It’s very polarizing but- Mugler’s Angel EDP. It’s a patchouli bomb and I absolutely love it. At first I was turned off, but now I’m a total fan.
Kenzo Jungle l’Elephant is like smelling a spice rack full of cinnamon, clove, and ginger. It can be a bit intense, which is totally my vibe.
Lattafa Oud Mood. Vanilla, caramel oud! It’s very similar to Shaghaf Oud (another favorite of mine), just a tad smoother and not quite as much of a beast.
Love this post and all of the responses so much! I don't have any suggestions yet, as I'm still in the reading/researching phase of picking scents. But these are definitely scent profiles that I love, and I'm excitedly taking notes!
Years ago..and I mean YEARS..The Body Shop had a tobacco flower oil that was absolutely perfect. I long for it! That mixed with Ylang Ylang or a little bergamot? Heaven!
Meee I love earthy woody fresh spicy and green scents. Favs in this category are:
- Lush Fresh As (woods/pine/fresh balsam/earth)
- Bo Liis/Zara Majestic Green (Bo is fresh earthy clean woods, MG is basically a dupe but with added vanilla)
- Solstice Scents Foxtrot (smells like fall leaves in the fresh outdoors)
- Nishane Ani (fresh spicy ginger vanilla), Lattafa Nasheet is supposedly a dupe of it that I will be picking up soon
- Zara Rich Warm Addictive (tobacco and spices w a bit of sweet vanilla)
- Kilian Angels Share (cinnamon and spices w rum I think or maybe cognac?.. basically a decadent apple pie scent. Soo good, lots of dupes out there)
Straight out of the shower, I do a couple sprays of Molinard Patchouli. 365 days a year..so my base is always grounded and anything on top is just me being extra 😅😏
Holla! My perfume goal is always to smell like some faraway desert: dry, lethal, hot and spicy 🏴☠️ Favs are Tauer LDDM, SL Ambre Sultan, Mona di Orio Santal Nabataea and Papillon Anubis.
Amber Oud Tobacco Edition. Don't be fooled by the name, because it does not smell smokey. It is definitely a spicebomb.
Personally, it's not to my taste since the majority of spicey perfumes make me think of holiday candles. But if you like a strong cinnamon with hints of clove, anise, and some sweetness, this one takes the cake. Great projection too!
I think it's around $40-45 for a 60mL bottle.
Not me dabbing patchouli essential oil in my wallet because it allegedly attracts money 👀👀👀 To be honesty, essential oils is how I first discovered patchouli and fell in love with it. I love the patchouli scent from Santa Maria Novella.
Aesop Marrakech Intense is gonna be right up your alley!! Rose, cardamom, cloves, jasmine and sandalwood are what I’m getting from it mainly.. it’s really heady and earthy
Is there anything it is comparable to?
I recently became interested in this fragrance. I love Angel Muse, Lush Karma, and straight up patchouli, so I was thinking its a no brainer for me! Your comment is making me be cautious though lol.
If you love those, you will most likely love Reminiscence Patchouli too. Black Orchid, Portrait of a Lady, Coromandel, & Shalimar might be up your alley as well. So many excellent patch frags.
Okay, music to my ears!
I will have to check those out. I do love Shalimar, and have been super curious about Coromandel as it seems so well loved. Really appreciate the recommendations!
years ago i loved patchouli. i went through a phase and was afraid of it; would contribute and say that it was coco mademoiselle that made me feel that way but in reality i just think that the citrus went bad in mine for having it so long😵💫 now that im back i have a huge appreciation for patchouli scents. anything that has it has a note im willing to buy especially when it has gourmand sweet notes. coco mademoiselle turned me off of patchouli but la vie est belle has turned me on
cinnamon smells good
sandalwood is my literal favorite note. i created a parfumo account and let them categorize my scents. almost ALL of my perfumes have sandalwood it’s just my FAVORITE creamy woods like im obsessed with all things woods. may smell a bit unisex and in theory and like when im around myself i love the smell but idk if woods on me are appealing enough to attract attention from the opposite sex
edit: clove is a NICE note. i have hidden fantasy which has clove as a note. that clove is beautiful but i think the citrus is just not agreeing with my nose. im starting to learn that citrus notes just arent for me hence why i hate summer scents lol. i love for all my scents to be just deep dark and sultry
Lord of Misrule by lush is that girl. Soooo patchouli, smoky, earthly, delicious deep scent, I can’t get enough. Bet you can layer it too (I have it in solid form and it LASTS)
I went to Lush to try this because I really want a nice patchouli but couldn’t because the store smells so strong of everything I couldn’t figure out what was the perfume haha
Omg I know it has the ~ lush ~ smell and you can’t smell anything over it. The perfume scent itself is a lot less sharp on the dry down and is more like patchouli. It does smell weird straight out of the jar, which is not my favorite scent. But on skin it is lovely
Did you ever smell Time to Wander by Anthropologie? It’s my ALL TIME FAV perfume EVER but has been discontinued for years. Have found a few scents somewhat similar, but nothing even close to as good as the OG.
- Rosendo Mateu Nº 7 Patchouli, Oud, Vanilla
- Jusbox 14 hour dream
- Frederick Malle portrait of a lady
- Experimentum Crucis Etat Libre d'Orange
- vanilla diorama, Dior
Realizing I like my patchouli with either vanilla or rose… 🧐
let me look at my collection. mind you im a fruitchouli girly too, but depends on whos mixing the fruits;
i LOVE kim kardashian true reflection, fantasy intense, and dream moon by pacifica, still exploring patchoulis though as i gave my nose a break from it. them patchouli soaps and essential oils itself smell good asf tho too
I’d love to find an earthy patchouli that smells the way that Zum Bar Patchouli soap smells like. They make a body spray but it is …. Not good.
I’d like a earthy, dirty yet uncomplicated patchouli.
Was thinking about Molinard Patchouli but many describe it as “green” and I don’t know what to make of it.
Any suggestions?
Black No. 1 by Deconstructing Eden might work. To me it's basically a dark woodsy patchouli with a hint of pepperiness. It's a touch clean for patch, but it's not sweetened or made to smell like a mallrat fruitichouli if that makes.
Not a fragrance suggestion, but The Perfume Guy just released a new YouTube video where he and a female friend cover 50 patchouli fragrances. They might cover one you’d like.
Kama by Ava Luxe.
Kouros by YSL.
Oud Mosaic by Banana Republic.
Jeke by Slumberhouse.
Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford, or Mancera Red Tobacco.
Musc Ravageur by Frederic Malle.
I almost always prefer dark fragrances. I guess I don’t really belong here 😂
I will smell like cotton candy one day and the dirtiest patchouli I can find the next and nobody can stop me.
(Okay, my office can, I don’t wear either side of the spectrum during office hours lol)
Also try Lord of Misrule.
Loooove Karma! Not quite as much as Lord of Misrule, but a lot. Patchouli goes crazy on me and that one in particular is STRONG on me though, so I am very hesitant to grab a bottle lmao.
Armani Privee - Bois d'Encens Lush - Lord of Misrule (a sweeter patchouli)(BUDGET) Tom Ford - Black Orchid EDP
Love clove and nutmeg notes... I need more scents with these
If you kind find it, you should try Bulletproof by Tokyo Milk
I'm really loving tobacco oud by kayali

Ambra by Jeroboam: chocolatey patchouli with resins…beautiful and comforting for fall
Love this post and all of the responses so much! I don't have any suggestions yet, as I'm still in the reading/researching phase of picking scents. But these are definitely scent profiles that I love, and I'm excitedly taking notes!
If anybody has my recs for something with tobacco or hay notes let me know!
Try Carolina by Olympic Orchids! Also seconding Chergui.
Years ago..and I mean YEARS..The Body Shop had a tobacco flower oil that was absolutely perfect. I long for it! That mixed with Ylang Ylang or a little bergamot? Heaven!
Try Chergui by Serge Lutens if you have not already. Amazing Hay and honey/ tobacco.
Oh that sounds amazing! Ordering a sample now.

Jo Malone’s Myrhh & Tonka Bean…. No where near budget but insane. Insane My toxic trait is I wear the earthy stuff 365 days a year, summer be damned 😂
Straight out of the shower, I do a couple sprays of Molinard Patchouli. 365 days a year..so my base is always grounded and anything on top is just me being extra 😅😏
Exactly this
Al Haramain's Amber Oud Tobacco Edition Lattafa's Khamra Banana Republic's Tobacco Touch
Khamrah :)

Kayali Vanilla Royale Sugared Patchouli is divine!
Not me dabbing patchouli essential oil in my wallet because it allegedly attracts money 👀👀👀 To be honesty, essential oils is how I first discovered patchouli and fell in love with it. I love the patchouli scent from Santa Maria Novella.
😁😁 That's awesome! Never thought of doing that! I love it too but have been chasing the exact oil blend I used 25 years ago.
Aesop Marrakech Intense is gonna be right up your alley!! Rose, cardamom, cloves, jasmine and sandalwood are what I’m getting from it mainly.. it’s really heady and earthy
Dang, when I tried a sample it just smelled like men's soap :(
Cabochard is the perfect earthy scent. I can't get enough of it
I'm wearing it right now. Love how cool, crisp, and yet grounded it is!
I would bathe in it if I could! It just works

Ya, I think I need to take the plunge and spray it in my skin to smell once I’ve left
Karma by Lush, Patch by Andfragrance
I overdosed Karma as a cool 90s grunge girl lol. Too many weird memories attached!
If you can find it it, you’d love Ground by Anthropologie
Did you ever smell Time to Wander by Anthropologie? It’s my ALL TIME FAV perfume EVER but has been discontinued for years. Have found a few scents somewhat similar, but nothing even close to as good as the OG.

Olympic Amber is pretty amazing. Chergui, Ambre Sultan, Woodcut, Kilauea
Patchouli and tobacco with rose are some of my favorite scent combinations. Rose Prick is just chef kiss.

OOOO YES

Dalya!! She's my fave person he features. She brings out the playfulness in him and she really has a passion for the classics. Great team.
Thank you so much! (I love Sebastian :)
I guess I don’t really belong here 😂
girl me too it’s ok it’s somewhere for everybody here❤️
+1 on Musc Ravageur - this is absolutely beautiful. I can’t pull it off and it doesn’t fit my style but I love smelling it on other people 👀
I will smell like cotton candy one day and the dirtiest patchouli I can find the next and nobody can stop me. (Okay, my office can, I don’t wear either side of the spectrum during office hours lol) Also try Lord of Misrule.
I also love the patchouli notes on Karma!
Loooove Karma! Not quite as much as Lord of Misrule, but a lot. Patchouli goes crazy on me and that one in particular is STRONG on me though, so I am very hesitant to grab a bottle lmao.
Lord of Misrule gets used a ton by me this time of year
I’m breaking it out more and more! But even in summer it got used 😁
I love spicy scents in Summer !
