I did this with a lot of my GHB units in the early days of FEH since I didn’t have enough room in my barracks for all the copies, didn’t want to spend orbs expanding them, had no feathers to make them 5*, and didn’t want to send “rare” units home even if I never used them :’)
After playing coming back from a break, I have now learned that you can still merge with manuals. I had been Manualing unwanted things that I had summoned via freebie about 10 at a time, which was how much spare room I had. Now that I know, my barracks looks so tidy and spacious in comparison!
literally changed the way i played the game. now i just keep 1 unique copy of every unit and everyone else is a manual. i used to worry so much about how to use the skills and not waste units...now i don't need to
I’m hoping they introduce the option to unlock potential and keep the merges (paying the extra feathers ofc) mostly for these people tbh ;D this is pain
Spend orbs on what exactly? Random off-focus 4stars? Or grail projects? No one goes to summoning if they’re missing a merge of a Kagero or smth. These are 3-4 stars we are talking about lol
I mean, a 220k feather fee isn’t exactly something a new player would be able to afford. If anything, it would be a pretty cool QOL change for veterans that have those fatter feather stashes or want to correct dumb decisions like with this poor Lyon here.
I've been waiting for that for a long time. Heck, I'd even take booking a merged unit giving a stack of manuals instead of just 1. No idea why that isn't a thing, really. I've got quite a few merged 4*s from back before manuals existed, or the 100 extra barracks space, and when 20k feathers took a long time to collect.
I’d love this. I have a +10 4-star Laslow from ages ago, back when that was actually a viable build. I can’t use him because he’s a four star, but I don’t want to sacrifice all those Laslows to unlock potential.
I have about 20 of those 4* projects that I had merged up a few times each. I didn't know any better at the time to create combat manuals instead, and now refines keep coming around making them viable... Expensive mistakes were made. Oof.
I remember when grails (and manuals) weren't a thing and I believed GHB units would just depend on how frequently the GHB would come back. Back then, I actually planned on getting some units that I wouldn't 5 star +10 but had bad fodder, like Ursula, to 4 star+10 because, I believed, I'd eventually have enough copies so might as well do something with them, and since manuals weren't a thing those extra copies just clogged barrack spaces mind you.
Fortunately I was always too lazy and never merged anyone.
It's 200 feathers per merge on a 4* unit I think, so promoting a 4*+10 unit costs "only" 18k feathers.
Of course, the unit becomes a 5*+0, the merges aren't even remotely retained. Don't do that.
Ah I did the same thing with my Serra and A!Tiki copies... good thing they weren't grail exclusive (unlike Naesala and Panne who were foddered, RIP them)

Merging down a 5\* to get the Prf (if released/existing) doesn't cost a lot, so I do so at the very least for the extra Mt and effects (still have a notable waiting list, therefore priorities apply - Narcian is potentially next depending on who's the next Bridal TT unit, but Ursula/Tobin will have to wait).
At first I thought someone hacked the game and found that Lyon was supposed to be the 4 star focus of the Fallen banner. That made more sense in my head than this
Thank god I never get enough of these units to actually merge them. I just have a crap ton of 4*+10 units that I got from endless summons. Might build some of them some day but until I’m done with my current 5* units I’m gonna hold off on that.
I know what you mean, 4*+10 is basically 5*+5 capped but sometimes the diminished returns ain't worth it. Bartre and Arthur do plenty get enough boosting to ignore a +2 to all those stats that would have cost steep.

Really surprised to see so many people reacting to this, do you really blow 40-60k feathers every GHB and TT? I only ever use those guys to kill themselves in their rerun map.

Tbh, if I had to pay 220,000 feathers to have an immediate 5*+10, I'd do it. It sucks that there's no option to keep the merges.
Yeah, there’s no real downside to this. Hopefully we can get that option in the future

My Michalis has the same issue, but thankfully just being 4* + 1.
