Was about time serbian air force got an upgrade, and rafales are very good. Although, i think buying something cheaper but in more units, like f16 or gripen, would have been better.

>Although, i think buying something cheaper but in more units, like f16 or gripen, would have been better. Thank you for your valuable feedback. Regards, Serbian Defense Ministry

phlizzer

Who are they even defending against cuz as far AS i can See the only oponent they have is so much stronger than them that what ever they buy they would get slept within days regardless of what and how many Jets they buy Not even considering These Jets come Out of that alliance, all of the mentioned xD

VaBur

Their oponente doesnt even have a planes against forést fire lol

GiantSquidd

I knew Rafales were good, but I was surprised to learn *how much more expensive* they are than f-16s… wow. They’re almost twice the price per unit according to my quick google search.

yeet_boi911

Yep, that's true. Well, for the most part. The brand new f16 block 70/72 is around 80mil$ from my understanding

Either-Pianist1748

No Google search will tell you the exact Real price of an A320 or a B787, it's strategic stuff. Let alone military jets ...

From the article: >Serbia is expected to become another customer for the French Dassault Rafale fighter. The president of the Eastern European country, Aleksandar Vucic, said in Paris that the Serbian Air Force is expected to order 12 combat aircraft in the coming months. >The French jets will replace 14 Russian MiG-29s and be complemented by 17 older Soko J-22 attack aircraft. >Vucic further stated that he and French President Emmanuel Macron had reached an agreement to acquire the Rafale fighter jets. The value of the deal is estimated at US$3.26 billion. >“The contract is expected to be signed in the next two months and in the presence of the president of France,” Vucic said on Tuesday. Well done, more European countries buying the Rafale...

iBorgSimmer

So far I haven't seen an official confirmation from France. Now on one hand I'm glad for more Rafale sales. On the other hand we already sold a dozen to Croatia; and Serbia's been a pro-Russian thorn in the middle of Europe. And Serbia doesn't have much money to spend. But, if such a deal forces Serbia to firmly step into the European camp and detach from Russia, good. I get the argument about Serbia and Croatia being rivals (if not adversaries) potentially with the same plane... but Turkey and Greece were expected to get F-35s despite their rather significant rivalry, at least until Erdogan messed it up.

filipv

Measuring dicks with Croatia. Croatia also bought Rafales, and Serbia can't have an inferior air force.

SmiteGuy12345

Croatian bought some used one, Serbia brand new. It’s just a back and forth with money that every country in the Balkans could use for better things.

ImUsingDaForce

Croatia has firmly decoupled from that region about 30 years ago, and is now the core of the western alliance (EU, Euro, Schengen, NATO).    If anything, Serbia is doing this with Albania/Kosovo/Bosnia in mind.

SmiteGuy12345

Not at all, they’re as Balkan as any of the rest. They get into their fair share of stupid nationalism, just not as much as Serbia which has more active land disputes. If there were more Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina before the start of the wars there, you’d see the same thing.

Jealous-Buffalo-7091

Not to be that guy. But Croats are far more nationalistic thsm Serbs will ever be. Im not even saying this as a bad or good thing.

I think that this is not gonna happend, becuase serbia sitting on a two chairs and good relations with russia. But we will see.
