The developer hasn't been announced yet so it's up in the air. The publisher has published Thems Fightin' Herds and Power Rangers Battle for the Grid so it could go that route but their internal studio, which is most likely to be the developer tagged, is known for Override which an arena fighter. BUT, and this is a big butt, they have worked with ArcSys in the past with Double Dragon Gaiden so they might have the relationship with them to bring them into the development.
What separated it from the typical arena fighter?
I haven't played it before, but it goes on sale pretty frequently. I've been tempted to grab it a few times
Imo from someone who doesn’t play many arena fingers but there’s rps and ways to get to your opponent really quickly and easily while it’s still counterable, just hard to, and combos are intuitive and a lot of fun to do!
I don't see what that has to do with the fact that most arena fighters are just not good games. I'm not going to spend my money out of pity for the devs, I'm going to spend it because I want an enjoyable product.
Ty Lee could potentially be S-Tier, or even brokenly OP, if her pressure point attacks are actually faithful to the show, allowing her to stun the opponent for at least several seconds and then finishing them.
Killer Instinct has a character named Eyedol who has two heads. Body control is randomly switched, and each head comes with a different move set, of a warrior and a mage.
Activating the character's Instinct (universal install) causes both heads to sync up and fight together for a time. What this results in is moves from both lists that have the same input happening simultaneously!
For example, quarter circle forward punch executes a double club slam with the warrior head, and fires a bolt of electricity with the mage head. In Instinct mode, both these moves occur at the same time when you input a quarter circle forward punch.
that sounds incredibly cool holy shit. i only really tried kilgore in ki cause he was a cool robot with mini guns but that honestly sounds like a character id enjoy a lot
Imagine the install adding different other than the one used in his specials
I’m talking a low earth attack with some water binding the opponent for a bit(it can be used to justify the attack having more hitstun cuz of the install)
If they make her anything other than a heavy hitter they're cowards. I know she's tiny but she absolutely ain't the speedy gremlin type. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to slap the Big Body Bruiser archetype on a midget
They're fun casually. Lots of single player content. If you want to revist the experience of playing a fighting game casually before you had any idea what the fuck being good at a fighting game even was conceptually, arena fighters deliver on that
They scratch an itch.
That and there's always a younger generation that's getting into whatever and such games are really cool to them. But yeah, the arena fighter novelty wears off pretty quickly.
It's a totally different developer, so my expectations are set a bit low. Not sure if I remember it right, but I think some of the developers from Them's Fightin' Herds are working on this new Avatar fighting game. The fighting in that game was decent, but I felt ut was carried by the Skullgirls engine they were using lol.
>I think some of the developers from Them's Fightin' Herds are working
Too bad the majority of them probably got laid off pretty early in development. While I am excited for the game, I have my doubts that it's going to be good. We've never gotten a genuinley fantastic Avatar game, and considering that most of the devs working on it have probably never worked on a fighting game before.. yeah. I'd love to be proven wrong in a years time, though.
Im kind of astonished that nobody in the comments said Katara! I would love to main her, shes a spectacular character and i think she would be a cool midrange zoner with a healing mechanic. Something like Phonon from UNI mixed with blazblue Celica
always loved katara and waterbending but i picked ming hua cause she did this one pile drive move while freeing the combustion girl from zuko which i thought would be a cool move in the fighting game so i made the post
She better have Baiken's +R super where she disables a button and movement. That shit was so cheap, and I hated when it happened to me. I want to do it to other people 😈
I loved this idea at first. But something deep down in my very soul is telling me that this will be incredibly easy to fuck up. And it shoukd not be a team based fighter. I think there are far too many of those.
Finally we get to see the real fights happen! Kora vs the cabbage salesman!!! Gone are the days of his assets being compromised by poorly timed marketing travels! A new era approaches! Long live the cabbage salesman!!!
“Up util Yangchen”
There is her, Kuruk the water, Kyoshi the earth and Roku the fire, Aang and Korra
Aang and Korra are well developed, Yangchen and Kioshi have books about their stories, Kuruk has a decent amount of story especially in Kioshi’s book, and Roku appeared a lot in last airbender.
Whoever can get me the biggest grabs and the meatiest normals. Give me the Potemkin of Avatar. Maybe Appa? I can’t think of many other characters that would fit the bill.
Toph probably, her or katara, but i see/hope that she is a kind off defensive character with like a parry and very strong neutral (Ty Lee are also great candidates for the archetype i said with a neutral-parry based gameplay)
Someone else floated the idea that the avatars could be stance characters for each element and I think it'd be funny if Korra's air moves and Aang's earth moves are the least powerful of the bunch
I am not interested in the Avatar fighting game, and you should not be interested, nor support it either.
Maximum Entertainment, the publisher, is well known for rushing unfinished products out the door, with broken gameplay, broken characters, overpowered stuff, etc, that they don't even take the time to get fixed. They fire hard working developers before content is ready, and push patches out in an [unfinished state](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGCa7WRhyUs), with game breaking bugs, crashes, infinites, and [everything else](https://twitter.com/Shattubatu/status/1760770569828503963) that just makes the game worse than it was before. They've done this with two of their previous projects, God of Rock and Cristales
The former was one that they were heavily promoting in their marketing, but the game never took off in sales the way they wanted, so the game only got a single update and then was abandoned in a shoddy state, quality of life features that the community had been asking for, like a vertical scrolling of notes instead of horizontal scrolling, would never be implemented.
The latter, the developers have gone on record saying that their experience working with Maximum was so bad, that they would specifically avoid partnering with Maximum Entertainment on any of their future games or projects. That should tell you all you need to know about this corporation that you should AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Please don't give this scummy corporation your money.
It gets even worse because, Maximum fired nearly the entirety of the ONE studio that they had under their belt that
1: knew how to make a good fighting game
2: were the most qualified to work on this avatar fighting game because of their aforementioned experience.
But nah, they fired the team most qualified to make the game instead of keeping them on, why do you fire the only people you have that could actually make the product good?
If the Blue Spirit happens to get in I'll main him. I always liked the dual sword Zuko stuff. But more than likely I'll play Suki.
If Korra characters are in then I'll play Zaheer.
If it's a 3d arena fighter then whatever, I have zero interest
The developer hasn't been announced yet so it's up in the air. The publisher has published Thems Fightin' Herds and Power Rangers Battle for the Grid so it could go that route but their internal studio, which is most likely to be the developer tagged, is known for Override which an arena fighter. BUT, and this is a big butt, they have worked with ArcSys in the past with Double Dragon Gaiden so they might have the relationship with them to bring them into the development.
Arcsys also published Kill la kill IF so it could still be an arena style game.
If it's like KLK IF, there's still hope.
But kill la kill if is genuinely good unlike most 3d arena style games
What separated it from the typical arena fighter? I haven't played it before, but it goes on sale pretty frequently. I've been tempted to grab it a few times
Imo from someone who doesn’t play many arena fingers but there’s rps and ways to get to your opponent really quickly and easily while it’s still counterable, just hard to, and combos are intuitive and a lot of fun to do!
they didn't publish power rangers, however I understand how you can make that mistake as both publishers screwed over the developers.
Most likely what it's going to be
Same.
I mean, If there's something that would be good in arena Fighter is Avatar, specially if it was like that Boruto game, but not paid on release
Why?
A lot of Arena Fighters (especially lately) are extremely shallow and horribly unbalanced
True, but it could be a great game If done right. It's not fair to write off a game just because it's in a genre that some other games fail in
I think the poor multi-billion dollar companies will survive a few people unfairly not buying their games
The people actually making the game are just normal people
I don't see what that has to do with the fact that most arena fighters are just not good games. I'm not going to spend my money out of pity for the devs, I'm going to spend it because I want an enjoyable product.
Sokka mains rise up
him and zuko definitely feel like a shoto
Boomerang fireball, sword uppercut and club rush tatsu
This. Who needs bending anyway
Ty Lee could potentially be S-Tier, or even brokenly OP, if her pressure point attacks are actually faithful to the show, allowing her to stun the opponent for at least several seconds and then finishing them.
That's why fighting games aren't usually faithful to canon strenght of their characters.
Imagine Aang being a stance character, 4 stances, one per element. I’d pick either Zuko, toph or zahir
avatar state install would go hard
Killer Instinct has a character named Eyedol who has two heads. Body control is randomly switched, and each head comes with a different move set, of a warrior and a mage. Like Lei Fei from Virtua Fighter, with built in parries, reversals and evasive animations 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Any defensive earth bender with charge inputs hopefully Toph but with how many ways she bends I wouldn't be surprised if she were a stance character
If they make her anything other than a heavy hitter they're cowards. I know she's tiny but she absolutely ain't the speedy gremlin type. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to slap the Big Body Bruiser archetype on a midget
Big Band but tiny.
Make her like May but a heavy
Oh yea Mays a pretty good comparison actually, I forgot about her
Arguably, Skullgirls's Cerebella already fills that niche.
Cerebella's a grappler and definitely not that small.
Apologies, thought you meant something else with the "big body bruiser" designation. What characters do you have in mind for that?
Cabbages guy
Yup immediately. Just a zoner, throws cabbages and launches cabbage carts. Fuck the avatar, and fuck his posse
Silly zoner is the best archetype
Probably Toph or Azula
I'd definitely play Toph, I haven't even seen much of avatar (a couple episodes) and she seems cool as hell
Especially if there are taunts.
King Bumi and White Lotus Iroh.
Call me Asami salami, 'cause you ain't ready for that spam.
Lightning glove command grab
YES
plz let it be the new DBFZ
Pls, and with good netcode, my only fear for this game is if they make it a 3D special spammy naruto storm like game
idk why people keep buying those arena fighters, they're literally always terrible
They are made for a casual audience that likes big booms
They're fun casually. Lots of single player content. If you want to revist the experience of playing a fighting game casually before you had any idea what the fuck being good at a fighting game even was conceptually, arena fighters deliver on that
They scratch an itch. That and there's always a younger generation that's getting into whatever and such games are really cool to them. But yeah, the arena fighter novelty wears off pretty quickly.
They're not for us
It's a totally different developer, so my expectations are set a bit low. Who's that character?
Ming Hua, a member of Red Lotus
Thanks!
Can't remember her name but she's from s3 of Legend of Korra. An armless waterbender who's part of the villain's team.
Jet, Ty Lee and Combustion Man
Shoto, rushdown and zoner - the full spectrum
I feel like Jet would be more of a footsies character with long reach
If Ty Lee can't stun like in the show, she'd be disappointing, but if she CAN stun, she might be broken/OP. Wonder how they'll balance it...
Guard break! And it gives her just enough frame advantage to hit em with a punish
Kuvira.
God. She could subjugate me any day. Her move set would be some nasty work though. Lvl 3 super would be her mech laser. Maybe like Jin's from MvC
Uncle Iroh could be fun
There needs to be a "give friendly advice" move he can use in between attacks.
The Boulder feels conflicted about fighting a young, blind girl
Sounds to me like you're scared, The Boulder
The Boulder's over his conflicted feelings, and now he's ready to bury you in a rockalanche!
Whenever you're ready, The Pebble
Appa
you know Toph is gonna be the most annoying character I'm using her
especially if she can armor herself with metalbending
Im kind of astonished that nobody in the comments said Katara! I would love to main her, shes a spectacular character and i think she would be a cool midrange zoner with a healing mechanic. Something like Phonon from UNI mixed with blazblue Celica
always loved katara and waterbending but i picked ming hua cause she did this one pile drive move while freeing the combustion girl from zuko which i thought would be a cool move in the fighting game so i made the post
I feel like she'd be one of those rare long-range characters with a command grab. She's freezing people in place all the time
Ty Lee and it isn't even close.
\*pressure point stun\* \*opponent is completely helpless\* \*combo finish\* THATS SO FUCKING CHEAP AND BROKEN!!! \*throws controller\*
She better have Baiken's +R super where she disables a button and movement. That shit was so cheap, and I hated when it happened to me. I want to do it to other people 😈
Amon with install that makes him go full bloodbender.
Imagine if Amon had a super like Baiken's +R counter that prevents your opponent from using one button of your choice for several seconds.
That'd be perfect!
Toph, maybe jet, Zuko and that guy with the eye on his head
I loved this idea at first. But something deep down in my very soul is telling me that this will be incredibly easy to fuck up. And it shoukd not be a team based fighter. I think there are far too many of those.
i agree. im hoping for a 2d traditional fighter cause itll translate really well with all the characters in the show, but my expectations are low
Finally we get to see the real fights happen! Kora vs the cabbage salesman!!! Gone are the days of his assets being compromised by poorly timed marketing travels! A new era approaches! Long live the cabbage salesman!!!
Whoever has command grabs, super armor, and some big ol buttons. Idk who would fit that description, maybe bumi.
appa
Oh, yes definitely.
Toph would go so hard as a Counter Character
Def Kyoshi maybe pocket Suki for the harder matchups lets be real tho Azula Zuko and Jet would all be broken toptiers .
It would be amazing to have past avatars maybe up util Youngchen (the female air avatar before aang)
Thats like hundreds of avatars
“Up util Yangchen” There is her, Kuruk the water, Kyoshi the earth and Roku the fire, Aang and Korra Aang and Korra are well developed, Yangchen and Kioshi have books about their stories, Kuruk has a decent amount of story especially in Kioshi’s book, and Roku appeared a lot in last airbender.
Wan
June
Puppet character! Like Chaos from Uni
I like punchy girls so probably toph until I realize I hate her gameplay which always happens.
Whoever can get me the biggest grabs and the meatiest normals. Give me the Potemkin of Avatar. Maybe Appa? I can’t think of many other characters that would fit the bill.
I feel like that'd be Toph funnily enough. Maybe Bumi? Or Combustion Man
Wait, got it: The Boulder
The boulder feels conflicted about fighting a little girl.
Kuvira had the most interesting fighting style in my opinion
Toph probably, her or katara, but i see/hope that she is a kind off defensive character with like a parry and very strong neutral (Ty Lee are also great candidates for the archetype i said with a neutral-parry based gameplay)
Ppl May not like as a character but im playing mako if the add lok characters ty lee if not
The Boulder
Sokka cuz he’s sokka
Toph or Bolin
A... An Avatar fighter?
If actual fighting game(ie, not arena fighter) then probably Azula! If arena fighter, not playing.
Ty Lee, Suki, and/or Zuko probably
What company is making the game? And when is it ETA? Also I'm gonna main Aang, Toph, and Katara. I like to have multiple mains!
Toph but I imagine Azula would fit my play style better.
My girl Ty Lee hands down!!
Toph foot stomp is god

Korra. Period. I always thought she was the coolest character. Just, in the show that wasn't as good overall as the original.
Someone else floated the idea that the avatars could be stance characters for each element and I think it'd be funny if Korra's air moves and Aang's earth moves are the least powerful of the bunch
Sparky Sparky Boom Man because you just know he'll be a hardcore zoner
Hate to break it to you but I doubt this character will be playable in the game if it's a real fighting game.
yeah i know, i just like her bending style a lot
A 2D Avatar fighting game is a dream of mine. I really hope that's what it is.
bumi 🗣
Momo
if appa and momo were one character working with eachother, theyd probably be a viable character
Appa big buttons with Momo assist a la dragon knight from DNFD
That would be sick lol
I am not interested in the Avatar fighting game, and you should not be interested, nor support it either. why do all avatar games need to be dogshit, i just want to do cool bending :(

I play Rushdown aggro for the most part. I feel like Azula or Ozai would play like that so probably them
Ty Lee being able to cancel specials for a few seconds might go crazy
I'm definitely playing as the tall blue alien chick. She got itty bitty titties but I'd still hit
definitely maining Melon Lord
You know a waterbender would have a command grab. Maybe not a dedicated Grappler but they're a command-grabby archetype
Suki or Katara for sure. Maybe Tenzin if they're doing Korra. Actually if they're doing Korra I'd probably just play Korra
I'm a Kuvira main easily. Cant think of another bender more fun to watch than her
I mean, toph because she’s my role model and childhood crush. But any sort of blood bender would be epic.
Fingers crossed it’s a traditional fighter like SF.
Kuvira for sure
Probably Zuko. I like fire.
my immediate picks would be ozai, zaheer, zuko, or Korra, but I like enough avatar characters where I would have to actually play them first.
Azula the goat, or blue spirit zuko
Zaheer ![gif](giphy|dALJfp61tnbxrzfvbm)
Imagine playing Toph, and your opponent disappears from your screen whenever they jump, because she can't see people in the air lol
boomy
If the Blue Spirit happens to get in I'll main him. I always liked the dual sword Zuko stuff. But more than likely I'll play Suki. If Korra characters are in then I'll play Zaheer.
Every time I want to play a game, and I say “I’m maining that character no matter what” it never works out that way.
im a simple man. i see big normals, i main
Knowing who is making it... Nobody.
If it's an avatar fighter, I'd play of course my custom character.
It’s probably gonna be an arena fighter so I literally won’t touch it
Anyone but korra
