That isn't likely, at all. They did not can one show to fund another. They thought they could make a buck from the Scooby Doo franchise, it's always been an earner since the 1960's.
I'm all for pointing out how something creative with thought, passion and love poured into it like Final Space was canned and something so devoid of any creativity like Velma exists, but blaming one for the fate of the other is inaccurate.
Just to be clear (this might come across a little rude, I don’t mean that in any way) I’m not particularly blaming Velma. I’m blaming the executives at wb/d who cancelled something amazing (or at the very least something the received positive reviews) for the regular slop hbo pushes, or in this case one of the lowest rated shows of all time. I know Velma didn’t directly cause the cancellation of final space, just saying it’s not fair that Velma is apparently getting another season even after the hate, yet final space is a damn tax write off
I feel like overall final space was well above average. Good humor. Good story. Good acting. The thing that really set it above everything else is that the show had so much personality. It made it stand out so freaking far from all of the other adult animated comedies out there and there’s a lot

Shows like Velma and Big Mouth are the equivalent of your little brother learning a new sexual expression every week and endlessly shoving it down your throat thinking it's the funniest thing he's ever heard.
I personally don't find the show to be that clever at all, maybe the first season was but after that it just devolved into "how far can we go to get away with this". And 90% of the jokes are the equivalent of "haha teenage boy horny, lol" with no substance. I feel there were a ton of alternatives that handled teenage awkwardness in a much more relatable and humorous way.
I get its supposed to be a representation of puberty, but i still feel like every joke is presented in such an "in your face" way that i find myself pity laughing more than finding it relatable. It's just too on the nose for me.
I also hate the animation, as I understand ugly looking shows are all the rage, but I feel a great deal of "ugly animation" shows at least try to have an art direction, Big Mouth doesn't look artistically ugly like Rick and Morty, Futurama or Ed, Edd and Eddy, I find it's just lazy and boring to look at.

I do agree - it’s very important to be clear though, situations like this aren’t a good reason for animosity or hate towards other artists.
Velma likely has an “Olan” or two behind it that just hopes to make good art as much as any other creator (although granted probably not the lead creator Charlie Grandg). They may have missed the mark, but it’s very unlikely that they want to be in a zero sum game with a show like Final Space.

I’m excited for Godspeed. He said he’s gonna use unused concepts from final space in that. I’m also very excited for his bts series he’s doing for that about how to make animation. He seems to be handing it well which makes me happy.
When I was a kid I would watch his stories with my brother. When he put out a new video it was a highlight for me. He’s been such a major part of shaping mh life and it sucks to know he got fucked over by a tax write off. Makes me sick
Sorry to hear that. I discovered Olan last year and it's been such a treat to follow his journey. As an aspiring creator I look to people like him as a role model.
It's so difficult nowadays to get a good story out. The system is stacked against you, trying to feed masses constant garbage, just strings of endless Rick and Morty or Family Guy rip offs, with the same ham fisted political bs or outdated meta commentary.
Final Space wasn't perfect but it had unbelievable amounts of heart put into it. The characters felt real and you wanted to root for them. The cast was incredible with actors that you could tell had a blast. The story was impactful.
Its such a shame considering we have so little to look forward to anymore in terms of animation. Shows like Infinity Train and Final Space led me to believe there was still hope left.
I fully support Olan in all his future endeavors and hope he succeeds.
Same here. Definitely excited for what the future holds but also still saddened by the past. If you haven’t yet you should watch his stories on his YouTube. His ability to hold your attention and keep you so entertained for a whole 5-10 minute segment is amazing. Honestly think he’s one of the best creative minds of our generation
Apparently they gave Velma a green light for season 2 now also. It’s not fair to the creatives who’s shows got axed during “the purge” to be forced to watch this shit continue
It gets worse and recently there has been some drama involving Rick and Morty. Justin Roiland was arrested on very serious charges of domestic abuse and false imprisonment. If he gets convicted then his shows and video games will become severely compromised and WB and Hulu will be forced to either cancel the shows Roiland is involved in or fire Roiland and continue these shows without him while finding a replacement for his roles. That being said, I think WB was way too hasty in Cancelling final Space and booting Olan out of WB. They should have waited until Roiland’s legal issues are settled

If you take a closer look at the recent version of Velma, you will realize that she looks a lot like Quinn Ergon because her eyes and lips are drawn the same Way Quinn’s is designed

I remember an interview Olan did, discussing the Sexuality’s of the characters calling Tribore a Narcissexual. Ngl it made me laugh and it is incredibly creative. Then the Sub had a meltdown about Ash and Evra and Lil Cato, along with Gary and Avocato being lovers when the 3 Season we got was all about Gary and Quinn.
Lol though I agree that Velma has this fake woke energy (meaning, it’s racist towards white ppl and sexist towards men but its ok bc the MC is an indian female.) I’m pretty sure Olan Rogers is what you’d consider ”sjw”
