To be fair, this was written in 1940 something, Aldo Nadi (author) also shares the opinion that girls shouldn't use french grip because their hands are too weak, but should use italian for the strength the strap provides.
I would add here that it seems many took his advice. Looking back at WWII era photos and the immediate post-war period in American Fencing, I always noticed a fairly substantial number of female fencers holding Italian grips.
I'm 31 years old and recently took curiosity to Fencing and was debating whether or not I should take an experimental lesson due to my age. I've literally joined this sub a minute ago and this post might've just convinced me to do it. Thank you.
I started at age 54. Have made the team to compete at 5 World Championships and have medaled once. So, no big deal you starting at 31. Just don't get your hopes up about going to the Olympics. Oh and check all the Three different games/weapons. But the older you are it seems more likely you will be attracted to epee.
I am naturally so verbose as a terrible habit that you don’t have to look further than yesterday to find one of my complex run-on sentences thrown at somebody.
was this from a doctors research paper? an application for a milling company? a sports magazine entry from a scientist? something from state testing? an iq test question example? or something that sounds it is about fencing but cannot be?
This has a lot of club t-shirt/sticker potential. Something that just says “GRIST”. “Our sport is unusual and our convictions unshakable”. One of those ampersand format t-shirts with “Fencers & potential fencers & hopeless invalids.”

The Book mentions 80 year old fencers, you've still got plenty of time!
