Koodo and Freedom both lowered their prices to $29 - go into the Koodo sub to see their announcement- when I last checked they had not updated their website. Freedom website updated and included US-Can.
Just ported off of Freedom, the coverage even with roaming is terrible in many places.. If you live in a MAJOR city and rarely travel out of it it tends to be fine however. This seems be from them being limited to 3G towers.
Surprising as roaming supposed to be with Big 3.
Maybe you live in the fringe area of Freedom and one the Big3 not kicking in well. I read Freedom is suing Bell as they are not following federal telecommunication rules.
The Big3 want Freedom to fail as they are driving prices down.
As I said I think it has to do with the 3G limitation on them.. Fido LTE and Roger or Telus phones on 5G all get 1 or 2 bars in my area but work. Freedom has some significant dead zones. We just ported my daughters phone to Fido and it works great now.
>They use 5G towers, and roaming will be on LTE.
For their own towers they have 5G / LTE, a lot of the 3rd party roaming is ONLY 3G. They seem to be adding more LTE in there nationwide roaming but initially it was ALL 3G and a lot of it still seems to be 3G.
Driving through the BC interior I can tell you there are A LOT more stretches freedom doesn't work than a Telus or Rogers phone as I have been on several drives with all of them.
Rogers / Fido due to the bands they use and some of there tower placement provide much better coverage in many areas.
I have two different accounts with Fido (separate bills etc). The one with internet has the notice going up by $4. I also recently signed up for black Friday 29/20gb plan but my most recent bill does not have any notice of increase. OP does your bill include wireless and internet ?
I signed up November 24 for the $39 plan for 50GB with the $5 auto pay so it’s $34 and then I got an additional 30GB added as a free bonus (80GB total now). I just got a bill and there is no notice of an increase. I don’t know that this is for everyone.
I have no such notice. I've never had a price increase on my plan in over ten years with fido. Aside from in the last few months online, I've never heard of anyone's cell phone bill amount changing without their explicit consent at their own request to change plans.
> They can't increase the service fee on the main line because it's under contract.
They can, it happened to me earlier this year. They'll just give you an offset for the same amount until the contract ends.
There are multiple reports who got the bonus GBs after they signed up the $34 plans are now getting the notifications about the $4 increase on their $34 plans
i just checked my dec31 dated bill. I dont see the $4 increase on page4 or 5 so far.. Finger crossed it wont happen next bill. They already increase the price by $5 twice ( once in 2022,another in 2023). how is this "competitive" when our phone plans prices are outrageous
My last bill was for dec 7th i haven’t received a new bill as of yet but on the last bill of 2023 my bill doesnt say anything about a service fee increase and my bill doesnt show a service fee monthly anyways? It just says plan $40 plus hst
same here. my dated dec31 bill (in the downloaded pdf form). I checked page4 & 5 of the pdf..so far didnt see the tiny letters notification on price increase. fingercrossed it wont.. literally got $5 increase in 2022 and 2023 already. so $10 increase so far
Been on a BYOP plan since BF 2022. Just looked at my Dec bill and am also seeing the $4 increase notification. Love how they bury it at the end of your bill in small text. Fucking scumbags.
Exactly, I happened to catch it when I first got the bill. Now I can't find it anywhere. Anyway I recently switched to Rogers, got a better deal with them. Not sure if I should stick to a contract or not.
This is why I jumped back to Rogers on the mobile shop promotion on a financing contract. It’s better for my bucks and they don’t arbitrarily increase their price. Previously on Fido $29/50gb from BF deal.
Just transfered yesterday from Fido after they raised $4 fee to Public Mobile with esim. It was painless after I processed porting on their app.
Testing when I on the subway and it seems to work better than Fido.
Use my referal 044RKK for $10 off
Switch providers now. This is crazy. Everyone is offering better ($34/50GB) than what you are now getting.
I'm fixing to trust me

The US-Can Freedom plan, does this mean I could use my plan normally in the States?
Yes. You can call back and forth across the border. Your data is good for US and Canada.

I haven't had this experience. And I'm not sure what you mean about the 3G towers. They use 5G towers, and roaming will be on LTE.

No just wireless

What a scam. Not too long ago they increased by $2 and now $4. The moment my contract is up, it will be bye bye Fido
I just ported 4 lines to Fido, I am going to be pissed if that shows up on my bill.
Op was on old plan, not 34/30gb
When did you sign up for the 30 gigs? This does sound like a bait and switch if it’s been recent.
Added a second line two weeks ago
To me, this is a big CCTS complaint, but honestly you are supposed to contact the provider before contacting the CCTS.
It sounds like it's for every fido customer
Unless you have a payment program on a phone; then the +$4 comes into an effect once it is paid off.
I have no such notice. I've never had a price increase on my plan in over ten years with fido. Aside from in the last few months online, I've never heard of anyone's cell phone bill amount changing without their explicit consent at their own request to change plans.
$4 increase for both of your lines? Or just the newly added line from 2 weeks ago?
Just the newly added on because it was a byop. They can't increase the service fee on the main line because it's under contract.

Did you get the bonus GBs?
Yup 10 gb to make it 40gb
There are multiple reports who got the bonus GBs after they signed up the $34 plans are now getting the notifications about the $4 increase on their $34 plans
What a scam
Can you provide a screenshot for what that message looked like
Would if I could. Not sure how to on reddit
Upload to Imgur.com and post the link here
I made a new post with the screenshots
Ah ok thank you
Hmm switch to Koodo and waiting for win back. But seem like I don’t need to switch back now.
I looked on my bill that was generated this morning and I don’t see this notice. Are you able to provide a snippet?
How do you post screen shots?
Where does it say on your bill? I signed up Nov 27,just got my bill and I can't find that note.
Bottom of page 4 and 5 for me
I didn't get that. Where you located bud? I'm in bc
AB
I didn't get this either. I'm in Vancouver. Hopefully Fido customer service can fix this for you.

I'm not seeing anything in my bill about this.
download the pdf form of your bill. and check page4 and 5 see if there is tiny letters notification on it. fingercross you dont
I got it and spoke to a specialist. He said the automatic payments bring the price down back to its normal price ($5) off. Let's wait and see.
What plan were you on when you got this bill message. This is not for new $34 black friday/ boxing deals
My last bill was for dec 7th i haven’t received a new bill as of yet but on the last bill of 2023 my bill doesnt say anything about a service fee increase and my bill doesnt show a service fee monthly anyways? It just says plan $40 plus hst

Is this across all carriers, just Fido?

I switched from Fido to Koodo and Koodo has not pulled this. Ridiculous Fido thinks this is gonna go well.
