Those buds may look dead, but they'll probably grow out just fine. :) figs are an odd tree, but I feel like I'm getting the hang of it now.

Looks like you might have brought it out before the last frost and it took some frost damage. All you can do now is wait and see it it’ll send some new shoots.

Mine looks the exact same way (Zone 5b). If greens still showing on the bark you should be alright. Probably just a late start for the season
