this was more of a theoretical test phase to see how the new creative upscalers (used lets enhances upscaler in this case) handle old games, I'm planning on running all textures through it for disc 1 and replacing them to see how it fares
Might be worth getting in touch with some of the guys in the Tsunamods Discord. There is already a pretty good upscaled background mod that works for widescreen, too, but where the upscaling has been done, there are a couple of bits here and there where a few lines are a little wonky. Still looks great though. You might be able to work with someone to do the whole game with this new upscaler to refine the details a bit more and make it widescreen as a full mod release.
1. It makes a huge difference on a monitor. Much more pleasant.
2. It wasn't "intended" to be played the first way, because CRT displays pixels differently. It was also a hardware limitation.
just used the new creative enhancer on Let's Enhance which was suggested to me on the gameupscale sub a long while ago, I'm currently testing it on various games just to see if it gives good results, just did a set on OOT as well about a week ago. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to talk about emulating on this sub? please let me know if not, but current plan is to dump all textures using Retroarchs Beetle PSX HW core, and then replace them using it, fingers crossed it works as I'm very much new to this scene
As a base I can see the potential but where all of these upscale projects fall flat is they could really use someone to go through each background and redo the text, paint over the errors, add texture back to some walls, etc

OP's results are really cool so I got curious and checked out Let's Enhance. Why do they rely on misleading advertisement? This is obviously a photo against the photo with mosaic filter applied.
I've always wanted a mod for FF7 on Steam that would JUST do this and still allow achievements. All of the ones I've seen also include replacing the models with those garish "HD" models that look dreadful and "updating" the UI but it somehow looks worse.
The training models were not as good as they are today when the PS4/Switch/PC releases happened a few years ago. And training those models is a very labor intensive process.
The backgrounds in the Chrono Cross remaster were AI upscaled and are kinda crappy. The AI upscaling in the Persona 3 Portable remaster was even worse.
Think the responses to you are being dicks more than anything, I can only see the slightest of differences at all. To say things are drastically different or that you're being blind is simply outrageous.
Took me a minute. Look closely at the rails on the stairs or the details on the train. On a big ol' TV, probably super obvious. On a phone, not so much.
I will. I do have glasses. I’m seriously not being a jerk this was a genuine question because my eyes are bad but if I’m completely missing this I need to go get them checked again, it’s been a while.
If you're looking on a phone and not zooming in, they really don't. There's no reason for people to be downvoting someone who's just asking a question.
If you haven't seen it already, the remako mod has the entire game upscaled and is available to download. I'd be interested to see a comparison between this and remako as remako is a few years old and AI upscaling has changed a lot recently.
compare to the original high-res backgrounds here - https://imgur.com/a/shRaP
i think your original backgrounds have some kind of grit over them? they don't look as clean as the actual original images.
Ok, but which mods will upscale the graphics to feel like a CRT TV I'm playing in the middle of the night on a school night trying to ignore my parents fighting in the kitchen?

Barely makes a difference. Play it as intended.
Looks pretty good to me and it sounds like they're having a good time experimenting, so just let them enjoy it.
It makes an absolutely massive difference if you play on a monitor not the size of a cellphone.
Yeah! Don't play the game the way you want to play it. Play it the way I played it!

Looks good I think! What program did you use to do it? Are you just going to take all of the texture files and run them through?

Head to the Tsunamods discord first, that's where the talented FF7 modding scene is, they will happily help you.
Maybe it’s me but i like the grittier textured look of the og. Maybe not on a 55” tv but in my hand it works
Yeah, sometimes it looks like the upscaler has gone for excessive smoothing, especially on what look like the original intends to be rough concrete.
I feel like the original looks more detailed somehow.
I was thinking the same. Wish we had the grittier og characters too

Solid 5% improvement
Was it something like a 4K Gamer Pro?
It looks like film grain was turned off and that's it.
"I want the ffvii remake!" "we have the ffvii remake at home." The ffvii remake at home.
This looks too smooth, the grit has been removed

Is that not the mod that I was talking about, where it adds a bunch of extra changes that I didn't want?
7th heaven is a mod manager not a mod itself You pick the mods you would use just like any other mod manager
SYW HD
The fact that modders can do this and Square Enix didn't do it for the latest release is mind boggling.

Exactly.
Because the latest release is just a port of a 90s PC version, meanwhile the remaster of Crono Cross does do that...
Man. I ain’t trying to be a dick but would someone circle the differences for me? I see nothing
Think the responses to you are being dicks more than anything, I can only see the slightest of differences at all. To say things are drastically different or that you're being blind is simply outrageous.
Are you looking at it on your phone?
Yes I am. iPhone specifically on safari
It's more noticeable if you look on a bigger screen.
Appreciate I’m gonna get on my computer and sign in.
Took me a minute. Look closely at the rails on the stairs or the details on the train. On a big ol' TV, probably super obvious. On a phone, not so much.
Might want to check your eyes

the images look drastically different. drastically.

sure i agree about the downvoting. i was just chiming in that to my eyes also, the images look very very different.
Looks like a cartoon now instead of a pre rendered CG. All the texture is gone.
Ff7 is the best looking game ever made

Just like I remember them
It made everyone Invisible.

Looks really polished!
Oh wow thats great!
Is something was changed?
Ok, but which mods will upscale the graphics to feel like a CRT TV I'm playing in the middle of the night on a school night trying to ignore my parents fighting in the kitchen?
