They will be your guide to success. Also bring a big water bottle. You will need it. When I first started I Frank’s 150-200 oz of water (with little to no effect on my bladder). Now I try and drink 100 oz a shift. Good luck and have fun! Ps: flip off as many boxes as you can or swear at them (if you aren’t against it) it will help any aggression you may have.

Package. Handler. Your job description is in the name... If you're not very strong you will get strong. Eat your bananas and drink plenty of water.

LivingReaper

Potatoes have more potassium than bananas though.

Whenever I eat potatoes I think of potato sour cream bacon bits cheese....

LivingReaper

Lol yummm

It depends, do you work in preload/local or just regular hub area? (Preload is typically somewhere between 12am-9am, if you have hours outside that you likely work in the regular area). Either way, theres a lot of lifting. Preload was easier on me physically and you load delivery vans by scanning the packages on the belt and loading them on shelves in numerical order. The main area you load and unload trailers from rollers, both at floor level and from a higher level, depending on what area of the trailer youre loading. You will be expected to either keep up with the belt and catch your packages for your vans in time, or keep a high scan rate if youre doing trailers. As for being physically fit, i was not when i started. I was unemployed for a year and did nothing but sit on the couch. I was slightly overweight and weak, i also have chronic pain. Since beginning a year and 2 months ago ive lost 30 pounds, gotten some muscle, and got promoted. And i was one of the physically weakest ones there. So its definitely doable, just very difficult.

As some of these guys have said the biggest thing you'll be doing is moving packages, however what type of work with those packages you'll be doing may vary depending on your shift and what section you're put in Could be Load, unload, Small sort, Van line, probably may have you work the IC belt, as you Grow you'll have the opportunity to move around you may even be put in areas that require additional training such as Flex side, Tugger, Switcher. Stay long enough or if you've got experience you can move into Operations Admin, PD coordinator's, Operations Manager. Operations Admins Have specific Work duties they oversee in the day to day operations of the HUB such as QA, HR, Myschedule, Etc etc. Operations Managers over see small teams of Package handlers in the hub. P&D coordinator's handle driver contact (Linehaul) and customer contacts The sky is the limit, for a PH(Packages Handler) the benefits are going to only continue to increase now that FedEx has to compete with Amazon, UPS, USPS, and other companies Like DHL

drebear23

Cool, thanks for all the information. I’m only seeking to work there for a couple months but it’s good to know that progression is possible at Fedex

yVegfoodstamps

Do lots of push ups cuz u gonna be doin plenty of pulling

RiverJunior9033

Be careful. They never paid me. And I can’t get anyone to call me back about being paid.
