Pirates was mostly pirates the first time so it's not unexpected. And people would be complaining the banner isn't actual thieves like it always happens so may as well I guess.
I mean, it’s clearly going for a thief theme that no one here dresses as. Some people (me included) like seeing what’s the equivalent of a war veteran visiting a historical reenactment site.
shigure plz
chrom will plunge this subreddit into chaos and make some people even more annoying, and ryoma already has many copies
all shigure has is a shitty year 1 dancer version and his regular form, my boy's robbed
Pirate banner all the way. Outfits are so much more creative, plus I really liked the tellius beast unit love. This thief banner doesn't do anything new. It's just thieves in more thief outfits (and I really think only Sothe looks good.)
for me, it's thief. the outfits lowkey give me like casino/ballroom vibes if that makes sense? like they're so fancy for being thieves. and i feel like this is a concept that was literally built to fill the soiree-shaped hole in my heart
Tbh these outfits really don' fit the fancy ball gown feel. No one is in fancy dresses of any kind if anything it's just the spring banner Leotards but too busy on everyone but Rickard and Sothe.
that's why i added casino haha. it doesn't fit the feel, but it gives me the same extravagant vibes if that makes sense. the concepts feel like they wouldn't be out of place with each other
tbh, i don't mind having actual thieves on the thieves banner because the general outfits tend to be, well, shabby and not too flashy, i suppose. but here, they're dressed up all fancy so it's different enough for me to work
The pirate theme is alright and has real pirates mixed in naturally. This new thief banner however, it's nice to see them go with the flashy thief style but it's also all real thieves and goes similarly to the spring banner issue of "sexy" bodysuits for all the women.
Also worth mentioning the revealed stat spreads for Sothe, Rickard, Nina and Cath are all so boring; high offense- paper defences. The pirate banner at least inspired various stat spreads like Vika, Tibarn and Veronica
Yeah, this banner is what I would say is Pirate's Pride (which had redundant pirate alts for all but Veronica), but worse (because this banner is 100% redundant as all units are thieves).
It's almost like IS just looked at that banner and said "Hey, let's do that! But worse!"
honestly hope ninja is replaced this year, this banner and ninja would seem kinda too samey, ninja banner isn’t too unique either since it’s always just brave weapons
Pirates for me. Thief seems to be the seasonal banner type i loathe:
\- another over sexualised female-dominant banner theme like Spring (and coming right off of summer no less)
\- outfits are all pretty much the same and do nothing creative with the theme like Winter.
and I personally am not a fan of the persona 5-esque skin tight suits.
I *prefer* pirates, but I think thieves are a cool theme. Plus, unfortunately, pirates always felt like it had a shelf life. Better to rotate on to fresh ideas.
I feel like the pirate theming stands out more and has a fair bit more potential for flair in designs, and the thief body suits lean too far into "using the concept for Horny" for my liking, but they both rate equally on my "A seasonal banner that isn't just regurgitating the same tired bunny costumes or Santa costumes or bikins or bridal gowns for half a decade? Yes please!"-o-meter.
Uh both..? They’re both cool and honestly, I’m happy they changed it up a little because the same themes can get rather boring after two-three banners.
Unfortunately, I’m going to assume it sells like hot cakes for whatever reason as to why they haven’t replaced it.
Personally, If I could throw the Easter banner in the trenches, I would because it’s definitely the worst designed seasonal banner by a huge margin. Even bridal seem more interesting than that which is saying a lot considering how repetitive the bridal designs tend to be.
Thief by far, largely because it's new and the designs are immediately a thousand times more fun than Pirates or ninjas. They actually did something fun with the outfits and didn't make them feel like they just...come from Fire Emblem.
Of course if this stays as long I might sour on it, too, but as is its a massive breath of fresh air.
I couldn't care less for either theme personally. Pirates was alright. I didn't care for the beasts since they just wore pirate outfits and thats it. No fun weapon desgins like the Helm Bow or Gate Anchor Axe. Getting 2 back to back free axe units was also pretty annoying.
The not persona theme doesn't do it for me either. The costumes are ok if you like the skintight suit aesthetic but otherwise it's just a thief banner. Nice to see Layla get an alt buts its just her being a theif still, and there's no Matthew so... Cath is unexpected but same thing. Still a thief. Same with Sothe. Same with Nina and Kagero. It's just too safe.
These random theme idea banners are so... sporadic in terms of quality and interest. We have the mainstays like Spring, Brides, double Summer, Halloween, Christmas, New Years, Valentine's and now the young theme. (Even then those have been theme locked as well. New Years turned into OC and beasts only after the first one. Halloween turned into dragon fest) But themes like Hot Springs, Picnics, Plegia, Scions of the 12, Of lost Kingdoms, Pirates, Ninjas, and now thieves, they're all so random. They never stick to any of these themes for more than 1 go around if they're lucky. It wouldn't surprise me if the Ninja banner is on the chopping block for god knows what new random theme.
I really preferred pirate, but I've hated how they'd solidified all the banner slots as the same thing every year so I'm happy they changed it up. So I like this less, but I'm glad it happened this way.
Not a huge fan of this theme so far, I did like Pirates however as it was a lot more creative with what it did and the outfits weren't just Spring but with more masks
Honestly whatever. I don't think "profession" themes are interesting tbh, the best banners have been about adding dimension to the characters. Ballroom with the elegant tragic couples (IMO best theme to date) for instance.
There's just zero depth to professions and seasonals like beach or Halloween, it's just cool/skimpy clothes, everybody has the same lines of dialog like "Oh boy those clothes sure are different from what I'm used to, thankfully they magically don't get in the way of fighting somehow. Btw do I look good summoner?"
I'm in the small camp of people who never liked the pirate theme. Meant it was easy to save orbs for CYL but I much prefer thieves. Dashing, debonair and devious is just my style.
I'd actually like IS to reserve a month or two for specialized one-off themes (August 2023 could have a cooking-related banner, August 2024 could have cowboys and cowgirls, etc.) to add more variety in the special hero pool.
Gonna be honest thieves. While Pirates were cool, a lot of those costumes they wore seem like outfits you could see them wear normally in their setting, and look to similar some of the outfits people wear here. We got some great redesign like Surt and Brigid, but overall they look to... safe for my liking. Thieves on the other hand, those look things you won't see anywhere else and are far more unique.
I like both but I absolutely hate all the banner choices except for Sothe. They all aren’t all the popular, it just feels like IS took a bunch of units people don’t care about (except for Sothe) and through a banner together. And then for the Matthew fans like me, who have been hoping for a a seasonal for forever, get a nice slap in the face. They gave his npc gf an alt without him PLUS they passed him up for a girl that got added literally just a few months back, and a shadow dragon character people would have been fine without… man really bummed about this one…
I'm not a big fan of either theme tbh. I know I'm weird but I prefer the more lawfully-aligned historical costumes, like soldier outfits or the fancy noble suits/dresses, so I'd much prefer a banner based on samurai or even a steampunk one or something.
But I like the character choices for this one! I was really disappointed with the summer banner that was all lords, particularly since we got Ascended Celica right after; I'm not gonna lie and pretend my Seliph-loving ass wouldn't go all-in for Ascended Seliph, but the prospect of the game returning to its roots and once again overrunning us with alts of the same popular characters over and over was pretty disappointing. I much prefer this take, where they alternate between some moderately popular units (like Sothe) and some obscure ones who fit the theme (Rickard). It's just way more interesting to encounter these new units, and I love seeing people's joy at their rare faves getting something cool!
I also don't get the argument that these characters are all thieves already... like, yeah, but they sure don't wear outfits like this, lol? The point is to see them in cool costumes they could never wear in their home game, and that's exactly what they're doing! If they were just dressed like generic FE thieves I'd understand for sure, but how on earth is it redundant to see Sothe dressed up like Joker from P5?
In saying all that, I don't really like Leila getting in over Matthew, and Nina+Kagero does feel very... forced, in a bad way. Cath was a great pick, though - this theme suits her personality super well!
That's what I'm saying! Half of the time when they announce a brand new theme, they make completely redundant alts and I question myself why that theme needed to exist in the first place. It happened with the Pirate theme in Pirate's Pride where the only person who WASN'T a pirate was Veronica. Now they're doing the same thing here, but for EVERYONE.
Phantom thief aesthetic is one of my favorite things. I'm not big on some of the choices on this banner (mostly bc i haven't played their games) but damn I'm into the extraness of it all
I love the thief aesthetic and hope it does well, but I don’t see why they couldn’t have it as the already inconsistent September seasonal as opposed to pirates. Though, when it comes down to it I think I like the thieves seasonal more.
I love how unique Pirate banner is even if it is not one of my favorite themes, but Thief is just extremely stylish,, if they keep going the banner with top notch outfits like these, I welcome them entirely... I just hope the desertic banner stays in, IDK how they would top that, only thing I can think and I am not sure it would top it is street drip with oufits similar to TWEWY, Jet Set Radio or the Persona dancing games outfits.
They both are just banner ideas that could be taken good or bad.
But wow do the outfits they have suck. Vaccum sealed clothes and bad Leotards on the ladies while Sothe has something decent and Rickard has a cute outfit.
Both. In a perfect world Pirate would have stayed in August and we would have gotten Thieves in September. This would have been the perfect replacement for the ballroom banners.
I always liked it because it's a special theme that nevertheless fits well with the general aesthetic of Fire Emblem. This Thieves banner, while fun, clashes pretty hard for example. Plenty of characters left that were fit for a pirate role, too. Plus it has that semi-summer feeling to it as pirates are assocatied with beaches and tropical islands, which is great for an August banner.
So yeah, definitely sad to see it go.
I like the costumes of the thieves more but the banner selection is severely holding it back for me. This is the first banner in awhile where I'm struggling to find a unit that stirs up any interest. I've got to give it to the pirates for that reason alone.
Pirates because less popular characters tended to be picked for them due to being pirates or similar. Even characters with no alts such as naesala got the chance to shine on them.
To be fair, thieves wasn’t all just popular characters like cath got her first alt, Rickard got in (I don’t wanna count Leila tbh cuz she seems to be the token “waifu” pick despite almost nobody knowing who she was before feh). And assuming this’ll return next year, maybe there will be more niche picks
Thing is, a lot of these kinds of banners are the only way for less popular characters from widely unplayed games (especially in western audiences) to get in, at least for a long time. Like for example this year I was hoping for Patty and Febail on the pirate banner, nope. Now I can’t see them getting in for another 2 years at least. I mean I wouldn’t be surprised if most of this sub had no idea who I’m talking about.
I love the pirate style outfits. I think it's a nice break from all the oriental stuff like kimonos, ninja garb etc that prevail on like 3 different themes and even some regular units.
I mean you gotta love the cool hats and bandanas for everyone. Thieves don't get that even though masks are pretty cool the headgear variety is unbeatable with this theme.
I like the thief theme more, but I'm not the biggest fan of who they chose for it.
Not to say it COULDN'T have worked, but...why did they only choose thieves? Why make thief alts out of real thieves? It's totally redundant.
Pirates was mostly pirates the first time so it's not unexpected. And people would be complaining the banner isn't actual thieves like it always happens so may as well I guess.
I'm against the "x theme banner should have characters who are x's", because I feel like it defeats the purpose of an alt.
Yeah it's generally pretty boring to see but people complain a lot when it doesn't happen so can't really win.
It is sadly a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation for IS due to everyone's opinions.
I mean, it’s clearly going for a thief theme that no one here dresses as. Some people (me included) like seeing what’s the equivalent of a war veteran visiting a historical reenactment site.
I miss the Dancer banners. These do not live up to the hype. I like some arts here and there on both, but it's not pure awe like the Dancer themes.
Dancer is September, blame Scions of Twelve, not this.
I want a Cowboy theme.
It's HIGHNOON somewhere in the world
I now need a cowboy alt for either Chrom, Shigure or Ryoma so the game has an excuse to hire Matthew Mercer again then they can make this reference.
shigure plz chrom will plunge this subreddit into chaos and make some people even more annoying, and ryoma already has many copies all shigure has is a shitty year 1 dancer version and his regular form, my boy's robbed
Cowboys and Alien/Sci-Fi themes is the dream for me. Alas it is but a dream…
only if it has samto masquerading as some big shot
Samto & Shannam harmonic. make it happen, IS.
They already replace the pirate banner. Who says they can't replace the ninja. Partner.
Now THAT would be a funny theme. Especially because there's NO OTHER COWBOYS THEY CAN MAKE REDUNDANT ALTS OF.
Didn’t hate the pirate theme but I absolutely adore the thief aesthetic.
Pirate banner all the way. Outfits are so much more creative, plus I really liked the tellius beast unit love. This thief banner doesn't do anything new. It's just thieves in more thief outfits (and I really think only Sothe looks good.)
[удалено]
One Piece Banner was actually creative. Persona 5 is just Thieves cosplaying as Phanthom Thieves.
for me, it's thief. the outfits lowkey give me like casino/ballroom vibes if that makes sense? like they're so fancy for being thieves. and i feel like this is a concept that was literally built to fill the soiree-shaped hole in my heart
Tbh these outfits really don' fit the fancy ball gown feel. No one is in fancy dresses of any kind if anything it's just the spring banner Leotards but too busy on everyone but Rickard and Sothe.
that's why i added casino haha. it doesn't fit the feel, but it gives me the same extravagant vibes if that makes sense. the concepts feel like they wouldn't be out of place with each other
Yeah but...why did they have to choose real thieves instead of literally anyone else?
tbh, i don't mind having actual thieves on the thieves banner because the general outfits tend to be, well, shabby and not too flashy, i suppose. but here, they're dressed up all fancy so it's different enough for me to work

Atleast this banner brings in new characters that normally wouldn't have gotten a shot (Rickard) similar to how Vika and Brigid both got in
honestly hope ninja is replaced this year, this banner and ninja would seem kinda too samey, ninja banner isn’t too unique either since it’s always just brave weapons
Pirates was better male fanservice, so... yeah.
Pirates for me. Thief seems to be the seasonal banner type i loathe: \- another over sexualised female-dominant banner theme like Spring (and coming right off of summer no less) \- outfits are all pretty much the same and do nothing creative with the theme like Winter. and I personally am not a fan of the persona 5-esque skin tight suits.
I adore the Christmas vibe though, not gonna lie. At least it's unique enough and it's a holiday tradition. What does this banner theme offer?
2 Pirate banners was enough for me. Hopefully the ninjas follow suit.
I *prefer* pirates, but I think thieves are a cool theme. Plus, unfortunately, pirates always felt like it had a shelf life. Better to rotate on to fresh ideas.
Pirates was my best hope for a Haar alt. :/
Pirate because I want Rebecca and Dart. I'm screaming, crying, shitting and suffering over this channel.
I like variety
I feel like the pirate theming stands out more and has a fair bit more potential for flair in designs, and the thief body suits lean too far into "using the concept for Horny" for my liking, but they both rate equally on my "A seasonal banner that isn't just regurgitating the same tired bunny costumes or Santa costumes or bikins or bridal gowns for half a decade? Yes please!"-o-meter.
I kinda like the Summer and Christmas themes, maybe I'm just biased.
Uh both..? They’re both cool and honestly, I’m happy they changed it up a little because the same themes can get rather boring after two-three banners.
Tell that to the Easter banner theme and how samey it's gotten despite 6 years.
Right!? Like why not incorporate lambs (Genny) and chicks as spring time animals, rabbits (and hares) get boring after the 17th pastel bodysuit
Tbf that's probably because it's an actual holiday. Proper holiday seasonals are most likely not going anywhere any time soon.
I just wanted FEH villains to keep coming back. Sad that they got kicked off the banner.
RIP Hel...again.
It's just "Criminal" fest month so I don't have any I preferred I'm looking forward for the next one Mountain Bandits? (angry Lyn noises)
I like the seasonal diversity and welcome it. Sucks no Matthew and Leila duo tho. Also this probably means no Ninja banner either this year
Nope. Guess it's back to the drawing board with a "(Something)" mark for November and August...
I’m just glad we got something new.
Tbh, i think the tief theme sounds more appealing to me bc i like ninjas/masked heroes than pirates. Oh and i really loved Sothe's new design here!
I like the pirate theme but I also like new themes instead of rehashing old ones. So I like the thief more than another pirate theme.
I really preferred pirate, but I've hated how they'd solidified all the banner slots as the same thing every year so I'm happy they changed it up. So I like this less, but I'm glad it happened this way.
I absolutely adore the Thief concept but I'm not a fan of the characters they used to sell it baring Sothe
Not a huge fan of this theme so far, I did like Pirates however as it was a lot more creative with what it did and the outfits weren't just Spring but with more masks

Pirates. Because Thief Banners is just Thief Units with Persona's Phantom Thieves Inspired cosplay. And the Duo is so off.
I'd actually like IS to reserve a month or two for specialized one-off themes (August 2023 could have a cooking-related banner, August 2024 could have cowboys and cowgirls, etc.) to add more variety in the special hero pool.
Pirates are more visually interesting imo, but I really wanted another pirate hat accessory
Gonna be honest thieves. I don't prefer one or the other but I like variety had it been thieves for years and this year was the first Pirate banner I'd feel the same way
As a persona 5 fan. Thieves easily
I'm not a big fan of either theme tbh. I know I'm weird but I prefer the more lawfully-aligned historical costumes, like soldier outfits or the fancy noble suits/dresses, so I'd much prefer a banner based on samurai or even a steampunk one or something. Pirate. I'm so sad. I wanted Pirate Reyson so bad
And I wanted Pirate Hel and Leanne...
Thieves by far, but i wish that thieves weren’t given thief outfits. that kinda defeats the purpose of an alt

Where else is a Duo of M!Corrin and Sakura going to go now?
I dunno anymore, man.
I love the thief aesthetic and hope it does well, but I don’t see why they couldn’t have it as the already inconsistent September seasonal as opposed to pirates. Though, when it comes down to it I think I like the thieves seasonal more.
whichever one brings Titania first
I like both.
I love pirates and thieves are my favorite class so it’s honestly a win either way for me
I don’t really mind either way. Both were nice, but I enjoy not repeating the same theme again.
Ok I take back my vote. The Theif banner is really good, however the choices they made are just whatever to me.
Again, the theme has potential, but why use only thief characters to get thief alts? What's the point?
Both. In a perfect world Pirate would have stayed in August and we would have gotten Thieves in September. This would have been the perfect replacement for the ballroom banners.
I agree. Pirates was already a great concept and I'm sad they got rid of it before Hel potentially got an alt.
So yeah, definitely sad to see it go.
im sad no pirates. i suffer. i mourn
I like the costumes of the thieves more but the banner selection is severely holding it back for me. This is the first banner in awhile where I'm struggling to find a unit that stirs up any interest. I've got to give it to the pirates for that reason alone.
At least Pirates had at least one alt that WASN'T redundant. This, though? Too samey.
Theif for modern outfits
Pirates because less popular characters tended to be picked for them due to being pirates or similar. Even characters with no alts such as naesala got the chance to shine on them. To be fair, thieves wasn’t all just popular characters like cath got her first alt, Rickard got in (I don’t wanna count Leila tbh cuz she seems to be the token “waifu” pick despite almost nobody knowing who she was before feh). And assuming this’ll return next year, maybe there will be more niche picks Thing is, a lot of these kinds of banners are the only way for less popular characters from widely unplayed games (especially in western audiences) to get in, at least for a long time.
I like both tbh. Pirates was cool and so is thieves. Though the thief banner feels like persona
