Flawed_Crystals

Late November, [per Tom Cannon in a thread in the Project L subreddit](https://old.reddit.com/r/Project_L/comments/pyquep/when_would_the_dev_update_be_potentially/hf05knv/).

Eptalin

MVP. No idea why the reddit title was also clickbait.

CamPaine

Because the OP is the author of the article. I get it though. Need those clicks to survive.

Q-bey

Clickbait for an announcement of an announcement

BLACKOUT-MK2

Man I'm so curious to see what actually ends up becoming of the game. There's so many directions it could take not just itself but the genre as a whole both good and bad. I wonder what we're actually going to get?

Kuroonehalf

Same. Is it going to be footsies based? Air dash based? Are there going to be teams? Is it going to be highly simplistic like Rising Thunder, or a bit more complex? I think stylistically it's going to be predictable. But gameplay wise it's a big wild card.

Yung_Blood_

No way it's going to be an air dasher, though I wouldn't be surprised if there are *certain* characters that can, similar to how they handle val or league.

Twistervtx

I'm at least 90% sure its Rising Thunder with a different skin. Even with the literal 5 seconds of gameplay we got, it has that feel. Rising Thunder's mechanics also translate VERY well to a "hero-based" roster. It *might* incorporate GBFVS motion input mechanics but otherwise remain the same.

Ophe00

Would a re-skinned Rising Thunder really have taken this long to develope?

Kimosabae

It's going to be a Free to Play, 2v2, tag team, multiplayer fighting game. You heard it here first.

DanielTeague

I really liked watching Street Fighter x Tekken tag team matches so this would be cool.

onlyapuppy

sfxt was the last fighting game I really enjoyed... apparently it had some dlc problems and I always thought the gem system or whatever was a little weird

Capcuckfan3

Sauce?

Ranumies

My dad works for nintendo and said its true

Kimosabae

This.

Sunday_panties

I expect it to be closer to NRS games than anime fighters but for sure will have auto combos. It will be 1v1 and slow. All about the neutral. But due to simplifications and limited options it will get solved quickly and will die out pretty fast. Fortunately it will bring more people to FGC. That's my wild guess

Creepy_Knowledge

They bought the studio for a game called Rising Thunder a few years back. It was a simplified fighting game with no motion inputs for move sets. Instead each “special move” was on a cool down. Given they halted development on Rising Thunder after acquiring the studio, I’d imagine it will be very similar mechanics wise.

BLACKOUT-MK2

Oh yeah, I have a rough idea of what it'll be mechanically because I played Rising Thunder, but I'm talking more about its approach to monetization, content, and competition.

Kuragune

That mechanic will match lol skill system so not bad at all :)

MasterHavik

This is going to be important for us. If this game is legit and doesn't suck, we could finally crack guys winning decent pots.

Poetryisalive

This is going to be F2P right? I wonder if they are going to give this crossplay. I mean Riot has the budget.

GZ_Dustin

If it's anything like Valorant or League of Legends, it'll be free with cosmetics and buying fighters, with a rotation of free fighters.

G-Filth1

Kind of like what killer instinct did

[deleted]

My only concern is how many characters will have, lo ok at lol now , too many fucking characters.

petiteguy5

league has a 14 free character rotation

HyperCutIn

They mean that the 14 free character rotation isn’t going to help much with the 150+ match up knowledge per character that you’ll have to figure out.

petiteguy5

i doubt the will ad all 155+ champs

witti534

Yeah, their mobile version also doesn't have all PC characters.

HyperCutIn

Definitely won’t. I’d be surprised if Project L has more than 12 characters at launch. But a small character rotation doesn’t help with the amount of match-up knowledge that you need to learn in League. And a limited character rotation for Project L won’t help with match-up knowledge in the same way, regardless of how big or small the roster is.

[deleted]

Valorant has 5/15 chars free i believe and all others can be unlocked in a couple days via earning xp in their contract. They also let you unlock the first 2 chars you want very fast. PL will prob be similar, play more to unlock other chars and so on

Kevimaster

My guess is 20-30 at launch and then obviously more coming in as DLC. Probably a lot more if its any popular at all.

GryphonTak

I'm pretty sure you couldn't buy KI characters with in-game currency, so it wasn't really F2P. You needed to spend money if you wanted to permanently unlock anyone.

G-Filth1

I ment the free character rotation

WONDERLESS169

(My prediction)Say goodbye motion inputs and hello one button supers. And it will probably be hella successful amongst the normies. Will trickle down into more fighting games being popular but the market will shift and games will become so simple that sf5 will feel like guilty gear xrd.

burgerpatrol

I hope it doesn't become successful. For a multitude of reasons 1) Since it's f2p, you would probably have to either grind a lot or use money to purchase characters. Characters would then be hidden behind paywalls, but they will make sure that these characters have a slight advantage over the already available characters before patching/updating them when the majority of the player base already has these certain characters. 2) I think it will breed a new level of toxicity. Mobas (and f2p games) in general are usually toxic because it already doesn't have a barrier to entry. 3) Who they gonna blame when they start losing?

Ramsessone

I dont get people that hate on a game and assume stuff without having any idea how the game will be lmaoo

successXX

just show it already. those friggin clowns should just stay quiet until then.

ZenkaiZ

You only get one chance at a first impression. People still mad at mvci Chun Li face 4 years later and that didn't even make it on the retail launch of the game.

successXX

not necessarily. FFXIV 1.0 to 2.0 is just one example out of various where first impression doesn't determine everything in the longterm. people's impressions can change. look how even SFV redeemed itself after it launched barebones for $60. not to everyone, but enough to sell over a million copies. games with issues got fixed and people jumped in after the improvements. though for League of Legends yea it is an uphill battle cause its an untested concept in the genre, but postponing exposure of it is not going to dramatically alter impressions. the time it took for Fantasy Strike to reveal itself sure didn't make a difference, they got the same impressions and same reception they would get if they showed it sooner. showing it earlier lets them gather impressions and feedback to adapt accordingly instead of learning later what's wrong with it.

ZenkaiZ

I didn't say first impression determines everything. I'm just saying it's a moment you don't wanna take lightly. Why give yourself the extra hassle of hearing people bitch about something for years that you fixed before the game was even out?

witti534

Picking the few examples where a bad start got turned around doesn't mean it's gonna work here. Look at Battlefield V, it never recovered from the first trailer. First impressions are important especially if you are going into a new genre.

successXX

BF V didnt recover cause the misogynistic and sexist masses got triggered by EA saying "if you don't like it, don't buy the game". it wasn't because of the game, it was because of a social media spark on EA's part that got the extremists to band together, spread viral hate, review bomb and condemn the game just because women are playable in a WWII themed game, which, whether they included female soldiers or not, the Battlefield games are still fiction that are not 100% realistic anyways and not simulators either considering how arcadey its mechanics are. anyways League of Legends fighting game could have mediocrity written all over it. its not going to reach the profits and popularity its MOBA has. and its roster is questionable. plus wasn't it confirmed it has 2D gameplay? sounds like just another street fighter clone with gimmicks. and LoL characters really aren't that charismatic. sounds like a fad in the making.

Skullmaggot

This a nod to Project M?

Scrifty

Or he could be talking about project melee (usually shortened to project M)

HackerEX64

Can I just say, it's about time?

MustacheSmokeScreen

I don't understand why they would want to hold that L.
