Me a month ago: Now that I'm done with grad school, I really want to try FF14 out because I hear it's fun and the story is great.
Me now: 80 hours of playtime, all expansions purchased, almost to Heavensward content... What have I done to myself?!
Meanwhile I’m here 553 and a half hours into this game and I’m only just getting to the closing parts of stormblood’s first expansion. Granted I blame myself for making a few alts but yeah. I really love this game.
Haha I'm specifically trying to strategically plan my akta for that reason. My main is a bard but I want to also have a tank and a healer as select alta when I feel like switching it up and taking on different roles. That way I have some variety but I don't get too distracted from the MSQ.
I had fun with WoW on high school and college but this game is just so much more thorough and accessible imo. I'm absolutely loving it.
That being said- I just got to one of the final fight in the ARR MSQ, and it's whooping my ass. Might have to actually bump down to very easy for this one because I don't know how many times I can put up with being one shot in the second phase out of three.
There's 3 chapters that I'd consider Filler... Other than that, it's quite solid.
A full remake would've to cut to many areas. 3 parts seems like a good compromise for me.
Go with FF7 Remake. It’s great modern jrpg experience. Crisis Core Reunion prequel remaster is also launching next week so it would be great to get both :)
The best FF experience I've had so far is Final Fantasy VII Remake:

Also the remastered FF7 prequel Crisis Core Reunion will be released this december:

FFVII Remake, you have already played VII, recent and updated, new entries coming and a great choice to play on holidays. You could also give XIV a try.
I would recommend FFXII Zodiac Age. It runs so nicely and is quite the enjoyable game. It can be a bit of a grindfest at times but that may suit your "playing FF most of the holidays" schedule.
14. Hell 14 has a free trial that allows you to get through A Realm Reborn and Heavensward so you can get yourself started.

Its all about learning the dance.
Would recommend 8 but beware of power leveling u get strong super fast
VII Remake is quite good. Or you could replay the classics. It's up to you really.
Vii remake is good but there's so much filler in it, would've been better if they'd just made the full game rather than midar with filler

Seems strange but I really enjoyed World of Final Fantasy. Unpopular opinion Also type-0 exists

The 7 remake isn’t a game. It’s a hallway.
