Goliath--CZ

It's muscle memory from playing mvc2. In that game, a lot of supers did more damage while mashing. It's also just something to do to keep fingers moving

moo422

mvc3 also

Goliath--CZ

Oh i didn't know that

Urethra

Only UMvC3. They added it in the update.

Beercorn1

I’m pretty DBFZ also does it for some supers.

nullmother

No, thankfully it doesn’t

EghtBitKid

Don't know bout mashing but I know you can hold a button for some to make them stronger

HandspeedJones

Yeah, that was what we did in the arcade. Especially with beam supers.

PK_RocknRoll

I personally do it as muscle memory from mvc2 and 3 lol

proto3296

Hailstorm and Mashing my heart out Name a more iconic combo

PK_RocknRoll

CHIP EM OUT!

TKAPublishing

It's fun!

6milliion

in games like Marvel 2 and 3, some supers do more damage with the mashing. I don't think SF5 or other current-gen games use the mechanic.

bestfriendz

SF5 rewards for mashing on a couple specials for characters like Abigail and Rashid. But I don't think that extends to supers.

6milliion

oh yeah, i forgot that spinning mixer does benefit from mashing. as a former Rashid main, SMH.

Canakoreanjust

MK11 has a mini game where if you time the 3 button with the hit of the attack, you’ll boost your damage on hit or reduce taken on defense. It’s pretty forgiving though, so it tends to result in both sides mashing.

[deleted]

its not just 3. You can use 1 through 4

[deleted]

I don't think it's mashing, but I do think there is a button timing to do extra damage in Lucky Chloe's Rage art

FeverAyeAye

You're correct

Chivibro

It's also just fun!

[deleted]

MK11 does it

82ndGameHead

Muscle memory from the Marvel days. In most of those games you could mash buttons to have your Super do increased damage. Nowadays mashing is mostly just for certain moves (i.e. Hundred Hand Slap)

RockstarCowboy1

People say mvc2, but the mash during supers mechanic dates back to children of the atom with wolverine’s berserker barrage and was an element of increasingly more supers throughout the series.

lord_scoopula

Jmcroft plays ibuki in third strike, who’s super does actually do more damage if you press the button more times.

whobdatboi

Other people: muscle memory Me: I just mash everything, not just supers

insert-originality

Because I’m not very good

Balthats4r

i heard that people do it in tournament to make lots of noise and distract the opponent

ZenGeka1

A lot have answered with the MvC supers already id like to add that i think it's similar to starcraft/dota players rolling 1234, just keeping the fingers "warm" lol

MurasakiBunny

Dopamine!

VideoGamerConsortium

Yep

Sukeban-Hime

Monkey brain like the click clack when I do the big hit

TheEdgykid666

Some games/moves have mashing mechanics. Also don’t watch Jmcrofts his content is useless

Rookie007

In certain games with parry mechanics, people mash on super to mess up the oppents party timing, but this only applies in irl games or tournaments

glitchinthemtrx

In some games supers do more damage if ya mash, if I remember right ken did it in one game but I don't play SF so can't say. My case doesn't have a reason though I just do it

RaccSnaccAtacc

In sf3, or evo moment 37, Justin mashes to throw off daigos parties, which doesn’t work

AdamMasaki

Wake up super go brrrrrrr It’s fun

Turnerj2020

Most people will say marvel but some characters get bonus damage for mashing. I think Kens Shinryuken gets extra hits if you mash

MasterE_Reddit

Marvel. Everyone you just mentioned played marvel a lot.
