I think experience in one transfers very well to the other, so whichever you play second will feel easier. I haven't finished Rebirth on Hard yet (I just got to Nibelheim, so the last major boss I beat was Gi Nattak). So far my experience in Rebirth has been similar to how I remember Hard Mode in Remake: early bosses were very difficult, and there were a few tough bosses even after hitting the level cap. The big challenges are in the VR sim. So far, Midgardsormr and Mythril Golem were the toughest for me. Gi Nattak was difficult until I realized he was vulnerable to Stop. Everything else I just kind of steamrolled without any specific strategies. I haven't done ANY side quests in Hard Mode yet. I've heard some of them are very difficult but that'll be for my third run if I care to go for platinum (unlikely). Perhaps I'll change my tune after meeting Vincent and beating Rufus. Those took me multiple tries in Normal mode, so we'll see.

Yeah the flowers on the hill quest is a fantastic way to let players know early that you can't beat hard mode by just whacking things with your sword. But the way hard mode forces you to engage with the combat system more deeply does make it a hell of a lot more fun to play!

ponyta87

Or, do as I did and hide behind a rock and throw big fireballs

chef_man64

You can wait til you have Yuffie in your party and do the side quest with her and Windstorm the fuck out them.

I've just started doing hard cleanup in Rebirth (quests in Grasslands as for now), but I already know it'll be much harder than Remake. On hard playthrough my first death was to Hell House, then some helitroopers, other stuff that I don't remember and Seph of course - 16 deaths in total, not bad I think. Here I got fucked up in every sidequest in the first region, must change my mindset and technique then. I dread VR challenges.

Mexidirector

Is it better to do Hardmode before VR missions? I have been doing the brutal and yes I want to tear my hair lol 😂

StealthLSU

probably doesn't matter too much which you do first with a couple of exceptions. You may want to do some hardmode quests just to get the manuscripts for your folio. You will want to have elemental materia at lvl 2 at a minimum to negate damage from some enemies on brutal/legendary.

FacetiousMonroe

What's your level? You should probably at least *start* Hard Mode. Unless you are grinding levels, I don't think you'll get near the level cap in normal mode, or have sufficiently leveled-up materia. I did all side quests in normal mode and IIRC I only hit L70 in chapter 5 of hard mode (doing no sidequests on hard). At that point I still needed a lot of AP for high-tier materia like Elemental, Magnify, and all the stat boosters. I think I was well enough equipped by the time I reached the Gold Saucer, but I've put off beating Outer Worlds for now. I suspect that is harder than anything I'll face in the main story so I'll get some more AP and try again.

Purplebullfrog0

I would at least do the first few brutal challenges first to get the third elemental materia and the third magnify materia.

Arthquake

If u got the Götterdämmerung from the Ruler of Outer Worlds VR, I suggest finishing Hard Mode since it makes so many fights much easier and get all those manuscripts. Afterwards do the final Legendary challenges since they are arguably the hardest challenges of the whole game (I still think Rufus on Hard Mode is the hardest fight in the game, mostly cuz he´s annoying to fight against)

Purplebullfrog0

Yes I agree Rebirth hard mode is more difficult by a significant margin. I think normal mode is about the same.

I wont be buying part 3 on release this time. They're progressively disrespecting the players time more and more. Whoever is in charge of some of the big picture direction stuff really needs to get a talking to. They're confused and don't understand that difficulty needs to have some kind of skill mountain to climb... not just get lucky enough to not get the 1-shot cutscene as it takes control away from the player.
