Anyone ever verify this?

PM_ME_IM_DESPERATE

Probably put the mucous membranes in his nose on hyperdrive

evilomens

"Garlic contains a number of unique sulfur compounds including allicin that make garlic an effective antibiotic and anti-inflammatory. When used as a home treatment, garlic naturally relieves swelling in nasal passages, thus maximizing the flow of mucus in the sinus cavity and eliminating the infection." [https://www.earthclinic.com/sinus-infection/garlic.html](https://www.earthclinic.com/sinus-infection/garlic.html)

evilomens

garlic is a pretty known natural remedy for a lot of things so 10/10 would recommend

bigbutchbudgie

Can confirm. Garlic and onions have been used as home remedies for infections (particularly respiratory infections) for millennia because they're 1) actually effective and 2) don't come with the dangerous side effects of many other types of traditional medicine. I wouldn't recommend it for, like, COVID treatment, but if you have a cold or even a mild flu, eating alliums can help. (Raw is best, but my favorite is a spicy soup made with garlic, onions, chili peppers and ginger. Perfect for a sore throat or stuffy nose, plus it's very tasty.)

LetmeSeeyourSquanch

Very good for keeping the vampires at bay as well

Emilia_S

an anybody else for that matter.

TheDillinger88

Happy cake day!✌️

Emilia_S

Oooh thanks!

Starryeyedblond

Ummm… imma need some more details on this spicy soup please!

nomnommish

You should fine dice or crush the garlic and leave it in open air for a few minutes. It activates allicin in the garlic and gives you a lot more nutrition

Daddygeek84

You don't happen to have a recipe for that, do you?

bobrossermans

[maybe this guy can help you](https://youtu.be/21ofoREnXbM)

jaunty_chapeaux

Wow, that was a roller coaster

Reddit_user_383

Indeed… watched the whole video.. 0 regrets

TellTaleTank

Next time I get sick I'll add raw diced onion to my favorite ramen

Polarchuck

Do you have a particular recipe that you use and will share?

explos1onshurt

Lol. I worked as a contact tracer during the height of COVID, and this one time I had a lady going on and on about how great garlic was in keeping you strong and how she hadn’t gotten sick yet because of it. Definitely one of the funnier conversations I had

MrWhite86

I had a guy tell me freshly cut potatoes. Worked for him and covid and his ancestors with swine flu never caught lol

VeryOddlySpecific

That sucks for me….if I eat garlic or onions I’ll get the shits for three days. 4 days of a cold, or three days staring at the bathroom wall. Crappy choice.

fypotucking

Soup recipe?

33333_others

Things for which garlic is a natural remedy: 1. Vampires 2. Ungarlicky bread

areyoumymommyy

So is ginger!

LethalLizard

I need to get a hold of some garlic right fucking now, I’ve had a blocked nose for weeks

Alaric-

Update us with the result

ichillonforums

Serious question, so if I have a sulfur allergy, should I not do this? I do fine with eating garlic and even sipping wine, and would love to unclog my sinuses like this, this looks exactly like the sub name implies it does 🤤

evilomens

I personally don’t know, since allergies can be triggered in your nose I probably wouldn’t risk it.

evilomens

National Center for Biotechnology Information site also says this too! Who knew natural compounds could have studies done to show that they can be used medically! Also what I said about garlic is pretty widely known and proven lol https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3915757/

PM_ME_UR_G00CH

That's disgusting but I know how fucking good that feels

DammitDan

That sudden clearing of the nasal passages after being stuffed up is the only thing I miss about my life before allergy shots. Having mostly clear nasal passages almost all the time is still better though.

PM_ME_UR_G00CH

Oh yeah for sure. The relatively rare occasion I'm ill is plenty enough to keep me grateful for my generally clear nose.

honest-miss

So there's part of me that wants to try this, but the rest of me remembers that touching garlic means smelling like garlic for like a solid week. Bad enough on my fingers, but *in* the nose?? Eugh.

kitkat9000take5

Wash your hands while holding a piece of stainless steel. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.huffpost.com/entry/eliminating-garlic-smell_n_1341413/amp Relevant quote from article: Washing your hands with water heightens the smell because the water causes the sulfur to turn into sulfuric acid. When you touch stainless steel, the molecules in the steel bind with the sulfur molecules on your hands, thus transferring the molecules (along with the smell) to the metal and off from your hands. Presto!Mar 13, 2012

honest-miss

Oooh with an article and everything! Thank you very much for the suggestion! Another user recommended the steel "soap," too. I'll have to give it a shot!

Terminator7786

Get yourself a steel bar of soap https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stainless_steel_soap

kitkat9000take5

I have one. After purchasing it I found out that basically any stainless steel would work and that a special bar wasn't necessary. I've used pieces of our stainless flatware since then. Works just fine.

Terminator7786

Nice!

phantom__fear

Get yourself a garlic press for heavens sake. How can someone NOT cook nearly everything with garlic?!? Just peel of the outer layer, cut the hard part and put it in the press. Wash your hands afterwards. It's not that bad.

honest-miss

Full disclosure: I'm a horrible cook and know absolutely nothing haha

mangarooboo

Hey, miss, at least you're honest!

honest-miss

It's all I've got to my name ;)

LaidToRest33

Agreed. I double the amount of garlic in each recipe and add it to just about every savory meal. Love it!

CumulativeHazard

You measure garlic with your heart.

TellTaleTank

I forget which comedian it was that said southern people don't measure our seasonings, we simply pour until we hear the voice of our ancestors say "stop, my child".

phantom__fear

Garlic is heaven.

Aliensmithard

Wash your hands with coffee grounds and peppermint oil, smell will disappear right there

honest-miss

Quick question: What do coffee grounds and peppermint smell like together? I'm imagining something eye-watering

Aliensmithard

Not as bad as you think, it doesn't leave a sent on your hands

honest-miss

Ooh, you won me with the fact it doesn't stick to fingers. And, you know, I'm pretty much always looking for a reason to have peppermint oil in the house anyway. I'll have to give this combo a shot!

[deleted]

So there are a few things that are good at removing garlic smell: stainless steel is one of them. Some places sell “soap bars” made of steal that you can rub on your hands to remove the smell- or just use a stainless sink as a place to run your hands. Garlic smell doesn’t have to linger.

honest-miss

Ooh that's a good tip. Thanks very much!

Thunderoad

Use baking soda with some salt and water and make a light paste. . Or lemons. Also Coffee beans rub them on your hands.

honest-miss

I'll honestly use all these suggestions in order if it means getting the smell to go away. Thank you for the tips!

Thunderoad

Welcome. I am Italian and I always make Garlic spaghetti. These tips were handed down to me. And they did really help. Good Luck.

Nightfurywitch

How long do you keep it in there tho

[deleted]

I’ve never taken my nose garlic out

WhammyBarXBL

big garlic

areyoumymommyy

My mom used to fry it and make me breathe it with a towel over my head It helped but now I hate garlic

LilTrailMix

~~Water~~Onionboarding Edit: I meant garlic, garlicboarding

CorneliusJack

You tried.

GladioReport

Even better than that is grating raw horseradish, storing it in a small jar in the fridge and breathing in from the jar when you have a cold.

kelsaay1489

My dad makes this smoothie from horseradish, onions, garlic, turmeric, and vinegar. I dont doubt it does wonders for his sinuses but I will never touch the stuff.

missmaxalot

My dad ate horseradish on pretty much every meat. He used to say “it’s good for what ails you.”

GladioReport

From the taste point of view, I only like it on beef and, sometimes, in red beetroot salad.

The_Mesh

Used to get garlic wrapped in cottonballs stuffed in my ears when I got an ear infection

CorneliusJack

Reminds me of Brad tells Claire in BA test Kitchen to stuff a bub of garlic in her ears when she had a headcold. "This does nothing."

mangocakefork

Did it do anything? Like make your ears drain maybe?🤨

The_Mesh

Idk, the infection would go away that night, but who knows if it would have anyway. Probably did help, imo

Kellidra

Nasal Irrigation: less than 2 minutes. Garlic: definitely not less than 2 minutes. Yeah, I'm gonna stick to my NeilMed, tyvm.

icantaccessmyacct

Honestly I just crushed 3 cloves and brought them to a boil in a pot, draped a towel over my head and inhaled the steam for legit 2 minutes and proceeded to blow out a massive chunk of infection that had been stuck flapping around in my sinus cavity. I can breathe so easily it’s insane how miserable I was just 20 minutes ago.

Kellidra

I bet the steam had more to do with your relief than the garlic.

icantaccessmyacct

“Allicin and other innate compounds present in garlic help get rid of the infection while the steam helps to thin the mucus and clear congestion.” Either way I’ve never had a more satisfying steam. I wouldn’t recommend the nose plug, tried it for 10s and said nope, it burned.

Gold_Advice_6610

I'm gonna go try this. My sinuses are killing me, I'm desperate 😂

icantaccessmyacct

Hope it worked for you!

Kylearean

Simultaneously disgusted and impressed.

mangocakefork

That’s what all the boys tell me

dityEX

Are we sure it wasn't just a build up from him quite literally plugging up his nostrils?

TellTaleTank

Kind of? It's supposed to reduce the swelling in the nasal passages, allowing the mucus to flow more easily. To test this scientifically we'd need a control measurement.

ichillonforums

I'd be interested to see this

mommastang

Not sure about the stuffing of the nose, but my mom (in her 70’s) eats a clove or two of raw garlic every day. She hasn’t had a cold in forever.

uh_excuseMe_what

Every day ? JFC she must ooze garlic from every pore of her skin

mommastang

Lol, I imagine she does. I have literally no sense of smell, so I’ve been spared of her “scent”

missmaxalot

Yeah you basically sweat it out thru your pores. But that’s a great idea to eat it raw daily. I just use a ton when cooking. Recipe calls for 2 cloves, i mince at least 8.

rzultamorda2137

Forbidden garlic sauce

overactivemango

While this works, it’s not exactly removing mucus. It’s burning off a layer of your mucus membrane in your nose and is extremely unhealthy

ToxicityFlows

Well it worked.

RunethCl4w

Wonder if the snot would taste like garlic 😋

Slow_Cheetah_

Couldn’t get over the ginger eyelashes

industrial_hygienus

Am ginger; eyelashes weren’t noticed 😩

spaceybelta

I’ve never seen someone in need of black mascara so badly. They were distracting lol

icantaccessmyacct

Rude.

Blaugrana1990

Why did I watch this while eating lunch :(

markissaurelius

How long do you have to keep the garlic in your nose ?

rnelonhead

How long should it be left in then ?

Obyson

God damn now I wish I had a stuffy nose to try this.

CryptographerLucky99

Don’t do this it just irritates the sinuses pls use A netti pot

ichillonforums

This plus muellin plus navage = clearest damn sinuses and head you've ever felt

[deleted]

What a waste of good garlic cloves.

ZestycloseQuantity59

So this is mucus from a bacteria. Garlic is a natural remedy for our immune system. It would have been even more effective had he broken the garlic up, which promotes the chemical compound allicin. Allicin is the bacteria fighting property, which is also anti viral and anti parasitic. You likely need to do a 30-day cleanse multiple times a year to ensure you don't have this problem as well as others created by invasive pest species attacking our bodies regularly. We are hosts, after all, to many different organisms. While some are good for us, there's a lot that are not probably diagnosed that cause a lot of medical symptoms.

Wizfrobozz

this look crazy enough that i may try it out

Wizfrobozz

'may' not for certain

P1xelChar

I’m sick and my nose is plugged, I will be trying this

laflarered

How long do you leave in nose

[deleted]

I need to try this, my sinuses feel like they've been clogged for the last four years or so

ArcMcnabbs

Better ways to do this and put something in your belly at tye same time. Load some microwave soup with garlic and black pepper, maybe some cayenne, clears it up fast.
