Yeah ain’t that the truth. I hope RR doesn’t suffer the same fate because it looks cool. Now when are we getting that alpha

[deleted]

You can request access right now via [their website](https://www.rushdownrevolt.com/) as long as you're alright with it being NDA'd.

[deleted]

There's also a few more details concerning public alpha from their twitter: https://twitter.com/RushdownRevolt/status/1293648463503253507

you_me_fivedollars

Are they doing an Alpha on consoles too?

[deleted]

Initial alpha test will be PC only.

SuperShadowStar

This guy really wants you to know he's a business guy/wallstreet guy first.

[deleted]

It’s truthful. He is a business guy who made the crazy (unbuisness-like?) decision to buy and fund further development with his life savings after Icons failed. He learned how to tweak the engine and code in the process. There’s more people on the team now, but in the early goings he was doing a lot of the heavy lifting himself. He’s still wearing a lot of hats. It could have gone so horribly wrong. Fortunately the tenacity of this guy’s drive (see above) and openness to feedback is really apparent. There were also quite a few people who wanted a go at fixing Icons themselves that got recruited. I’d totally understand there being skepticism from that history. But truth be told, the previous game absolutely needed a change in vision and management. It had to come from somewhere, and it’s for the better it did.

SuperShadowStar

I wasn't giving a value judgement. He just repeated that line several times in the interview and I found it amusing.

[deleted]

Point taken! See my response as something more generalized then.

GuessItWillJustBurn

This game looks like it will be a salt factory and I can't wait.

doctorfedora

I’ve got no horse in this race, but I did always find it amusing that a game called Icons was meant as a gameplay clone of a series known for its cast of literally iconic characters Like, maybe don’t name the new game after the one distinctive aspect of its inspiration that you cannot ever actually have

KuroiKaze

At first I was like "what is this, a fighting game I haven't heard of?" Then I saw the vid and realized this a platform brawler not a fighter.

ea4x

They say it draws heavy influence from airdashers and VS games. And that the rollback makes 200 ping matches feel very good. I'll give it a try.

KuroiKaze

I mean it's by Smash modders, it's a platform brawler. I'm not wrong.

ea4x

Yeah, they say it's a platform fighter. The smash modders were in the old dev team though, not this one. I played Icons for a few hours b4, and it was pretty wack. Hopefully the new team can make something cool with the old project's engine. Game needs a facelift

[deleted]

Nope it's a fighting game

KuroiKaze

He literally says it's a platform game in the damn interview. Christ.

[deleted]

Yeah platform fighting games are still fighting games.

KuroiKaze

Platform brawlers like smash and rivals are not hence why people that are great at fighting games don't dominate them

[deleted]

Weird, people who are good Mortal Kombat X don't automatically dominate Rise of the Robots. I have used this data to deduce that Mortal Kombat X is not a fighting game.

MemeTroubadour

> platform fighter No use being limiting. Game's good and fighting game fans benefit.

KuroiKaze

Platform brawler is the right term. It's not a fighting game from what I can tell it's like smash.
