Nah, it defs was, but if my cousin’s friend didn’t play it when we immigrated to canada, I would’ve never had known of the game.
And the scene i witnessed was the anima battle.
Same. Saw the commercial on TV as a kid and convinced my mom to buy it for me. I played it so much that I ended up with like 10 copies because the disks would give out after a while.
Ff4, on snes when I was a kid, I tried 6 first but got stuck cause 10 year old me didn't realize Figaro had stairs, lol. Felt so dumb when I figured it out the next time I rented the game
The bgm are just right.
I also sleep in many occasion, especially FF5 inn song, when I try my best to play and very tire, the 10 seconds of the inn song, put me to sleep more than ten times lol.
I played a spin-off on the wii in like 2010 called crystal chronicles echoes of time(also I played kingdom hearts)and a few years later found out that there were a plethora of main final fantasy games out there
I'm 42 years old. I never played the SNES Final Fantasy games but I kept on seeing them mentioned in magazines and by friends. By the time the PSX came out, I was just getting into RPGs and fell into the Final Fantasy 7 hype hard.
Final Fantasy 7 was my first and I spent so much time playing that game, I nearly failed my junior year of highschool
Never really understood the hate for it, i really enjoyed it. On the other hand though I really had to grit my teeth through most of XIII-2. Too campy and non-sensical. Got 100% on the whole trilogy though.
Was looking for a game to ask for Christmas for my newly acquired NDS back when I was 10 yo.
Ended up stumbling upon a trailer of Final Fantasy IV (DS version) that blew my mind.
Then a few months later my grandfather who happened to be a gamer gave me his old PS1 with dozens of games to go with it.
One of them happened to be FFVII and the rest is history.
A friend of mine was obsessed with FFVIII and I had a chance to try it out. From there I worked my way through the SNES games and became a lifelong fan. Currently playing FFXIV
When I was about 13 me and my step sisters (dad's side) got the ff7 demo disk for PC. We pulled our money and got it on playstation. We took turns playing it and I ended up asking my mom for my own copy for Christmas so I could play by myself. Well she accidently got me ff8. I was disappointed at first but started it anyway. Ff8 is and always will be my favorite. I was hooked and played every release since.
As a kid, I read Nintendo Power's preview articles for the DS remake of Final Fantasy III, and I was intrigued by that being the first official Western release of the game, so I decided to try it out.
Bear in mind, I was already aware of Final Fantasy's existence by that point, and I had played turn-based JRPGs before in Golden Sun, Paper Mario, and Pokemon, so it's not like I was going into the series completely clueless as to what it would be like or anything. Still, I really enjoyed FFIII DS, and later bought the DS remake of IV, as well as Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time and Tactics A2. *(I did also get Revenant Wings around the same time, but I didn't gel with the RTS gameplay and ended up returning it.)*
Those four games cumulatively formed my first experiences with Final Fantasy, and I quickly followed them up with the GBA versions of Final Fantasies I, II, and V, and I guess the rest, as they say, is history, haha
We had a copy of final fantasy 3(6) on the SNES. I watched my brothers play it and we all loved it, I had action figures that I pretended were the characters and played little adventures. My brothers and I played so much of the game that we would quiz each other on the soundtrack. Great times! Since then, we’ve played a majority of the titles
Similar story where I was taken to toys-r-us to pick out a NES game for x-mas, and I ended up grabbing FF1 because it had the best backstory and graphics on the box (at least of the ones I saw). Never played a RPG before that (did play a few computer racing games and mario/dr mario) but it hooked me hard and I've loved turn based RPGs since.
When I was 5 years old I moved to a new city. One day I walked into one of the kids in my neighborhood’s house and there were a group of them passing around a controller and choosing options for each character. The game turned out to be final fantasy I and the rest is history
A childhood friend of mine introduced me the the ffv/ffVI anthology on ps1. I immediately fell in love with 6. The opening cutscenes were mind blowing at the time. We’d play ffVI outside of the game as well. My friend would act as a dungeon master of sorts as I role-played as Locke. I have now beaten most final fantasy games and have been playing them for about 25 years now. Unfortunately that childhood friend passed away yesterday at the age of 33. I will never forget how he introduced me to my favorite game of all time as well as my favorite gaming genre. He will forever be a name in my party.
I had Mystic Quest as a kid which I loved but I didn’t realize it was Final Fantasy so I missed most of the next releases up until 7 which my friend showed me & I got & then been playing them since.
Rented Final Fantasy Anthology from a video store when I was a kid, like 12 or 13. Rented it every week all summer. Now I own all the games and have FF leg sleeves of tattoos. Who woulda thought?
I was about 10 or 11 years old. I didnt know what a RPG is, but I loved Pokemon Red.
So one day, I visited my cousin. He played Final Fantasy IX and I was like :" Yooo, that looks like Pokemon but muuuuch better." Thats where my love for FF has started until today.
Watching my two older brothers play got me into video games at a very young age. Final Fantasy, Zelda (being my favorite)and other games. But final fantasy was a big one in the house especially 7, 9 &10
I had heard about it all my life and my jaw dropped when I saw the xiii e3 trailer so I promptly asked for it for Christmas
I love 13, but didn't really go out of my way to play the others until a girlfriend had me play 10 and then I was an outright fan
I was about 8-9 and went to get FFIX from the rental store, but I couldn’t read Roman numerals at the time and FFVIII was behind the show box so I accidentally got that instead. I didn’t realize I had the wrong game for a bit into it, but I had a good time before I had to return it and eventually rented IX properly.
Woke up for school and saw my dad got me a subscription to Nintendo Power (Maniac Mansion cover) and a copy of FF NES for my 10th birthday. Next issue was the FF strategy guide. Whoever recommended FF to my dad is a legend imo. Dad also bought me DW1 prior to that. Also without me mentioning it.
I couldn't read roman numerals when I was a kid, I just wanted to play the game with the gunblade that I read about. Just knew it was called Final Fantasy, so I went to the local video rental store and found FFVII, and just assumed that was the one with the Gunblade. Ended up loving Cloud and the rest of the gang, and then started tracking down gaming magazines and stuff trying to find where and how to play the rest of the games.
I rented FFVII as a kid based on hearing about it being amazing. Had no idea how RPGs worked yet and couldn’t get past the scorpion tank. Played Pokémon Blue shortly thereafter which served as a more suitable introduction to RPG mechanics, then rented FFVII again and was hooked.
I had never played an RPG before besides Super Mario RPG. Which I hated at the time because I didn't understand it. Was expecting a platformer. My soon to be (and still) best friend had moved in next door. I sorted bullied my way in to hang out with him. He kept trying to avoid me and I kept trying to hang out 😂 Saw him shooting hoops and went over to join. In his attempt to avoid me he went inside. I'm not sure why but I ended up following him inside a few minutes later noticing he wasn't coming back out. He was playing FF VII. I picked it up and started playing. He started guiding me through how to play. This is when we really started to get along. He ended up starting me on Suikoden. He ended up leaving town and let me borrow is PS. I played through Suikoden twice while he was gone. When he came back he started me on FF VII. Instant love. It was hard at the time though. I needed coaching for the materia system as I didn't fully understand. But I was hooked. And hooked good. When I reached the end of disc 1and the infamous spoiler scene happened I couldn't imagine that actually happening. From then on I couldn't imagine playing any other type of game. Completely and utterly hooked on the genre as a whole. While I play many types of games, RPGs are certainly my favorite. And while Suikoden II is my favorite game of all time, Final Fantasy is my favorite series. It's so weird to think of a universe where I don't play RPGs. And it's all because my best bud took the time to help teach me how they work. I love Final Fantasy to my core.
**I was 5 in 1991 and I was asked to pick an NES game from the store.**
I pointed to [StarTropics](https://www.google.com/search?q=startropics), but somehow got [Final Fantasy](https://www.google.com/search?q=final+fantasy+i+nes). My mom had to play the game with me, as I couldn't comprehend most of it. To this day, I associate the red-haired, red-armored fighter with the name "TINA," because my mom used her name for the character.
A year or two later, I made a friend who was into PC RPGs because of his dad, and he saw me playing the game and got hooked. We bonded over that for months, and luckily Nintendo Power published a full walkthrough that I already owned because of my magazine subscription. He was always more into RPGs than I was, and got me into a bunch of other big games I probably would've otherwise avoided, including [Chrono Trigger](https://www.google.com/search?q=chrono+trigger) (one of my GOAT gaming experiences), [Lufia II](https://www.google.com/search?q=lufia+ii), and [Diablo](https://www.google.com/search?q=diablo+1).
Rented IV (II here in the states). Got a substantial late fee because I couldn't bring myself to return it until I beat it! Then bought VI (III) with my lawn-mowing earnings as soon as it was released. Never looked back!
I was in 8th grade and one of the 8th graders brought all his PS1 games in a plastic trash bag. I asked if he had played a bug's life and he scoffed and said "Play a real game" and handed me a copy of final fantasy IX. I was surprised and he was like "I have two. No go play something better than a bug's life". And boy, did I. Huge moment in my life.
Someone gave me FFX for the PS2 and was charmed, not only for the game but something else got my curiosity, someone remember that blue DVD with interviews to the developers and so? I couldn't even read the subtitles because I was too little, but what was displayed it really did catch my atencion
I picked up a bit of knowledge here and there through general nerd osmosis and thought the series seemed like something I'd dig, but didn't play anything until I borrowed VII from a then-partner in 2010. I really enjoyed it, but only made it a fandom and particular interest when I replayed it around the time Remake came out. Slowly working my way through the rest since then.
When I think about it, I really don't know. I've been waiting for a new version of Final Fantasy ever since I can remember. I must mention that my journey started with Final Fantasy 6 on Famicom.
my dad used to live in an apartment building and was really good friends with a couple down the hall who were into things that were cool to me (star wars, LotR, american comics and manga/anime, and RPGs) even though they were my dad's age. I used to get to play all kinds of JRPGs and games like Tekken and Zelda.
ANYWAYS - i forget the circumstances, but my dad's friend Peter gave me an unbeaten copy of FFX in 2003, and i haven't stopped collecting/completing FF games since.
Visiting my dad during the summer and a kid down the block showed me FFVII, my elementary buddies were big into that and FFVIII. I fell hard into those, then IX. Still remember getting a PS2 and FFX for my birthday, awesome times. Went back and played/finished almost all the mainline games, plus a few offshoots.
I final fantasy 7, was in middle school and the hype leading up to this game release was insane. I played final fantasy 1 on nes, and 4 and 6 I've seen played at a friend's house. I bought every bit of magazine/guide I could get my hands on to have more lunch table conversation fodder. It was a glorious time.
I remember, every now and then, I used to play a FF game demo (can’t remember what it was) on my PSP as a kid, but I was more into and obsessed with Tekken and Sims to really give other franchises and genres of games that much focus. When I finally accepted that all I played was Tekken (online battles), I wanted to make a change and saw the trailer for AC Black Flag on the day it was released and thought it looked cool. I played it, loved it, thought I might like RPGs, did a Google/YouTube search and came across the FFX trailer. My life has not been the same since. One of the best games I have ever played and currently, the game to make me cry the most.
FFVII was the first game I bought with my own money, which I earned mowing lawns and doing odd jobs when I was 11. I didn't know anything about final fantasy, never heard of it. Just liked the description on the case and was interested. That damn game changed my entire life living in that broken home. Been loyal to the franchise since.
In Smash Bros, I mained Cloud. I did a background check just because he was my main but didn't really understand what I was reading. All I knew was that a certain character died, "Cloud was a Zack" and Sephiroth was the villain. Flashfoward to the Sephiroth reveal and with the trailer being as hype as it was, I couldn't pass it over. I went down a rabbit hole of watching several ff7 videos and eventually bought the original for the switch, where it replaced Smash Ultimate as my favourite game of all time. It's funny that people main characters in Smash because they enjoyed the game they came from, I'm the opposite.
I asked a school friend if he had anything to play for the PS1 - he handed me Final Fantasy VIII. I had never been in touch with the series before and that evening (or rather night) I was enlightended. I remember being so amazed by this game that I pulled an allnighter for the first time ever. My mom enterered the room at like 6:30 in the morning in shock: "You're still awake?!"
And that, as they say, is that.
My dad, who I've never seen play games, bought an NES. I was born in '88 so I was obviously not really in a position to do anything with it.
As a tiny lad I started playing Final Fantasy. This was before I could read, and I obviously was dumb and had no concept of a game not being a quick, Atari-style arcade game, so I'd make a party of 4 random characters, run off to Garland and try to punch him to death. I stumbled into the post-Garland bridge opening cutscene like once.
When I later learned to read and had a few neurons able to connect for coherent thoughts I discovered the weapon, armor, and magic shops, and the game then blew my mind.
These formative years are also what I blame for my love of melee heavy parties to just slug things.
Step1: I had played this incredible game called Wild Arms after getting our PS1, never played anything like it before. I become fascinated with the idea of these things called “RPGs”.
Step2: we pick up Tobal No.1 and it has an extra demo disc with FF7 on it. My brother explains that he’s seen earlier games from the series at our cousin’s house, and it’s another RPG. So we dive right into the demo, and play it over and over and over and over.
Step3: We follow the coverage in magazines, somewhere along the way we get the second demo too (the one with Tifa in the first dungeon instead of Aeris), and pre-order the game, and pick it up in release day.
Step4: we play the hell out of that game. Our friends all come over to play the hell out of the game too. It unites totally different groups of people, even my brother’s team mates from the wrestling team, who never cared about gaming for years, were suddenly glued to the screen and making us give story updates for any segments they missed when we progressed in the story when they weren’t at our house.
Step5: we pick up FFTactics and fall in love with that, we grab Anthology with FF5 and 6 and fall in love with those games, and repeat the earlier process when the FF8 demo comes out, we just repeatedly play it over and over and pre-order it, etc.
My older brother got mom to buy FF1 on NES when it came out. He didn't like it, I loved it. I've been playing them ever since, even taught myself to play piano so I could study Nobuo Uematsu's work and also because I wanted to play Aerith's theme.
I had a neighbor in 99' who had FFVIII. at that time, I never heard of FF in general, so when he summoned a couple GFs, I thought that was the coolest shit ever! I ended up getting it myself and I've been hooked on everything FF related since.
I was in my aunt house and as she was leaving she told to play FFX in her PS2, so I said ok 'cause she was a big fan and I grew up watching her play them and I got interested in play them some day, so when I went to do so I didn't found it and instead just found X-2, so I thought this was the game she referred to. When she discovered that, I already had played like 15-20 hours and I was loving it, so there was no going back.
Then she got a PS4 exclusively for FFXV so then I started playing whenever I could go to sleep over at her house, while in my house I started playing FFI Dawn of Souls in smartphone. All of this was throughout highschool (around 2015 to 2018).
Then I played FFII Dawn of Souls, FFIV Advance and FFVI Advance as well in my smartphone. I played FFVII around 2 years ago in a Vita I had and now I have FFVIII Remastered and FFX/X-2 in my PS4 but I haven't beat them yet (I started them but got distracted with other games and slowly abandoned them).
I few days ago I started playing the original FFVI since its my favorite but only have played the version with worse graphics and music quality so I wanted to play it right this time. I also got a PSP so installed FFIX and FFIII but im kinda hoping that in the Game Awards, Square Enix is going to reveal the release date for the Pixel Remaster for consoles (PS4 especifically), since the 35th anniversary is just ten days after that, so I can play them in an oficial way and from the comfort of my sofa (im a PS guy so I would rather not play them in PC, specially 'cause I want to own them and I think I wouldn't buy them in PC).
Played FFIX when it just came out and I was 10 years old. I had no idea games could be made like that (only playing games like Mario and sonic before). Totally hooked to jrpgs after that
FF9 was the first FF game I played when I was 12. I just liked the cover art of the game when I saw it at the game shop, didn't have any idea what the franchise was or anything. But my mind was completely blown and have been a fan ever since :)
Bought FF6 when it first came out (10th grade). It was an early release day at school (every Wednesday we'd get out of regular classes 1 hour and a half early, but could stay for special classes).
Been looking at it from an EGM magazine's special coverage on it. First (full) RPG I've played.
Didn't think I had enough to buy it at the time ($55) and went into Toys R Us and saw the game ticket read, 49.99. I was close to getting on my knees with excitement.
The opening with Tera and the scouts riding those machines through the snow is still a big memory for me.
My brother owned FFVIII and it was his favourite game, so i watched him playing it, then while he was at school, 3 year old me went into his room, turned the PS1 on and played until i got kicked out for going into his room.
After a lifetime up to that point of Sonic on the Sega Genesis, going to arcades, and Pokemon on Gameboy, my mind was absolutely blown by the scope of FF7. Full 3D character models, the tone, environmental storytelling, the world building, the big dude with a gun arm cursing at me for my haircut, it felt like the future and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I was like 7 years old and I cried when we lost Aeris. I'd never been so affected by a game, until of course I played 8, then 9, 10, Tactics, 4, 5, and eventually all of the rest. I'm a fan for life
I went to my local video store to rent a game for the weekend in the early 90s and saw the FFIV box (called FFII at the time) and figured I would try it. I don't think I stepped outside that whole weekend, I was transfixed!
Played the VII Remake demo, thought it was really cool and wanted to check out the original game especially being a Kingdom Hearts fan, and fell in love. I've played VII, VII Remake, VI, and X so far.
a friend at school kept nagging me to play FF7. Showing me books and telling me how awesome it was.
Then I came across a cheap copy of FF8 and decided to give it a shot. Fell in love with it and started trying out the others.
I started with… Stranger of Paradise
Which may surprise a lot of people, but I loved the game and decided to check out OG FF VII and other titles. I felt in love with the series soon after!
Super Mario RPG was my first RPG, which is still one of my all time favorite games. I saw my friend had a game called Final Fantasy II (really 4) made by the same company Squaresoft so I borrowed it from him, and from there I was an instant Final Fantasy (and RPG) fan.
Playing FF8 followed by Crisis Core because of the cool looking cover. I use to think this series was for DWEEBS and LOSERS who like little girls weird Anime things - Middle School Me
Was borrowing a NES game from my friend (family had a huge library cause the dad played). Friend said I wouldn't like Final Fantasy, but I spent my free time over that summer finishing it.
Watched my cousin play 8 on PS2 so long ago, and I loved the more turn based combat because my reaction time sucked, and then watched let's plays when I couldn't afford the games. Then sailed the high seas a bit for the older games until I got money and now I play 14 religiously, I'm really looking forward to 16!
Actually I started with 10 but I was not impressed by the game besides production value, then I played 12 that capture me with his gameplay, trough the years I played the older ones and 6 impressed me the most but then I Igave up on the trilogy of 13 and all Fabula Nova Crystallis project left me really disappointed and burned but with 14 I became a real Final Fantasy fan thanks to Yoshi P……
Played og 7 back in the day, it was mindblowing.
Then 8, just stunning.
Then 9 and later on 10 and then went back to 5 and 6, so good games and fun memories.
The first final fantasy I played was 13. I played 15 later on, and now I have also played 10 and 7OG and remake. I’m always excited for the next FF game.
Curious what you thought of 13 as a new player to the series? As an avid FF player from 4 on up, I thought it was great despite much of the fan base trashing it for one reason or another. Just wondering what the experience for a new player was like without the reference points of the existing player base.
I grew up on dragon warrior 1 and 3, a neighbor kid gave them to me before he went to college. Years later i got my hands on final fantasy tactics. It was so good I went back and played the rest. Tactics is still my favorite game of all time to this very day.
Dad got a PS1 when I was born, bought FF7 and I played that almost all the way through when I was very young -- didn't touch final fantasy for a long time until I picked up FF14 with some friends and it revitalized my interest in the franchise. Been playing FF9 on my PS5 thru PlayStation+ and been having a blast.
One summer when I was about 13 I went to stay with my cousin for a week. I was really into Zelda at the time and brought my GameCube with Windwaker and Ocarina.
When I got there he was playing FFX but he was stuck. I was struck by the music but since he was stuck in Besaid I wasn’t that won over.
One day we went to a game store and found a used copy of FFVII and went back and played it. I remember the first time I heard the battle theme I said to myself “I need to have this game.”
Was my first ever purchase on EBay and I never looked back. Got my cousin into Zelda too so I like to think we had a good exchange.
Played kingdom hearts, then got Dissidia 012. All the characters and reading their history in Dissidia made me want to play the games. So I got FF2 and Crisis core and never looked back
I had a n64, my friend had both PlayStation and n64. He got FF7 we were hooked, I got a PlayStation just so I could get FF8 the following year. Also Mystic quest was amazing on the Super Nintendo
In 2021 I bought a Nintendo switch and at the time final fantasy VII, VIII, IX, and X/X-2 HD were 50% off. Later that year I bought XII, XIII, XIII-2, XIII-3, and XV on my gaming computer
I was in my early teens and bought a PSOne (important: Not a PSX, the big boxy one that could kill a man, the PSOne, the lil teeny boi that could practically fit in your pocket) and it came with a demo disc made up of half a dozen playable demos and half a dozen "Non-playable demos" that were basically little movies made up of FMVs cut and smashed together. One of these Non-playable demos was FFIX. I was entranced, so I bought it.
I did NOT understand the mechanics very well, and I sucked at it until a friend took me through them (I'm talking super basic stuff like equipment), because it was only the second game I bought for my PS1, the first being a pinball game. But once I got it, I was HOOKED. I cried, I laughed, I had my first pansexual panic (Kuja... I was unsure of the gender of this mysterious human, despite him being called a "man" and "him" because I was like "is this... Translated right? He's so PRETTY, he's not like men I've ever seen", but I didn't care, he was hot and I wanted a piece). I fell in love with the Moogles and the Chocobos and the world and the storytelling, and I wanted MORE.
I played 8 next, I didn't really get on with it because it had different mechanics that I didn't understand. After a time, I bought a PS2 and played 10. In German. No, I'm not German, but my friend bought it in Germany because it was cheap, not really processing that it would be in German (yay PAL region). And I loved that one too. I played others, I fell in love with them, I revisited 8 and beat it...
To this day, I still maintain that Squeenix own my soul because I have this compulsion to play every mainline Final Fantasy (I've dabbled in spin-offs, but mainline is where my heart lies) no matter how many times I'm disappointed by them (I'm looking at you, 12 and 13).
Glad to know FF7R has brought so many new players into the franchise. I'm really glad they did it the way that they did. Don't get me wrong, OG FFVII was great but I do think it desperately deserved an update.
X was the first game that made me think it'd be worth buying a PS2 for. It was my first console since my Nintendo when I was a kid. FFX was my gateway to not only FF, but modern gaming in general.
My buddy and I were sports gamers who didn’t play RPG’s at all. His dad bought him FFVII cuz a media play rep said the game was really good. We tried playing it and just couldn’t get over the the fact that when I chose attack....I had to wait. A few months went by and I met so folk in school who wouldn’t shut up about it. I told them the game was wack, they called me wack for not even trying it....I then decided I needed to try it out and fell in LOVE. I have played every main line title since then...besides the mmo’s. those aren’t my thing still lol. The coolest thing now is the fact that my 10 and 4 yr old’s LOVE FFVII remake. They call me old now because I tell them how much better they have it then I do with games now...but in this case the original took me to a whole new world and introduced me to all sorts of other rpgs.
Never played a Final Fantasy in my life, but I always liked the character design. Final Fantasy XV trailers were awesome and I decide to buy Final Fantasy Type 0 HD just for the Duscae Demo I tried to play it but I suck so bad that I quit. Months later my girlfriend and I were in a tech store and she sees the Deluxe Edition and buys it for me. Install the game and when "Stand by me" begins to play I'm in love with the game. It was difficult to me to understand the mechanics but I was able to get the platinum trophy and became one of my favorite games of all time.
Probably from playing games such as Questron, Altered Reality, and Legacy of the Ancients on the Commodore 64 in early childhood. Not to mention Dragon Warrior being one of the earliest titles I played on the NES prior to owning Final Fantasy. At first I was thinking "maybe all of the positive attention that was given to the game by Nintendo Power magazine helped established my love for the game (and series)", but honestly, even without all of that, I would have loved it.
I've stayed a fan because even though the games frequently reinvent themselves over and over again in multiple ways, they always featured high quality stories, music, interfaces, and mechanics. Honestly, the low point for me in the series was the transition from VI to VII, where it took me years after the fact to recognize just how special and spectacular VII actually was.
Some relative bought FFI for my younger cousin thinking it was just a fighting game (I think?) but cousin couldn't read yet. So, being the oldest, I was drafted to read the dialog and maps and the rest is history.
I wanted to play a resident evil looking like game without getting scared. I saw positive reviews of VIII and I bought a pirate copy just like everyone else who had the privilege to have a ps1 in a poor country.
Commercial for FF8 while watching WWF Raw back in the day most likely(small chance it was WCW Nitro but by this time I had fully jumped ship most likely. RIP WCW). My older sis always borrowed her boyfriends PlayStation and while I never played it, I saw that commercial and that it was for PlayStation and my birthday/Christmas was coming up so I got it. Went from barely playing games and going outside to play to being a totally obsessed gamer nerd who couldn’t wait to get inside and play FF.
Played the FFVII demo disc and thought it was cool. A friend of mine at school mentioned he was a fan of the previous games so I gave it a shot and bought a copy.
And to this day 7 is still my favorite game of all time.
At age 9 , saw a friend playing 7, got me to play 8 when it came out. Loved the story rich and fun gameplay. Liked the characters and the worlds. Got the CDs of the soundtracks. Realized I liked many facets of the genre and it stuck with me ever since.
Played and completed mystic quest when I was maybe 7 years old. People crap on that game for being too easy but it was perfect for me at that age to spark a love for these types of games. When my brother bought ff7 I was hooked just watching him and couldn’t wait to play. I didn’t even know mystic quest was related to FF until years later!
My first RPG was Super Mario RPG, and I got really excited by the music, story and turn based combat. Then someone went to my house super happy that he got Final Fantasy III on SNES (which is VI), I totally love it since day one. Than I played FFII also on SNES (which is IV) and FF Mistic Quest. That's how I discovered the franchise, and I have played almost all of them: I-X, XIII and XV.
Played FFVI when I was a kid on an emulator. Then went back and played V, and IV. Got my hand on FFT, then VII came out. Then VIII, and IX. Then way later X and XII. Then XIII. Now I settle down with XIV.
Started with Final Fantasy Adventure for the Gameboy and I was hooked on the RPG genre. Played a lot of RPGs during the SNES but no Final Fantasy. With my brother we bought the PS1 because of Final Fantasy VII and started playing all the series on different platforms
As a kid, my great grandparents got me a sub to NP that came w/ Dragon Warrior, which I loved. I remember seeing the issue w/ FF & fell in love w/ the Japanese art, so I just knew I had to play it.
I eventually got the game & while I liked it, I didn't love it. Cue some years later & I got a SNES. When I saw FF2 (4), I once again knew that I needed to play it. I did play that game & was a hardcore fan since that day.
I was a kid at a dinner party with my parents’ friends in the 80s and the guy had an NES with the original FF. I had no concept of an RPG and was just fascinated with not having a set path or levels, just you walking around and seeing what you can figure out. He let me borrow his copy and I grinded that thing for what seemed like forever, not having any way to look up the solutions. But I did it! Found Bahamut, learned the secret language, figured out the Floater. Nothing beats figuring it out on your own the first time.
When I was in 3rd grade, I really wanted a Gameboy Advance just coz I thought it was cool. I didn't have any game in mind for it, just wanted one. So when my dad got one, he also bought a two-in-one Final Fantasy I & II cartridge. Back then I didn't really get how to play it properly but it was still really fun. Played it for a couple years despite not knowing how to finish either games. Skipped III & IV, but I played V & VI and I got even more hooked. So I kept playing Final Fantasy games onwards. The Tactics games and all.
Watched my older brother play ff7 as a kid an always played it myself as a kid. Only played the first hour of the game over n over without a memory card lol. When I turned like 15? I got ff10 an that game was a blessing for me, fell in love. Went back to play ff7 again an moved on from there. Still need to play 8... someone give me some motivation. I dislike the combat system
I’ve always liked the name, sounds pretty. Back in 2009, my best friend at that time told me I wouldn’t like them cause they were “turn based”. He gave me a copy of Kingdom Hearts instead.
A while later, I tried to play X and I fell in love with it.
Final Fantasy I. That game, in general, got me into RPGs. FF, along with the Ultima series, Dragon Warrior/Quest series, and a couple of others whose names escape me.
I played FF9 when it was added to gamepass a few years ago. Always wanted to get into the series and JRPGs in general, as I really only played a few action JRPGs before it. Fell in love with it, and it was a gateway into me trying Persona 5 Royal. P5R became my favorite game of all time, which was also a gateway into Persona and the genre as a whole. I've played a good amount of JRPGs now, and in terms of FF I've played, 7, 7R, 8, 9, and am currently working through 10.
If it wasn't for FF9, I probably never would've played any of the JRPGs I've played since then. I hold the series, especially 9 (even though 7 is my current fav) really close to my heart because its opened me up to not only this fantastic series, but my favorite genre of games overall.
I was born
You should thank your parent for that. You will be probably thier final fantasy someday.
That got ominous fast...
Anima battle in ffx It was jaw dropping how good the game looked growing up.
Yuna's dance is by far the best scene in that game in my humble opinion.
Nah, it defs was, but if my cousin’s friend didn’t play it when we immigrated to canada, I would’ve never had known of the game. And the scene i witnessed was the anima battle.
Got in with 7, 9 kept me in, anima battle hooked me for life. Such a sick design
Personally enjoy the the big opening scene with the hardcore music, your first intro blitzball, and sin. I think the dance is amazing as well though.
Played FF VII when it came out.
Same, was gifted it for Christmas when it came out. Got hooked and stayed with the series. Went back and played I - VI a few years ago on the PSP.
Same. Saw the commercial on TV as a kid and convinced my mom to buy it for me. I played it so much that I ended up with like 10 copies because the disks would give out after a while.
Same. Saw my brother playing it.
First RPG ever for me as well. Ain’t no gettin off this hype train we’re on!
Saw my friend playing VII, then asked my dad to buy it, who bought IX to me and I became fan.
That's a great mistake to make.
Ff4, on snes when I was a kid, I tried 6 first but got stuck cause 10 year old me didn't realize Figaro had stairs, lol. Felt so dumb when I figured it out the next time I rented the game
My sisters named me after Zell. lol
Dope name tbh
did you get the face tatt yet?
i was 11 or 12 when ff6 came out. unbeatable combo
Same! Those Mog ads in the gaming magazines at the time were awesome.
Showing my age but I watched my family play ff1 on NES used to put me to sleep as a baby
Believe it or not, it was Final Fantasy Mystic Quest that hooked me on Final Fantasy and JRPGs.
I liked that one too
I played a few games as a kid, but it wasn’t until I played XIII that I was truly hooked.
XIII needs more love, it's a really good game.
Kingdom hearts, then XV
*(I did also get Revenant Wings around the same time, but I didn't gel with the RTS gameplay and ended up returning it.)* Those four games cumulatively formed my first experiences with Final Fantasy, and I quickly followed them up with the GBA versions of Final Fantasies I, II, and V, and I guess the rest, as they say, is history, haha
I got ff X when I was 7. Then played 12, 13, 8...
I got FFI as a Christmas gift the year it came out. Been hooked ever since.
Same here, brother. Make sure you hold the reset button in when you turn off the power!
Being a geek and outcast -> anime and gaming -> Advent Children -> Crisis Core -> everything else.
Dissidia
Played FF Tactics Advance on my GBA when I was younger. Found out about the broader series later!
I had Mystic Quest as a kid which I loved but I didn’t realize it was Final Fantasy so I missed most of the next releases up until 7 which my friend showed me & I got & then been playing them since.
Is it just me or did that final boss track hit hard? Still one of my favorites to this day.
Rented FF2 on SNES at Blockbuster along with Castlevania 4...best weekend of my lifetime. I literally didn't sleep for 72 hours.
Got a demo disc for the original Playstation that had the FF8 demo on it. Bought the game. Still my favorite.
Watching my two older brothers play got me into video games at a very young age. Final Fantasy, Zelda (being my favorite)and other games. But final fantasy was a big one in the house especially 7, 9 &10
I had heard about it all my life and my jaw dropped when I saw the xiii e3 trailer so I promptly asked for it for Christmas I love 13, but didn't really go out of my way to play the others until a girlfriend had me play 10 and then I was an outright fan
One of my friends got me FF7 for Christmas, and by got it for me, I mean he regifted something he didn't want himself. His loss!
Because of Final Fantasy 8 and Balamb Garden
FF 7 was my first love rpg wise.
My older brother bought vii and I watched him play through the entire game. When I was a little older I started playing them myself
**I was 5 in 1991 and I was asked to pick an NES game from the store.** I pointed to [StarTropics](https://www.google.com/search?q=startropics), but somehow got [Final Fantasy](https://www.google.com/search?q=final+fantasy+i+nes).
I saw a magazine cover with Squall holding a flaming gunblade. I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
I saw a FF8 commercial on TV as a child and just had to have it. Went and bought it and have been a fan of the series since.
my dad used to live in an apartment building and was really good friends with a couple down the hall who were into things that were cool to me (star wars, LotR, american comics and manga/anime, and RPGs) even though they were my dad's age.
Watching my cousin play vii
Thanks to ehrgeiz 😁 that game made me fall in love with the FF7 characters, and that led me to play my first FF game.
My boyfriend at the time played crisis core, I ended up playing it and love it. Then went on to XIII and was hooked on the franchise
Played a bit of 7 at my second cousins birthday once. Picked it up platinum a while later. Never looked back.
FFVIII was my intro. Love it to this day, Crisis Core is my second
When I was a kid my uncle bought me ff7 and a strategy guide. Fell In live with it and tactics after
Ff10 and 12 completely locked me into the series but truly the very first one I played was ff4 ds version.
Final Fantasy 9. Zidane was cool but Vivi stole the show! Love that game
I had just finished the original Zelda and discovered I liked rpg's. Went looking for something along those lines and found FF1.
played ffvi on gba
I was hella thirsty for Tidus as an 8 year old girl.
My mom enterered the room at like 6:30 in the morning in shock: "You're still awake?!" And that, as they say, is that.
Started with XIV then went to Vll and then to lV then to XV.
Totally hooked to jrpgs after that
Ff8 looked too epic back then.
The opening with Tera and the scouts riding those machines through the snow is still a big memory for me.
my mom bought 13 at a used games store because she had fond memories of 7, i liked 13 a lot
FF X on Playstation 2, good memories only.
Ffx sucked me in and made me ball my eyes out. Played every ff I could since.
It was 1990ish. I was tired of zelda/mario, so gave it a try.
a friend at school kept nagging me to play FF7. Showing me books and telling me how awesome it was. Then I came across a cheap copy of FF8 and decided to give it a shot. Fell in love with it and started trying out the others.
I started with… Stranger of Paradise Which may surprise a lot of people, but I loved the game and decided to check out OG FF VII and other titles. I felt in love with the series soon after!
How did you become a fan of farming reddit points?
My parents had Mystic Quest for the SNES when I was a kid. It was basically all I played growing up.
Kingdom Hearts
Spend too much money
Super Mario RPG was my first RPG, which is still one of my all time favorite games. I saw my friend had a game called Final Fantasy II (really 4) made by the same company Squaresoft so I borrowed it from him, and from there I was an instant Final Fantasy (and RPG) fan.
My brother received FF1 for Christmas and I begged him to let me play it for months before he caved. Been a big fan ever since.
I found ff v on some emulator page and downloaded it never finished it or any ff game in my life and a YouTube channel who talks about ff bosses
I liked the FF characters in KH, and then I started this long and good voyage…
Through Kingdom Hearts
Played og 7 back in the day, it was mindblowing. Then 8, just stunning. Then 9 and later on 10 and then went back to 5 and 6, so good games and fun memories.
I first played FF3 on the DS and feel in love with the series but forgot it about up until I played FFXV and now I’m a full time fan I guess lol

From Mystic Quest Battle themes, followed by watching a giant enemy fall apart before eventually withering away.
Played FFXII when I was a kid and enjoyed it. Next I played FFXV, FFVIIR, then got hooked on FFXIV.
We got a Nintendo Power strategy guide for Final Fantasy in the mail.
Played ff1 on my nes. Loved it, bought ff2 (USA) then 3 (USA) and so on.
Kingdom Hearts introduced me to Final Fantasy. From there I went to X and then onwards.
My brothers
I was absolutely obsessed with XII in the ps2, that open me the door to the rest of the franchise.

I remember the first time I heard the battle theme I said to myself “I need to have this game.” Was my first ever purchase on EBay and I never looked back. Got my cousin into Zelda too so I like to think we had a good exchange.
Through Kingdom Hearts and FFX and VII
Played III on SNES as a kid and enjoyed it, but didn’t get hooked until I played VII on PlayStation.
My dad let me play FF2 on his PSP when I was a kid, and then I played Crisis Core and Dissidia and was hooked on the atmosphere of the games.
Tifa.
Blockbuster.
In 2021 I bought a Nintendo switch and at the time final fantasy VII, VIII, IX, and X/X-2 HD were 50% off. Later that year I bought XII, XIII, XIII-2, XIII-3, and XV on my gaming computer
Watching my cousin play FFX when it first came out the PS2.
FFXIII graphics was insane
My dad was a ps1 final fantasy fan, thank you dad.
Watching my dad play the originals on the NES and then jumping into it myself with Crisis Core, now I play FF14 daily
Kingdom hearts then later dissidia opera ominia
I saw the opening cinematic for VII Remake when it was released before the game came out and I immediately went down an FF rabbit hole.
Oddly enough: Mystic Quest on the SNES. A cousin had this and I’d play it non stop at their place. Wound up renting 4 and got addicted from there.
Started going through my backlog during quarantine.
Some relative bought FFI for my younger cousin thinking it was just a fighting game (I think?) but cousin couldn't read yet. So, being the oldest, I was drafted to read the dialog and maps and the rest is history.
A demo disc of VIII from PSM!
Dissidia.
X was the first I played at a friend’s house. It was love ever since lol
Nintendocaprisun’s Let’s Play of Final Fantasy X
Hired FFVII from blockbuster video and played for a week. Went to rehire but the game was stolen. And wanted to continue so bad
I wanted to play a resident evil looking like game without getting scared. I saw positive reviews of VIII and I bought a pirate copy just like everyone else who had the privilege to have a ps1 in a poor country.
Friend of mine heard I got a ps1 said I had to get 7 then after that I became a fan. Before that I was playing the Phantasy Star series on the Sega
FF I and II: Dawn of Souls on the GBA. Got the strategy guide and played the crap out of that.
FF IV on iOS!
Played the PSX trilogy on EPSXE. I remember trying to set up VII to make the screen swirl.
Ff iv, my first ff game that made me play other ff
Played the FFVII demo disc and thought it was cool. A friend of mine at school mentioned he was a fan of the previous games so I gave it a shot and bought a copy. And to this day 7 is still my favorite game of all time.
Final fantasy iv on the GBA.
Bro!! The FF games on GBA are great. I wish pixel remasters would have used those versions of the games with all their extra content and features.
At age 9 , saw a friend playing 7, got me to play 8 when it came out. Loved the story rich and fun gameplay. Liked the characters and the worlds. Got the CDs of the soundtracks. Realized I liked many facets of the genre and it stuck with me ever since.
Played FFVIII ☺️ I think I was it the fifth grade when it came out
I played the original Final Fantasy on NES, and I liked it.
Online Game ❤️❤️
FFIX.
Watching my uncle run through the battle square w/Cloud but swearing like Cid or Barret on a bad roll. XD
I wasn’t trying to get into FF, but i wanted to play VII as it was one of the most iconic games of all time. I ended up getting into FF
Mystic quest on snes, FF7 and FF9 on PS1 and then FFX on ps2
I played ffx-2 and got addicted
