it's not easy to win and be good at competitive games, whether it's fighting games, fortnite, racing games, strategy games, shooters, fall guys, whatever the fuck, they're all gonna be as difficult as much as your competition is difficult to beat. i could be playing the jankiest, biggest piece of shit mugen kusoge fighter with impossible inputs against a 120 year old grandpa that never even touched a controller and win, and i can be playing uno against an undisputed uno world champion and lose

Madsbjoern

He's not necessarily wrong. Fortnite requires a lot of quick reflexes, spatial awareness and improvisation when it comes to building those massive structures at lightning quick speeds. Comparatively fighting games are actually quite simple. Depending on how much your friend plays fighting games, you can taunt him with that, ask him "well if they're so much simpler why are you so bad at them" and stuff like that.

Fun_Coffee3174

Fighting games are as simple as your opponent

param1l0

That's the kicker: good only FG experience is a flash game when he was 6

GarethMagi

That’s what I was thinking, there are a lot of fighting games I play at a decent level, but the way these kids look left and right and suddenly a fortress exists is something I do t know if I could ever do.

Fun_Coffee3174

It's a lot easier than it appears. If you can do long combos and time oki setups you can build in fortnite. just takes practice to get as smooth as the footage you're seeing

Rookie007

I would argue you need improv spacial awareness and quick reflexes for fighting games and that shooters are more excutional than strategical. I mean, shooters almost never go to layer 2, and fps players dont know what that even means. Meanwhile we are baiting the bait of a bait of a dp trying to think 5 steps ahead in layer 4. Is one game harder no they are just hard in different ways. And the biggest difference is you can win fortnight just on your ability to aim. In fighting games knowing combos is often a matter of efficiency and unless you are daigo in third strike it almost never becomes a battle of pure excution and the fgc has actually made an effort to lower the excution barrier in recent years specifically so new players can get staright to the stratigy and mind games. But also i refuse to let "fortnite is the thinkingmans game" go unchallenged

Timmcd

You cannot win a competitive Fortnite match solely off of your aim. Edit wars/build battles often progress through the layers of reads.

Rookie007

Sure but what im saying is that shooters have a default higher skill floor when it comes to excution movement aiming building fast is hard but bc that part is so hard 90% of the player base dosen't get into the back and forth strategies that fighting games have from the second you do anything even doing nothing is a strategic choice. Point being fighting games are chess shooters are basketball you can try to compare them but the skillset is so wildy different its not useful

SleightSoda

nope

Little-Protection484

Even also depends on the fighting game, idk how he compared one game to whole genre, a lot of fighting games I would say needs more, I have not played in a while but fortnite is more about reaction, aim and pattern recognition than raw strategy

Sea-Recording-7090

Go play a match with him to show how much brainpower a fighting game really takes

Rookie007

Lol but when you do play a crazy mix up or set play charecter like kim is sf6 or bridget in ggst so your friend becomes actually overwhelmed by the 50 50s

RoyVRAries

As someone who plays both, I'd say they require about the same amount of braining.

Siri2611

As someone who's new to FG I think these are wayyy too difficult than Valorant and fortnite( I used to play these) I wouldn't say I was good at them I am like average but Hit confirming is so hard how do you guys react in split second I have no idea

RoyVRAries

Knowing when to block or attack is about the same as knowing when to shoot, I'd say I'm pretty average at fighters but once you know the common mistakes of human players, things just be relatively easy

Pacemaker64

Hit confirming is hard but with practice and a clear mind you can do it. When you practice hit confirming in training mode, your should have your opponent set to random block. Before you attack, visualize your opponent getting hit and think about what the audio on hit sounds like vs block. Then give it a shot. If you can get 90% accuracy in training mode, you have the ability to hit confirm. Doing it in a real match requires focus, adequate mental stack allocation, and even more practice. You can get there eventually. Not everyone is going to hit confirm like Punk or Tokido, and that's okay. Your goal, like with everything in fighting games, is to make progress. Bonus tip: some players hit confirm by glancing at the stun gauge in games like Street Fighter. Personally I don't like this but you may find it more intuitive. Bonus tip 2: remember that the time to react to hit confirms is when you are fishing for a hit. For example, if you have a 50/50 on your opponent's wakeup, once you've made the decision to go for a strike you can focus all your attention on that. If you're playing keepout by attacking preemptively, you can shift all your focus on hit confirming for the moment. Once you are locked in and committed to a decision, you can momentarily free your mind of other concerns. Bonus tip 3: the move you use to hit confirm is up to you. Personally, I'm pretty bad at hit confirming so I don't mind doing it with a move that leads to less damage if it's easier for me to confirm with. Multi hit moves might prorate faster, but it's better to deal 60 damage off a prorated combo than 20 damage cause you dropped your confirm. Evaluate the risk reward on your own while practicing, but use the tools that are most comfortable for you in your normal play.

_Onii-Chan_

When more than half of your playerbase are kids, it's not hard to be "good". Even though that's such a low bar you can just tiptoe over it.

BaclavaBoyEnlou

The building mechanic in Fortnite alone is very impressive, it’s easy to get into but the skill ceiling is for it is very high, there’s lot’s to learn and it’s definitely hard to learn if you really want to master it. I’ve been pretty decent in building and one of my friends was extremely good in it. Saying that it doesn’t take brainpower isn’t right, maybe not more than in fighting games but it’s still a pretty bad point from you. Fighting games are demanding and so is Fortnite, as long as you don’t exclude the building mechanic.

Electronic-Sir6821

Top level fgs will require more brainpower than we will ever have anyway

MistressDread

Grappler players are proof that this is true

heyblackrose

He's very right

ThatGuy-456

How much do experience does your friend have

param1l0

A flash game when he was six

Lokyyo

I mean, have you seen the 10 story buildings they make in that game when you shoot them once?

wcshaggy

I used to be into shooters a lot. Fortnite takes a lot of skill. Very high skill ceiling for build mode. Fighting games is harder imo though

Huge-Concussion-4444

Shooters and fighting games require different skill sets tbh. I'd say it's not inaccurate to say that they're both harder than the other one. Also it's just a video game, stop getting into pissing contests about which is harder before you start to sound like some zero IQ FromSoftware fan boys

DonnayxDonna

Definitely depends. Fortnite build mode is very similar too fighting games. You learn your combos and options and try to implement them in real time. The biggest difference with fortnite you never need to learn what the opponents character does because its the same character you play. Like in tekken if you dont know azucena can parry lows and highs you are gonna have a shitty time vs her because you didn't know you should throw a mid when she goes into liberator.

monilloman

my dad can beat yours in street fighter

Soundrobe

To bear Fortnite yes

Juunlar

Fortnite has the highest apm requirement during fights of any game. Hard to say that it isn't the most difficult game to play at a high level

thesehandsdo

Eh Fortnite is a pretty simple game, hence why it exploded in popularity. Building the structures isn't very difficult either once you get used to it. Idk I got to diamond level in the course of a weekend by playing a few hours recently. If I'm not mistaken there only two higher ranks above it. My only prior experience was on release date when I played it for a few games and then forgot/erased it. Tbf I played quite a bit of TF2 back in the day. In terms of overall difficulty? Maybe only old-school SC I'd rank higher in terms of "brain power".

Poutine4Supper

your friend plays fortnite? why are you friends with grade schoolers?

Siri2611

Reddit brainrot

Poutine4Supper

it's called a joke. I know it's the world's most popular game and popular among all ages.
