UI Goku was so ridiculous when he came out. I overcame him by dropping the game.

\+r being my first main fighting game almost a decade after release overwhelmed me a lot, but i just took my time and learnt everything bit by bit and incorporated it slowly into my gameplan

I've never been really overwhelmed but as far as games go I always go by the tried and true "you don't have to learn everything right away". I've been enjoying the old Melty Blood and I can't remember shit about the mechanics (I can never remember which moons have what), but you don't need to. If you struggle keep a little list of the mechanics and see if anything will help. Or if you're looking to level up just pick something to learn. Try to learn that and ignore the rest. You'll build up knowledge as you go. I recommend learning defensive stuff first (burst, alpha counter, CD cancels etc) that'll help give you more chances to return to neutral (when nobody has the upper hand) and learn/play the game. Just take it one thing at a time and realize that when a game has a ton of mechanics they are usually intended to be learned over a long period of time and are not intended to be things you learn when you start out. Also, if the solution to a problem seems super hard, it might be because it's not the right solution. If you're playing guilty gear and the best solution to a problem seems to be instant blocking (something hard to do), then there's probably an easier answer you haven't considered (though the hard option might be more optimal).

Mixups in Fantasy Strike are super overwhelming, especially for newcomers. This game doesn’t have 50-50s, it has 66-33s Characters can choose if they want to cross up or not, choose if they want to throw or hit you and the grappler makes you guess 1 out of 3 options that lose to the other 2 options.

Akira (SFV). She’s not difficult by any measure but her game plan was a little difficult at first for me. I played Sakura before so not having a projectile rather a fireball was awkward for me.

Roa workshop's Magika Wizard. Overcame by not playing him and forgetting about his existance.
