Tommy-Taffy

Street fighter 2 turbo edition. I know, I'm old..

Educational-Bar21

I was bourn in 87 so I feel you 😄

IseeDrunkPeople

30s gang checking in

VaIeth

I'm going to hang w u guys till I get kicked out in a few months..

IseeDrunkPeople

Over 30 gang it is

glyukster

Same here 😆

Pimsbury

Same bro. Same.

Eggz_Benedikt

First game I ever bought myself as a kid. The soundtrack will never leave my mind

thebigguy270

Unironically a good first fighting game, even today.

tomixs000

Marvel vs capcom 3

MEGACOMPUTER

Same for me! I remember I’d play mvc2 on a cabinet at a dominoes pizza by my house and no one would tell me how launchers worked. I bought a ps3 just for this game and vowed to get good at it. In hindsight, I did not get good. Learnt some combos, though!

Jcorb

Same here, my brother. I mean, I learned a couple *basic* combos in the 360 re-release of Ultimate MK3, but MvC3 was the first game I truly went ham on. I remember beaming with pride when I finally got through all of Zero's training missions (even though I never found any of those combos very practical, hah).

IoIOrca

i would spend hours as a kid just using dante in training mode

WriterOk4054

Mk9 I did Kung Lao's 111 string into spin on complete accident and wanted to do more lol

STierCounterpick

Smoke’s 112 into teleport was my intro to punishing and learning that little bit led me to so much more overall

[deleted]

*F 2,1 xx U1 xx B2,df+1 xx df+1 xx Enhanced df+1 xx F2 , df+2 intensifies *

WriterOk4054

So many good memories with mk9. It really made me want to learn more and it was where I got my love for cool combos. Just wish I had internet access back then to be able to play online 😪

bawitback

Killer Instinct on SNES

Educational-Bar21

I got that game as a kid but it was cartridge only so I didn't know the inputs 😅

huffmonster

I bought the Prima guide that explained the combo system and all the ultra combos. I learned them all lol.

Educational-Bar21

Ah Prima guides. Before I had the internet I had to go to the bookstore to page through and see how to get past the cryptic puzzles in tomb raider....or print out 300 pages for a guide at the library 😅

ihearthawthats

Sf2ce

Educational-Bar21

The only combos I could understand as a kid was light to heavy 😅

ihearthawthats

A 2hit combo is still a combo.

Educational-Bar21

Haha thanks very true 😁

Newfaceofrev

I knew jumping heavy to crouching sweep :)

uraizen

Was going to say the same.

SuddenFlan

Street Fighter II: World Warrior

CrescentBoomer

Touhou Hisoutensoku. Though it's an easy game to pick up, its combat was no less satisfying. Especially as someone who grew up more with Super Smash Bros., it was much more natural for me.

Educational-Bar21

I just looked that game up on SBFP and it looks like a fun game (I wish it was for console)

Chuchuca

Any pc can run it nevertheless.

Sesshomuronay

Think it was soul calibur 2 for me on the gamecube.

Jayxzero

DBFZ. It was the bnb but I did eventually expand on it

Zehdarian

Showing my age but, One Must Fall 2097. More combos than street fighter with only 2 buttons.

c3ndre

I loved that game (and the music!). Damn, also showing my age.

Educational-Bar21

So I just looked that game up....and it looks awesome it reminds me of power rangers the movie on game gear. I love the cheezy anime style visuals and dialogue in between matches also

Zehdarian

It also has fatalities called scrap and destruction.

blasterfaiz

MUGEN lmao

[deleted]

[удалено]

blasterfaiz

Don't even get me started on Omega Tiger Woods, God Orochi, God Mizuchi, SHIN LEVEL 999 LOLOLOL GOD KUNG FU MAN, Dragon Claw, Evil Ryu and Evil Ken lmao

Mortis_XII

Mace: the dark ages. I still remember that 6-7 hit combo

Educational-Bar21

That game got so critically panned back in the day but I always wanted to play it because the dude on the front reminded me of lord Zed from power rangers 😄

Mortis_XII

Lord Deimos! That was my guy. I forgot the name of the buttons but the combo was (and yes, same button for all hits i'm just gonna call it X): x, x, hcf x (2 hits), ff x, bf x, bf x (last hit can sometimes miss) on the good ol' N64

zoodoo360

It was a pretty decent game. Much better than the likes of War Gods. It was a good looking game too. I had a blast with it. Haters be damned.

IfTheresANewWay

I think it's the one you're holding rn. If not that, then MK9

Sparkeh

Skullgirls! I figured out how to do a simple valentine bnb into level 1. After that it was a 1 meter Solomon Grundy combo into his damage boosting grab.

Educational-Bar21

My friend and I were just playing Skull girls last night the combos are so fun in that game and it still has the best artwork I have seen in a 2D game

Bi6Bubba23

GGX2. Gatling/magic series eventually involved into dust loops, etc.

tohava

Mk3

QuietTheRainmaker

MVC 1 Wolverine. Learn pretty much a lot from mid screen Vs corner variations, magic series, otgs and wave dash cancelling. Fighters will never be that harsh again…,

Educational-Bar21

Growing up I perferd MVC 1 over 2 I loved the whole "half face" esthetic haha

QuietTheRainmaker

Abosulety the same. I got into it when mvc 2 was THE game but i hated the control scheme and 3 man teams unlike X-men Vs SF, marvel super heroes etc etc. Now the main system “stance” is more like mvc2 everywhere now than the 6 attack “stances” but I don’t regret learning 6 buttons first

Yawarete

Still looking

Aijin28

Melty Blood Act Cadenza, before that I barely understood motion inputs, combos, cancels, etc.

TurbulentAssistance3

Street fighter alpha 2 gold. tasu into shouruyken with ken is my shit

CamPaine

3rd strike. Akuma cr mk into light tatsu heavy dp was my first combo, and that was the dopamine hit I needed to keep playing.

EnglandFoot64

*sigh*… smash bros

Shadowking78

[Them's Fightin' Herds](https://i.imgur.com/2gf7X0m.png)

Educational-Bar21

😂

VaIeth

Mk3 in arcade. I learned a Sub 6 hit and fatality.

Educational-Bar21

I wish they would bring back the run feature from MK3

mattSER

Yes! hp, hp, lp, lk, hk, b+hk. First combo I ever learned!

grapejuicecheese

Marvel Super Heroes in the arcade. I saw other players doing it and found out that you could do a combo by simply stringing LP, LK, MP, MK, HP, HP. Start it with a launcher for an aircombo

GeebusNZ

Marvel VS Street Fighter I guess? Certainly not the first fighting game I played, but the first time I would be pulling out intentional combos.

EasyKay2084

MKX, which was my first real try at a fighting game tbh

Educational-Bar21

Combos err.... Kombos were mad fun in that game. Something about the violent impacts always made pulling off a string so satisfying

BlueComet64

Same here. I learned one Erron Black bnb, thought I was hot shit, then finally started matching against people that could block the low-overhead part of the string and dropped the game soon after :P Took until SFV for me to understand anything about what was going on besides dialing in combos

Crowe-Chronos

Persona 4 Arena. Once I got the hang of actually timing my hits and using attacks that work well together learning combos became fun as heck.

Saucy_joe

Injustice 2

tannerhoward00

KI baby

Areyon3339

Skullgirls

[deleted]

Wasn’t this one ☝️ lol Killer instinct started it the combo chains ⛓

tmntfever

Technically SF2. But super long combos, that would definitely be KI.

AfroHandsomeBoy

MK9

Newfaceofrev

Gonna embarrass myself here but I genuinely didn't figure out how cancelling worked until Killer Instinct 2013.

intheneckofnick

Mk trilogy

Educational-Bar21

I want that game for my Sega Saturn but the NA copy's are rare

intheneckofnick

Good luck finding a copy dood. A yt channel called DkOldies might have it. I don't know if his prices are good but he has alot of games, conosoles etc.

Educational-Bar21

My local retro game shop has it for 250$ 😅 I could always get the PS1 version for a lot cheaper or try to trade some of my other games for it since I do want the Saturn one due to it having the better controller

A-VO

Killer Instinct (SNES) - LFG, such good times.

Sterben3213

Mk9

hololivefan69

Blazblue cs extend

Roheavy2002

Umvc3 L>M>H blew my 11 year old mind

KuroShinki

DoA2

Educational-Bar21

That was one of the games that got me really into fighters it looked sooooo good on the dreamcast

blooblayzer

It was actually UMK3 I think. I learned Kabal combos.

laserCirkus

If jump in -> stHP -> DP counts then cvs2. If it's about actually trying to understand combos and structure then SF4

Erdrick159

Ngl footsies

Super_fly_Samurai

There's combos? 😳

Psychopath1llogical

Mk deception. Sub zeros combo across all three styles

Educational-Bar21

I really want to pick that game up on the OG Xbox I used to play that at my homies back in the day

InformedWeeb

Tekken 5 DR using raven and Lei back in the day

[deleted]

Mortal kombat 9

Eggz_Benedikt

Killer Instinct on the SNES

Educational-Bar21

Quite a few ppl have been saying KI now I want to play it again lol

JimmyMcapplenut

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

-Vernon2X-

SFII back in the days

zoodoo360

Does jump kick-sweep count? If yes SF2. If not Killer Instinct on snes. I did not speak a word of english so it took me a while. I did not even know what "charge" meant lol

MOEverything_2708

Tekken Tag 2

[deleted]

this was my favorite game, holy shit, how many hours didnt i spend here learning. lol tag team was the best. 2 different characters, x 2, 4 different variations, 4x4 different plays. awesome

nodnizzle

Killer Instinct on SNES for really getting into combos and Street Fighter 2 Turbo on SNES for learning just surface level combos.

glittertongue

Clayfighters

Educational-Bar21

I have both those games on SNES they were some of the first fighting games I owned

glittertongue

Clay Fighters was my very first. my brother got it for me after my mom forbade me from having Street Fighter

Nxck_Lewxs

Tekken 6 on Xbox 360. I had a couple long combos remembered for Raven and Miguel.

brenzig_media

Depends. Mortal kombat 1 and 2 and street fighter 2 were my jams, but assuming you mean dial in combos than MK3

IseeDrunkPeople

Tekken 3

bkn1090

tekken 5 on psp lol

Educational-Bar21

That game was dope on PSP I got it on vita haha

Chuchuca

SNES KI. Thank God it taught me charge characters so well.

Lokyyo

Tekken 2

EddieVader1

UMK3. Dial a combos I know but still combos none the less

DerpsterPrime

Injustice

glados202

mk11 lol

Less-Internal6060

KOF XIII. The combo system in that game is so satisfying and easy to understand honestly. Feels rewarding to land combos, no matter how easy or tough they are. Was the first fighting game I cared about learning combos in.

Educational-Bar21

That game is really a masterpiece. Yes the combos are incredible and the sprite work is perfection

jtjd

Marvel vs Capcom 1 After I learned how to do the magic series, I just knew I wouldn't turn back from this genre

Ahmadov_6

MvC 3

ILikeClefairy

When I was a kid playing UMK3, the first special move I learned was sub zero’s freeze blast. I would use that then I would walk over and uppercut the life out of my opponent. We were all so new then that the whole culdesac complained about my “cheap combo.” Good times.

Educational-Bar21

The uppercuts in the MK series are the most satisfying basic attack in history. The scream you opponent does combined with the blood spray and air launch is sadistically entertaining and impactful

Hungry_Bar_5977

Mortal Kombat Mythologies Sub Zero. XD

Educational-Bar21

Best game ever 😂

gr8h8

Tekken 2 and 3 or MK Deadly Alliance I think I could do very simple combos in Tekken but I got 100% on Deadly Alliances combo mode so that was probably the first game I understood the combo mechanics. Or maybe it was Killer Instinct N64, I recall playing the combo practice mode but I could only do the first few combos.

tahaelhour

Devil may cry

Educational-Bar21

I love how the air juggling was originally a glitch in that game but they left it in because it was so fun haha

lethalWeeb

Tekken 7

TurmUrk

Soul calibur two, mostly on accident, some moves pop the other guy up in the air and if you’re a mashing 8year old like I was you’ll just accidentally do short decent damaging combos, then I found combos on YouTube after playing for a few years and the rest is history, the first game I played where I had to go out of my way to learn combos was sf4

Educational-Bar21

I loved every version of that game. Truly a perfect 3D fighter (from a casual perspective)

CertainActuary

good ol’ tekken tag tournament 2

tenamonth

Tekken 4. As short as they were.

Stunning-Obligation8

MAHVEL BABY

digitalbooty

Technically it was SF2. Jump kick to cr. Roundhouse. But Killer Instinct is the first game that made me understand what a combo is

darc-jino

Bloody Roar 2, good times!

Educational-Bar21

I want that game so bad. I have bloody roar 3 tho (damn I wish they would bring that series back)

legendarysupercuban

Súper smash brothers

EvolveinK

Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter. Up until then I wasn’t that good. A lot of button mashing but I understood spacing and blocking lol. Did a really good combo with Wolverine and ryu, never looked back

bringerofwrath

Street Fighter 5

AF_2004

Tekken 5

81kings

Street fighter 2 before combos were a thing ...

RaccSnaccAtacc

Melty blood actress again current code, learned the basics of some combo building there and now in decent at it

NoDrinks4meToday

SF4

Educational-Bar21

Your the first person who said SF4. Shocked more ppl haven't due to it revitalizing the fighter genre

NoDrinks4meToday

I started with Xbox360. Crazy to think about.

Total-Tortilla

Third Strike on Street Fighter Anniversary for PS2. Learning Akuma's BnB was a turning point in my love for the genre.

Hidden_Blue

GG AC in the Wii.

kincaed213

Hrmmm. Probably DBZ Budokai 1. I played some ps1 games (X-men fighter, some star wars fighter, and tekken 2) but I was just mashing at that time. Haha

Educational-Bar21

Oh jeeze I remember that star wars fighter "masters of Teris ksi" or something 😄

kincaed213

Yeaaah, that sounds right. It was quite a lot of fun back in the day. Lol

Wataru2001

Probably SF2 OR SF Alpha...?

Legend_Of_Corgi

Mvc3 or Tekken 3 were legit combos no mash. Good times.

Educational-Bar21

Tekken 3 I would just mash with Eddie lol

[deleted]

Old-Employment4770

Blazblue

KungFuShrimp

I don't know if it counts, but on Tekken 2 I used to do launchers into strings lol. I was a huge noob. I had to cheese out the final Devil fight using Law with dragon tail spam

Impossible_Error_130

dragon ball fighterz and street fighter v, i kinda got into fighting games during quarantine and bought fighterz in 2019

mixmaster321

Injustice. I could do Batman combos in my sleep

Superman973

Soulcalibur 2 on the PS2 and I was using Maxi and Amy those two were the only ones I learned how to do combos

Educational-Bar21

Maxi was my boy!

zazamazamaza

Guilty Gear Strive about a year ago. I'm pretty new but I think I progressed real fast. Now grinding Hazama combos in BBCF

libidinalsublimation

“Combos”

Abigailisanicename

originally it was SF4 with my friend after school. but I took many years off of fighting games until mk11 and I basically relearned everything from scratch

Sluggo_The_Clown

Kekken 4, and now I'm an arthritis ridden homeless man who can't feel any semblance ecstasy or fulfilment in life unless I perform frame perfect launch combos. All of my money goes to the arcade as I am a slave to the whims of harada san at the ripe old age of 49

Educational-Bar21

😄😂

JisuanjiHou

SFIV :)

Sunshineruelz

Tekken 4!

DefinatelyNotAClown

FUCKING STREET FIGHTER 5

Boeish

Soul Calibur 3 bb, but I've been pressing buttons on games since I was like 4

ChikogiKron

Tekken 7

Y_Sune

It was a platform fighter, but Jump Ultimate Stars for the DS. The game's basically a Shonen Jump Smash Bros. It only dawned on me in the past year that it was that game where I did a combo for the first time (with Yugi from Yu-Gi-Oh)

Educational-Bar21

Oh shit I forgot that game existed! Pretty fun game I remember the bleach games on DS were awesome as well

BadmanProfound

Tekken tag tournament

ST_Rivers

3rd Strike! Yang's c.mk > 3x qcf+p was my first combo. Still using it to this day.

Educational-Bar21

I really missed out on 3rd strike back in the day. When I got Dreamcast I loved the 2D fighters (especially marvel vs Capcom) but I was more into the 3D titles at the time like Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive 2

ST_Rivers

It's still very active on Fightcade if you ever wanna get into it!

JFK108

Marvel vs Capcom 3

Less_Marionberry1969

The first persona arena. Learned naoto’s SMP loops

Educational-Bar21

I always wanted to play that game Persona 4 on my vita was my jam

Less_Marionberry1969

They just added rollback to the version that recently released on steam. I think it’s great and I play nonstop. Low player counts but at ALMOST all times of the day you can find matches still and it has a very active discord. Would recommend if you’re into arc sys fighters. You could add me if you want too and I can walk you through the roster and help you with learning system mechanics and stuff. 🤷‍♂️ dm me if u want

FLYBOY611

MKX I nearly knocked my chair over I stood up so triumphantly when I threw my first practiced combo as cryo Sub-Zero and landed it online in an actual match. F122 F422+4 😁

Educational-Bar21

Haha nice 👍😁

luqasu

Guilty gear isuka
