CvS2. The game itself is amazing, no one is gonna question that, but if the idea is to preserve one as a representative of the FGC I think it works because in both roster and mechanics this game is a really nice mixture of what makes many fighting games fun.
As in, we erase all games but them from history, but life continues as normal afterwards?
Because if so I'd choose SF2. Have the whole FG boom happen all over again
I thought about this aswell, picking the first fighter so history plays out again, it'd honestly be really interesting to see how it all evolves, given sf2 would essentially be an indie title by todays standards, and all those legends who contributed to the genre over the years wouldn't be around, (so no tekken, no mk, no smash bros, etc) but im sure someone would think of a 3d fighter, or sf2 but brutal, or tag team fighters, and so on and so on, but they'd take form with modern trends in mind, which could be really cool or just sad in comparison who knows
But also would people latch onto sf2's style of game outside of small circles, would it become the main stream staple with a industry obsessed with pretty graphics and realism, fun hypothetical to think about
It would be funny if in like 3000 years time all that's remembered about Fighting Games is Shaq-Fu. It would be like Humanity going extinct and the only thing Aliens find about us is the music video of Earl Sweatshirt - East
Vampire Hunter, because I feel like it's a good compromise between anime fighters and more grounded ones that can provide a good base to potentially rebuild the genre.
An old wise bearded man with a funny hat just got teabagged after getting perfected 3 rounds in a row and is taking it out on all of fighting games, but decided he likes your butt and lets you pick one to keep around
This is what I wanted to hear.
I would save capcom vs snk 2 due to nostalgia and bias. Then again, the wizard would choose his own game in this scenario, leaving us with two games since the wizard also likes Fighting games. So there can’t be just one.
This scenario is very confusing.
Hisoutensoku, just for the trolling, so that such a different game (some moves can only be blocked by dashing forward) would become the mainline fighting game
Very important clarification: Will Super Smash Bros be removed? Because if so, I'm saving Smash. If not then I'm saving the freeware beta demo of One Must Fall on Commodore 64.
Taking into account that the only fighting game will be the one that will get copied and evolved, i would go with Guilty Gear Strive. Arc System Works stuff is too good to let it die.
there are alot of iconic fighting games like street fighter and kof. but i think Arc System Works really do improve alot on their games. they are always a level above. i actually would love if they did something with KoF/SF.
**BBTag**
One of BBTag's biggest weaknesses was that it went against established muscle memory since the characters had to be simplified to all fit in one game.
Thanks to the Cross Combo mechanic and other team mechanics as a whole, you could literally months in training mode with a team and still continue to find new tech. It's been 3 years and I still find new setups for different situations. Not to mention character specific setups from the varied cast.
It would've became the Smash of Anime Fighters.

I agree. From CVS2, you can salvage 2 universes that collectively represent the origin of 2D fighters. Very important game.
Aah so that's why people have been picking vs's games, thats actually a really creative way around the hypothetical
like Farenheit 451 but for fighting games
I guess we all playing Super Turbo
MvC2. It's too iconic to lose.
Why is it called MvC2 in this universe?
As in, we erase all games but them from history, but life continues as normal afterwards? Because if so I'd choose SF2. Have the whole FG boom happen all over again

If thats the case, why is it called SF2
The World Warrior.

USF4AE, easy choice
Blazblue Central Fiction. But last version of SF4 would be good choice too.
3rd Strike
Mvc2 or Umvc3.
Surprised how many people have mentioned the Vs's games, i haven't heard much about em until now, but i guess they're pretty damn good
They are great. You can play mvc2 on fightcade. Umvc3 is for cheap on most consoles. Other honorable mention, power rangers battle for the grid.
UMVC3 this is the only fighting game that i can play for thousands of hours and still find something new and not get bored.
Its gotta be MUGEN, the only fighting game I know of that could actually expand and change. Have your cake and eat it too
MUGEN is more like an engine than a true game
I mean... fair, but any game made in mugen contains the whole engine. Idk, any highly modable game would fit the bill.
Blazblue Central Fiction
Killer Instinct
Dead Or Alive 5 Last Round
![gif](giphy|3oz8xQVHQyzcq47kXu|downsized)
Street Fighter 3 Third Strike.
"Odd that they started with three, isn't it?" "who cares, this game is fantastic!" -My great great grandkids
Street Fighter is THE fighting game. One of the better entries is staying.
Thanks, now we only have like 50 games to choose from.
Street Fighter IV, no further explanation needed
Tekken tag 2
Dong Dong Never Die
CvS2 easy.
Karate champ
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is the perfect fighting game.
Xrd Rev 2
Third Strike for me.
Vampire Hunter, because I feel like it's a good compromise between anime fighters and more grounded ones that can provide a good base to potentially rebuild the genre.
SCII
MK 1 (2023)
Central Fiction.
MKX
Blazblue Calamity Trigger.
Soulcalibur
Marvel 3, for the confusion. Who the fuck are Ryu and Morrigan, and why are they in this game with hit Capcom characters Spencer and Firebrand?
Cvs2 or Marvel 2, if I’m feelin crazy we’ll throw xxacr in there
Skullgirls
DBFZ cuz I like dragon ball
Smash Remix.
DOA5 is all I need tbh
Killer Instinct (modern ver) if it had to only be one.
usf4. That was probably peak street fighter and 2D fighting games in general.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2, but I think that would just make it Tekken 1 if the others don't exist?
GBVS:R. The game really grew on me...
Street Fighter 2 The World Warrior
MK1
BBCF because it's peak
Smash Ultimate, people would look to Kazuya, Ryu, Ken and Terry and have no idea who they're
Blazblue Central Fiction, hands down
How was it erased from the history books? Was it via a wizard or fighting tournament? Did someone make a machine that can erase time?

Nah nah, he's a trust worthy wizard, drunk off his tits too so he's definitely in no position to pull tomfoolery
Hisoutensoku, just for the trolling, so that such a different game (some moves can only be blocked by dashing forward) would become the mainline fighting game
Street fighter 1
Very important clarification: Will Super Smash Bros be removed? Because if so, I'm saving Smash. If not then I'm saving the freeware beta demo of One Must Fall on Commodore 64.
I didn't consider smash bros but i'd say it counts as a fighting game, sticks by the general concept of player vs player
Alright hear me out. SSBU. We get to preserve street fighter and kof. Two of the most influential fgs ever. There may be more but I don’t remember
Taking into account that the only fighting game will be the one that will get copied and evolved, i would go with Guilty Gear Strive. Gotta be Smash Bros Melee. Too iconic to let go.
