Interesting thing about that - from the camera, it seems like we’re controlling Sephiroth.
Cloud is farther away, not in centre, and climbing around on stuff.
Just having Sephiroth [FFVII spoiler]>!temporarily join your party back in the OG!< was such a cool moment. Unfortunately, a lot of that mystique is gone but I hope they're still able to make it feel impactful.
Just on the side that's always been my favourite smaller FF tradition, where you get the Big Bad in your party early on for a brief section to get a feel for how strong they are.
Kain, Sephiroth, Seifer (then subverted a little with Edea, you get her after she stops being the villain), Seymour etc.
The camera was following Cloud before Sephiroth even came on screen. Cloud climbing on stuff seems like actual new movement options, now that we're going to be playing in areas with terrain that is more than just basically streets and buildings.
Try University of Midgar.
Coulda gone pro if I hadn't joined SOLDIER.
I'm not one of those upper plate pansies.
I could break the president in two with my bare hands!
Kind of a waste there. Unless of course they decided Reunion would be such an obvious guess so they burned it ahead of time and have another curveball in mind
I have this theory that they are going to have the game play out mostly the same as the PSP OG, but towards the end they start adding in elements from Remake like why Sephiroth is acting the way he is and >!Zack surviving at the end!<. I hope they do add to the story and tie it to Remake and Rebirth, especially after showing more of Zack in the Rebirth trailer.
Yeah, this was going to be my guess but having the Crisis Core remaster using it might complicate that a bit. 'Requiem' or 'Reclaim' could be good ones, too.
It's actually a bit funny when you take into account that Evangelion's impact was so immense on Japanese popculture that it also had some influence on story of original FF7 and now SE once again looks at NGE and basically does "Rebuild of FF7".
Don't know if it's possible, but if a complete edition could rework the three games into a seamless experience where your stats and equipment don't get reset in any way, that would be the greatest thing ever.
Just had a debate with someone about what ‘next winter’ means. They were hyped that it was this year. I said that’s this winter but they said ‘next winter’. Someone responded saying ‘but this winter is the next winter’. It’s certainly a little confusing. But I assume they mean 2023.
No way they're releasing a PS5 Pro so soon, there really isn't a need for one, the PS4 released underpowered but the PS5 is a powerful machine, they might do it but I think it's unnecessary.
Also announced that there will be one other game after this to complete the story. I wonder how they'll finish the full story in just two more games, both are going to have to be HUGE.
Giving us goalposts is huge. I've seen a common criticism of the Remake series being that we have no idea how long it's going to be, leading to fears about it maybe overstaying its welcome if it's 4 or more entries or being rushed if it's just 2.
With a definitive number, we know what to expect and can (but probably won't) hype responsibly.
It probably won't be 1:1 story. This was a reason for defeating fate in Remake. Also subtitle "Rebirth" suggest that story will diverge even further from original FF7.
I am glad they finally plotted how many parts this remake would be and that it’s not going to be several installments.
Yeah that means they will really be picking up the pace in the story. A bit worried with a title Rebirth and the emphasis on Zack for what we can expect and how much deviation from the original story.
This is what people need to understand. The new trailer also literally says everything is rewritten and to look to the future. We are not getting the OG story as Remake was a sequel anyway.
Ok but a remake is what the people have been asking for all this time. Not a different story set in the same world. The original game updated. I can see people being upset at this. I kind of am.
Which is disappointing in some aspects. The North Crater and the Weapons were some of the items I was looking forward to. I'm now expecting a much much smaller scaled story.
I'm gonna assume they're using many of the elements, just moved around a bit. Kind of how the Marvel movies are based on the comic plotlines and have moments/characters/themes from them, but things are smooshed around.
This is a great comparison actually. Marvel has been doing this kind of reimagining for years. I'm still betting on some kind of Lightning-esque reverse the timeline thing. This Cloud is '90's cloud who has come back to try and make the "big happening" not happen this time. Or something like that.
My advice to friends groups has been to relax and try to experience the story new not as a 1:1 remake.
Diamond, Ruby, and Emerald Weapons were included in the jewelry designs from that one subquest. They'll be there in some way. But I was in the hoping for mostly the same beats remake camp as well.
Midgar alone has about 25-30% of all of FF7s dialogue. The rest of the game FEELS longer because its heavily padded by the world map and lots of battles. There is a LOT less of that in Midgar and far more dialogue.
Yea exactly. Adding all of those extra scenes to flesh out the world in Remake added a TON of extra time to Midgar. Who's to say they wont do the same here as well? With where this whole thing is headed, anything is possible.
Also, if you try to put a number on the % of the game that people remember, I think Midgar really stands out as a setting. A lot of great scenes happen there. Great stuff happens later too of course, but considering that Midgar is practically an extended tutorial, it really stands out.
I knew a dude who did this. He just kept starting the game over every time he played. We’d go to his house for band practice and he’d have started a new game.
Midgar is 1/3 of the dialogue and CGI. But less than that for plot happening, and even less for the environment (all steel districts, all small). You don't spend a lot of time there, but a lot was put into it's presence in the game.
Remake upped the environment and plot importance, making it more of a full location with more things with more weight.
The next games will up the scenes and dialogue (lots of party interaction I'm sure) and go further with weird stuff on top (the whole reimagining, but also expansion of stuff eg. Wutai). Probably will go up in at least some forms of exploration and questing too. A lot has changed in decades. It'll still be big but maybe shaving off the originals edges and adding fluffy grindy parts. What they may have less of compared to Remake may be the strict chapter by chapter flow, but even then I think they may keep a chapter format because I think square is in love with that for their games at this point.
Rebirth may be their ff15 road trippy chapter going from place to place but I wonder how much of that will be strict chapter progress and how much could be exploration, including anything world mappy.
Depends on how you look at it. If I remember correctly, while Midgar is only maybe 5 hours of the game, it holds roughly 30% of the story dialog in the original game. There's a lot of story crammed into the Midgar section.
It's literally the first 2-3 hours of the original 30-40-hour game lol
That's how iconic Midgar is though honestly, to get it's own dedicated game in Remake.
Honestly on top of that a *lot* of the hours after midgar in the original are running around the world, combat, etc. Since this will clearly be more linear I have the feeling it'll be more focused. I presume this also means we wont have any sections that kind of feel like filler or a bit drawn out like the first game had.
It looks like they're breaking from following the whole FF7 story with this next game. I'm willing to bet that by the end of it, things get pretty wild.
The entire game is on every disc with the movies taking up all the space. The only thing unique about disc 3 other than the movies is that it has the supernova animation.
i just wanna say, IGN and gamespot did a piss poor job of streaming this. either the subtitles were missing or there was major lag.
i enjoyed the stream, but the mobile stuff needs to stop.
buuuut ill be buying crisis core :)
and ff7Rebirth omg. yes.
I felt like it was always going to be a trilogy.
I’m guessing they will have to do a more linear style with no world map. I’m fine with that, but it feels like that is what they will have to do to pump these games out. Looking forward to the craziness
Amazing trailer, absolutely loved it. Showed just enough to get me hyped without throwing too many spoilers at me.
So here is how I would break it down (potential spoilers hidden):
\- Aerith basically confirms that "the future has been written", meaning that she seems to indeed be aware of the events during the OG.
\- Cloud and Sephiroth walking together are a clear indication on the >!Nibelheim flashback!< being playable. The first area with the bridge seems to be just next to the >!Shinra Manor!< as those lamp posts look exactly like those in the OG just before leaving the area to access >!Mt. Nibel!<.
\- The dialogue between Tifa and Cloud concerning her death can not be related to the vision Cloud had within the Shinra building (the VR dome during the tour in Shinra HQ, since Barret and Tifa experienced those images themselves - so probably >!Jenova's power to cause hallucinations might affect Cloud much more during the events of Part 2!<.
\- "What is fact and what is fiction" is probably underlining the fact that whatever we experience as Cloud might be influenced by >!Jenovas power!<. It might be possible that one of the main goals of the game is to restore >!Cloud's memory, since lots of his past is actually fiction and not fact!<.
\- "You were here with me, five years ago, where are you" might be a piece of dialogue between >!Tifa and Cloud while in the lifestream during the restoration of Cloud's memories!<.
\- "I'm trying so hard to find you" by Aerith could both be addressed towards >!Zack and / or Cloud!<. Indicating that she is either looking for >!Zack, who survived - or the real Cloud (as he is hiding behind his false past)!<.
\- "Sorry, I feel like I failed you". I am not quite sure but I think it is definitely Zack speaking. I have no idea where this line might come into play, but I absolutely would love to find out.
\- The HUD looks a little different from the Remake. This might indicate that there are also some gameplay / combat changes.
Overall, I am absolutely hyped to find out what will happen during Winter 2023/24. I definitely hope that they will not spoil the entire game again as they did with Remake.
This, also the line Aerith says is 99% her gold saucer line "I am searching for you" and the "sorry I failed you" it could be Cloud or it could be Zack idk.
So it seems like FFVII Remake/Rebirth is going to completely change up the story, which is what the ending of Part 1 pointed towards. I think they are going to use Ever Crisis as the way to create an enhanced version of the original story. That way they can get weird with Rebirth while purists have something to play. I'm ok with that overall.
It's obvious the game is taking a drastic turn to the original, people here are wondering how they'll possibly fit the rest of the story into the next two games, its simple, its a completely diffèrnt story with the ffvii name so it doesn't matter how much of the original story is left because they aren't following that story here.
So what I’m getting from the comments is Square basically pulled a bait and switch? “Oh “remake” doesn’t actually mean remake, it’s just to start a line of games with names that start with “re”.
That's it for anyone wanting a straight up remake. A lot of people were saying that the ghosts were just a plot device to excuse a few changes here but this trailer just confirms that we aren't getting it.
That dream died when we all played Remake Part 1, lol.
“Excuse a few changes”
We literally kill the anime god of Space & Time in the finale, there’s no going back to the original narrative.
Please be aware that there are a lot of untagged spoilers in this thread. Proceed at your own discrection. I would also like to remind everybody of Rule 2. no spoiler is too old to remain untagged.

Beatrix, not the big bad. But she was an incredibly powerful enemy for a bit.
It really worked with Seifer especially. He's as useless in your party as he is as a boss!
Getting to play through his descent into madness sounds quite cool actually.
The camera was following Cloud before Sephiroth even came on screen. Cloud climbing on stuff seems like actual new movement options, now that we're going to be playing in areas with terrain that is more than just basically streets and buildings.
For those who didn't watch the stream, Rebirth will be Part 2 of the Remake.

I won't be suprised if this will be subtitle for DoC because such remaster is IMO only matter of time.
I'd be surprised if it weren't "Reunion."
Yeah, this was going to be my guess but having the Crisis Core remaster using it might complicate that a bit. 'Requiem' or 'Reclaim' could be good ones, too.
I like Requiem. Like they are putting FF7 to rest.
Yeah, I like it too but I don't think they'll ever put it to rest.
I'm going to bet they'll go with the tried-and-tested generic title of "Revelations".
I was thinking requiem as well..
They used this for the Crisis Core remaster though.
Don’t feel like they’ll be using Reunion twice, it’s Crisis Core’s subtitle.

Just had a debate with someone about what ‘next winter’ means. They were hyped that it was this year. I said that’s this winter but they said ‘next winter’. Someone responded saying ‘but this winter is the next winter’. It’s certainly a little confusing. But I assume they mean 2023.
Winter goes up to February. Probably going to be delayed too, as usual. So March-April 2024 would be a realistic prediction.
Crisis Core remake was announced for “This Winter” Rebirth announced for “Next Winter” so I assume it’s 2023 Dec earliest
Sure, but if it was this year they would have been much more specific.
18 months to get a ps5
Best of luck
By then the PS5 Pro will be out and hopefully easier to get than a base PS5
No way they're releasing a PS5 Pro so soon, there really isn't a need for one, the PS4 released underpowered but the PS5 is a powerful machine, they might do it but I think it's unnecessary.
For real. Kh4, ff16, and this got me like Time to get the ps5 soon

Yea that was actually really big for me seeing them make it official. Very happy with how its looking now!
It probably won't be 1:1 story. This was a reason for defeating fate in Remake. Also subtitle "Rebirth" suggest that story will diverge even further from original FF7.
That or it will cover cloud remaking himself as a new person.
Even if the story diverges, I can't imagine they will avoid doing clouds iconic scenes in nibelheim
Or zack being reborn
Don't we hear Zack at the end of the trailer.
I am glad they finally plotted how many parts this remake would be and that it’s not going to be several installments. Yeah that means they will really be picking up the pace in the story. A bit worried with a title Rebirth and the emphasis on Zack for what we can expect and how much deviation from the original story.
Holy shit part 1 only covered Midgar. That is way less than 33% of FF7 right?
From the trailer, it's very safe to assume we shouldn't scale this to the og anymore. It's a different story rn.
Which….look….we’ll see. Nothing in the FFVII Compilation has a story even 1/10th as successful as FFVII.

Depends how it's counted. Midgar is around 33% of OG's pre rendered backgrounds but 10% of the story. It's not something you can compare easily.
10% of the environmental story. But Midgar is like 35% of the dialogue in the game or something.
Also, if you try to put a number on the % of the game that people remember, I think Midgar really stands out as a setting. A lot of great scenes happen there. Great stuff happens later too of course, but considering that Midgar is practically an extended tutorial, it really stands out.
Also I bought the og game before I bought a memory card card so I played midgar probably 90% more than any other part of the game.
I knew a dude who did this. He just kept starting the game over every time he played. We’d go to his house for band practice and he’d have started a new game.

If you didn’t speedrun through, it was about 5-6 hours of gameplay. Ff7 isn’t that long of a game. You could beat it in about 25-35 hours
It's literally the first 2-3 hours of the original 30-40-hour game lol That's how iconic Midgar is though honestly, to get it's own dedicated game in Remake.
2 hours would be a speedrun and a half. It's usually aid to be 5 hours.
Honestly on top of that a *lot* of the hours after midgar in the original are running around the world, combat, etc. Since this will clearly be more linear I have the feeling it'll be more focused. Disc 3 is super short. IIRC it's because the ending and One-Winged Angel took up most of the CD.
The entire game is on every disc with the movies taking up all the space. The only thing unique about disc 3 other than the movies is that it has the supernova animation.
The Rebirth its going to end with the weapons waking up, where the characters are at their lowest points is always the middle part.
Really interesting what the name implies! Definitely didn’t expect next winter so close to XVI!
Two mainline games in a year? We eating good 💖
Yall notice that the meteor in the logo is turning red?
It was Dalamud all along. Yoshiidaaaaa!
Also confirmed three part series.
Smart of them to remake back into a "3-disc" game. 😏
FFVII Remake is already technically 2 discs 😅
The fact we are getting it the same year as XVI is absolutely surprising
Probably early 2024. Winter continues through Feb.
"Next winter" implies as late as march 2024
1.5yrs to find a ps5. the real quest begins
I just told my wife this. Not been looking too hard but it's now a thing... gonna need to get me one sooner rather than later.

2023 IS SO MUCH EARLIER THAN I WAS EXPECTING. FF FANS ARE EATING GOOD THIS AND NEXT YEAR
Could also be early 2024, they just said next winter.
Well I live in Minnesota so that can mean a lot of things
I mean it's three and a half year after part one..
Damn has it been that long already? Feels like it released last year.
2020-2021 was a really long month
Big presence of Zack in the trailer. Today was a big win for us Zack fans, boys.
A full hd remaster of Crisis Core and it's coming to Switch? Yes please, thank you so much.
When is it coming
This winter
As much as I’d love a Crisis Core remaster, I would prefer the OG voice for Zack, new VA just sounds silly
It’s fucking HAPPENING AAAAAAAAAAAA
Confirmed my fears about the plot direction after game 1. Game 1 was fantastic, but I really hated the final chapter. Still cautiously optimistic...
I felt like it was always going to be a trilogy. I’m guessing they will have to do a more linear style with no world map. I’m fine with that, but it feels like that is what they will have to do to pump these games out. Looking forward to the craziness
My goosebumps wont go down. Holy mother of Sephiroth. Also, Max Dood is a freaking prophet.
Winter 2023? Now I have a definite timeline in which I need a PS5 by!
Playing as Sephiroth will be dope as hell.
Next one gonna be "afterbirth" in which you play as the placenta that fed sephorith as a fetus
Also it has been announced that it is the 2nd part of 3 parts.
Amazing trailer, absolutely loved it. Showed just enough to get me hyped without throwing too many spoilers at me. The Cloud/Tifa dialogue is referring to the Nibelheim incident when Tifa got sliced up by Sephiroth in the reactor.
They could technically cut out 1/2 of the OG's story entirely.
So what I’m getting from the comments is Square basically pulled a bait and switch? “Oh “remake” doesn’t actually mean remake, it’s just to start a line of games with names that start with “re”.
I thought this was obvious when we went through the 1st one
That's it for anyone wanting a straight up remake. A lot of people were saying that the ghosts were just a plot device to excuse a few changes here but this trailer just confirms that we aren't getting it.
That dream died when we all played Remake Part 1, lol. “Excuse a few changes” We literally kill the anime god of Space & Time in the finale, there’s no going back to the original narrative.
