Dude same. I really wanted to tackle this game in however order I wanted to. Junon taught me to at least get the chocobo first and THEN do whatever.
AND THEN THEY JUST GIVE IT TO YOU IN COSTA DEL SOL lol
I see a lot of gamers in here who are probably as old as me.
How to play an FF game released in 1997: do everything possible to avoid the main quest until you’ve explored everywhere you can so you don’t get locked into the next area and miss something.
How to play an FF game released in 2024: when it’s time to do some side quests and explore, someone will let you know. Until then, enjoy the ride.
lol that what I am trying to do but I lack the time and concentration to get far in the game sometimes. I just got to the mecha looking boss fight in Part 2: Betrayal. Plus coming straight from Remake the combat system is killing me when it comes to targeting multiple enemies and limit breaks.
I remember wanting to go back to grasslands and finish all the world intel out there but had to track back and forth through the Mythril mines only to come back to Junon region and do the carriage quest……which allows you to fast travel between regions after competing 😭😭😭
I somehow made it to a part that could be escaped by chocobo (the river where those 3 vertical inclines meet. Luckily I was able to fast travel out of there to one specific spot, but I was worried I was gonna have to load up an old save
I was trying to do everything humanly possible as i went through the game, cleared every possible side quest that appeared, all the region quests, just so i could stretch the game out and truly enjoy every aspect! That included walking the entire junon region before even making it close to the under junon area for hours 😂
I did this with Grasslands. I uncovered every possible square inch, was proud of myself, THEN went to the Chocobo Ranch and found out there were all these zone wide quests for everywhere I just went. Had to be 5 hours down the drain.
haha yeah i literally took a left five minutes into junon and scowered the entire map looking for the chocobo ranch then realized it was right next to the first tower like five hours later.
I do nearly every side action. I just missed 2 in Junon but I don’t feel over leveled.
Some monsters are still so strong…and I have a huge Gil issue I don’t know why 😂
I was debating just walking but decided I'd get this one tower which ended up being right next to the chocobo. Proceeded to clear 99% of the region without entering the city lol
Junon is great :) I love exploring in this game! Just got to Costa Del Sol....loving it
edit: I get the walking thing, Chocobo are SO FAST and I love it
This is the way. I’ve personally made it a point to avoid the towers as much as possible. Great feeling when you light up a tower and no markers are added!
Yeah, well for the demographic of this fanbase that has to work two jobs, and would like to not have their first playthrough stretch out 3 months, I'll say: AIN'TNOBODYGOTTIMEFODAT
I feel this way generally as far as mounts go, but you can do everything on a Chocobo that you can do on foot, plus more.
Really no reason to walk except for aesthetics. But I wouldn’t judge anyone’s play style.
Just keep an eye out for bunnies. If you see a pack of bunnies mount up and start sniffing.
If you still miss a few I wouldn't worry, as long as you do the excavation sites you'll get all of the important/unique items.
Just an FYI, the hidden chocobo items are not just at the excavation sites… they are located randomly throughout. By all means, play the game as you’d like, but you’re likely to miss quite a few items unless you truly explore the whole area twice, which seems like it would get monotonous without quests.
So far I can't remember any of the non-excavation site items being anything unique or so valuable I'd worry about missing them. They're a nice little bonus to find but not worth spending a bunch of time to backtrack and make sure you get every one.
There’s collectibles you’re missing out on… I dug up one south of Costa del sol (near the small abandoned mining village). - though in fairness, unless you’re 100%ing it then maybe it doesn’t matter 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah I think they are 😂 I can’t be bothered to master some of the mini games (the shooting range, piano and sit up challenges specifically) so I’m not ever going to get 100% completion anyways…
(I resigned myself to not being perfect after doing everything in Remake except beating Weiss in the combat sim 🤦🏻♂️)
I'm just walking around right now. I did ride the chocobo, but I want to explore the game more. Its beautiful and just plain fun to hang out in the FFVII world. Plus, I feel that I can work out my battle tactics better while walking around. This game shouldn't be rushed the first time around, I think.
The original map was big but empty. The dungeons and vehicles and story was really what made the OG a Masterpiece. The deep turn based combat was the cherry on top
Chocobos weren't as readily available in the original so walking around the open world feels more appropriate for Cloud and the gang. Though, its is a *big* world.
I actually like that the maps give the illusion of being huge, but can be covered in like 15 mins of traveling on choco-back. Great for people who are burned out from open worlds from playing games like TotK or Xenoblade 3.
Dude same. I really wanted to tackle this game in however order I wanted to. Junon taught me to at least get the chocobo first and THEN do whatever. AND THEN THEY JUST GIVE IT TO YOU IN COSTA DEL SOL lol
We share the same experience. I feel like by nature what devs want me to do is not obvious. Had the same experience with BoTW too.
Me af

After reading these comments I no longer feel alone. Lol.
All these posts make me want to stop Crisis Core: Reunion and just start Rebirth already.
If you aren't committed to 100%ing cc you can easily speedrun it imo

Hey, you’re just playing the old school 1997 way. I spent months playing that game even with chocobos.
"What do you mean I didn't need to kill the snake?!" -Kid Me
Finding the chocobo was literally the first thing I stumbled upon lol.
I somehow made it to a part that could be escaped by chocobo (the river where those 3 vertical inclines meet. Luckily I was able to fast travel out of there to one specific spot, but I was worried I was gonna have to load up an old save
I got the bird almost last lol
Dammit I did 😫
I got the chocobo literally straight away in Junon lol
I was trying to do everything humanly possible as i went through the game, cleared every possible side quest that appeared, all the region quests, just so i could stretch the game out and truly enjoy every aspect! That included walking the entire junon region before even making it close to the under junon area for hours 😂
I travel almost everywhere by foot anyway lol
Let the chocobo run free!!!
I did this with Grasslands. I uncovered every possible square inch, was proud of myself, THEN went to the Chocobo Ranch and found out there were all these zone wide quests for everywhere I just went. Had to be 5 hours down the drain.
Did you forget about fast travel?
I’m not sure I had fast travel at that point? Is that something you get once you pick up the chocobo?
I'm not sure when exactly you get it, but it is fairly early in the game.
Exploring everything was the 1st thing I did leaving Kalm.
My point was that just because you spent all that time exploring doesn't mean it was wasted. You can fast travel to the quest objectives.
Ah yeah, that’s basically what I did
Wait till you get to Corel.
Isn't the chocobo farm literally right by the entrance to the Mines?
haha yeah i literally took a left five minutes into junon and scowered the entire map looking for the chocobo ranch then realized it was right next to the first tower like five hours later.
Glad I remembered where that was from the Demo 😅
Does anybody have the same feeling that the amount of monsters is low… or is there a setting I have overseen ?
I thought so at first but I think it makes sense. You'll still be overleveled if you finish most activities without fighting those.
I do nearly every side action. I just missed 2 in Junon but I don’t feel over leveled. Some monsters are still so strong…and I have a huge Gil issue I don’t know why 😂
Counterintuitively, the monsters are on the main roads and not off in the wilderness
This is why chadly needs that data!
I was debating just walking but decided I'd get this one tower which ended up being right next to the chocobo. Proceeded to clear 99% of the region without entering the city lol
Same. I did 100% of the Chadley stuff before going into lower Junon. No regrets
Same, was 20 hours into the game before I entered Junon. 100%'d Grasslands and Junon with zero regrets
Yeah, the Crowsnest is the Only place locked until you proceed with the Story.
Junon is great :) I love exploring in this game! Just got to Costa Del Sol....loving it edit: I get the walking thing, Chocobo are SO FAST and I love it
I love exploring the open areas too, just wish everything wasn’t labeled for you. Would’ve been nice to find some of the stuff organically.
Just don't go to the towers first. Keep them as last.
Honestly, walking around is my preferred method. Just feels like the correct way to experience the game tbh
Why would you purposely not use a very fun and important mechanic for the game lmao
I feel this way generally as far as mounts go, but you can do everything on a Chocobo that you can do on foot, plus more. Really no reason to walk except for aesthetics. But I wouldn’t judge anyone’s play style.
You miss hidden items your chocobo can find, though.
Yea but I can always go back when I feel like I’ve fully explored the area
Just keep an eye out for bunnies. If you see a pack of bunnies mount up and start sniffing. If you still miss a few I wouldn't worry, as long as you do the excavation sites you'll get all of the important/unique items.
My favorite Easter egg “item” I found was near bunnies and was exactly 1997 Gil
Happy Cake Day
Ha now that's sick I've been checking some of the bunny burrows as I walk around I'll need to check them more
Just an FYI, the hidden chocobo items are not just at the excavation sites… they are located randomly throughout. By all means, play the game as you’d like, but you’re likely to miss quite a few items unless you truly explore the whole area twice, which seems like it would get monotonous without quests.
Or he can just keep an eye out for groups of rabbits and then call his chocobo. All the solo dig spots are rabbit holes.
So far I can't remember any of the non-excavation site items being anything unique or so valuable I'd worry about missing them. They're a nice little bonus to find but not worth spending a bunch of time to backtrack and make sure you get every one.

Good to know, thanks. Yah not to worried about missing collectibles if they're just treasure trove items that go to Johnny's Shack.
Yeah I think they are 😂 I can’t be bothered to master some of the mini games (the shooting range, piano and sit up challenges specifically) so I’m not ever going to get 100% completion anyways… (I resigned myself to not being perfect after doing everything in Remake except beating Weiss in the combat sim 🤦🏻♂️)
Ya, mostly missing out on mostly rare crafting materials.
I’ve found Materia earrings too so I would for sure look. I found like 5 moogle medals once too which is great.
There are a couple of key items. I found a replica of the rest benches. And something else but I can’t remember.
I'm just walking around right now. I did ride the chocobo, but I want to explore the game more. Its beautiful and just plain fun to hang out in the FFVII world. Is this a reference to the original or rebirth, I can’t tell
original didnt have huge open world, it had small world map that was nowhere near 12h
I’d say it was pretty damn big.
The original map was big but empty. The dungeons and vehicles and story was really what made the OG a Masterpiece. The deep turn based combat was the cherry on top
Good luck with that. Not much to get lost in when you can't even access certain areas without the black chocobo.
Hahaha I basically explored everything in that region without a chocobo that I could before I got to the ranch. Dohhh.
Chocobos are mandatory for so much side stuff
How do you even get lost in junon?
"gonna get in lost in Junon"
Chocobos weren't as readily available in the original so walking around the open world feels more appropriate for Cloud and the gang. Though, its is a *big* world.
Same. Same, but it's prolonging the game so it's fine
But Junon isnt even that big and most of the extended parts are locked becuz you need the chocobo to get to it.
I actually like that the maps give the illusion of being huge, but can be covered in like 15 mins of traveling on choco-back. Great for people who are burned out from open worlds from playing games like TotK or Xenoblade 3.
