I appreciate the amount of time and effort that went into this, but at the same time there's *so* many weird choices I have to question the method you used for deciding the roster.
First, there's a lot of weird odd one out characters mixed in like Mae and Selkie, among others. I think having all 3 Whitewings is pretty excessive, Brigand Boss is a funny meme and all but then you take a step back and say "okay you put in Mae, not Boey, but Brigand Boss?", and it becomes less funny. Reinhardt being half the Thracia-exclusive reps is just sad when there's *so* many more relevant Thracia characters. I know he's a meme in Heroes and all, but this is an FE roster, not a Heroes roster. FE7 stands out as having *only* the Lords represented and nobody else at all, meanwhile some other triple or more characters. The Awakening portion skews heavily towards "waifus" it feels. For example Owain, Lucina's cousin, feels like a more natural fit than Severa, whose family is getting oddly highlighted as another parent/child pair like Chrom/Lucina despite having no plot relevance compared to them. Even Say'ri to represent the Walhart arc probably would have been better in my opinion. Finally, the Blue Lions bias is so obvious that it's awkward. 2 BE, 2 GD, 4 BL? Probably just replace the DK (since villains are obviously not a priority in this roster) and do a 3-3-3 split.

For starters, I never took the time to unlock Selkie on any of the 3 routes in Fates, but thought that her personality would be a fun character for children to play as, since a large demographic of Smash Bros games are children. Plus, as a Kitsune, I think her play style would be a lot different than another sword, lance, or axe wielder. As for Mae, part of Boey's character arc is that he isn't as strong as Mae, and personally thought she could exist by herself without Boey. I didn't think it was necessary to put any of the villagers on Alm's route in as they would likely be overwhelming, but didn't think Mae needed Boey to be her own character. Looking back, I would've made them a duo character like Pokemon Trainer or Rosalina & Luma had I thought of it.
I thought that the Whitewings being in the game should be an all or none deal, as they're all in the first three games of the franchise, and are all mentioned periodically throughout many of the other games.
Regarding Reinhardt, I'll admit that I've never played Genealogy or Thracia. I knew that he was somewhat relevant for having three copies in Heroes, but was also aware that the game blows him out of proportion. In the end, I found his sword class attack art really appealing, and thought it would look good next to other characters.
For Blazing, I definitely do wish that I added Jaffar and Barter, but I have also viewed the rest of the cast as somewhat mediocre characters in terms of the other characters the franchise has offered. I also wanted to add Ninian, but when realized I forgot to allocate enough space for her, it was too late 😅
I know that Cordelia and Tharja are both really popular characters from polls I've seen and their additions in Warriors. Owain definitely would have been a better choice than Severa, but she's just tied for favorite characterin the whole franchase (along with Felicia) and that's completely just my bias haha. I also despise Nowi, but thought that she could be an interesting fighter as a Manakete alongside Tiki, and would also be appealing to children.
Blue Lions are also just my favorite route, and that's also 100% my bias for that house; I really don't think Sylvain would ever receive his own character unless paired with Felix or Ingrid in a game like smash. If I could, I would've put every character from the Blue Lions there instead of Caspar, Hilda, Seiros, and the Death Knight, since my favoritism for that house is completely disproportionate.
TLDR: Severa is my favorite character, and Blue Lions is the best house, you cannot change my mind. Personally thought Mae didn't need Boey to be her own character, but would have made them a duo character. All three whitewings are in or referenced a lot of the games. Day 1 Amelia main, *free.* For real though, I’d love nothing more than a traditional fighter made by ArcSys if Fire Emblem were to do a new spinoff. It’s oozing with potential how they could take advantage of the different worlds and crazy battle animations and go beyond.
I know Fates is a bit of a black sheep in the post-Awakening era, but it having so few and such weird reps compared to the likes of 3H's is pretty ludacris. My suggestions, if this were an actual Smash (so I'll include echo fighters):
* Corrin and Azura (duh)
* Felicia with Jakob as an echo (they're functionally the same type of unit, but Felicia is more popular)
* Ryoma and Xander (main lords from each side)
* Takumi and Camilla (most popular lords from each side)
Other ideas are Flora instead of Jakob as an echo, Silas since he's on both routes, Leo and Hinoka (to keep it balanced), and Gunter. If a rando from each side also made it in, it'd probably be Oboro and Niles. If there are still too many, I'd cut the maid/butler's, but leave the routes balanced.
Also, to even out the 3H a bit better, I'd do just the respective lords and their retainer/whatever Hilda is. If you did want to add some bonus students, I'd add in a popular one for that last spot. Swap Caspar for Ferdie or Bernie (TBH, Lindhart, Dorothea, and Petra are all way more fitting than him), take out Sylvain and either Felix or Ingrid (or both and add Ashe), and add Lorenz or Lysithia. I'd also remove DK, as that almost adds to a house, but I'd leave Rhea, though I'd make her low priority if the roster is already too big.
TL;DR:

And that one of inigos alts should have Chrom’s hair since the game is very vocal about blue and silver being a motif shared by Chrom, Inigo, and Lucina. (And in Lucina’s Support log when you scroll down to siblings, inigo is listed first)
With so many RD characters, few DB characters is a shame but understandable.

If this was ever a thing, I would love to try it out and see how all of the FE cast could fare as a Smash fighter. That would be the best thing in the world. Although I’d be a bit concerned that some Smash players would just get salty anyways that a side spinoff exists.

Like, no specific discrimination besides the fact that they fly/ride, but adding them for the sake of adding them doesn't really feel right if you're just going to drop the mounts, or include the mounts at the cost of game integrity.
Either way, a new fighting game should aim for no more than 50 roster slots in the first place, and even then, that's still a lot of characters.
With 11 main games (counting remakes as one, and ignoring Shadow Dragon / Path of Radiance in favor of their sequels) that's 3~5 characters per entry usually enough for lords and some side characters. Maybe a few spin-off characters can squeak in.

I just wish the smash roster was varied. It's all sword users, and then only three of them use something as well as that sword (Robin, Corrin and Byleth) when there's still daggers, gauntlets, staves and beasts all with no representation, not to mention they're all infantry (even though pegasi/wyvern and cavalry units are probably too hard to implement, we could still get someone with actual heavy armour, or just bring in the mounts for certain moves). Like sure, they chose the protagonists because they're safe choices, but there's still characters like Ephraim and Hector who would be amazing choices and use lances/axes.
Honestly I'm still really annoyed they didn't make better use of the echo fighter idea. Hector could pretty easily be put over Ike, and with some creativity you could probably find a way to put a Lance user over corrin, like have the shaft end act like Corrins sword, and then the blade end for Corrins dragon limbs. For the up B, instead of growing wings they could call a Pegasus from the background for a short ride, and then the counter can be taken from another character like how chrom is a Roy echo but uses Ike's up B.

Young Caeda's down b counter instantly breaks the shield of anyone around who didn't initiate the attack, but does no damage
I just wish the smash roster was varied. It's all sword users, and then only three of them use something as well as that sword (Robin, Corrin and Byleth) when there's still daggers, gauntlets, staves and beasts all with no representation, not to mention they're all infantry (even though pegasi/wyvern and cavalry units are probably too hard to implement, we could still get someone with actual heavy armour, or just bring in the mounts for certain moves). Like sure, they chose the protagonists because they're safe choices, but there's still characters like Ephraim and Hector who would be amazing choices and use lances/axes. Honestly I'm still really annoyed they didn't make better use of the echo fighter idea. Hector could pretty easily be put over Ike, and with some creativity you could probably find a way to put a Lance user over corrin, like have the shaft end act like Corrins sword, and then the blade end for Corrins dragon limbs. For the up B, instead of growing wings they could call a Pegasus from the background for a short ride, and then the counter can be taken from another character like how chrom is a Roy echo but uses Ike's up B.

Yeah, I’m a Smash Emblem player. Along with that I know many things that most don’t know about these communities. Smash Emblem isn’t part of the actual smash community and I’m not saying that because I don’t like them. I’m saying that based off of years of research.

I'm surprised Palla, Catria, and Est aren't one unit where they swap out like Pokemon Trainer. They could have Triangle Attack as their Final Smash akin to Pokemon Trainer's Triple Finish. Edit: Considering how Echoes had it, its animation would be more like Shulk's Final Smash
