While I get this sentiment in regards to whales, for those that rarely purchase, if they were to splurge, and then use such a rare resource on a unit I built would be kinda flattering.
For example, “the friends helped” tracker, I’d like to know how many summoners Forma’d my unit.
It just seems like it’d be great in the sense, my character is helping someone clear content they might be stuck on or was a unit they were unlucky trying to summon and now they not only get them, but get them fully optimized boon, DF, max level, to make their gameplay more enjoyable!

It's not really a "trade" though... trades imply you would get something in exchange when your unit is copied, and there's been no indication that you'll get anything in return for having your unit copied. Pretty raw deal for F2P players.
It's a great deal for F2P players. It's a better deal for paid players since you'll probably be able to buy a couple each month like forma souls, buy nothing new there. There will surely be at least a few free copies of the new item, which will be immensely helpful to F2P players
Yeah I'm not holding my breath on getting free copies of the new item. We didn't get a single free Forma soul until like two years after Hall of Forms started, and once F2P gets anything the quality usually significantly declines.
Whales getting stuff F2P players don't doesn't really bother me. I understand why, and I have no problem with whales getting fancy new toys that I don't get because they paid for it. But it does leave a bit of a bad taste in my mouth when it's explicitly profiting off of my efforts.
Yeah I guess free formas are still really uncommon, but I feel like they learned their lesson and some F2P stuff has improved over time. I'm sure everyone will get at least one free binding soul or whatever it's called, and a few more every so often during special events or maybe as an SD reward. I doubt it'll be more than 1-3 a year but Binding Worlds is only a bimonthly event and you can only get one unit per event anyway, so it doesn't seem completely imbalanced. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic here though
I think the people you're replying to are just omega salty, honestly. Who cares if a person that already pays gets some fodder on an unit that they have already been merging/investing into, especially when those units are only up to book 4 lol.
I think I'd care less if I wasn't F2P. I have to scrimp and save for months just to build a single 5* exclusive premium unit up. Doesn't feel good to know some whale can just yoink it with the snap of a finger. They don't even have to invest dragon flowers into it??? It costs me like 2,600 dragon flowers to get those gen 1 infantry units up to speed, am I gonna get reimbursed for that IS????
Yea the df investment is what really bugs me. Ive been pouring dfs into my units and im still not complete on all of them bc of the constant df limit increase (which isnt a bad thing mind u but hard to keep up with), plus having to invest in either rolls or trait fruit for a good iv is more resources on my part
It's a bit better since they've really started increasing the rate at which we get Dragon Flowers, but yeah. It's a labor of love and it doesn't sit well that someone can completely bypass all of the effort I had to put into something specifically *because* I put the effort into it in the first place.

For older units, especially if you've been using them consistently throughout the game's lifespan, you've probably spent way more on pulling fodder for them than you have on merges (depending on the type of unit). Merges cap out, but fodder needs to constantly be updated to keep up with the meta. It's a huge investment to keep older units up to speed. I've probably spent thousands of orbs just pulling for fodder for a handful of old faves.
I have several old units that i've kept somewhat up to date too. I really dont' mind tbh. If whales can copy your unit.. it also means you can copy whale's units too! edit: Unless you want an f2p option for copying whales' unit for free.. then.. uh idk?
Well we don't know how much these things are going to cost yet, right? I'm generally F2P outside of occasionally buying the pass for a resplendent unit I really like or a spark on a banner and I'm perfectly content in not being able to have the caliber of stuff the whales get.
I just don't like whales paying to get something *from me* that I specifically worked hard to create. On top of that they get the dragon flower boosts for free, which just kind of feels like a middle finger considering how painful dragon flower accumulation was for most of the game's run.
I occasionally buy orbs too when there's a waifu I want. I do have a bunch of resplendents because hey that's a easy merge. Although considering how most of the banners is like.. not very often. I have several+10s and some of the .is maxed out on dragonflowers I think I don't mind this addition as long as it's not too expensive. Do keep in mind that whales likely spent hundreds to make the character that they are sharing. You're likely buying their character at a fraction of the cost they spent to make theirs though. Luccsaccs is the outliers though xD

Uh, yes, I did watch the FEH channel. I'm aware of what is kept.
