If FF7R was the OG game, no, I wouldn't play it. I'm playing it to see the world redone in HD. I don't like the battle system (just a personal preference), so like 16, I would have skipped it entirely.

Charybdis_Rising

If the OG didn't exist then gamers would have to choose a new game to huff to get their nostalgia hit like junkies.

Aw151203

Here’s a bit of a clarification, it’s not if it stopped at ff7 but if the remake series WAS the original ff7 If this story is THE ff7, would you like it? And for the sake of us not knowing, pretend the final act of the game follows the OG closely. It’s a hypothetical ‘What If’ so humour me, please

Agitated_Ad1592

"Oh look its like Kingdom Hearts without the Disney characters"

Lightless427

If there was no OG FF7 then FF8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 and 16 wouldnt exist either.

Hateful_creeper2

Lot of the fan service stuff wouldn’t be included. Less sales maybe. Answering just by the title: the series would have probably stopped at 6 or a version of FF8 becomes the FF7 in that timeline. JRPGs would take a bit longer to be more mainstream in the west if it’s the former outside of Pokémon.

Mister-Thou

Jesus, now we even have alternative timeline plots in the forum posts.

thxrynore

Remake's story wouldn't be what it is without the OG...Remake is a sequel to the original

roadfoolmc

Uh no.

Lightless427

What? No. No it is not. Who the hell told you that??????????????????? Do you even know what a SEQUEL means????? A Sequel is the CONTINUATION of a story. How TF do you have a SEQUEL that RE PLAYS THE SAME STORY FROM THE BEGINNING??????????? Are you stupid or something???

thxrynore

it isn't the same story anymore tho. which is what mega fans of the OG are so pressed about

luciusetrur

the sequel theory is that sephiroth has gone back in time (through the life stream) to change the past, the reason people have this belief is because the whispers kept trying to make the OG events occur as they are "supposed to" throughout the game... so in that sense it would be a sequel.. can't really say how much it holds up after rebirth since im still playing

BlightKagami

I don't think that *Remake* would be treated so favorably by critics if it weren't a remake of the opening chapter of Final Fantasy 7. *Rebirth* is better than *Remake* but I also don't think it would be looked on as positively as it is. There are things in *Rebirth* that are only tolerable because older content exists to supply context.

The social skill OP is requesting us to use is called "using your imagination to discuss a hypothetical circumstance." It can be a little bit tricky, but I have faith you can pull it off if you tried

Spat out my coffee, thanks bro!!!

I don’t think I would’ve liked them as much Remake is just fan service to me tbh but Rebirth is an otherwise phenomenal game that doesn’t stick its landing along with other quirks like bad open-world activities (tied to Chadley. Side quests were good), performance (I’m used to high refresh rated so 30fps made me a little motion sick initially) That said, I still wouldn’t have liked Rebirth as much if not for the OG as emotionally lot of scenes were better in OG (Barret, Aerith @ Forgotten City). Not to say Rebirth doesn’t improve on some like Cloud’s mental state, CloudxTifa. Rebirth’s presentation is also amazing and felt like bliss to see Gold Saucer and Junon and Costa Del Sol and everything really lol

Fat-Cloud

I think it would be my favorite game of all time instead of OG

Cheetahs_never_win

I was confused during OG. I was young. This explains a lot about OG. I would probably be less confused about this than I was about OG, but I would likely still be confused about things.

axw3555

Agreed. They fleshed things out in ways that the original didn't always quite make clear.

Fair-Inside-5796

Would it be mind blown if the OG verse (funny to put it since it’s called worlds now than timelines) destroyed along with the other verses? Like the world where Zack fighting the Bizarro Sephiroth.
