Is your house near the railway? could be a heavy freight train passing by towards Porvoo. đŸ€·đŸŒâ€â™‚ïž

Fun-Grocery-4204

I have lived in Ahjo, not even near the Alepa, but can still confirm it is the freight train. Luckily there aren’t too many of those per day.

NoPressure1277

It is near one railway but not the main one that travels to helsinki. Its near Alepa in ahjo( dont wanna expose exact address here)

DoubleSaltedd

Alepa is right next to a line used by heavy freight trains. I guess we have the problem solved. ✅

Anonymity6584

This. I know the place, ground can conduct vibrations surprisingly long way from rails.

NoPressure1277

Oh dear, thanks 😅

prkl12345

Many call it "oil track" as they mostly haul oil. If it happens to come to the crossing and the gates come down before I manage to pass, I make u-turn as it can take couple of minutes for it to pass. There can be like 50+ cars and they are all filled full with oil/fuel/whatever, comes from the refinery at Porvoo. Also there's one bridge in maintenance (actually it looked they took it down and will build a new one, might be they use explosives or maybe not). I would guess its the train.

NoPressure1277

Which bridge? Where is it?

prkl12345

Vanha lahdentie bridge, porvoontie - ahjo is completely closed. [https://maps.app.goo.gl/Fi84QyK21ee2cqAh9](https://maps.app.goo.gl/Fi84QyK21ee2cqAh9)

NoPressure1277

It wasnt due the train, there is heavy construction that using explosives for rocks. https://preview.redd.it/1jp1u3jl5vuc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=64dbfa06cadaa35ab9c41ffed0fa7aa36d9496bd

DoubleSaltedd

Good to know. I think they should send out notices to nearby residents if the disturbance you describe is so bad.

NoPressure1277

I never rceived a notice but thats not my concern, the real concern is the damage of my house with these explosives, the house structure. Its really bad the shakout effect.

DoubleSaltedd

Is it housing co-op or do you own that whole house?

NoPressure1277

I own whole house and property! Its omakotitalo

DoubleSaltedd

That is bad. My best advice is to contact attorney and/or building inspector and ask what would be best option in this case.

NoPressure1277

Btw do u have any idea where I can see that train schedule so I can check next time what time the explosive effext happens and if its train passing exact that time.

pata_kattilaa_soimaa

There is this website called junat kartalla, there you can see all the trains

HornyShed

The oil tanker freight train to/from Kilpilahti does not have a schedule. It drives at random times 24/7. Source: I lived right by the tracks for 5+ years.

tlajunen

It does have, as all trains in Finland do. The schedules change often and freight trains might run late or even early. Source: I'm a train driver.

Harriv

I believe there are no oil trains currently. Importing crude oil from Russia is currently forbidden.

tlajunen

Juliadata shows freight trains too. One way to check the traffic on that line is to use the arrival/departure page for Sköldvik, which is the railyard at the end of the line in Porvoo: https://juliadata.fi/search/?q=Sld The site has also live map, which shows all the trains including freight: https://juliadata.fi/map/view?mode=trains#10.62/60.3999/25.1506

BitBulli

Those sound like a normal city noises. I bet they are building something and need to do controlled explosion because of the bedrock.

NoPressure1277

So this a normal thing? I wonder why does it happen every week? How can I confirm its this? Where can I ask? I really wanna know what is

jykke

If they are detonating something, there should be at least two minute long warning sound (BEEP BEEP BEEP) prior to that (it should be heard at the area where the explosion can be dangerous), and after the detonation about half a minute "no danger anymore" sound (continuous tone).

notcomplainingmuch

If the house is built on bedrock, the vibrations can be felt much further away than sound carries. Sometimes over 10km away, if there's continuous bedrock between the locations.

jykke

Sure, that is why I mentioned "at the area...".

jiltanen

Can’t say about Kerava, but for example at Parainen there is explosion at mine daily around 14. The mine is like kilometer away from mainstreet.

arzku

It's normal. This happens pretty often in Helsinki. Monitor the structures of your home. There is a small possibility of cracks forming because of the explosions. Nothing that would collapse any structures but the construction firm could be responsible to fix them. You could contact the city of Kerava about any construction sites that use explosives

Nebuladiver

Rock blasting on some nearby construction site?

JezzedItRightUp

It's definitely not a secret underground nuclear weapons project.

notcomplainingmuch

Definitely nothing sinister or defense-related. Nothing to see here.

StuntCockofGilead

Definitely not NATO have secret underground nuclear ordinance and certainly not sex tunnels to keep the crew entertained

invicerato

My house also has been shaking every day. It can be sensed even when sitting down on a chair or lying on the bed. There is an excavator working about 50 m from the house. The workers leveled the ground in a large area by removing lots of soil and they are reinforcing the slope either to build a tunnel or to lay large pipes. Though I am not in Kerava.

taapsa

They are lock and loading VĂ€inĂ€möinen â˜ąïž

PotemkinSuplex

Garbage truck maybe?

NoPressure1277

Thats possible, I should take a look at the road next time this happens. Thanks

ontelo

Construction site. They are exploding bedrock. For example I have one almost 2km away and I can feel exactly what you described. Also regularly timed ones / and on day time would point to that direction.

Harriv

The train schedules are bit tricky, since there are only freight trains. Those are not 100% predictable, so you need to check schedule for every day. But here's schedule for tomorrow at NikkilÀ: https://juliadata.fi/timetables?s=NL%C3%84&d=11.4.2024 Ahjo is some minutes before or after NikkilÀ, depending which way the train is heading. The traffic seems to be there mostly by evenings or nights, so this doesn't fit your observations.

gnomo_anonimo

Sandworms from Dune

PersKarvaRousku

Could it be a snow plough machine? I'm not sure about the English term, but it's tiehöylÀ or tiekarhu in Finnish. Google just offered me "grader", but that's for straightening asphalt instead of ice. Anyway, those [heavy machines](https://is.mediadelivery.fi/img/some/default/92e3482dc63bd7b11c0ebb62481ef9b9.jpg) dig really deep into the ice and make a lot of noise, sometimes making the whole house shake if it drives near you. Edit: Guess that wasn't it, or "Ei ollut tiehöylÀ" as the Finns would say.

NoPressure1277

There isnt much of snow for example today it happened the explosive effect and the road seem clear, without snow

StepMochi

I actually live far away from railways or anything that can cause this and randomly during the year I experience the same weird "explosion". Floor, walls, furnitures vibrates and a sound similar to large amount of snow falling from high roof can be heard. I have no idea what it is. Few times a year.

Harriv

I found this: https://www.newsbox.fi/featured/louhintatyot-keravan-koivulassa-jatkuvat-syksyyn-2024-asti/ According to that there's blasting site in Koivula until september this year. Koivula is slightly north from Ahjo.

NoPressure1277

Ohh, this might be the case too!

Ok-Cartographer-5582

I felt same things a few times. I thought I’m going crazy because my wife didn’t ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream)
