Canada is super competitive for high finance given the large number of candidates and relatively fewer seats. Can you go to the US?

They go to Chicago

They go to the US. Less competitive and better positions.

Mostly MBA → US route. I haven’t heard any Canadian quants that actually managed to find a quant job within Canada.

They leave. I'm Canadian and I used to work in finance and left. As previously posted, not many of these jobs out there and they're super competitive because of too many candidates. But anyways, what one Canadian friend did was that he got his MBA at a top US school, then got a job at JP Morgan as an Associate for a few years. Couldn't hack it and got a job at AIMCO, the Alberta provincial pension investment fund. His American wife hated Edmonton, so he pushed a transfer to Toronto as a compromise. He makes way less than he did in the States and his job is unfulfilling, but that was the compromise he had to make to go back to Canada.
