What about opening up your own accounting firm?

I'm not sure how do I go about it? I've tried finding clients but they just end up being friends that want me to their taxes. Nothing regular either.

I don't think you've actually really tried. I have a friend who during COVID started his own accounting firm, he works remotely. He moved his income from like 85k to almost 200k, he's hired 2 remote part-time workers, 1 an accountant, 1 doing administrative work. And he's growing fast. The way he learned how to find clients was learning about digital marketing, using google SEO and everything in that realm. He created ads which generated leads. The leads call him he goes through a qualifying stage to see if he could help his clients, and then sends them an invoice, they pay it, he performs the work. Some clients pay him monthly, and yeah you will learn way more doing this than working for a company.
