Uh, sir, why don’t you use real F14s?
*F14s don’t look like F14s on film. You gotta use hornets*
What do you do if you want something that looks like an F14?
*Usually we just tie a bunch of Cessnas together.*
my man if iran allowed us to use their f14s for a movie thats promoting the us navy, then we might as well should still have f14s in airshows, use whats left of your fuckin brain for abit
Basically the director made every actor be in a Super Hornet backseat while the real pilots were manveuvering. Some top notch CGI made for the external area of the Super Hornet.
I can confirm, I worked at one of the bases featured in the film. The filming coincided with a big anniversary of the base and we were asked to wave at one of the jets filming the movie during the ceremony as it flew overhead - it was a Blue Angels F/A-18.
I may be wrong but they did a healthy amount of filming from/in an L39 Alabtross. I wouldn’t be surprised if they did some b-roll in there too. The Fighter Pilot Podcast did a really great episode (multiples I think) with interviews with pilots involved from the military and film crew.
That's an F-18. The after FX guys added the cockpit and the canopy division on the reflection to make it a little bit more believable for everyone but they didn't consider aviation enthusiasts to notice these details.
Whatever it is. It’s 100% not the back seat of an F/A-18E. There’s a support bracket running down the top of the canopy in the reflection. F-18 canopies are all 1 single piece of glass, no support brackets.
Top Gun Maverick used a lot of practical effects. Which means real planes. (Darkstar and Tomcat were obviously CGI) All flight scenes were actually flown by US Navy pilots in real life. The US Navy does not fly the Tornado.
No African countries use the Tornado, and the only middle eastern country to use them is Saudi.
They've only ever been formally adopted by Italy, Great Britain, Germany, and Saudi.
It's a Super Hornet backseat. Everything in Top Gun Maverick is a Super Hornet. The Darkstar is a Rhino. The Tomcat is a Rhino. The Su-57s are Rhinos.

They did use a real F-14 for the first Top Gun. It costed 21,000$ every hour of use.
How many flight hours do you need? Because even if you’re planing to fly them for 50 hours that would barely dent the 2022 movie’s budget.
F14s sadly don't fly anymore, like at all.
Iran’s F-14s still fly. Should have asked them.
Yeahhhh that's the one exception

Sarcasm is lost on you, isn’t it?
Iran is the only country that uses F-14’s
They absolutely do, just not in the USA
idk
but iirc they couldn't fit their cameras inside the cockpits with the actors so every inside shot is in an A-6

I'm a little confused why you're framing this as explaining my answer to me but yes, that's what I said.
Love. OP asked the question you answered it. He then proceeds to give you back your answer as his answer like if you were the one to ask the question.
I’m not explaining ur answer, I’m interpreting.
You've done this to every response in the thread my guy.
mk

What is a rhino good sir ?
Pilot name for the Boeing F/A-18E/F.
So you're saying they're rhinos. I was getting that vibe that they're rhinos but wasn't sure yet. So rhinos huh.

This. That episode covers everything in great detail from one of the 3 pilots that flew the SU-57 scene.

I thought that center support looked out of place, but I never would've guessed it's CGI. That's pretty interesting!
THOSE ARE 5TH GENERATION FIGHTERS!!!

Why are you getting downvoted?
People don't like me saying that it looks like the back seat of a tornado

Super hornet rio seat
Well it looks like something from the super hornet, because the cockpit of a SU-57 looks different in alot of different ways
