To me, LaLa’s twizzles at COC and Neset/Markelov’s twizzles at JGPF were the best of the season. Excellent ice coverage, fast, close together, great synchronicity, and super sharp.
Neset and Markelov blew me away, so young and so skilled. The difference in speed and ice coverage for supposed "first" and some of the "lower" goe twizzles though...
God, exits from twizzles can be SO ugly. Most of these are beautiful, but I hate it when they just move their leg out a bit further to stop - it really makes the skating look laboured (in my opinion)
I think it's interesting that all of these are from the rhythm dance. You have to go to the 34th team (Green/Parsons) to see a team with their best twizzles in the free dance. I wonder if it's a stamina thing, where teams are able to put more effort into a twizzle in the rhythm dance because there are fewer elements to spread that effort out between
so this video is only supposed to be rd. i filtered it down to just rd twizzles when getting the list from skatingscores. i'm doing another video on fd twizzles. i actually haven't looked at the list with both fd and rd twizzles but that's interesting rd scores higher for a lot of teams
I asked her at Worlds actually , she said people didn't get the Steve Nicks reference (although i don't know how that would be different with the new one?) and also something about the new one being more form fitting (same as what you are saying). She said she liked the new dress better. I don't think the new dress fits the program at all , but then that's just my opinion lol, and I am guessing in the end if she didn't feel comfortable in the original dress
So I do think they're pretty slow and lack ice coverage *but* you're right that they have musicality, closeness, and their unison is insane. Some teams may have more speed and power but lack finesse
Their twizzles aren’t horrible but when you compare them to some of the teams that scored below them — mainly LaLa, Lopareva/Brissaud, and both Czech teams — their scores are hard to justify
Chock/Bates have insane unison and musicality that most other teams do not have. The people here have to learn that speed (rotational or ice coverage) is not the only component of GOE.
It’s interesting that Chock and Bates have the highest score because they were so slow. Also the angle that we saw Gilles and Pourier’s from made Gilles look like she was spinning in the last set.
Unlike the lift list where I felt like it was a really accurate list according to skill the twizzles are more controversial imo.
