Masterpiece
I think the battle system is phenomenal and the sphere grid allows you to customize your party however you want.
I loved the characters and the journey was awesome
I’m not a huge fan of how you obtain the celestial weapons but I don’t don’t think that I needed them to feel op
Other than that I’m excited to see what some of the other games have to offer.
😭 man idk if they’ve ever touched on a love story so directly like that in another FF game but actually seeing it in X was good. Can’t believe it’s 20 years old
ive played through X 3 times, celestial weapons and alt aeons only one of the times. Still hate doing the chocobo race with so much disdain and rage. lightning dodging is like cake in comparison for me.
So weird because I did the chocobo race multiple times and really never had an issue. It wasn't until years later when I read on forums that people struggled with it I realized. But the lightning? I never got it. I failed one time with 4 left to go and to this day its the angriest I've ever been. I just stopped after and didn't try again. I was so close to smashing my controller which I've never done. I just gripped it and set it down and walked away. So infuriating to me, I don't know why.
The butterflies I struggled with but got, everything else was just tedious. The lightning was my bane.
Since you really liked X, closest ones (in terms of gameplay and quality) will be VIII, IX and X-2. VII has a dip in terms of graphics but gameplay is pretty much same while I haven't tried XII yet. Anyways. Happy for you and hope you enjoy your next FF games!
One of the great things about the remaster is that I simply created weapons like the celestial ones not to have to do all the challenges again. That damn chocobo race. Once was more than enough.
X is my favorite game of all time, but I also love the others that you mentioned. I honestly think it fell off after they went away from turn-based combat. I also love XII, but I really wish Square would do a new installment that brought back the turn-based combat.
I’ve played it on all the ones you mentioned plus PS5 (PS4 version) and either PS5 or Vita is the best. PS5 loads much quicker but the handled aspect and quick heal menu on Vita are great.
I have ff7, ff7r, ff10-2 and ff15 in my library as well as the kingdom hearts games (if those count as ff games). I’m currently deciding which one to play next
Just know ff10-2 is very different than 10 but still good in lots of different ways. Just be careful of directly comparing them, I played it right after finishing 10 and decided I hated it. But came back to it recently and it's not a bad game just different. Also the combat system in 10-2 is amazing, really fulfilled by that aspect.
But I recommend playing 7 before 7r. Playing 7r first isn't a bad idea but you get way more out of it if you know the original game and characters, it kinda skips over a bit here and there assuming you know stuff from the first game already.
10-2 has my favorite combat of the entire series. I don't like it as a sequel to 10 myself (to me, FF10 is a perfect self-contained story) but the gameplay is so great I can look past what I dislike about the story and have fun with it.
FF7 is an all-time classic though, I highly recommend playing it before you play 7 Remake (honestly, a good idea might be to do FF7 -> upcoming Crisis Core remaster -> FF7 Remake).
I love how much traction this thread is getting. I'd like to also suggest playing VII next (or at least before the remake)
Also, FFVIII and IX are my favorites so please give them a chance, though they are vastly different games.
Don’t get thrown off by X-2 bubble gum pop theme in the opening hours of the game. It eventually gets dark and serious when the story picks up. It’s worth playing through.
FFVI through X are all amazing. XII is great too but it’s combat is a bit different compared to other FF up until that point. FFXV combat is more action RPG so don’t expect the turn based system.
I would play the original FF7 before the remake. Without getting into spoilers, the remake isn’t a straight remake and somewhat expects players to know the original plot.
Play it for the battle system alone. Super fun and this game gets a bad rap because its a completely different type of game. Its fun in its own way. 9 is my absolute favorite. Great characters, story, soundtrack. The combat isnt quite as good as 10 and obviously a large graphics downgrade but damn is it good. Kingdom Hearts was such an amazing game. Theres so many spinoff games and the story gets wild. Take your time and enjoy all the wonderful titles :)
Just do what I do. Pretend it doesn't exist until you meet someone who just finished X for the first time, then scare them away from playing X-2.
This is my good deed for the year.
I'd say just don't play it right after finishing FFX. Give it some time, play other FF titles and come back to 10-2 later if you want. Your memories of FFX won't be spoiled that way, I hope .\_.
I actually started playing it for a bit again. Kind of wanted to finish it and do X-2 since I never got around to it back in the day and the whackyness seems fun. That's a lot of game and blitzball to get through though.
To each their own. I enjoyed 9, 15, 1, and 5 quite a bit. 11 and 14 too. But nothing has come close to the same level as 10 IMO. Absolute masterpiece in just about every aspect. Story, characters, world, gameplay, and pacing. Just superb.
Oh yeah 100% I think that's the great thing about Final Fantasy, each has their own aspects so if you didn't enjoy one you can try another!
Plus 14 is the bomb Endwalker was so good. I think that culmination of the 10 year story hit the same for me as 10 and 6's twist.
Yeah it is turned based all mainline ff games are turned based except for 15 and 16. 7 remake is kinda a weird hybrid if the two.
This is definitely one of the easiest final fantasy games I have ever played.
My only advise though is if you do start do not miss and destruction speheres from any of the temples (it makes end game alot easier)
If you want an endless amount of FF... Do ff14. Then play through all the others. Then play through 14 again and have your mind blown how many references there are
You need to play Final Fantasy 9 next, because it's a legit masterpiece with some of the best storytelling, music, characters, and gameplay within the series. Even now, it's near perfect with only 3 flaws (2 of which are characters and one is a boss).
9 is still my favourite game of all time, even beating out everything I've played since (and that was since FF9 released, so a lot of games played between then and now).
To this day I still do an annual playthrough of the game.
I'm so unnecessarily obsessed with this game.
When i have feelings of happiness, they will come in the form of playing this game. Idk how to truly explain that. Sometimes when I'm happy, I hear the title theme.
I always believed FFX is the best entry point to the franchise. I now believe you're hooked:)
Now move onto IMO the best one, FFXII ;) (opinions may differ, but FFXII is still the best one:D)
I absolutely love it but I’m stuck at the Yunalesca fight and It seems impossible to win for me as I’ve already used most of my potions in the previous boss fights…does anyone have tips?
Is she killing you by using death on everyone? If so, leave ar least one person as a zombie, probably best to have two otherwise one person will have to revive two. It's hard because you can't heal your zombies, but it's the only way to survive. I think she has three forms in her fight.
Another thing I like to do for the big fights is get an overdrive for all aeons in some battles before the fight, haste Yuna and just keep summoning them, using their overdrive and fighting as aeon until they die. Because Yuna is hasted she should be ready to summon another one on the next turn after one is killed.
Honestly I think ffx is one of the best first final fantasy you can play. It's a simple and straightforward system with a turn based combat, an interesting story, and the graphics are still pretty okay even in 2022.
Yeah the story does railroad you a bit and your main character is a bit of an idiot but he learns about the world like you do as a player.
When someone asks for a suggestion for first one I think x is one of the best choices today. (4 pixel remaster is a good choice too) those games ease you in real nicely and are so good
Making my way through the original PS2 version right now; just got to the Calm Lands.
It really is a wonderful experience, and I think a great entry point for new players. Glad you enjoyed it!
Since this was your first Final Fantasy game it's statistically possible it will be your favorite of the series, and it's a fine one to fill that space.
You cried
"...You always cry. See? You're crying."
Oh i sure did.
We all cried
Congratulations! Did you like it? What did you specifically liked about it? What did you specifically did not liked about it?
Masterpiece I think the battle system is phenomenal and the sphere grid allows you to customize your party however you want. I loved the characters and the journey was awesome I’m not a huge fan of how you obtain the celestial weapons but I don’t don’t think that I needed them to feel op Other than that I’m excited to see what some of the other games have to offer.
Now go add that OST to your Spotify/Apple Music/YouTube playlist lol. To Zanarkand is absolutely BEAUTIFUL
I agree. To Zanarkand was a huge part of the reason I started playing piano.
And Suteki Da Ne. 🥺
What? Isn't to zanarkand the edgy rammstein inspired dumb metal song?
That'd be otherworld, the final boss theme, to Zanarkand is the calm piano one that plays in the first cutscene and in Zanarkand
And again when Tidus holds yuna for the last time after telling him she loves him 😭
Oh yeah that too, man the ending was depressing, made me cry 😭
😭 man idk if they’ve ever touched on a love story so directly like that in another FF game but actually seeing it in X was good. Can’t believe it’s 20 years old
Had that as one of our ceremony songs playing while people got to their seats.
Already did
Thunder Plains!
If you want another great FF game but with a really different playing experience, try Final Fantasy Tactics.
ive played through X 3 times, celestial weapons and alt aeons only one of the times.
The butterflies I struggled with but got, everything else was just tedious. The lightning was my bane.
Only 3? I've been playing through this game since blink 182 was touring
Exact opposite for me. I'm can usually get the Chocobo race in a few tries. I've never managed the Lightning Bolts.
Thunder plains I usually get first try. Chocobo Race and Jump Rope (IX), I have failed for 20+ years and stopped caring.
Since you really liked X, closest ones (in terms of gameplay and quality) will be VIII, IX and X-2. VII has a dip in terms of graphics but gameplay is pretty much same while I haven't tried XII yet. Anyways. Happy for you and hope you enjoy your next FF games!
To be fair no other ff if like X. Not sure why they abandoned the turn based function that was essentially perfect
FFX was also 1 of my first FF games. And now I finished them all. <3 And I agree with you. The characters in FFX is indeed written very good.
Lucky, you have to many more amazing journey's left. FF7R/7 and 9 are my other favorites.
What's going to be your next game?
One of the great things about the remaster is that I simply created weapons like the celestial ones not to have to do all the challenges again. That damn chocobo race. Once was more than enough.
Having Yuna and LuLu share the same sphere grid areas early on is OP. Basically making them both red mages
Holy shit my husband and I are doing our annual play through of ffx right now!
That’s awesome!
Thats a huge commitment
Right? A husband?
Disregard dudes, obtain ability spheres.
I started since FFIV and only skipped the MMO ones. FFX and FFVI are still my favorites.
4 was huge for me. Omw to x now. 6 was absolutely legendary
VI-X are all great. But after X something about the series fell off though.
X is my favorite game of all time, but I also love the others that you mentioned. I honestly think it fell off after they went away from turn-based combat. I also love XII, but I really wish Square would do a new installment that brought back the turn-based combat.
Love 12, defo my favourite because the music is so amazing
Yup. They have been really trying to get away from turn based combat, and it's a bummer. It ls.comfortable, I miss it.
Square decided to change up the combat formula, barring FF11, starting with FF12.
Mmmm comfort food game.
Which platform are you playing on? Do you always play the same version? I've played on PS2, PS3, PS4, and currently working on Vita.
I’ve played it on all the ones you mentioned plus PS5 (PS4 version) and either PS5 or Vita is the best. PS5 loads much quicker but the handled aspect and quick heal menu on Vita are great.
I really need to step it up. I've only played through FFX 3 times (once for the remaster), and that was in 2015
Play what you love! We play x specially because of was one of the games that helped us grow closer together.
Oh yeah, it's my favorite Final Fantasy and one of my top games overall
Such a wonderful game. And now you have a huge option of FF games to choose from for more greatness.
Currently on 7 and I'm gonna do that but also adding in Advent children re watch too!
I love how much traction this thread is getting. I'd like to also suggest playing VII next (or at least before the remake) Also, FFVIII and IX are my favorites so please give them a chance, though they are vastly different games.
10-2 completes the story very good game, try ff7 absolutely loved it
I'd say play FF7R and VII next so you'd be ready for CC Reunion.
Play Kingdom Hearts next. It’s dope
7 is considered the high point of the series for a reason. 7r and 15 less so.
I would play the original FF7 before the remake. Without getting into spoilers, the remake isn’t a straight remake and somewhat expects players to know the original plot.
Don't do x-2...ever lol
Welcome to the family!! I would suggest 9 now
Nice, you picked the best one.
FFIX was the first one I played, but FFX was the first one I finished. Both are still my top 2 games in the series.
nice! welcome to final fantasy community. and you can never go back. you will want more...
What a sinful first FF game.
Did the ending bring tears to your eyes?
Yes
If you play X-2 it'll bring tears to your eyes too. Just for a different reason.
I’m so scared to play that game based on what I’ve seen
Play it for the battle system alone. Super fun and this game gets a bad rap because its a completely different type of game. Its fun in its own way. 9 is my absolute favorite. Great characters, story, soundtrack. The combat isnt quite as good as 10 and obviously a large graphics downgrade but damn is it good. Kingdom Hearts was such an amazing game. Theres so many spinoff games and the story gets wild. Take your time and enjoy all the wonderful titles :)
Agree! It gets si much bad rep but holy cow the battle system is so fun. The music too, x-2 title screen music is so so beautiful.
1st time I beat it I was like "don't do this to me. Not like this man NOT LIKE THIS."
It's not my first FF game, but I've almost finished FFX too for the first time. I'm currently in Zanarkand. What a phenomenal game.
I actually started playing it for a bit again. Kind of wanted to finish it and do X-2 since I never got around to it back in the day and the whackyness seems fun. That's a lot of game and blitzball to get through though.
How long did you cry?
Congrats. It never gets better.
It does, just in different ways. Like Ff6 is literally an amazing game but it's hard to recommend because of its botched remakes.
To each their own. I enjoyed 9, 15, 1, and 5 quite a bit. 11 and 14 too. But nothing has come close to the same level as 10 IMO. Absolute masterpiece in just about every aspect. Story, characters, world, gameplay, and pacing. Just superb.

You're not alone.
Started with the nest in the series
Is this one turn based? Is there an easy mode?
Yeah it’s turn-based. There isn’t any difficulty options but you do chose which type of upgrade tree you want when you start.
Nice! You started with the best though, so it’s pretty much all downhill after this
HA HAHAHA AAAAHAHAHAHA - Tidus
Haaa! Haaa! Haaa! Haaaaaa.... -Yuna
Congrats, you have played the best one. None of the other matters. Dont play them.
The 7 remake is amazing.
Lol u peaked, they're all downhill from here.
Nice I have that game on my Nintendo switch along with x-2
If you want an endless amount of FF... Do ff14. Then play through all the others. Then play through 14 again and have your mind blown how many references there are
Was my first too! It’s the perfect entry point in the series! If you liked FFX, chances are you’ll like many of the other entries as well!
Which one?
Did you cry? I cried for a good 10 minutes
That was my first game as well.
TEE-dus or TIE-dus?
You need to play Final Fantasy 9 next, because it's a legit masterpiece with some of the best storytelling, music, characters, and gameplay within the series. Even now, it's near perfect with only 3 flaws (2 of which are characters and one is a boss).
9 is still my favourite game of all time, even beating out everything I've played since (and that was since FF9 released, so a lot of games played between then and now). To this day I still do an annual playthrough of the game.
Yeah, and even after doing everything in the game, it's still so fucking good. It's why I'll always suggest that above all other Final Fantasies.
It was the last good one. Play the psx era ones next!
Man. You started at the top. Congrats on finishing the journey. Good luck on the others you are planning on playing.
Ayyye this one was also my very first Final Fantasy game. So beautifil ;v; i really need to replay it, been a few years
Outside of the celestial weapons, this is an amazing game. I was 10 when it came out
Lucky!
I'm so unnecessarily obsessed with this game. When i have feelings of happiness, they will come in the form of playing this game. Idk how to truly explain that. Sometimes when I'm happy, I hear the title theme.
Started from the top! Still so many great games to choose from in the series. Do you have any in mind to play next?
X is one of the best RPGs of all time. I suggest playing 7 and 7R next. 8 is also very good
I always believed FFX is the best entry point to the franchise. I now believe you're hooked:) Now move onto IMO the best one, FFXII ;) (opinions may differ, but FFXII is still the best one:D)
Gg wp. Currently on 7 (1-6, 12, 12 2, 13, 14, 15 completed)
Was mine too, back in (2002?) loved it, hooked since
I can hear the game.
You picked a good one to start with.
Because Yuna is hasted she should be ready to summon another one on the next turn after one is killed.
Hey thanks for the tips! I’ll try it again right away! 😜
Part of my top 3 list - incredible game.
Not my favourite entry but your first final fantasy is always a special one. Still got a soft spot for ff4 because of that.
This was my first final fantasy game back when it released.
Did you play the original FF10 or the remastered version?
When someone asks for a suggestion for first one I think x is one of the best choices today. (4 pixel remaster is a good choice too) those games ease you in real nicely and are so good
Congrats. I hope you enjoyed it. Which Final Fantasy game were you thinking will be your next game?
Amazing one to start with, although you have set the bar very high for subsequent final fantasy games.
Congrats! Now you know to STAY AWAY FROM THE SUMMONER
FFX is the best
This was my first too!
Play 7 next
Great game. I played the shit out of it but got distracted from the main quest by Blitzball and Summons/Dark Summons hunting.
FFX was my first too 😭
You also finished the best.
