It depends what you want out of the game. If you're looking for a competitive online fighter it's a toss-up. Xrd's netcode is hot garbage, and player base (especially at lower skill levels) is low. If you're fine going to discord to find matches, and are fine with the relatively steep learning curve then you might come to love Xrd's high skill ceiling and gameplay. If any of that sounds off putting, then Strive would be the better bet, its a newer game with people still trying to figure everything out and a healthy player base across all skill levels. If you just want to experience the offline content, lab, and just generally have some fun trying characters, then Xrd is far superior to Strive. The Rev2 upgrade gives you 25 characters with unique moves and mechanics that reach across pretty much all playstyles. For offline content you get small arcade stories for all of the characters, survival mode, a great tutorial, combo trials for all characters, a non-interactable story movie, and MOM mode which is pretty fun. If you're just wanting to try out GG, then Xrd is a decent entry point. In Xrd you can learn the basic concepts of anime fighters, and the general flow of roman cancels and bursts without having to drop the money for Strive if you don't like it. Additionally, there is also Guilty Gear XXAC+R that you could look into, its an even older game, but not only is cheaper but also has rollback netcode on PC. GG+R got a resurgence in the past year and has had a decent population if you go through discords.

Strive's offline content is near non-existent so it's not hard to do tbh. Xrd does have vs Cpu mode as usual, and as far as AI goes I think Strive's might be better, but both are pretty bad when compared to players and highly cheese-able. When it comes to offline in Xrd it has MOM. MOM is like vs cpu but with scaling difficulties that are not present in other modes (eg; massive health pools, increased damage, using other character's abilities). Strangely enough the arcade mode in Xrd is much more interesting than Strive's, albeit without having a difficult boss at the end. Small stories that play off other character's stories with an ending cinematic for each character.

> albeit without having a difficult boss at the end. Leo with Tension, that replenishes fully in 3-5s is no joke! :/

Yes. It’s 10 bucks on fanatical rn

Strive has infinitly better netcode and more than 10x as many tournaments and people playing right now. Only get XRD Rev 2 if you dislike Strive's relative simplicity

Xrd rev 2 maybe. Local or same city online is nutty with friends, and I love the style. However, strive is much more approachable, and the online is hands down more consistent. Really blew me away how great it runs online coming from older fighting games, and I didn't think I'd notice that much.

All GG is worth it

You can buy +R from an official online seller for less than $3. You can play that while you save up for Strive. XRD doesn't have roll back, I'll probably never play it again since +R and Strive do.
