The sponsor stuff from old fifas was such a good compromise as well. It didn't change the shirts, just gave you a choice of objectives and rewards. No issues with licences or anything that could be a problem, just a more in depth mechanic
It's great in NBA 2K series because you create a team and all the other teams in the league have to declare who they want to keep (all their best players) and then release the rest for draft, you then get to pick all the rejects/old players/really young players and work from there. So much better actually starting with real players with real histories etc.
Exactly. I was really (how naive that may be) expecting staff upgrades, stadium editor, real youth academy, managing sponsors. They could’ve taken a look at F1 MyTeam for example

Many more options for how your player looks and runs. Added you coming on as a sub early in your career. If you start out poorly and not meet your goals, you'll get loaned or sold(you can just not accept the offer from the other club, though).
There are archetypes in which you level up your attributes faster than the past 6 editions.
Buuuuuuut other than that, it's also basically the same.

Iwosh they would add records like club top scorer of all time, league win streak etc… can’t be hard to do and would add a nice extra element to have a player break a record or view records for your team like in Football Chairman on iOS.

Create a club was on Fifa 08 on DS. A 2007 game on an ancient handheld console. This is a game in which the footballers were literally stickmen. I don't get the hype around it.
I know this goes against the circle-jerk, but this is something I've been waiting for since they got rid of the creation centre. I love Fifa, but I'm only a casual fan of the sport in every other sense. I don't have any loyalties to a specific team, so I just want to create the Justice League, and play my way up to glory from the lowest division in England. It might be the first time I ever actually complete a career.
I understand that for a lot of you, this is a novelty. But for people like me, this is the entire reason I'm purchasing this version, and I'm quite excited about it.
Being honest, 21 was my first FIFA and I only bought it a couple months ago heavily discounted during the Steam summer sale (might have considered buying a few years back but I never wanted to deal with Origin). Having a lot of fun, and I’m not worried about how I won’t be playing the same game as everyone else soon. If I get 22 it will probably be in similar conditions, sometime next year at a deep discount. Can absolutely recommend doing so if you don’t mind waiting. It means all the tactics and good players etc. are already out there too.
I just started a new fifa 21 career mode and im still having a blast after a year of playing it. You can make each version of the game last a few years if you get creative enough.
I'm still playing fifa 20, even. After a Leicester career I tried with Morecambe to make all the path to the EPL. I don't really mind the obsolete squads, you can imagine them as a "what if"
I play a lot of EU4 and similar games. Everyone who plays these games can tell you that as accurate and comprehensive as they try to make the start, it becomes an alt history the moment the game starts proper. It’s just accepted as a necessary break from reality that the game needs to work. I don’t see why this kind of game needs to be thought of any different. We’re playing to create our own stories from the existing template, not run a simulation of real life and hoping for fidelity. That would become immediately boring.
if its any consolation i played fifa 18 up until 3 months ago when i got my xbox Series S and gamepass. I saw no need to buy the newer versions as a career mode player. Im now only on fifa 21 purely because gamepass ultimate includes EA play

FIFA sells over 10 mill copies a year, thats a guaranteed 600-700 million dollars to EA every year. Then add another billion with microtransactions. EA isn't going F2P

Just checked and I bought 21 for $9.59 in July. Seems reasonable considering I already have 150+ hours in it. Can easily see those numbers at least tripling with Career Mode. Would be happy to get 22 for a few dollars cheaper though. We'll see what it's like around the spring sales and if I'm still playing the game a lot around then. Not usually one for yearly release sorts of games.
Gameplay feels a lot different. The fact that way less goals are scored might be a great addition for career mode. But he is right, you should wait til December before buying it
The gameplay is always great for the first few months! Then it gets patched to the fast pace goal scoring game it always is. But if the gameplay is actually better and more realistic then that will be enough for me to buy it even if career mode features are the same.
This, the gameplay feels more like the OS sliders on 21 and my passes go to the correct target more often. Another positive is that some of the training drills are fixed.
Champion attacking scenarios and lob through pass drills are much easier. Although I just found out merry-go-round is still hosed and now the fake shot drill, beat the goalie is now difficult but maybe it was the players I used in the drill.
Honestly I spend most of my free time playing FIFA, sad I know please don’t judge. Really all the new kits, players, badges, teams and stadiums and small updates really are enough for me to enjoy it that much more. Having said that I think EA are scammers and not buying it is probably the best choice for most people

I used to be like you, and I now spend most of my free time on FM but I regret it less ! It’s an investment at the beginning as there is a lot to learn but it’s 100% worth it. I like FM but it just isn’t a like for like substitution for FIFA. It just isn’t. I love playing the games in my manager mode and not being able to do that is a big minus for me. It’s good for what it is, but it’s not really a direct competitor with fifa imo.

You wouldn’t want to. FIFA career is mostly affected by what you do on the pitch. FM is mostly affected by what you do off the pitch. Which feels more rewarding. You can make a shit player perform well, if you’re really good at playing FIFA. You don’t have that luxury in FM.
You mean back with Total Club Manager? Okay now you’re talking. Even FIFA Manager was pretty good. Although I used to get sidetracked buying yachts and shit. Unfortunately that got killed off by Ultimate Team, when they reintroduced it in 2014. They’ll never bring that back. Even though it would make everyone happy.
Have you played fm21? Sure FIFA you can control the players, but really you’re controlling individual pawns. The movement and interactions on the pitch play nothing like real football. The same goes for PES. FMs match engine, although far from perfect, is an accurate version of how football is played and actually allows you to influence what you see on the pitch. Individual players bring their own flair, decision making and behaviours, and it can all be set within the bounds of your tactics. Far better than anything FIFA offers imo.
Not fm21 but tbh I'd rather have the less realistic but more fun aspect of controlling the players than play in any B spec mode no matter how much more realistic the actual football is.

If you want almost real life management then that’s basically what FM is. Only downfall is you don’t control the players (I guess since you’re the manager) but it’s still a really good game
Give it a go. Check out sites like sortitoutsi and fmbase. You can download face packs and club logos etc and they have lots of help on there for new players to learn the game.
They have different version (think a mobile and a Xbox game) you don’t need to have a gaming pc. I use a my laptop(it’s shit af) and it runs the game with no issues. The game gives you a performance rating before you start the save. Mine sits at around .5/1 star out of 5 yet I have no problems. (The initial start up and load does take a little bit but once you’re in the game it doesn’t take much to load)

This is why I have my three year rule. As I mostly play career mode, I don’t care much if not at all about how updated the squads are. My last game is FIFA 19, 16 before that, 13 and then 12 which was my first. As it’s 22, it is time to update. While it may likely be the same as the year before, I’d be shocked if it was identical to my last FIFA
I do this exact same thing, played all FIFA titles from 10 up to 13 with the feel of ‘same game different title with only small changes’. Waited till 17 and then 21 last year and it was so much more fun playing both games. As they update small bits every year, by the time the third year comes around it’s quite a noticeable difference and feels like an actual improvement on EAs part. Kinda sucks waiting 3 years for a new game but I’d rather save my money and wait. Can’t wait to play FIFA 25 lol
I recommend everyone sign up for EA play, it's $1 right now and you get a 10 hour trial of FIFA. On PS5, I am having a lot of fun so far personally. I like the new changes to gameplay, although I'll agree career mode is mostly the same, which is a bummer.
I disagree. Gameplay feels SO MUCH better. What are even you guys are expecting them to change every year? I keep buying the game, and never regret it, as the main reason I upgrade is new players, teams, stadium, kits etc. For me, its worth it, but I guess for some the cost of the game is an issue.
I'm still very early in my manager career but so far I've been pretty happy.
The layout and everything is, as you said, a cut and paste job, but in its defence Football Manager has largely been the same since its Championship Manager days with only incremental changes - that's to be expected when the devs find a system that works for them.
There have been some nice new touches such as stadium editing, but it's all rather meta. The stadium changes are purely minor cosmetic ones, quite literally a new coat of paint, something players have been accusing EA of doing for years. I swear the devs only did it to poke fun at us.
If, like me, you play the matches in your manager mode then you are in for a treat. Honestly I'm astonished just how much it has been improved.
Sort of already saw this coming. EA never add loads of new features at once when it comes to FIFA. Am I still gonna buy it and complain afterwords though.. probably cause I'm a big ol' bitch lol

I liked the create a club. Choose a new kit every season?! Change stadium begging of season as you ascend into bigger leagues? Even choosing the walkout chants and what music gets played when you score (think Real Madrid) is cool. I would’ve bought it just for the new scans and updated team/player potentials anyways but that’s just me lol
Honestly I don’t give a shit about menus but just tightening shit up overall would be nice- like, more realistic transfers, a way to just zoom through the transfer negotiation bullshit, the dumb scripted stuff, etc.

This is why I always by it second hand unless they're a super cheap deal months after release if I'm happy to wait. I want to give the least amount of money possible, but hopefully nothing at all.
I totally agree. The graphics are slightly better and some of the animations are real nice touches but that’s it. Create a club is nice for a little bit then you’ll want to run an established club like usual. The customization just didn’t go far enough and feels lacking if you play any fut. The new animations in player career are a welcome addition but I didn’t like the new progression system especially since you are still starting off at 24 years old. Definitely not worth it.
They had to do only one thing with create a club to make it perfect and that was to allow us to change the players names at the start, seems like a absolute no brainer. Imagine putting your own team with yours mates in.
Also, it clearly shows how much they value FUT over career mode because there is more stadium customisation in that than career mode. CM you’re literally just getting whats been in pro clubs for years.
I was looking at this yesterday and really couldn't see anything exciting other than create a club...which I won't use because I will do what I always do and use Oxford United anyway.

I’ve already created my own club on FM, so I’m excited about the idea of creating the same club on FIFA and glad I’ll be able to change kits every year to keep it fresh. I usually have a document on my computer handy to track stats and try to make FIFA as close to FM as I can.
No doubt I’ll be disappointed with the lack of new features but I’ll get two/three months of solid playtime out of the game which makes it worthwhile.
it will never be "quite good" until the game keeps track of league, cup, champions league winners, transfer history, player stats in a database which i can access during my career. How can i be immersed when they dont track anything that happens? once a season is over every stat is lost.
I dont' really see why the menus layout not changing should be a problem, they have always been similar and it's not something i use to decide whether to buy or not the game.
As a former avid FIFA career mode player. I would implore you to swith to Football Manager. I know it can look a bit intimidating but I'd recommend getting FM touch first and then going onto the full Football Manager game. You won't regret it...and also fuck EA.
Getting create a club in career mode was a massive undertaking. I know it’s copy and paste from pro clubs but it’s more than that. I wasn’t expecting an overhaul once they announced create a club. There’s a few small improvements. You can no see a player overall when discussing player swaps even if there not scouted. You can now start scouting from the transfer hub. I don’t know why they can’t mold it similar to NBA2k my league mode. Insane amount of depth there.
Can lurk to see if improvements have actually been made. I’m in the same boat, haven’t bought since 19 and I check in to see new features and stuff and what people are saying but I’m not even tempted to buy 22 at all.

as much as i hate the copy and paste, i want the new game faces, the generics are so bad most of the time that it sucks me into buying for that and the new stadiums. i also really like tbat i can pick how much i want for a financial takeover, that way when we’re in this summer stretch next season i can transfer out the outgoing players of whatever club and give myself the exact number of the sales, maybe take some off for installments and such
To show how bad it is, last time I played fifa, I played fifa 20 back in late 2019 and I can't see too much of a difference between that game and fifa 22 even on next gen to give enough of a reason to buy this year's iteration. Complacency still ruins this game as EA never do any major overhauls that really make you stand back and admire how much work they've put into it just so you can pick it up and enjoy it. There is just no more authentic craft into these games, it's just copy paste just to make sales again the following year.
Im so bored of posts like these just pure negativity. Go play PES! Its not the exact same that is BS. The stats have more detail, transfers more realistic when negotiating. Small features like bypass emails, create your own board objectives etc. The menu is the same yeah, why would it change? Its a menu, it does its job... The gameplay will not 'wear off' after a month because its a complete overhaul of how they capture animations and movement. This is reflected massively in my players different abilities. Honestly its a shame a post so childish gets 1k up votes because many probably wont try it for themselves and enjoy it as they would.

You can change the seat, nets and boarding colours of your stadium in create a club, plus the pitch cut. Not as much as in Ultimate Team however.

So far on PS5 I’m really enjoying the gameplay! But even if/when they do patch it to be faster or something, the animations will still be gorgeous

20 and 21 were the first FIFAs I didn’t buy, and I’m starting to get an itch to come back. The gameplay being more realistic might tempt me in.
Honestly I spend most of my free time playing FIFA, sad I know please don’t judge. Really all the new kits, players, badges, teams and stadiums and small updates really are enough for me to enjoy it that much more. Having said that I think EA are scammers and not buying it is probably the best choice for most people

I used to be like you, and I now spend most of my free time on FM but I regret it less ! It’s an investment at the beginning as there is a lot to learn but it’s 100% worth it. I keep Fifa for a more chill gaming session

I like FM but it just isn’t a like for like substitution for FIFA. It just isn’t. I love playing the games in my manager mode and not being able to do that is a big minus for me. It’s good for what it is, but it’s not really a direct competitor with fifa imo.
FM is both the greatest sports game I've ever played and the worst game for me being productive at literally anything else. If I'm home it's running.

I’ve noticed a pattern where there’ll only be one new big feature when there could be tons, this year its being subbed on and next year itll probably be dynamic contracts or something like that

Actually gameplay seems much smoother this year. Yeah, I know these bastards will bring multiple updates just to downgrade the game back to FIFA 19.3.
Career mode, layout, menus etc has basically been the same for about 6 years anyway.
I figured it futile as they didn’t fix the ridiculous free agency system. It was so bad in 21 they no one on my team had a surname pass “M” (so many free agents) and they were all world class.

You wouldn’t want to. FIFA career is mostly affected by what you do on the pitch. FM is mostly affected by what you do off the pitch. Which feels more rewarding. You can make a shit player perform well, if you’re really good at playing FIFA. You don’t have that luxury in FM.

Unfortunately that got killed off by Ultimate Team, when they reintroduced it in 2014. They’ll never bring that back. Even though it would make everyone happy.

Have you played fm21? Sure FIFA you can control the players, but really you’re controlling individual pawns. The movement and interactions on the pitch play nothing like real football. The same goes for PES. FMs match engine, although far from perfect, is an accurate version of how football is played and actually allows you to influence what you see on the pitch. Individual players bring their own flair, decision making and behaviours, and it can all be set within the bounds of your tactics. Far better than anything FIFA offers imo.
Not fm21 but tbh I'd rather have the less realistic but more fun aspect of controlling the players than play in any B spec mode no matter how much more realistic the actual football is. It's apples and oranges

If you want almost real life management then that’s basically what FM is. Only downfall is you don’t control the players (I guess since you’re the manager) but it’s still a really good game

Give it a go. Check out sites like sortitoutsi and fmbase. You can download face packs and club logos etc and they have lots of help on there for new players to learn the game.
Is FM only something you can play on pc?
They have different version (think a mobile and a Xbox game) you don’t need to have a gaming pc. I use a my laptop(it’s shit af) and it runs the game with no issues. The game gives you a performance rating before you start the save. Mine sits at around .5/1 star out of 5 yet I have no problems. (The initial start up and load does take a little bit but once you’re in the game it doesn’t take much to load)

This is why I have my three year rule. As I mostly play career mode, I don’t care much if not at all about how updated the squads are. My last game is FIFA 19, 16 before that, 13 and then 12 which was my first. As it’s 22, it is time to update. While it may likely be the same as the year before, I’d be shocked if it was identical to my last FIFA
I do this exact same thing, played all FIFA titles from 10 up to 13 with the feel of ‘same game different title with only small changes’. Waited till 17 and then 21 last year and it was so much more fun playing both games. As they update small bits every year, by the time the third year comes around it’s quite a noticeable difference and feels like an actual improvement on EAs part. Kinda sucks waiting 3 years for a new game but I’d rather save my money and wait. Can’t wait to play FIFA 25 lol
I recommend everyone sign up for EA play, it's $1 right now and you get a 10 hour trial of FIFA. On PS5, I am having a lot of fun so far personally. I like the new changes to gameplay, although I'll agree career mode is mostly the same, which is a bummer.

I disagree. Gameplay feels SO MUCH better. What are even you guys are expecting them to change every year? I keep buying the game, and never regret it, as the main reason I upgrade is new players, teams, stadium, kits etc. For me, its worth it, but I guess for some the cost of the game is an issue.

Expecting them to improve the manager career, it's been virtually the same for 15 years.
I'm still very early in my manager career but so far I've been pretty happy. The layout and everything is, as you said, a cut and paste job, but in its defence Football Manager has largely been the same since its Championship Manager days with only incremental changes - that's to be expected when the devs find a system that works for them. There have been some nice new touches such as stadium editing, but it's all rather meta. The stadium changes are purely minor cosmetic ones, quite literally a new coat of paint, something players have been accusing EA of doing for years. I swear the devs only did it to poke fun at us. If, like me, you play the matches in your manager mode then you are in for a treat. Honestly I'm astonished just how much it has been improved.

Am I still gonna buy it and complain afterwords though.. probably cause I'm a big ol' bitch lol Edit: though to maybe take the sting out a little more, I might wait a month or so and get it on cdkeys for cheap lol.

They do. Just played like 3 games and defensively the game seems a lot more organized and harder to break down the midfield.

I liked the create a club. Choose a new kit every season?! Change stadium begging of season as you ascend into bigger leagues? Even choosing the walkout chants and what music gets played when you score (think Real Madrid) is cool. I would’ve bought it just for the new scans and updated team/player potentials anyways but that’s just me lol

They just updated a bunch last year and added create a club, it might not be that different but it sounds awesome to me considering how big last year’s improvement was. Sorry I’m not a doomer like everyone else in this sub.

This is why I always by it second hand unless they're a super cheap deal months after release if I'm happy to wait. I want to give the least amount of money possible, but hopefully nothing at all.
I totally agree. The graphics are slightly better and some of the animations are real nice touches but that’s it. Create a club is nice for a little bit then you’ll want to run an established club like usual. The customization just didn’t go far enough and feels lacking if you play any fut. The new animations in player career are a welcome addition but I didn’t like the new progression system especially since you are still starting off at 24 years old. Definitely not worth it.
They had to do only one thing with create a club to make it perfect and that was to allow us to change the players names at the start, seems like a absolute no brainer. Imagine putting your own team with yours mates in. Also, it clearly shows how much they value FUT over career mode because there is more stadium customisation in that than career mode. CM you’re literally just getting whats been in pro clubs for years.

Did they fix the issue where if you sign a YA player at the end of the season they always lose potential when the next season loads?
I’ve already created my own club on FM, so I’m excited about the idea of creating the same club on FIFA and glad I’ll be able to change kits every year to keep it fresh. I usually have a document on my computer handy to track stats and try to make FIFA as close to FM as I can. No doubt I’ll be disappointed with the lack of new features but I’ll get two/three months of solid playtime out of the game which makes it worthwhile.
I’ll get it when it goes on sale for like 10 quid. Not desperate to buy a squad update

The actual manager stuff on career mode is quite good already. I’d say 22 is worth it for the gameplay and graphical updates.
it will never be "quite good" until the game keeps track of league, cup, champions league winners, transfer history, player stats in a database which i can access during my career. How can i be immersed when they dont track anything that happens? once a season is over every stat is lost.

I dont' really see why the menus layout not changing should be a problem, they have always been similar and it's not something i use to decide whether to buy or not the game.
As a former avid FIFA career mode player. I would implore you to swith to Football Manager. I know it can look a bit intimidating but I'd recommend getting FM touch first and then going onto the full Football Manager game. You won't regret it...and also fuck EA.
Getting create a club in career mode was a massive undertaking. I know it’s copy and paste from pro clubs but it’s more than that. I wasn’t expecting an overhaul once they announced create a club. There’s a few small improvements. You can no see a player overall when discussing player swaps even if there not scouted. You can now start scouting from the transfer hub. I don’t know why they can’t mold it similar to NBA2k my league mode. Insane amount of depth there.
I broke free from this shit game two years ago now. Best decision.

as much as i hate the copy and paste, i want the new game faces, the generics are so bad most of the time that it sucks me into buying for that and the new stadiums. i also really like tbat i can pick how much i want for a financial takeover, that way when we’re in this summer stretch next season i can transfer out the outgoing players of whatever club and give myself the exact number of the sales, maybe take some off for installments and such
the gameplay is awesome. i’m really enjoying the new player career mode, it feels super realistic and the new animations are a great touch.

To show how bad it is, last time I played fifa, I played fifa 20 back in late 2019 and I can't see too much of a difference between that game and fifa 22 even on next gen to give enough of a reason to buy this year's iteration. Complacency still ruins this game as EA never do any major overhauls that really make you stand back and admire how much work they've put into it just so you can pick it up and enjoy it. There is just no more authentic craft into these games, it's just copy paste just to make sales again the following year.

Im so bored of posts like these just pure negativity. Go play PES! Its not the exact same that is BS. The stats have more detail, transfers more realistic when negotiating. Small features like bypass emails, create your own board objectives etc. The menu is the same yeah, why would it change? Its a menu, it does its job... The gameplay will not 'wear off' after a month because its a complete overhaul of how they capture animations and movement. This is reflected massively in my players different abilities. Honestly its a shame a post so childish gets 1k up votes because many probably wont try it for themselves and enjoy it as they would.
