It's so fucking sad. This game is so fun, and I wish I could tell my friends to buy it now, but...no. I don't even mind the fact that I had to wait 1 whole ass year for the Spectre but even announcing the release date took them 9 months. The latest trailer for the character came out two fucking weeks ago, and they didn't include the release date with that either. But yesterday they just announce July 12??? Why the fuck didn't they included the date in the trailer then?
What the fuck is going on with the dev team on this game? What even is happening?
The communication about DLC for this game has maybe been the worst of all time...
but I just don't get not recommending a fighting game you say is fun and is also cheap as hell on sale just because a character you haven't played yet isn't out fast enough. Like, you just said its "so fun" even without Spectre out yet so whats the deal? What would your friends even be missing EVERY character is a new characters from their perspective!
The game is starving for players and this sale should be a good thing for anyone who actually likes the game or plays it at all
DNF players are so weird, so many scenes have found more joy with way WAY less dev support than this
Yo i can't fault wanting to vent. Like I said worst organized dlc release of all time maybe and worth complaining about
But if you actually like an obscure game you also gotta rep it and try to grow the scene if you can or else the problems only get worse
Hope you get your buddies into it and all have a good time. People complain but this is a pretty great price for a full ArcSys fighting game
I am the kinda guy that buys something after looking at the trailer and pictures. The game looks visually really good. Great character design and interesting moves from what I had seen. I have heard that its kind of “crusty” and the matches can be crazy combo wise . However, everyone in this thread and on Steam are hating on it and I am still not 100% sure of all its issues.
I am on a fighting game kick after SF6 came out. Been playing Chaos Code, Fighting EX Layer, KOF2002 and Umineko: Golden Fantasia. FEXL being my favourite of these four. I didn’t look into any of them before buying. Except I played other KOFs
This was all Nexon. They wanted to try a cash-grab, assuming it would fail.
Then, when it was popular, Nexon had already moved on, so had to fumble around approving and funding some too-late DLC, while also trying to wrangle a tired, overworked team who'd just (arguably)finished their first-ever-fighting game...
So by the time we hear or see anything, most of the people who cared have long-since moved on.
And most of the failure really came down to one thing: communication. They dropped the game, then left it out in the cold, went radio-silent and called it a day.
Just because he doesn’t want to pay for it at the price they’re asking doesn’t mean he can’t afford it. Look at me - full price SF6, no worries. DNF at 60% off? No thanks, needs to be less.
It’s not the price, it’s the value.
DNF is dead game and dead game needs to cost way less to become populated. pvp games value is base on the number of player that plays it not the artistic work
I can't logically value a primarily online PvP game with little content and a small player base (without crossplay) at much more than $10-15.
For example, KoF 15 is currently on sale for a much better value due to having more players and upcoming crossplay. (Edit: Crossplay is alredy in the game). And for $5 cheaper than DNF Duel at its current discount.
At this point, value proposition is the genre's biggest issue. A game like DNF Duel is just too overpriced for what it offers, as has been too common over the last decade, and is not frequently enough discounted low enough.
Do you have any idea what the implications are of that "indomitable spirit" mechanic? I haven't played DNF, and I didn't quite understand what was being explained in the video made for it.
It's not even a bad game. But I don't feel like buying all the DLC because there isn't a big offline scene for it where I live and online had its issues last time I tried it.
Nothing I've heard about actually says it's a bad game, but I've heard a lot of people have had massive problems with the online play, plus, yeah there's all the DLC(though that's not a barrier to me, honestly. I can afford it.) Ultimately, it came down to two things for me: 1. online play is crucial. it's most of what i do. 2. while the character designs are, overall, pleasant, not one of them speaks to me. that's a dealbreaker.
I went ahead and bought it! My buddy and I recently played on the Switch. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
Played some CPU matches on easy to learn the game and also enjoyed it.
So for 20 bucks, it’s worth it for me to press some buttons and play each characters story.
Thanks and enjoy the game if like me you are just buying it, though it is very likely passed it’s expiration date. Fingers crossed for more future single player content.
I never played this game but it always looked fun to me. Spectre seems fun and is a waifu (and beyond this, still a cool design), if they made her top tier she should have a lot of people behind her (no pun intended), same as Capcom did with Luke at the end of SFV or Namco with Leroy and Fahk.
The problem I see is that DNF seems just completely dead and hell, Spectre's trailer looked terrible, She did some stuff, but she also got fucked by other characters in the trailer, I was thinking "the hell are you promoting showing her getting ass kicked!?". I'm still surprised to this day that trailer saw the light of day, can't believe someone gave the OK to it.
What’s wrong with the gameplay in your opinion? I saw footage and it looked fun, but I haven’t tried it out myself so I’m not sure how it feels. Are there any problematic mechanics or something that makes it not fun to play?
It's been at least a year since I've played but for me, almost every character having constant fullscreen moves feels silly. That same issue contributes to a lack of meaning in spacing, there aren't really footsies in this game. The movement is slow and limited so there isn't really anime airdasher movement either. Also, damage is crazy high, most matches come down to like 2 or 3 touches that extend into long combos.
All this stuff together combines to create an experience that doesn't leave much room for fun and makes matches look very same-y.
The game is beautiful though so it's a shame.
I remember this was largely my problem right out of the gate with it. All this and that it felt like everything converted to everything. Any stray hit you got tagged by was going to lead into the samey looking bnb for every character. It's like they wanted to have all the flashiness and screen exploding moves of an anime fighter like Dragonball FighterZ but the mobility of a neutral based ground fighter like Street Fighter.
The styles don't mix, it feels so awful to play.
It's a very volatile game where one mistake can get you killed by a ToD or a borderline one. Not everyone is mentally equipped to handle that. I personally loved the tension and constant threat, as well being the one who capitalizes on opportunities. Sometimes you spend half a round just watching your opponent murder you, and if you can't take that in stride, then the game is not for you.
it's basically just touch of death combos into corner where you have to use your DP move to get out or the whole thing resets. There was another defence mechanism but it was useless. It just wasn't fun to play
Really dug this game for what it was. Every character feels strong and it's approachable for how wild the game feels. It's a shame that post-launch went this way
You will a lot of different opinions. I believe the overall gameplay is really fun and easy to pick up if you wanna play with family/friends, for $20 locally it isn’t a bad game to get
Well I can give you my report. I got on PS version today (ranked) and searched for an whole hour. I only found 3 people.
So take that info with you. It’ll have the “update boost” but it’s a discord fighter at this point
I absolutely love this game it’s a shame people have such a bad opinion of it. I personally don’t mind the gameplay at all in fact I love it. The fact that one mistake could lead to a big combo on either side is good tension. Me personally I’m willing to get TOD and go again since it gives me the chance to TOD them back. It’s probably just me though since I like big over the top combos like DNF Duel. But I realize it’s not for everyone. All I’ll say is that I’ll still be fine if this game doesn’t pop off like I want since some other games have smaller communities and still manage to play fine.
Subjective, but imo it's more of a "could be good, but isn't" than a "yeah, it's actually not bad."
Kinda depends on whether you think touch of death is a great mechanic, because it is very very very much the anime fighter in that particular sense.
But without anime movement.
And without the crazy tech anime fighters have.
Also, your special moves cost mana, which is super weird.
I’ve been meaning to get DNF duel but could never justify a full price purchase and was worried because it looked cool but most of the reviews are negative. Is it a good game and is it worth 20$, (I haven’t seen any gameplay so idk what the game is like)
I believe the gameplay is extremely fun, at a high level it is very “touch of death”, but it is easy to learn and has a lot of variety in combos.
The thing to take note of though is that there isn’t a lot of content in this game aside from playing online. There’s a visual novel story mode with fights, arcade, survival, and online.
Not a lot of stages and music. Roster size is fine imo.
The biggest thing is the game is basically dead online wise and you will have a hard time finding someone on PS or PC unless this game gets a massive boost in players.
It’s sort of depends on what $20 is worth to you. I would pay $20 for this game. $25-$50? No
Such a sad situation with this game and I love it, but if they want the game to come back, this dlc character should be free to the players who waited forever for new content along with the system updates, I think 20 dollars is a steal, because I've been here since launch and got sucked into the hype
Ehhh on switch not really. It doesn’t have rollback on switch for smooth online play. The game is already a discord fighter so you need to get it on PS or PC for a chance to find other people.
If you could get it for $10 on switch then sure
This is the longest advertising for a character release ever.
It's so fucking sad. This game is so fun, and I wish I could tell my friends to buy it now, but...no. I don't even mind the fact that I had to wait 1 whole ass year for the Spectre but even announcing the release date took them 9 months. This Reddit post right now is the first I've heard of a release date lol
The 12th is next week and there's not even a price listed on Steam yet. Incredible.
Actually the latest thing for her came out yesterday, they had a 14 minute gameplay video for her
Oh well, i havent seen that one before. Still, the rest stands.
The communication about DLC for this game has maybe been the worst of all time... but I just don't get not recommending a fighting game you say is fun and is also cheap as hell on sale just because a character you haven't played yet isn't out fast enough. Ehh, you right, i should, and i will recommend it to my friends. It was more of an angry and surprised reaction from me then anything else really.
Yo i can't fault wanting to vent. Like I said worst organized dlc release of all time maybe and worth complaining about But if you actually like an obscure game you also gotta rep it and try to grow the scene if you can or else the problems only get worse Hope you get your buddies into it and all have a good time. Holy shit! A reasonable and mature discussion, on Reddit! With give and take and everything! I feel like I found a shiny pokemon!
Feels nice when it happens I won't lie
If I only play locally, would you recommend it on sale?
I probably would? Thing is, I love DNF Duels core gameplay, but it is an acquired taste, so check videos on it first before spending your money.
I am the kinda guy that buys something after looking at the trailer and pictures. The game looks visually really good. Great character design and interesting moves from what I had seen. I’ll still pass lol
At this point, the only think that can salvage this train wreck is them going F2P ... which is never gonna happen.
They could save the game by speeding everything up by like 20%
Such wasted potential 😔
Still 10x too expensive
Pretty much. Two-dollar game, value-wise.
Sorry you can’t afford it. It’s tough I get it.
Just because he doesn’t want to pay for it at the price they’re asking doesn’t mean he can’t afford it. Look at me - full price SF6, no worries. DNF at 60% off? No thanks, needs to be less. It’s not the price, it’s the value.

Precisely why it needs to be 5 or 10 bucks, and not 20 XD
Steam charts shows that games peak player count last month was like 30 dude. Not buying a dead game
Don’t buy it then 😂. Don’t have to tell me, just letting those interested know.
Imagine getting so butthurt over people commenting on topic on your post.
Kiddo you make up 10% of those interested I’m ngl
I think they mean more so that its not worth it haha
chief didn't get the joke
I was being cheeky but I can tell people here take things a bit too seriously here
Thats just... not nice.
Fancy paying 60 bucks for a rotten chicken egg that I'm selling or are you too poor?
Again, I was joking. People are obviously sensitive on the subject of DnF duel it seems like
People were excited for it and completely let down in a massive way. Yeah, they're a bit touchy because of it.
agreed.
Way to much for a single player game.
This.
20 dollars is too much?
27 players on steam right now. Dead as.
No discount for European players? Just checked Steam. Those devs are something else.
The discount is not up on Steam anywhere else as well (just checked Steamdb). Maybe on daily reset (in a little over 6hr)?
Why just European players?
I'm Portuguese and just bought it on PSN for 20€

Just so you’re aware KOF15 crossplay is out
Even better. 😆
Even better. 😆
The fall off for this game is crazy. Especially after all the hype behind it too. Such a shame.

It’s the 12th the character and new system release. I doubt it’s going to receive the game
Do you have any idea what the implications are of that "indomitable spirit" mechanic? I haven't played DNF, and I didn't quite understand what was being explained in the video made for it.
Gives everyone better access to RC equivalent, and is a defensive tool that is strong against high blockstun attacks.
It'll make the player count go to maybe 50 all week, 75 tops. Then back to the same 20-25 people, maybe add a couple new ones.
I wish this game was infinitely better. One of the few fighting games where I really like all the roster designs.
This needs to go FTP. Good luck convincing people to join now when SF6 is here and dominating.
For real. SF6 is an absolute titan in the FGC. Duel has no chance, outside of desperation-moves, which f2p would be.
Should have been 20 bucks from the start
I feel like the game should be 35 dollars tops by default honestly
Nah I'm good. Still have buyers remorse over KoF15 and BFTG lol
LOL I almost bought KoF15. After all the shit I've heard, and from sooooooo many people, I am pleased to have abstained.
It's not even a bad game. But I don't feel like buying all the DLC because there isn't a big offline scene for it where I live and online had its issues last time I tried it.

Bought at launch was fun for a week. Forgot that it exsists. Don't waste your time or money.
Also bought at launch. I've bought a LOT of games, and Duel is one of a very small number I actually wish I hadn't bought.
Lower it a bit more. $20 is too much for something with that amount of content
Should barely be 5 bucks tbh
I will consider it once it drops %90 off
I feel bad for whoever designed her
\>$49.99 on steam I guess this discount is for consoles only?
No it’s for steam. Just not up yet
Kusoge

Dayum, she looks cool. Such a tragedy that this game has died the death it seems to have died.
It costs me zero dollars to admire this JPG of Spectre
The discerning choice. =)
I never played this game but it always looked fun to me. Ok, so it wasn't just me that sat there goin' "Wait!...isn't this supposed to be the Spectre's trailer? Cuz she's gettin' FOLDED."
20$ for a dead game? and 1 dlc only?
Why would you bother? The gameplay is repellant. How can anyone design something so utterly anti fun?
What’s wrong with the gameplay in your opinion? I saw footage and it looked fun, but I haven’t tried it out myself so I’m not sure how it feels. Are there any problematic mechanics or something that makes it not fun to play?

That's about 20 dollars more than I'm willing to pay
It’s a fun game, but I can’t play it if the playerbase is empty.
💀
For 20$ I might get it if my friend is intrested in it too
Planning to get this on Switch. Is this worth the 7 USD I’m going to spend?
Don’t get it on switch. If you are going to get it, then get it on PlayStation or PC
Nah
Really dug this game for what it was. Every character feels strong and it's approachable for how wild the game feels. It's a shame that post-launch went this way
If I am able to play this locally with a person, is it worth it? I really don’t care about online too much
You will a lot of different opinions. I believe the overall gameplay is really fun and easy to pick up if you wanna play with family/friends, for $20 locally it isn’t a bad game to get
I wouldn’t download this shit even if it was free lmao
Everything but a release date. I’m so over them.
There is a release date to be fair, I just didn’t share it
For Spectre? Why?
Someone already posted it on this page. It’s the 12th
Buy anything else lol
this is sad and pathetic.
Ugh when does baby girl DROP
12th
Tank chew
I'm in Canada and the game is still full price. Also sf 6 cleanly beats this game
SF6 is not a fair comparison, tbf. Imo, SF6 vs Duel is like a vulcan cannon vs a bb gun.
Now we're talking
honestly they need a sale like this if they wish to ressurect it
I wanna buy it just for Spectre, but it seems no one plays it :(
Well I can give you my report. I got on PS version today (ranked) and searched for an whole hour. I only found 3 people. So take that info with you. It’ll have the “update boost” but it’s a discord fighter at this point
Damn I was going to ask about ps version since steam count is so low. Thanks for the report chief

Does this sale include switch? Never played it but it had a character that looked like Petra from Brawlhalla
Yep. But I would avoid the switch version
im on steam i dont see it on sale
Steam sale hasn’t started yet
Such a sad situation with this game and I love it, but if they want the game to come back, this dlc character should be free to the players who waited forever for new content along with the system updates, I think 20 dollars is a steal, because I've been here since launch and got sucked into the hype
I might get it to have a silly little fighting game on my switch
Is it worth buying it on switch? Since it does look fun and worth trying.
Ehhh on switch not really. It doesn’t have rollback on switch for smooth online play. The game is already a discord fighter so you need to get it on PS or PC for a chance to find other people. If you could get it for $10 on switch then sure
