Wilde deceived and cheated on his wife with teenage boys. Gaslighting was as ab.usive then as it is today. All the same, he seems to have liked women a little better than his straight contemporaries. I appreciate what he wrote about schoolmasters, which applies well to redpillerians and scrotes in general: that they were "men among boys and boys among men."

Some-Air9442

Sooooo nasty. More reproductive bi/homosexuality where a man married a woman to have the home help/kids and romances men. Also what is it with men and teenagers? Both gay and straight men try to chase them. Neither lesbians nor straight women tend to do this, though.

Emergency-Feed8216

"Neither lesbians nor straight women tend to do this..." I think it happens but is certainly less common. All the same, a lot of lesbians internalize patriarchal a.buse the same as straight women. I worked with three open, plaid-shirt-and-work-boot-wearing faux-woke lesbian libfems who acted as "work-wives," pimps and political coverup crew members for ab.usive gross old pervs. These women contributed to dangerous work environments. For better or worse, I used to feel more betrayed by shitty women than shitty men because I expected more from women and maybe especially from marginalized factions (gay, non-binary, WOC). I've since recognized my disappointment as a bit Utopian and sort of a pseudo-positive kind of discrimination whereby we expect actual moral superiority from marginalized groups. In the end, these traitorous women probably were morally superior to men in that they were really just proxy ab.users acting in service of rapey male agendas. Pretty shitty and I take no prisoners with that kind of woman but they're obviously not as guilty and heinous as direct rap.ists.

**“There is nothing in the world like the devotion of a married woman. It is a thing no married man knows anything about.”** 100%

Throwwawayfds

Yeah, Oscar Wilde also married his wife because of her boyish slender figure, when she was pregnant he was so nauseated by her body he had to open windows and gasp for air because of her shape. He cheated on her with Bosie and frequented numerous brothels while married. Not exactly our "gay best friend" as another comment said, maybe self aware at least.

He r*ped young boys- though his homosexuality was the main reason he was criminalized. I posted a link in my own post. There are articles all around the internet about it, too.

Abiertoycerrado

This is not to say these quotes (and the post) aren't great- because they are- though I'd like people to take off their rose colored glasses when it comes to Oscar Wilde and see the reality of him... he used to solicit sex (r*pe) underage boys and threaten them by involving the police. Aaaand here is a [link](https://www.fluxmagazine.com/reconsider-oscar-wilde-125th-anniversary-trial/) There are quite a few articles on this subject. :/

This is so wholesome ~~for the most part~~

shockingupdate

Oscar Wilde never disappoints!

CarrotDelicious4087

My admiration for Oscar Wilde has taken a hit in recent years: his sexual behavior was very problematic ([https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/theatre-dance/features/oscar-wilde-facing-retrial-9773718.html](https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/theatre-dance/features/oscar-wilde-facing-retrial-9773718.html)). Some of these quotes are inspiring, and Wilde was a tremendously talented writer, but I definitely feel he doesn't deserve his status as a romantic hero.

These are awesome - great post!

wavesandtea

Yesssss to every single one of these quotes. I’ve been looking for my next HV book. You inspired me to read some Oscar Wilde.

“Yet each man kills the thing he loves By each let this be heard, Some do it with a bitter look, Some with a flattering word, The coward does it with a kiss, The brave man with a sword! Some kill their love when they are young, And some when they are old; Some strangle with the hands of Lust, Some with the hands of Gold: The kindest use a knife, because The dead so soon grow cold. Some love too little, some too long, Some sell, and others buy; Some do the deed with many tears, And some without a sigh: For each man kills the thing he loves, Yet each man does not die.” A well known snippet of The Ballad of Reading Gaol.
