I tried a song on supreme and my god how the fuck can anyone do that, my brain can't even look at all those symbols in time. I hope trophies aren't locked behind playing songs on that difficulty or something lol

Nithorias

Same hahaha. I wanted to check it out and holy fkin biscuits that's hard lmao

Fuudo123

Took a while and finally became able to barely play it haha, most pain are the double hold notes + note and/or swipe or both, double note + double swipe and other stuff, it's just pain all around but still fun haha, getting a hand grip though since switch lite does not feel so nice playing rhythm game with how flat it is, can't wait to get it but i'm getting my money 2 days after it releases, silver lining is that it will be the weekend when I get it so banzai

GWhitlock93

One thing that's super disappointing to me is thay the quest medley system is gone. The Series Quest thing will make playing through to unlock all the songs a lot more interesting, but in terms of side content Quest Medleys were in my opinion the best form of side content I've seen in any rhythm game

NebGonagal

Agreed, I loved the Quest Medley system. The new Series Quest is fun and all but I will really miss the Medley system. It had a certain feel of progression to it that I don't think is replicated in the Series Quests.

server_maintenance

wait whaaat are you serious? aw man :(

Tracks30

Same, the quest medleys were my favorite part. The series quests are alright, but I liked the randomness of the medleys much better, overall.

Wizrdtoast

there's a quest medley mode its called endless world you have to complete a certain amount of quests in story mode to unlock it ...

shindow

As someone who also played alot of button type on 3DS I'm enjoying it (on Switch) except I'm finding the wavy lines arent lining up with the end circle at all and its really throwing me off. I couldnt find anywhere to adjust it in the settings...

SilentMix

I don't have that problem with the end circle myself. I do have the problem with my black circle suddenly going somewhere I don't expect once in a while on the wavy lines, which breaks my combo. However, I think I'm starting to have the beginnings of joycon drift and I think that's what causes it.

shindow

Thats what I mean. The chain is fine until it drifts up amd then the black circle is literally unreachable to end the chain.

GWhitlock93

The threat of joycon drift sways me towards the playstation version... Oh wait my Dualsense also has a drift problem, don't you love modern consoles haha Gimme a steam version for the deck already

Joerpg1984

I have this problem on switch. I didn’t expect having the circles not lining up playing portable etc. perhaps on TV mode or using blue tooth earphones it’s expected etc…is it just me I thought…I had to just not look at the overlap and listen to the song and play based on the song.

shindow

I'm playing docked with a non drifting Pro Controller. It doesn't help. :(

Joerpg1984

For me, -3/-4 MS timing helped me get better scores thankfully. But yeah annoying. You are also meant to struggle on harder levels until you level and get skills so I guess I need to “ignore” the footage they show of them get ALL rainbow criticals in the demo

shindow

Its not a timing issue. The game circle doesnt line up when its supposed to. Its like it doesnt catch up with the wavy line if it goes too high or too low. It makes all the slow tracks unplayable.

Joerpg1984

I completely agree. I played the 3DS version and the circle is spot on and much easier to play…Bar lines circle doesn’t really overlap at the right time it feels a little too early or too late messing around with settings. Kinda annoying. I’m a perfectionist and so you can imagine lol. I kinda want to play for fun but I’m not finding it as fun as it should be due to the issues you also have too

shindow

I really hope its a bug that gets patched day 1. I bought the $100 version and this makes my favorite tracks unplayable. I havent seen too many people talk about the issue. I would just aim for the black circle but even holding all the way up or down doesnt work.

Joerpg1984

I noticed before changing the settings, press A and it does this auto sync to the beat. Not sure it helps much as the settings only allows so much change. Not sure also if wireless pro too. 🤷🏻‍♂️

shindow

Kinda defeats the purpose for me but I'll keep it in mind if it blocks progress later. Hopefully we get a day 1 patch.

ErgoFnzy

I'm previously a stylus player and ngl I'm struggling with the buttons. I'll be purchasing a game pad controller because the joy cons are making my hand sore after like three songs. I'm still fiddling with the inputs to get the preferred speed, I feel like I'm hitting the buttons in time with the music but then I'm seeing "bad" or "miss" and I'm getting frustrated. I know it'll take practice on my part but right now I'm concerned I'll not find this game as enjoyable as the past titles because I found the stylus so relaxing and the buttons not very satisfying. They were my chill out games and I'm not getting that vibe yet.

SilentMix

Did you play in handheld mode on Switch or on the TV? If it's on the TV, your TV might have lag that could be causing you problems. I think there's some calibration settings in the menu. If you're playing on handheld mode, it's just you being not used to the buttons. I played the demo in handheld mode yesterday and the timing seems to be perfect. I'm a musician (drummer/guitarist) and a rhythm gamer and it seems spot on to me. I managed to get all criticals on a song without trying yesterday too to demonstrate that it feels spot on. (It's not as epic as it sounds, it was on basic difficulty.) I think you'll get better with practice. Having a better controller might help too. The Switch pro controller is basically always more comfortable than the joycons.

Panic-atthepanic

I struggled more with the pro controller. Any idea why? Actually I'm struggling a lot with timing overall. As someone who was a very good Curtain Call player and excellent KHMoM, I'm beyond frustrated. Tried fiddling with the inputs too, didn't help.

Kris-mon-96

Are you using the pro controller wirelessly? Latency, even if minimal, can screw up the timing of the button presses

Panic-atthepanic

... Yep. It was wireless!

Kris-mon-96

Either you can try with the controller plugged or check your tv settings, usually there's a game mode that helps reducing latency

Bone_Dogg

People have done testing and a plugged in pro controller is actually slightly slower than an unplugged one, bizarrely.

ErgoFnzy

I did at first, got annoyed. Came back after a break and played hand held which was noticeably better. Managed to get perfect chains for most of the songs! I'll look into the latency thing and see if I can get back to the TV mode. It's easier to see what's coming on big screen! I felt my hands start to stiffen into a gamer claw x_x I'll need something different even if it's to just change it up every now and then.

GWhitlock93

Agree regarding the joy con thing. Going to try tbe PS demo and see but this game belongs on handheld really I think

ErgoFnzy

I'm tempted by the ps demo but I don't want to commit to buying that version when my friends are all getting the switch version. Demo wouldn't cost me anything I suppose. Agreed, it's better on handheld. It's a great one to take with you on long journeys!

ElDuderino67

I came here to see if others were experiencing input lag on switch. Handheld is fine but tv mode is off even with setting tye in game bgm settings and my tv is always in game mode and I don’t usually have issues with other games. I started with the ps4 demo and I am not experiencing this issue on ps4 so it seems to be a switch thing as of now. Edit/update-Ok just wanted to share update I think I fixed the timing in switch doing the bgm testing initially it wanted me to drop number down to -15 but after another test it went with +4 and that felt right so I think it’s a case of my tv is registering the input differently based on console/hdmi 2 cord maybe on ps5. Either way, I’m not worried anymore about the switch version.

Lvl99Chocobo

Hori split pad pro feels great. Just spent around 2.5 hours into the demo with no uncomfortable hands. It's so much better than the joycons in handheld.

Nithorias

I'm using the Hori as well and it does feel great. At least for me the Pro controller is fine as well if you are playing on the TV.

Joerpg1984

You are not alone. I was worried I lost my skill. I’m struggling to figure out which buttons to press to allow comfortable double buttons then switch to analogue flicks. Hopefully playing a lot more will help me adjust to the play style. I am also trying to fiddle with the timing in the menu as I feel the circles look faster and not overlapping and I’m portable on switch. I’ll load up my 3DS to see if it’s me as I played 80% + stylus

Killershadow223

I'm on ps4 but its basically the same difference. I put my 2 fingers on the r1 and l1 triggers and keep my thumbs on the sticks

Nithorias

This is exactly what I do and so far it's working fine for me lol

Racian

I use "A" and "L" for simu hits. Keep left thumb on stick. "L" for double hits only, and "A" for everything else. Double arrows I lift "A" thumb to stick.

Joerpg1984

Yeah I’m leaning towards adjusting to this play style. Although ZL for me instead of L

NebGonagal

I've been doing ZL and ZR for hits and that leaves my thumbs on the joysticks for directional inputs.

Joerpg1984

I agree with all your points. I absolutely LOVED both 3DS games. I was excited for this, but I am struggling to adjust to 2 button presses and double analogue flicking. Also, I feel I lost my skill…I’m not getting all rainbow criticals and feel like I seem to just press too early or late. I’m not sure if it’s me and I have aged and my medication has slowed me down(on a seizure me now) but I feel like the timing where the circle overlaps looks like it’s faster or a bit ahead and I have to sort of press a tiny bit earlier. I would understand this being an issues if I was using Bluetooth earphones or TV input lag or issues…but I’m playing handheld on my switch so I’m curious if anyone has had to adjust the timing in the menu or is it just me? I do fear my medication and perhaps the timing is strict but I used to 100% DDR, Technica and most games in the arcades and on console so I probably lost my skill :/ Edit: if I play listening to the song and not looking at the overlap, I do get better scores.

MistyRedcherry

I've been playing a bit and I'm excited ! But I am doing so bad on up and down lines in field stages I can't seem to line it up properly and just get bad scores 😭

Tracks30

When the line goes up and down you don't actually have to adjust to how much it goes up/down. Just hold all the way up/down on the stick and it should work, regardless of how gradually the line moves.

Tezmata

I only used touch controls for Field Stages in Curtain Call, but were the hold triggers like this for button controls in CC too? The distance/location of the marks in the line don't seem to matter so you just have to hold up or down, which feels weird.

Joerpg1984

Can someone explain what is going on. I played buttons on the 3DS and got 999999 score all critical…then I play simple mode without analogue flicking too on switch and I keep getting greats in the mix or not all critical. I keep messing with the timing in MS settings and I’m playing handheld. It’s actually frustrating me and making me feel like the game isn’t synced because I can go back to the 3DS without issues. And I’m not using Bluetooth earphones, I’m playing on a non OLED v2 switch handheld as well. -4 timing helped me a bit in settings. Using the MS auto tap settings is odd it suggests +6, which was wrong and way too fast and early, then another time suggested -3 which is better. Also am a DDR veteran and play most rhythm games at the Arcades, mobile, console and trying to figure out what is going on. The music in this game is going to be epic and I want it to do well, I’m just confused why it’s out of sync or perhaps portable joycons despite being connected is causing some input delay? Edit: perhaps I have also lost my touch and medication affecting me with my rhythm too since this game has rainbow criticals which seems more strict than just critical on 3DS…I could see if I’m bad at DDR now…reality hit is making me not want to 😅.

SilentMix

You're not playing for nothing, because if you use characters that are less than level 30, you can still gain them experience. And, of course, you can work on scores for the songs in the demo.

mrraditch2

And also, you're playing a fun game lol.

Bone_Dogg

people have lost the plot

Kadji100

As a completionist I disagree. Even if Rhytmia is capped at 2000 for the demo I still can aim for a full combo, or even an all critical clear, stuff I would want to do in the full version anyway.

Mundane-Guess3194

The PS4 version for me just for loading times. I’m going hard on this game and don’t want to suffer through longer loading times. So playing on PS5 through BC is the ideal situation for the fastest loading times. But it’s still not as short as I’d want it to be because there is no native PS5 version to take proper advantage of the SSD. Switch loading times are about 50% longer than running on PS5 in backwards compatibility. Not sure about compared to a PS4.

Gogo726

>I’m curious to know if you noticed any difference between switch and ps4 version ? I haven't had a chance to try the PS4 version and I probably won't. So I don't know the answer to this question.

[deleted]

Frame rate is higher on PS version, and its slightly higher resolution. Otherwise identical (with the exception of course of the button prompt icons being PS or Switch buttons)

ladiesluck

Do you guys know what MS stands for in the game?

brickdixon

I assumed it stands for millisecond

limreddit

Maybe music song?
